I was watching “maybe the funniest golf video ever” and your driver swing has changed quite a bit in 7 years. I’d love to see a comparison video between how you used to swing and how you currently do. Looks to my untrained eye that you use your body much more now and get better results. Keep doing gods work Mr. Crossfield!
Thanks Mark...I have a long back swing looking a John Daly for years but I've been trying to shorten it but now that I'm getting old its been harder to restrict my back swing...thanks for the tip...I enjoy golf more when I just swing away vs trying to be too mechanical
Mark, always look forward to your educational videos. You have a gift of explaining golf in a way that makes sense and easier to understand. What has helped me over the years has been watching the ladies swing and play. They are nowhere near as long as the men, but they are more accurate and efficient. In fact, their swing speeds are much closer to ours than the pro men, yet they shoot in the 60’s. We all would do well to emulate the ladies swing than the men. Too many of us, and use to be in this category, are chasing swing speed when we should be chasing better strike. This will get you lower scores. I’m living proof; went from a 12 down to a 4 in 18 months. Now working on getting to scratch. Watching how the ladies and men handle course management.
Mark, I love the teachings and knowledge you bring in your videos. I have been watching you for probably 6 years now and I must say you are a cut above the rest!! Even in your “course vlogs”, the way you and coach talk through pre shot thoughts is amazing. I truly appreciate the way you make your audience feel that us learning is more important to you than making a dollar on TH-cam. I’m in the US but would love to play a round with you and the army!!! I watch a lot of TH-cam golf, but as I’ve said you are a cut above the rest. Keep it up brother!
Thank you 👍
"Fix my swing Mark" - I've always been able to get my driver working but can't seem to make significant gains. Once in a while everything seems to sync up and I gain 30 to 40yards, would love to find that consistency and I think these ideas and themes are what I need!
Love the content, keep it coming!
Great stuff Mark, I've been watching since the start thanks for the dedication to us amateurs. Always a pleasure
Thanks for the kind comment 👍
100% agree. Guilty for years of a swing that was narrow and with wrists that collapsed at the top. Maintaining wrist angle with more width has been a lightbulb moment. Instantly has added yardage through a much better strike and launch angle. Tough to trust initially due to years of swinging as above, but your 2 club tip along with the other pieces of advice is really useful, and something you can do without having to go the range. Thx Mark !!!
Thanks for your comment Ted
Brilliant advice Mark - I've tightened up my swing and moved towards a bigger turn using the bigger muscles rather than the wrist and lag ideas - much better striking, distance and consistency - dropped 3 shots off my handicap past 3 months and now single figures and looking to go,lower!
Mark, this was a tremendous help to my swing, and just as importantly, confidence that I am about to hit a solid contact shot. This swing path works for the rest of my clubs too. I finally feel like I have some face control and extra leverage. The driver feels like a tooth pick after swinging the 2 heavier irons. Keep up the great teaching. You are my favorite instructor to follow. Brian from Calgary
Morning mark tried the 2 club drill this morning wow. Strike improved flight everything even calmed down my overdraw/hook cheers bruh
Fix my swing, Mark! At 64 I was using wrist and elbow to try to get my club to parallel to ground overhead. Using your approach made me feel like I was making a shorter swing (actually it isn't) but brought me back to better strike and control of the face.
I don't take it all the way back, but I've realized that if I make a full turn and feel like I'm holding off for half a second at the top it really helps my timing. I just need to make sure I fire the hips and finish high to to keep synched up. I don't see the 85% backswing as an issue as I normally still hit it longer than most people I play with. I've done it for years and it's hard to change. Although since I've started playing more the past couple years it's definitely gotten better because I've increased my flexibility and mobility. Thanks for the video as always Mark!
Saved to my ever growing list of your videos, thanks Mark
Thanks Mark, i do think your golf coaching is so much better than the rest.
Very good! Off to the range now. Thanks for trying to Fix My Swing Mark
One of my favourite videos you’ve done Mark, so relatable to certain traits and bad habits I’m practicing. Hoping to put it to good use 👍
Thanks Tom.
Ive been watching you for many years and you have never described me and my issues more than you did during the 2nd half of this video. I am going to try and work on these ideas you gave. Any other ideas or drills you have on this I would be thrilled to hear about. Thanks Mark!
Yeah, the part about wrists, was particularly useful, going to implement it later today and see how I get on.
Such a perfect video, honestly thanks for the two clubs tip. Please make more content like this one. Flawless
Perfectly timed. Driver swing has been terrible this last week. Fresh thoughts for tomorrow now.
For a whole year I was struggling to fix my over the top move from the lack of a proper turn in the back swing. Tried every silly fix and drill on youtube but not one ever mentioned this. Wish you had talked about this earlier lol
FIX MY SWING MARK. Great video explained a lot and made loads of sense.
Brilliant.
"fix my swing Mark". Very helpful, i can get a bit wristy/ loose with driver during a round occasionally. I try to "slow" my takeaway so it feels far more deliberate, will try the 2 club drill. That hole you were on really suited my eye!! very nice.
Its the light. The fall light makes the colors so vivid. I could live there!!
Like this video , my wrists and grip at the top of backswing as my son said are a bit “wooly” or loose , I see after this I’m letting the grip loosen and over cocking, thanks 👍👍
Fix my swing mark... it's hips and shoulders for me. Your advice is helping me get out of the lumberjack mode and and getting more out of my swing. Cheers 🍻
'Fix my swing Mark' Needed this one, I have been getting very short on my back swing lately so this will help big time. 👍
Great video Mark. I watched a Good Good Golf video last night which they did with Bryson, he did a driving range session with them as a ball speed contest but he gave some fascinating tips to each of those guys on some of the misconceptions about where speed actually comes from and how speed affects strike. Some parallels with your thoughts on wrist hinges and "less effort in for more out" here. He came across very well and gave some very simple ideas that most amateur golfers could look at to try and gain more distance without actually sacrificing strike. Food for thought.
Love that 2 club tip for training a feeling most people don't explain the pros and cons of doing these tips in simpler terms......quality as usual
great video Mark, thanks for explaining the 2 club drill so well
Excellent lesson, Mark! The use of 2 irons for the wrist feel is MONEY!
I've made a lot of progress using single plane golf ideas. The simplicity of it makes it easier for me to get better repeatability.
Gonna need these tips tomorrow, hopefully the course will be open in the impending winter storm tomorrow.
Thanks Mark. I keep struggling with cupping my wrist - I'll use the 2-iron practice straightaway!
Great hope it helps.
I guess everyone is different and every teacher is different too.
The reason I say this is the instructor I am currently seeing has me adding a lot more wrist hinge and shortening my golf swing... totally opposite to what you suggest.
My biggest issue tends to be face control rather than swing path so hopefully this will translate to more consistent face control and timing in my swing.
Currently 8.4 HC, looking to get down as far as possible and play better golf.
Wrist hinge is exactly what I do. I’ve had lessons and been told I’m too steep but didn’t know how to fix it. Brilliantly explained, I’ll defo give this a try
Hope it helps Jim
Great tips, defo going to try the two clubs in the left hand. 👍 🏌♂️
I tend to be the short swing pull left goler, and I do wear out the glove on the heel. TY for correction tips. I will give it go!
The length of backswing is definitely working for me. Was struggling earlier in the year with weaker slices a little more connection at the start and making a full swing has absolutely changed that for me.
“Fix my swing Mark”. Recognising a number of my driver swing movements and thoughts that create problems. Hopefully the changed thoughts & drills will help.
Watching this video has helped me figure out where I’m going wrong in my back swing, I’m going to have a go at the using 2 irons as I’ve think I’m cupping my wrist to much, I’ll let you know how I get on
Loads of good advice - thanks. "Fix my swing Mark"
Thank you Mark, great lesson, gotta get consistent now👍🏻👍🏻
Defo would help if you work on that consistency
excellent tips Mark, esp the two iron training
Mark great video. Very informative and instruction
Yup. My most massive drives feel like I’m barely swinging. If I focus on speed and not tempo I hit it much shorter.
I struggle with keeping my backswing shallow. The tip my instructor gave me that helped with that, was getting the feeling like the club head was moving out and away as I begin the backswing. It doesn’t, (and it shouldn’t in theory) but getting the feeling that it does keeps the path back shallow and keeps me on plane.
Great points, work hard on my takeaway but need to work harder on my rotation.
Great video and good solid tips 👌⛳
I should have watched this before going to the range last night! I'll have to give it a go before my round tomorrow!
Excellent stuff Mark!
Another great video , you coaches have it figured out same every time good stuff here.
Great video. Very useful. I have definitely recently gone back to using more wrist rubbish. I’ll be taking this out. .
Cool let me know if it helps.
La Cala Golf! Beautiful , I have been there the same day you filmed there
La Cala. Americas course, 2nd tee. Love it there
Thank you. Another thought for my driver swing 😆😉. FIX MY SWING MARK 👍
Setting up a new indoor simulator so I can work on my swing over the winter. With my new GC3 and camera to start filming my swing, along with a virtual instructor, I hope to make some improvements during the off season here in Michigan. I am definitely guilty of not taking a full backswing. I blame my age (65) and flexibility, but that is really not the issue - I just want to stay in control as you suggest. As a result I am losing distance needlessly and to be honest, my accuracy has not improved all that much either. Some great tips and a video I will refer back too later for sure.
Great video, think I've got a decent driver swing but think my iron swing is a tad short been trying to lengthen it last couple times out,the few shots I hit seemed to go a bit further so hopefully will be better next year
Brilliant video Mark 👍
You mentioned that light bulb moment.
Well I couldn't agree more.
Can't wait for tomorrow so I can put these tips into my game.
Cheers mate 👍
Let me know if they help you. Thanks for the comments Matthew.
Just a heads up Mark.
Definitely working.
Not every time but working progress 👍👍
fix my swing mark. great video again!!! on the range i have kind of a “longer back swing”. but as soon i’m on the first tee i am losing courage and my swing gets short. the shots then are exactly as you said 😒
Absolute genius again Mark. Can I come and live in your house please? The wrist flex variation is me and the two club exercise is for keeps, cheers mate. Best driver lesson I’ve seen on the Tube 👍🏻
"Fix my swing Mark"
Agent Blocky Locky.. 😆 priceless
Where are you, it is beautiful? The take away is perfect. A lot of help, thanks.
Yes, yes, and yes… I find these to be great tips!!! They are logical and encourage some good biomechanics. Thanks Mark! That last one really clicked with me. FIX MY SWING MARK!!!
I ware out lots of gloves now I know why, thanks mate I will try your tip for a few weeks and see how it goes 👍.
That point about curtailing your backswing is so on point. My swing is fast, long and jerky but coordinated. When I think about reducing the takeaway all sorts of bad things happen!
FIX MY SWING MARK
I have that mark on myglove but can make it functional. I will work with your advice to change that!! Great!
Fix my swing Mark - lesson on Friday emphasised more turn and use of ‘bigger’ muscle groups - one practice session and one round later and I like the feel already, more solid contact overall (anecdotally)
Fair cop Mark. When you mentioned holes in the palm of my glove.......!!!!
Just looked at where my glove is wearing out and realised what I am doing! Thanks Mark, really appreciate your videos and the podcast. Out on the course tomorrow and will let you know how it goes… 👍🏼👌🏼
FIX MY SWING MARK
Fix my swing Mark! 👍 I find even swinging a driver with the cover on, or a few socks, adds enough weight to make a useful practice aid
Fix my swing Mark. More great tips to practice.
Starting my winter work with shorter clubs, but working up the bag to the driver. Foot spray and foam balls here: I need to figure out how to strike the useful parts of the driver face. Fix my swing, Mark.
How I hate my driver.. it fills me with dread.. mocking me from the comfort of its slot…. you just showed examples of ‘my swing’ , practice session tomo so saved the video to try and correct wrist angles (a pro has tried to correct me as well - your vid shows much better examples of faults) great stuff.
Hi Mark great vlog as always. I have been slicing the ball off to the right. It's now going straighter however, do I notice that when I bring the club face back to the ball it's usually open? Meaning will probably go off right how do I correct this.
And I just thought I had a inferior glove😆. I'm going to give some of this a go on the range.
FIX MY SWING MARK. This is the best driver lesson I’ve seen for a good while, I really like how you explain it! Make so much sense. Obviously when I try it down the range I’ll still be slicing it 100 yards right 😂
My issue is, and always has been rotation, so will give the two iron tip a good working on.
Fix my swing Mark...Help Seniors generate more distance with senior flex shafts....
Gee whizz Mark, that thumb tip is the bomb 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
I find straightening my trail leg in the long clubs helps me to deliver the club from the inside, as I tend to fire the trail hip forwards which makes me stand up and go over the top slightly.
I also get handsy with the wrists at times and find trying to get a feeling of having no wrist hinge helps...
“Fix my swing, Mark”! Great lesson once again! Will be using the two club drill to help flatten and take out some of the over hinging of my lead wrist.
found just getting my eyes parallel has helped the club get to p2 so much easier
Fix my swing mark !! I have quite a long backswing with my driver constantly being told I need to shorten it by fellow golfers
This is such a common belief and often does not help.
best teacher on the net
I found that letting my left heal come up improved my timing, path and strike. It was a search for more distance but the other benefits are much more significant.
Wil try this next time. Just had an inch cut of my driver (G425) and I'm amazed over the results. Absolutely more fairways found. If you think about it.. its weird that the driver length from the shelf is probably to long for 80% of the golfers. With your tips nothing can go wrong anymore... ;-)
Great video bruh but it makes me want to see more of the Spain 🇪🇸 vlogs please the laughs are great 👍 🇦🇺
The thing that has helped my game most recently is getting into the ‘waiter holding a tray’ position at the top and shifting weight blending.
i get the over active wrists and have struggled with what looks like a severe overswing because of it and inconsistency.
Hi Mark, are you still in Italy, what a beautiful course. I really enjoyed your Italian golf vids!!!
Great video. I am struggling with my driver as I 'stand up' as I go through impact meaning my driver lie angle lifts up, opening the club face. Trying to shift weight down and onto the lead foot seems really alien, and with such a short period of time to achieve this in the down swing means I find it hard to implement - any tips for this?
Mark, what is this voodoo you talk? Love the 2 club drill, I will be doing this 👍👍👍
The palm and thumb always wear on my glove. Any tips about the thumb?
What exactly do you do with wrists at impact? Do you hold wrist flat on left hand throughout impact?
Hi Mark, I always struggled with my lead arm bending or losing control on the top of my backswing. I look so weak on the top. Do you feel like you stop your backswing on the top with right hand biceps or left triceps? I have a feeling that I do everything with my lead arm. Is this wrong?
Fix my swing mark..........I find this....... the wrist cupping .......at the top of the backswing if my wrist is cupped the driver shaft points towards the right of the fairway and usually results in slice. A bowed wrist will see the shaft pointing towards the target and results in straighter drives with better connections at impact as the swing path is straight through the ball. Also, a slower and more measured takeaway and longer swing allows me to feel the head and time the transition better which I struggle with if I take the club back quickly. A slow backswing also encourages acceleration through the ball. It is hard to accelerate when you take he club back too fast!! A pause at the top doesn't hurt in this regard either and it helps with distance just ask Hideki Matsuyama !!
I am really struggling with driver and 3/4 wood off the tee at the moment, I’m having to use hybrids or 5 iron off the deck. Don’t think it’s takeaway issues but will definitely give this some thought and try it out next round. I am pretty sure it’s stance and ball position topping and toeing it, it’s frustrating but will address it properly when I get back to home range (range here isn’t very good for driver as it’s mats and no rubber tees at a suitable height.). “FIX MY SWING MARK”
Nice. High. Draw. Lovely.
Boom
Fix my swing Mark!!
"Fix my swing Mark" I think I tend to have a shorter rotation with more wrist hinge at the top. Our course is closed for the season and will reopen May1st so I have plenty of time to fix my swing.
Fix my swing mark 👍
