    Great vid as always. Tours like the coffee tour you did are a great way to meet some locals and see some local life/locations. Even if it's not something you are that interested in, they are almost always a great experience.

      @DanegerAndStacey  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      TOTALLY agree! Sometimes it's not even really about the tour (though I clearly was geeking out about it haha) but it's the stories, the people and the experience

    Bula! 🌴 Loving the idea of exploring Fiji on a budget. I loved how the video was engaging and relaxing. Renting a car and staying on the Coral Coast is such a smart move! 🙌 It's great to see you guys thinking outside the box and proving that Fiji can be enjoyed without breaking the bank. That Beach House looks like a dream! 😍 And the coffee tour? Count me in! Thanks for sharing these budget-friendly tips and beautiful Fiji, Danger and Stacey. You're inspiring us to plan our own Fiji adventure.

    Fiji has a growing middle class and you'll be surprised by the standards and size of supermarkets in Suva (Extra Supermarket, IGA New World, Fresh Choice, Cost U Less to name a few.) The first supermarket you went to, True Mart, is still relatively new in Fiji and isn't at all targeting tourists. Their biggest outlet is in Navua about 20 minutes west of Suva. "Tourist prices" in supermarkets only exist on Denarau and other resorts.

    • @mierypesado6740
      @mierypesado6740 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Middle class driven by what industry?

    • @wy206
      @wy206 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mierypesado6740 Driven by higher education, SMEs, pay rises, policy change and good paying jobs. Only 1/10 Fijians work in the tourism industry. And the place least visited by tourists, the capital city Suva, is the most developed city in the Pacific (also has the tallest building in the Pacific as well - WG Friendship Plaza).

      @@wy206 It wasn't a gotcha question (I don't even know what the 'gotcha' would be in this case), I was genuinely curious about the Fijian economy given I've never been there and know next to nothing about it, and you seemed to be educated in the matter so I thought I'd ask.
      I won't make the mistake of engaging with you again, ciao

      Most of the pacific islands are like this, and they are all quite pricey but that's because they're all a small drop in the ocean so the cost to import things is high.

    • @DanegerAndStacey
      @DanegerAndStacey  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Pretty accurate actually! We were just comparing some prices for an upcoming all expenses kind of video, we spent less in Bali over a longer period!

      @DanegerAndStacey yes you are definitely right, I'm fijian and I have seen and known fiji to be very expensive than Thailand and bali where you could spend a little with a lot of things you can do. I would prefer going back to bali or Thailand and even phuket when wanting to save money and enjoying the holiday with a lot of things to do at cheaper costs😊

    I have grown arabica coffee on Auckland's North Shore. Got to 25 cherries, enough for a 50 bean cup, then a gusty storm blew my tree over. Frost sensitive so needs to be covered overnight in the winter below 4-5°C. Currently growing another tree which I will stake & protect so I can look forward to roasting my own green coffee beans in another five to ten years 🤞.

    • @DanegerAndStacey
      @DanegerAndStacey  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm impressed! Why so long though? Does all coffee take that long to grow or something with the conditions back here?

    • @lsd22252
      @lsd22252 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DanegerAndStacey I can only speak about Auckland but I am making a change to what I did last time. My coffee tree has been planted in a largish pot and it should grow quicker indoors for a few years until it reaches a decent size. They are beautiful indoor plants BTW. Lovely shiny leaves.
      Last time I planted straight into the garden so it took several years to flower & produce decent cherries. Keeping it indoors for a few years before planting it outside should produce significantly faster growth. I used to love eating the lovely sweet when ripe cherry fruit. There's a thin layer of flesh similar to a loquat but thinner & smaller. I do live in the sub-tropical strip of beaches on the North Shore so I grow pomegranates & I'm also looking at my first fruiting season with dragon fruit. There is a coffee plantation & a banana plantation up North operating on a commercial basis I believe & some microclimates around NZ are pushing the limits by growing tropical & subtropical fruits & veg. I've been growing my own ginger for a decade or so. I have my very own Bali on The Shore 😁.

    Thanks Guys - I have done many of the cheap outcomes in Fiji, and Mamanuca and Denerau etc.
    Frankly the bottom to even the top middle isn't much different in Fiji,
    But the very best then is not really FIji. I think you simply chose what you want for a holiday, but a cheap island like Plantation or going down near Sigatoka means you get a great holiday and the local markets too with the Coral Coast.
    Really enjoying this set of vlogs. Thanks

    • @DanegerAndStacey
      @DanegerAndStacey  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Interesting! How many times have you been? At the end of the day when you're inside a resort or Accom it really all feels the same, so we think it's about being close to/picking the things that matter most and just enjoy it for what it is

    • @alman6581
      @alman6581 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @DanegerAndStacey I had to count it up.
      Including as I child and with my own family....10 times. But like you travelled through many many countries and different types of stays in each.
      As you say..... behind the resort walls sometimes you don't know where you are, so going to different places is so important.... especially as a new travelling - if you don't know why you are going.
      Culture is a lot. And defines so much for a country choice and style of stay.
      Sun and sand is all over the world..... so can be much easier to choose.
      But it's what makes that country and province special means so much.
      I've stayed in the Coral Coast, Suva. Denarau, Mamanucas, Yasawas ..... and having been so many times know what I look for, what I want to see.
      It also means I can say I know that location, and can branch out to other locations so easily with my own family. And that's something new.
      This year going back to Fiji for the first time in a long time, because of going elsewhere, then remote tripping around Southern Italy, via some time in SE Asia.
      You couldn't get more different if you tried.

    coffee plants in Fiji are not "wild"pants. They were imported by the Carpenters Group in early days under British Colonial rule.

    • @DanegerAndStacey
      @DanegerAndStacey  หลายเดือนก่อน

      ... Then forgotten about and the locals had no value for them/didn't recognise they had any significance... so they kind of just became wild again. Right?
