    To drain the oil and check the level the temperature must be 60°C (+8/-2), checked via Diagbox. That's the factory instruction from Cit. If the oil is colder you fill in too much.

    It most certainly is not sealed for life. Volkswagen used to say that and that the fluid was a lifetime fill. Now THEY specify 60,000 mile or sooner on some vehicles. There is no lifetime fluid and it does not surprise me that Volkswagen had to eat their words!! It is not just Volkswagen doing it, they all do now and tell you it is sealed. Some dealers will not change it unless there is a problem. Once there is a problem it is really almost too late anyhow.

    hello, I just bought a 2007 Volvo xc 90 fwd 3.2L with a 6 speed transmission. and I think it needs a transmission filter and transmission fluid change. However, I called a 2 local Volvo dealership's to see about getting the filter and gasket and the first dealership couldn't find the parts listed in their inventory. and the 2nd dealership, told me that it was a sealed unit and that it couldn't be replaced only flushed, and if it was flushed it could make the transmission shift worse. Moreover, the car as been sitting on a dealer lot for quiet sometime, so I figure it needs changing. is there a filter and gasket for this car and if so where can I find it. also is mobil 1 3309 the correct fluid for it. and I also would like your take on additives for the transmission.

    • @YepThatsIt
      @YepThatsIt  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      hi, filter in internal and needs to be dismantled to access and replace. you can add an inline filter in the cooling line if you like. transmission solenoids are accessible by the side cover and if you have troubles, id be looking at those first. always check basics, like fully charged and strong battery, good electrical connections, good earth strap connection and correct fluid level at required temp. cheers

    • @youtubehobbyists
      @youtubehobbyists 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@YepThatsIt Thinking the same thing fitting a inline filter...My AT6 on Peugeot 508 doesn't have the oil coming out, the heat exchanger is mounted on the transmission body with engine coolant flowing in and out.
      By the way, I'd be very careful with inline filter as if the filter is blocked because the fluid is too dirty and the bypass valve inside the filter doesn't open or open not enough, the trany will be cooked. I read a few reports online blaming the poorly designed filters.

      the parts to do this service properly are bloody impossible to get!
      Ive literally had to screenshot other TH-cam videos doing this service on Volvos and read the part numbers off to then punch that into google.
      you can reuse the old seals ofc but ehh I don't feel too good about that
      Very frustrating that going through the usual car parts distributors leads nowhere with this transmission.

    Dont use Multi ATF ! This gearbox is very sensitive and it doesnt like other than recommended 3309 (Euro4) or 3324 AW-1 (Euro5) oil. Dex III/VI is the base, but missing important additives! For example Mobil 3309 is original, what you get from citroen. Second thing, you need to reset autoadaptive values and oil counter via diagnostic tool. You should use it for oil temperature check too.

    • @YepThatsIt
      @YepThatsIt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi, we go by recommendstions by the 2 main reputable brands we use which are Tritech Lubricants and Pentrite here in Australia. usually you only need to readapt if electrical components have been replaced. we have compared fluid temp using digital thermometer at same time as using scan tool, with no real difference ( i will make vids when i get time ) besides it depends where in trans pan they place the temp sensor...if you ask trans design engineers, they will tell you it is not that critical ( often placed centre or forward part of valve body ). you alone own your decisions and the choice is always yours. cheers

    • @plenex
      @plenex 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@YepThatsIt Im working with (mostly) hydropneumatic citroen cars from 2004. I have tested several fluids for this gearbox, but original had best results (mobil). For example valvoline maxlife multi ATF declared 3309 norm, and it didnt worked. Now its not recommended to use it for this box (only in German datasheet). Autoadaptive values are recommended to reset by manufacturer. Its official procedure after oil change, not only components, because new fluid can cause friction differences and bad shifts. This way the gearbox is warned to re-learn values.

    Excellent trade tips of using a high strength bolt head for the large Allen key and filling up from the bottom! I am making up a threaded tube with a M7 brass tube (couldn't find the perfect size and softer materials) for the the oil filling. Can you tell me the thread is M8X1.25 or M8x1.0 otherwise I just make two and to see which one will fit. @@YepThatsIt Yep mate, it's M8x1.0 mm, I finally used a 8 mm outer diameter brass tube. The oil change fixed the clunk at first gear. The fix started showing in the 2nd flush. I have done total 3 flushes. I have also found you need to reve the transmission a little bit to get the bad oil out. My gearbox had black oil came out in the first flush. I originally took the car to a transmission place. The guy there wouldn't just do a oil change. His theory is the new oil is thinner so the clunk would be worse, got to be an overhaul. As I needed the car and couldn't leave the car there for 3-4 days. I was forced to DIY. The theory seems to be true now that the thinner oil frees up the stuck valves so everything back to normal. Thanks again for the great tips.

    Has the Pennrite fluid been working well in that car? I have a Volkswagen with a similar transmission. I know a couple places that sell Pennrite fluid but I often just get the Toyota fluid. That is much cheaper than VW's fluid which sells for nearly 25 USD for my car. What I do is look around on the internet to see who used what and what kind of luck they had with it in similar cars to mine. Volkswagen would be one of the best cars sold here in the USA if they didn't have valve body problems. Not all of them have that problem but the ones that do annoy their owners somewhat.

      Many thanks for quick response. There only seems to be the one plug on the top and I can’t see any dipstick just the two plugs on the bottom of the box. All three are Allen Key fittings. I’ve got the Haines manual for this car and although it shows both the 5 speed and 6 speed boxes, neither of them match with what I’ve actually got.

    Hello Dear friend; Good video. Please I have a Question. I have an ASTRA J 2.0 with AF40-6. Is it an issue if I overfill the transmission ? Currently it have about 3.5 L of ATF-VI Motul oil. the dealer say to me that it is normal but I saw that he didn't use the level plug to check the level. Thank you in advance.

    • @YepThatsIt

      overfill is worse... its easy - 50-60 celsius and open level plug to dripping oil...

    I am interested in one Peugeot 3008, 2.0 163hp (2010) with AWTf 80sc, is it a ,"real" AT gearbox (not semi automatic, robotised, etc), and therefore is it more reliable and better option overall, or maybe not?

      hi, all mechanical components need regular servicing. the cleaner and cooler you keep a trans, the longer it will last. add additional magnets to help keep naturally created debris away from solenoids and from clogging or passing through the filter. bypass the cooler/heat exchanger to help keep temp down and reduce rubber seals and o`rings from hardening, not to mention risk of coolant entering trans. cheers

      Unfortunatly, these oil finders reccomend multi specification ATF oil and in this example, even wrong one... Multi-spec ATF oil degrades very fast which shortens livespan of box and is very poor quality. These boxes use either JWS3309 which is same as Toyota T-IV spec on older versions or AW1 oil on newer. Multispec ATF oils meet either older or newer spec but both. If youre first hearing this from me, you shouldnt continue changing oil in peoples cars

      7 liters. If you want sort of a full flush you need to do 4 x 3l changes. Take the car for 5k drive each time and change gears aggressively.
      When it comes down to oil, the cheapest you can use as per manufacturing specs JWS 3309 is Chief Mohican Auto Transmission Fluid - Synthetic Multi-Vehicle, 4 Litre
      15$ per 4 litre

    I consider to buy Citroen C4 with this transmission (EAT6, TF80SC). Is it safe to change the oil in car that has around 150.000 km and transmission oil is never changed? There are a lot of controversy about that, even from AT mechanics, because in some cases oil change in that mileage can do more harm than good (new oil is thin and can cause slippage on friction materials because of wear).
    "Changing the transmission fluid on a high-mileage car is risky. Don't do it unless your transmission is running fine and the fluid is first-rate, because it can make transmission failure imminent...Some shops will not change the automatic transmission fluid on high-mileage cars due to the risk of problems arising after the service."

    • @YepThatsIt
      @YepThatsIt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      hi, if a fluid change and trans service do make trans issues after its done, that only means you have pending trans issues anyway. you would not be able to confidently rely on it. always do regular trans services, by-pass trans oil cooler is recommended to eliminate chance of coolant entering trans and helps rubber seals remain pliable, and add additional magnets to help collect metallic debris and keep swarf away from solenoids and sensors. do not be afraid of doing a regular service, it will either prolong trans life and reliability or show you have issues anyway. cheers

    • @alphazombieelite
      @alphazombieelite 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So, if the fluid is properly maintained and flushed at service intervals, then changing the fluid will not harm it, however if the trans fluid is left to get burnt/deteriorated? Don't touch it. Leaving it until rebuild is best.
