- Here is a video on TTC, the Toronto Transit Commission's, oldest bus 2153 as it goes from Lawrence Ave. East to Ellesmere Road on route 131E. 2153 is the oldest bus as it is from the year 1977. It is most likely that the bus will be retired when the new Orion VII Hybrid Electric Next Generation arrive at Malvern Bus Division. Bus is powered by a Detroit Diesel 6V71N and an Allison V730 transmission.
Edit 2153 has been retired from active service on April 27th 2007 after serving approximately 30 years of transit service in Toronto. The oldest bus is now #2017.
RIP #2153, the oldest and last leather-seated, no power-steering GM New Look. Retired April 2007...you will be missed.
Similiar to what I've said below, 2007 is still very incredible for those old buses!!
CORRECTION TO PREVIOUS COMMENT: Because an old Look was a different, older kind of bus. If I recall correctly the early new looks were manufactured during the Old Look's last years of manufacture.
TOO BAD LONDON ONT NEVER HAD THEM
Sadly the last fishbowls in Montreal were retired in 02. At least we got still a ton of Classics!
'02 was still pretty recent for a fishbowl!
Love that Detroit Diesel hum! Absolutely wonderful!

Just like the GMC RTS from 1977-1983!
@dyip90 - They are down to just a bit more than 100 Fishbowls now as I know you are aware.. Calgary Transit is second largest Fishbowl fleet now with 103 units still remaining.
I made a comment somewhere else that because of my childhood in the 1970s riding this style of bus (AC Transit), anytime I have dreams of riding buses, I am always in a "fishbowl" New Look bus, not any Flyer or NABI or Orion bus, and I've lived in many cities and ridden many buses. The New Look buses are etched in my memory.
THOSE AND GMC Old Looks too! You can "ride" them in "The Honeymooners" or the current movie "HIdden Figures", for instance.
Observe the frontal windsheild. The 6 peice glass make it seem just like a fishbowl.
None at all! Oh man, that is sad. I thought there were still a handful around someplace. I feel a part of me has died knowing this. Well, for me that isn't quite reason enough to move to Canada, but it IS reason enough to visit. Maybe see you there on board a New Look soon! :-)
The STO is the last Quebec Transit System to still operate fishbowls.
Wow, it's like going for a real bus ride. I can't wait for footage from 2017, it should be awesome.
That sound reminds me of the gmc rts buses that nyct had back in the 1980s
I grew up on Boston T New Looks. I'm visiting Boston again in April, for the first time in a long time. Anyone know if there are any New Looks in service in the Boston area at all?
@dyip90 Why didn't the NYCTA Blitz Buses have the 4spdrs.
Curious how many does the TTC have now? They are really great buses.
I would love to see the action of the front doors on these buses. One of the many little things I so adored on these GM Newlooks.
On the older fishbowl models, they had four piece folding doors, rather than the two piece. Washington DC was "THE" first city to get the very first delivery of the New Looks. This delivery was for O. Roy Chalk's DC Transit System, Inc. They were nicknamed and lettered as "A-R-C-T-I-C-O-O-L-E-R-S," as air conditioning was a new thing for buses in DC back then." They were some beautiful buses, ....equipped with chrome hub caps. I think DC was the only city I ever saw hub caps on new looks.
Some of them are being rebuilt. A few of the best routes to find them (rebuilt or not) are 95 York Mills, 90 Vaughan, 52 Lawrence West/58 Malton, 6 Bay, 78 St. Andrews, etc.
The oldest bus now is 7575 until jan
Very sad! Oh well. Good to know, I won't look for them then! Thanks so much for the info! (We should start a webpage somewhere that keeps track of where the New Looks are. Seems it would be a fairly small database at this point!)
STO still happens to have 7901 from '79.
Agreed, same with me, +Michael Sheldon Reed!
know if there are any in Montreal? That's much nearer to me (just a couple hours) than Toronto
The New Looks? The TTC still has about 204 in service.
how do you guys know all this stuff?
@luvdat8v71 - Actually the last Old Looks were produced in 1968 with model TDH-3502. The Baby New Looks began production in 1969 to replace the Old Looks.
Ahahaha Rode that bus many everyday through highschool! I love GM fishbowls.
@ttcsubwayfan
i hope I understood ur comment, but the Newlook came after the Oldlook of course but they still was producing the Oldlook up until 1966 which to me is weird!!!!
@dyip90 - 204 active Fishbowls in service 3 years ago when your comment was posted and now there are not even 20 of them. Calgary still has about 60 active Fishbowls at this time though.
and why is it called the fishbowl?
@FamilyGuyFan2007 There was 2843 (8585), and now 2755 (8616)
