- First Test (P. Saravanamuttu Stadium, Colombo - October 3-7, 2002):
Result: Australia won by 41 runs
Toss: Australia chose to bat
A gripping contest in Colombo saw Australia secure a hard-fought victory by 41 runs on the final day, despite a strong fightback from Pakistan.
Australia’s First Innings:
Australia posted a solid total of 467, anchored by a brilliant, chanceless 141 from Ricky Ponting. Shoaib Akhtar’s fiery reverse-swing spell (5/94) prevented an even bigger total, taking five wickets for 10 runs at the end.
Pakistan’s Reply:
Pakistan’s inexperienced openers failed, but Faisal Iqbal (83) and Rashid Latif (66) helped Pakistan avoid the follow-on, as they reached 279. Shane Warne was the key with 7/94, spinning Australia to a first-innings lead.
Australia’s Second Innings:
At 61 without loss, Australia seemed comfortable, but Shoaib Akhtar produced one of the greatest short spells in Test history, taking 5/21, including three wickets in four balls (Ponting and both Waugh brothers). Australia collapsed to 127, with Saqlain Mushtaq adding 4/46.
Pakistan’s Second Innings:
Chasing 316, Pakistan were 187/3, with Taufeeq Umar scoring a fluent 88. But the relentless pressure from Warne and McGrath broke Pakistan’s resistance. At 230/4, needing 86 more runs, Pakistan collapsed, losing 5 wickets for 26 runs. Warne's dismissal of Younis Khan (51) was crucial, as McGrath and Gillespie mopped up the tail, securing a narrow win.
Man of the Match: Shane Warne
Second Test (Sharjah - October 11-12, 2002):
Result: Australia won by an innings and 198 runs
Toss: Pakistan chose to bat
Pakistan followed their competitive performance in Colombo with an all-time low at Sharjah, succumbing to one of the shortest Test matches in history.
Pakistan’s First Innings:
Pakistan were bowled out for their lowest-ever score of 59, lasting fewer than 32 overs. Shane Warne starred again with 4/11, while the rest of the batting lineup crumbled.
Australia’s Reply:
In scorching temperatures, Matthew Hayden (119) battled through, putting together a seven-hour vigil. Australia declared at 310, with Saqlain Mushtaq taking 4/83, including both Waugh brothers with consecutive balls.
Pakistan’s Second Innings:
Their second innings was no better, as they collapsed to 53 in under 25 overs. Warne (4/13) was once again the destroyer, while the quicks cleaned up the rest.
Man of the Match: Matthew Hayden
Third Test (Sharjah - October 19-22, 2002):
Result: Australia won by an innings and 20 runs
Toss: Australia chose to bat
This match was a resounding triumph for Australia, both collectively and individually. Pakistan barely managed to drag the game into the fourth day, as Australia secured a clean sweep.
Australia’s First Innings:
Australia piled on 444, with Ricky Ponting (150) battling the heat, and Steve Waugh redeeming himself with a thrilling 102, smashing consecutive sixes to reach his century. Mark Waugh struggled, dismissed for 23 in what would be his final Test.
Pakistan’s First Innings:
Pakistan were bundled out for 221, with Warne (5/88) and McGrath (4/40) dominating again. McGrath’s 400th Test wicket was a major milestone, trapping Waqar Younis LBW.
Pakistan’s Second Innings:
Following on, Hasan Raza (54*) tried to resist, but Pakistan were bowled out for 203, as Warne continued his dominance with 3 more wickets.
Man of the Match: Shane Warne
Man of the Series: Shane Warne
Australia’s 3-0 whitewash highlighted their dominance, with Shane Warne taking center stage, claiming 27 wickets in the series. Pakistan, despite moments of resistance, were unable to withstand Australia’s pressure in Sharjah, and their batting collapses cost them dearly.

Please judge the team? Is it best world even in test ?
Sanga is your w/k right
From that year Ricky overtook Sachin as the best batsman of the world, his hammering of Shoaib and Waqar and Saqlain Mustaq is just sensational...
Since the day Sachin is playing he is the best....no one ever took anything from him.... delusional thougts😂😂
Delusional reactionary are those who are from this woke generation without any brain and thinks based on mere subjective feelings, Sachin never scored a 40 against this Australian side in the World Cup of 99, 03 Sir Don's team chased an unthinkable 400+ runs in the final 5th single day of the Ashes after WW2 without any helmet, any proper launch, treatment and when people were needed to see something like that to this day that is the greatest victory that has ever been archived in cricket field,
@@kingofkings4841he is right bro just check ponting's 2005 2006 season in test he was the best batsman for 2 years
Dhoni is the best batsman in tests
Whaatt? 😂 see this is a woke generations thought only gen Z can say such things thats not a thought of 90s born kids Dhoni may not even be a better wicketkeepeer than Kumar Sangakara let alone from Gilly, imagine someone say Gilchrist is the best batsman in test cricket!!
1998 me hui nidas trophy daalo
If ICC inquired, they would find match fixing.😂😂😂
Where was inzamam in this series?
Ye wale to abhi ki team se bhi bure hare the...
Fokat me abhi ki team gaali kha rahi hai...😂
So Pakistan is loosing at home since 1990s. They lost a series to Zimbabwe also then
I wonder why they loose at home , they should be unbeatable due to reverse swing but it’s more like due to second innings collapse
According to a common pakistani fan coz pakistan lost so it must be fixed
Match fixing at peak 😂
