Here is my wish list if you would like to help me out with my channel www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/13BO7QKGAZZV2/ref=nav_wishlist_lists_2?_encoding=UTF8&type=wishlist
I've got a Honda gx31 4 stroke on my strimmer, similar to what Martin restored on his channel. Had it for over ten years now and never failed to start. I've always used 5w30 castol magnatec in my garden equipment and never had a problem, change the oil, serviced and run out of fuel at the end of every season! If you prepare equipment properly for winter storage, then it will usually fire up easily when the season starts again. Beltin video, hope you're better soon.
Great video Mick very informative hope you get it fixed ive got a Ryobi strimmer 2stroke multi tool one have had it for 15 years working solid every year cutting hedges and grass cutting and it has never let me down just wear and tear parts pull cord strimmer head ect and is still going strong look forward to the next video 👍
Great video Mick, thanks for sharing. New Ryobi 4-stroke machines are delivered with 20w-50 oil - used to be 10w-30 but they changed it couple of years ago - engine takes a full 65 ml. I got one just like yours 8 years old and runs for about 15 hours per year and I have found that it runs much better on alkylate petrol (Aspen4) and I change the oil every 5 hours to avoid damage to the camshaft. Hope we'll see yours run at a later date.
Had one of those years ago cam was whiped out like yours. The guy run it without oil he tried to use 2 stroke in the gas only. Destroyed the cyclinder as well just to far gone to bring back. Excitied to see how this one turns out.
Different carb on mine a spool in a bore on a helix with a hole that twists opening a bigger air passage as it twists.Mine in Canada.Noticed mine says S430 4 stroke on the cover.
I just found one of these in the trash with a hardly used rototiller attachment. Just needed a primer bulb and carb cleaning, runs great. Mine has a totally different carb with only 1 mixture needle, tamper resistant head of course.
Had one of those given to me owner used a 30 weight oil seized the cam blew the belt off. Freed up the cam looked up what oil to use reinstalled the belt not damaged and filled it with 5w50 synthetic. I have used this thing the last 2 years with the leaf blower the hedge trimmer and the grass trimmer straight shaft attachments. Only had one problem with it carb tuning. Would not idle properly found the hidden low speed screw hidden under a rubber plug in the end of the throttle plunger. And when using the hedge trimmer on a 35 celsius day for 20 min would die found the fuel boiling in the tank. The high speed too lean trying to get the speed of a 2 cycle the 5w50 oil saved it overheated bad. Richen up the high speed she runs like a champ now. Bought a rototiller attachment for the garden bed see how that works. If it dies I will replace it with a 2 stroke unless they come out with a 4 stroke that can match the speed and torque mixing gas a pain when all other machines 4 stroke. And this little bugger needs the oil changed every season.
Dang it. I have a Craftsman 4 cycle and so far it has been great. Heavy but a good cutter. I was hoping for a complete fix but will be looking forward to the cam replacement. Thanks for the great video.
Hey Mick. very informative video, I have a similar model with some different layout of the choke and priming bulb is on the back of the carburettor. The model is the Ryobi RBC430SE/SC. I've had problems with mine it starts ok but when I rev it, it dies out tried searching for spares only cant find anywhere that supplies them. any info where to get spares from ?
Hello, for that trimmer the oil it calls for is 20W50. As it will get thin very quickly it revs fast and gets hot 🔥 the oil tends to get sucked in the carb ask me how I know :)
@@themowerman yes I did lol 10W30 went through the rubber line that connects to the plastic on the carb and got sucked into the intake that's how I found 20W50 is your friend on this trimmer it won't do that
picked up a Florabest multi tool tonight for £20 ,.. aint being running for years comes with hedge trimmer& strimmer attachment done a basic service , new plug ,carb clean & tune up, new fuel lines now runs sweet as a nut absolute bargain on gumtree ,.. not keeping it have posted it up for £100 i only use stihl .
Someone’s obviously been in, they took a Dremel and cut slots in the screws.Valves are notorious for needing adjustment. Also check timing belt I’d be doing good selling one on for$40.00, trimmer head only, no accessories. Brand new , they’re $100.00 at Home Depot Good catch.
Hi Mick. Yes a definite lack of oil problem. I know you said it seems to have compression but if it's done that to the cam it could have positive scorred the piston and wall. These tiny little engines are fairly finicky about that kind of thing. Unfortunately I think it might just be a parts machine. BUT that's just my opinion for what its worth
I hate those bloody things! BUT I have the proper carb adjusting tools. Get them pretty cheap. I don’t even clean them out. Just order a brand new carb...should be less than $15. Turns an hour long video into 15mins and less pulls which means 45 mins of drinkin time. Pete is correct about the cam. When they are used heavy the cam gets warmed and melts!
Hi Mick, I've just acquired one of these and it was flooding badly and dumping fuel in the oil, rebuilt the carb and it ran great until the next day. Every time I tune it it's great until I leave it even for a couple of hours, it will work adjusted one way then not, and then work with the adjustment where it wouldn't before. Don't think it's cam or timing but I will check after stripping carb again. It was running better than yours when it does. Doesn't seem to rev high but I've been listening to them on youtube and they all sound the same, not high revving. Probably because it's 4 stroke and am used to 2 stroke. The carbs are different than 2 stroke, they don't have the hole on the inlet manifold side for the pulse pump, have you noticed? Or if they do they only go down a couple of mm.
@@themowerman Went through the carb again today and reset the needle valve arm, it looked too high. Got it running OK but not tried it since. I will check the cap I forgot about that, thanks. I pulled the rocker cover and got a nice surprise, it's got a metal camshaft. I'm going to find the tappet settings and check them.
I'm going to very strongly recommend that while you have the shroud off, check the wear on the camshaft bearing, pulley end. Gently pry the pulley up with a screwdriver. It does not need a full 1/8 inch of movement for the engine to go out of time while running. No, a new belt will not fix the problem. I've tried that. The cam bearing and timing belt are the weakness of this engine.
Great vid buddy finally got to the end of it lol might be worth checking the piston like you say even a small amount of damage to them can cause bad running as you will know
Hi. I have the same strimmer as this. Ive replaced the fuel lines which had perished and I got it working. However the throttle cable is slack and doesn't open up when I pull the handle. It moves the cable but it needs tightening or something. Do you know how to tighten the throttle cable or do I need to buy a new one because it has stretched or something? Thanks
Ryobi ( life was very poor with the one I purchased Mick, 8 years ago ) , I tried and tried had people look at it still couldn’t get it back up and running , so that was the end of me buying them 😂 , stihl every since 👌
I have a brand new Ryobi S430 that i finally decided to put together for use after approximately 9 months of purchase. After following all of the instructions, it just won't start.
Admire the effort put in by the man, however mine is newer than the one he has and mine simoly wont start or run efficiently without fuel stabilizer mixed in with the gas.
if the high point on the cam shaft was worn bad you wouldn't think it would idle well . I was thinking if the valve lash is not to bad maybe just a clean up the surface change the oil and look for exhaust blockage ! ...I know its your show ...lol
Great video as always mick i see that uses a toothed drive belt i wonder if that belt alters the timing of the engine in anyway as it drives the camshaft, if timing is off could it cause the symptoms your having?
12:50 i have an great joke on all that ajdusting tho it will take soo much typing so im gonna say you did great Mick and agree on you know that engine better than me ha ha 👍
I don't think it the cam..the cam lobe worn slightly, but the engine did run on high speed on your video..it keeps on stalling..the carb you installed is not for a s430 ry34440 . it's a 2 stroke carb. Maybe that the problem...
Since 2 stroke engines do not take oil, expect in the gas oil mix, my guess is someone did not realize that this 4 stroke needed oil in the crank case.
JUST BOUGHT THIS BUT NEW STYLE 4 STROKE ,30CC MOTOR FOR 199.99 !!! AT HOME DEPOT !!! WORKS AWESOME IT CALLS FOR .95 STRING BUT IM GOUNG GET THE 105 TO TRY !
