    For a travel kit, many factors come into play like weight, volume, redundancy, and fit. At this time I've settled on a LENCENT International Travel Power Adapter that has USB A (can of course accept a male USB A to C adapter) and USB C ports. I generally don't use these ports unless I have the rare occasion of charging a lot of devices relatively quickly. Paired with this adapter (which is compact and only 2.7oz!), is my 45W Anker 313 (45W0. This is enough juice to power most laptops. I currently rock a Microsoft Surface Go (about time to upgrade). I thought a lighter, 30W adapter would be enough, but not with the lossy USB C dongle I pair with it. I use the 2oz dongle to give me more charging ports. Finally, I use a 10ft, 60W, USB C cable. I love having the flexibility to work wherever I want in a room and not be limited by power outlet placement. I can "slow charge" my phone off the dongle while working and also power my laptop/tablet and phone while in bed with this flexibility. If the 45W Anker 313 were to fail, the 20W port on the Lecent travel adapter will power my Surface Go if I power it directly w/out the dongle (lossy), and of course, I can still charge my phone and earbuds from this device. If the Lecent were to fail, I can run to a store to fine a basic plug converter to plug the Anker 313 into. Also, there are lower overall weight options out there, but they generally are a all-in-one solution that if it were to fail I would be SOL while on the road, and are weird form factors that are too tall or wide, taking up multiple power outlets on the wall which is generally not an option or frowned upon in your average hostel. Also, like your Satchi, they have proprietary adapters that if lost would render my charger useless. Anyway, this is how I'm getting it done on the road. Keep the reviews coming!

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for sharing! Yeah, that is not a bad setup. It does go to show how many options there are available now. How long did it take to get your setup figured out and working? OR, was it all first try and good?

      @@AllThingsOnePlace The only thing I had to do is upgrade from the 30 w to the 45 w adapter. I really enjoy Excel and I played around with a lot of different scenarios before purchasing. But I'm sure some new technology is right around the corner that will have me upgrading again. Haha.

    Just saw this since I was thinking about asking my friend in Canada to bring me this unit, since I want one for travel. Subbed for the in-depth and informative review. Are there any other GaN travel chargers, specifically with PPS, at 140W-165W? The main reason I like the Satechi unit is because of those interchangeable plugs, so if that's doable, that'll be great as well. Thanks in advance!

  • @tawsonlaw6217

    Well, this checked all my boxes until I saw your review. I'd be using this on a cruise ship to power 4 devices, including a laptop. 16" Acer Chromebook now, and probably LG Gram 16 later this year. But I'd be using this device all the time. I cannot find another 4 port USB-C power charger that plugs directly into the wall except for 1 "Rarvel" device on Amazon. All the others are either 3 port USB-C and 1 USB-A, or have a power cable that plugs into the wall. I even contacted Anker, and they said they don't have a 4 port USB-C that plugs directly into the wall, nor have anything on the horizon in the works. That is insane as USB-A is on the way out. Any thoughts on a good no cord 4 port USB-C charger that can power a laptop as well? Keep up the great work!!!

    So I made a mistake and bought this thinking it was the one you recommended in the other video, as the 165W one doesn’t seem available for sale anymore on my Amazon page.
    Was a terrible surprise when I found out it couldn’t super fast charge my Samsung, let alone SFC 2.0. I am going to try to return it, but I’m worried I can’t do it because I already threw the shipping box away (that’s how much trust I have in you lol).
    Now I really need a travel (or at least portable) charger to end all chargers. Preferably 4 USB C ports minimum, with over 100W for Samsung Tab S9, iPad Pro, iPhone and maybe a laptop or steam deck.

    Apple has sold a "World Travel Adapter Kit" for YEARS (I've had one since 2018, maybe 2017) that works with their Macbook Pro power blocks. They all have a plug that "pops out" like this one does. It seems like this is meant to be a direct competitor/replacement for that audience.
    So, if you frequently travel b/w multiple countries/continents and have a Macbook and multiple USB-C devices, this would be the adapter that lives in your suitcase/travel bag. I personally use an Anker 747 and a country-specific external plug adapter for that. But I've also lived outside my home country, so my "int'l power adapter game" is more advanced than average.
    I'm also willing to bet that someone thought, "This is a TRAVEL adapter, not an Everyday At Your Desk adapter. So, efficiency isn't as important, since you'll only use it for limited amounts of time." Not to say that's a GOOD thought process. But I can see someone saying that.

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, that apple plug can also ground the adapter if needed. I like those. True on the efficiency, that's a valid point for sure.

    My BIGGEST problem with multi port pd chargers is that they are very "MOODY". They'll charge fast sometimes, slow sometimes. I always have to unplug and replug everything for fast charging to turn on back again, but that too only works 80% of the time. I'd be happier with a single port ~65w pps pd charger for all of my needs at least.

Maybe this is a case cost-cutting measures which drop the efficiency a couple percent and hoping the consumer won't notice, which in the case of most consumers who lack this level of technical knowledge is probably true, sadly. Hello I’m a new subscriber here and I really enjoyed your videos!! Unbelievably well explained and accurate than any other channels in my opinion 😄😄
    I’m planning to buy a multi port charger to use it in my school. My school has a dormitory so I have to carry all my chargers around at all times. Also, I live in Korea so my choice are limited to chargers which have a 220v option.
    I’m currently considering this satechi charger and the anker 747 150w charger.

    • @AllThingsOnePlace

    By the way, I have question about PPS. How can I figure out what range of PPS do I need to watch to buy a charger which supports Samsung PPS? Example: Samsung 25W charge have two PPS ranges: 3.3-5.9V 3A | 3.3-11V 2.25A. An Ugreen 30W charger have one PPS range: 3.3-11V 2,7A. How do I know that the Ugreen meets the Samsung PPS in this case?

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Volts times Amps is Power, so 5.9*3 = 17.7W, so this wouldn't be able to supply enough power for 25W charging. The up to 11V mode would be able to supply enough power. The UGREEN only offering one PPS mode would get selected by the device.

I am still a fan of the Satechi 165W adapter, US market on that one (it has high AC leakage at higher voltages). I use it with laptops, watches, phones, and other random battery chargers and it's been great. If longevity is the concern I'd just stick with Apple's adapters.
