Tim Curry is one of those actors who makes everything he's in so much better. You can tell he's having a blast as Pennywise. As a kid, he's pretty scary. As an adult, he's hilarious. And that laugh is iconic.

I feel like the remake version of the clown is more clean cut, physically scary and horrifying and that adds to the clown fear while the original is very realistic and rough around the edges with a genuinely creepy , unsettling energy that reminds you why people are afraid of clowns in the first place 😭😭😭
I prefer this version of IT over the recent remake. The whole movie was filled with too much computer effects that seemed unnecessary in certain scenes.
The book actually weaves the events of '58 with the events of '85. Much like it's done here. In fact, the climax switches back and forth every few paragraphs. In the book, there is no Part 1 and Part 2. It's all a singular, interwoven narrative. And it works really well.
Yeah I was a huge fan of his back in the day so many of his movies were a huge part of my childhood. Not only this one but he was bastian in The neverending story part 2 and I believe he was in Free Willy I forget where there was one or two but he played the main kid in one of them
This version has a dear place in my heart. This movie traumatized a whole generation. And 1. Because of Tim Curry performance and 2. He looks like a real clown and it made it more scary because any clown could be evil. The kids made also a great performance.

The deadlights does to humans what carlights do to deer. Once caught it in, you can't look away. I watched this movie as a kid back in 1990/1991 in 3rd Grade. The shower scene scared the crap out of me the first time I saw it but it still became one of my favorite movies that I would rewatch once a year. The way it touches on childhood traumas, and the small town evil in a supernatural way but the kids coming together to overcome it really resonated with me. A theory I always had about the inhaler injuring Pennywise: it uses children's easy nature to believe anything to manifest its incorporeal form (Pennywise) and incite extreme fear in them. But at the same time, when they believe something so strongly, it becomes a double edged sword and also works against him.
Most of us saw this as kids on tv and that's why you hear about it scaring people. I was 9 when I first saw this movie and I definitely slept with the light on for a few nights.
And for most of us, it was before cable TV and VCRs were common enough for kids to have been exposed to uncut horror movies. We’d never seen anything like this before.

To give some perspective on why this affected us elder millennials and gen x so much. This came out when I was 9........on NETWORK tv. This wasn't on cable. This was flipping through the 10 channels on broadcast tv. Sure, the remake is more gory and scarier. But that was blockbuster Hollywood. This was network, lol. They pushed the envelope with how much they could possibly get away with and really went above and beyond. Now I've always been a gorehound and horror fan (hell, my birthday is Halloween, it's kinda expected) but my little 9 year old ass was NOT prepared for this, lol.
Similar story, though I don't have the cool Halloween birthday like Some People. haha. But yeah, I was a kid when introduced to this miniseries and I was nervous about a lot of stuff afterwards. I love this version of IT
A lot of it happened in the 2nd part because the screenwriter of the 1st half wouldn't come back so the director had to write it himself, so it had cheesy dialogue. They did a fine job when you consider they had to condense a 1,000+ page book into a 3 hour TV movie split in 2.
I prefer this version of the clown tbh, having it just be Tim Curry in a costume makes it feel way more sinister. Skarsgard's version isn't bad at all but it feels much more supernatural than this one and for some reason it makes it less creepy to me.

He was so kind to her and just so lovely which given some roles people wouldn’t expect, Tim Curry is absolutely phenomenal at what he does and deserved better then his stroke and heath that left him unable to continue acting. Some roles people would know him better in are Home alone two lost in New York as the nosey doorman at the hotel and prince from Garfield a tale of two kitties
I remember watching this and the silver bullet in the same night as a little kid when I was like eight and wasn't supposed to be watching scary movies at all when my parents were out of town and ended up with nightmares for weeks afterwards
I like each of the media types for what they are and when they were made. The mini series is a really strong interpretation for the time it was made. It also takes its time and blends the two timelines well. Also-Tim Curry!! The new movies have a real sense of horror and a level of dread that makes it so uncomfortable. The cinematography and scripts are super tight and the aged versions of the characters match better and seem more like the books. The book is good as it is gives such a strong backstory and history to Derry. The language and world building is awesome.
They did their best with the 1989 Tv budget special effects. Was aired as a 2 part mini series. This was closer to the book as far as the events, time it is set, and the flash back style of story telling. It annoyed me a bit in the new movie having part one as just when they were young, and then having part 2 as the flashback style. It is a shame that both versions cut out most of Mikes part of the story, but the new version is worse cutting nearly everything..
It's not as clear in the movies as it is in the books but Pennywise takes on the weaknesses of the form he inhabits and it's tied to the kids beliefs and imagination. When Eddie says his asthma spray is acid it hurts IT like acid & when they believe silver can hurt IT that works, in the older movie Bill believes his bike is magic and can break the spell on his wife so it does and in the newer movie Ben believes that true loves kiss can break the spell on Beverly so it does, etc.
This is so nostalgic for me. I watched this when i was way too young and have been watching it regularly since. I also loved the remake! Because this was on TV, they couldn't make certain scenes and brutal like the remake(George's death scene specifically). I think both versions of Pennywise are great because they are so different! I love Tim Curry's version because hes a murderer but also funny lol!
I have to say i enjoy the 90s mini series over the film remakes. As for my favorite king novel it easily goes to Salems Lot. Definitly watch the 1979 mini series if you have a moment. 😊
I love Salem's Lot, it's directed by Tobe Hooper, who made the Original Texas Chainsaw Massacre (which Mellow has a reaction to) & Poltergeist (which Mellverse should have a reaction to).
My older brother and sister have a huge fear of clowns, so this movie traumatized them. When I was around elementary school age and my brother was middle school age, we were doing back-to-school shopping and when I told my brother he was about to step in front of a sewer drain, he freaked out and ran around…as the youngest, it was one of the very few times I’ve won as a sibling.

I felt so bad for the kids. Not only were they being bullied by those psychos at school but they were also being tormented by Pennywise. Talk about rough. 😩
I've honestly thought for about a decade that THIS MOVIE (series) is the reason why people are afraid of clowns. 😅 Yeah, I actually got it reversed! I was never afraid of clowns. I just found out much later that many people have an unreasonable fear of clowns and THEREFORE the design for "It" is a clown.
Also the mini series was a 2 parter on ABC Television back in the day. I remember it showed the first half, and we had to wait a week before seeing the second half. The anticipation was killing me to know what happened. I remember seeing it on when I Debut. Love this movie and I always say watch this first and then watch the Remake. Love the OG, but the Remake was *chef's kiss. also, the between the year OG came out and the Remake came out was 27 years apart. Fun detail from the film makers. :D
Mandatory showering was standard when I was a kid. I'm probably older than you though. Everyone had to shower after physical education, or any sporting stuff (I played quite a few sports). It was just the standard, so Eddie as a child would naturally likely need to shower too. We did have special exceptions, religious ones, but they still had to, just alone.

Interesting you mention that… because there’s a rumor/ conspiracy that a group in Hollywood is doing that same thing… but, they’re drinking the children’s blood(not sure if it’s true)
I really did not expect Mell to watch the old IT!
Man I love this movie, 90s gold, gonna watch it later 😃
A classic horror film.
This has been my favorite horror movie since childhood. Always thought Tim Curry was amazing. 🎈
@12:03 YAAAAAAAAAAS MELLOW PLEASE DO A MOVIE MARATHON HALLOWEEN SPECIAL WHERE YOU WATCH ALL OF THE CLASSICS.!
The original is still my favorite. I respect the remake because they were very well done.
Bill is Richard Thomas ,John Boy from the show the Walton's. Younger Bill is Jonathan Brandi's, who was on the show seaQuest and the movies Sidekicks, Neverending Story 2 RIP. Annette O' Toole, adult Beverly played Lana Lang in Superman 3 and Clark's mom on Smallville.
About time someone does. Glad it's you!
7:05 in 2018 I believe or 2017 my sister met this Pennywise at fan expo and got to have a five minute meeting with him and a photo he is the sweetest person she’s ever met.
The movie is really good
1:09 not you said that’s so raven 😭😭😭
Rip Jonathan Brandi’s i also had an overprotective parent
You float too lol awesome video
Yesss I’ve always like this version better not to say the remake was bad but I just like the vibe 😊
I remember watching this and the silver bullet in the same night as a little kid when I was like eight and wasn't supposed to be watching scary movies at all when my parents were out of town and ended up with nightmares for weeks afterwards
😂 LOL 26:32 has always been my fave part in the movie. WA-HA! WA-HA! WA-HA!
Tim. Curry. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉. It came out in two parts, and even in the Caribbean, it was a big deal.
Me and my sister had to go to the bathroom together for a month after watching this 😂
YAY!!! Thank you Mel!
My 2 favorite novels by Stephen King are “Desperation” which they made a movie based off of and The Stand (also an excellent movie series).
I prefer this version. I was a kid when I watched this. Tim Curry was amazing in this!
I remember when this miniseries came out. I didn't sleep well for over a week.
My adolescent fear of clowns came from this movie. I also think its way better than the remake. The remake is just too Hollywood and CGI for me.
That's what nostalgia does to you😂
This is so nostalgic for me.
@@TheMarvelousM oh I've seen those reaction videos. ^_^
25:08 Pennywise is so petty he buried Stan (a Jew) with a cross.
🤭🤭🤭
Mel knows damn well he's scared of pennywise. I've literally seen him jump from a scene change or a well placed dog bark on this channel lol 😂
Felt like this was one of my most chill Commentary videos because I wasn't scared lmao
This is the best IT. The other 2 were okay but this original is some much better.
My older sister introduced me to this movie as a kid. I. Was. Terrified😂 so i definitely have a preference for this one.
This movie was pure nightmare fuel for me as a child. I couldn't even tell you how many nightmares I've had from this movie alone.
mell is one of my fav youtubers dawggg
Heyyyy Mel!!! Like the thumbnail lol😅😅
Was literally watching Stephen King's IT Full Miniseries Score Soundtrack that's live right know on the Warner Bros. Entertainment... And then this reaction popped up in my recommendations and know I'm here 🤡🎈

🚗🅿️
11:28
When i was younger, this is the one i watched. It was so scary i had to turn on every light going to bed 😂. But i think the remake is cool too. Psychological trauma got a really good remake😂
Hello Mellverse
this version is far closer to the novel than the new one.
I’m lovinggg the back to back videos!!
19:50
It’s likely that inhaler scene was a sort of tame version of the blood oath they took in the book. There’s… a LOT of things toned down from the book. Just trust me…
I usually prefer the original to remakes and this movie had me terrified since I was a kid but I wasn’t impressed with the remake because of how great the original one was
I prefer this version.
In the book Beverly actually explains why she married, essentially, her father.
Why did she
You definitely need to watch the new versions of IT as well. I’ve read the book and seen all the movies, I’m a fan of it all .
You like The Dark Tower?
@razycrandomgirl absolutely, it’s my favorite series I’ve read . And I didn’t just read the tower books. I took the proper path along the beam and read the Jaime En Fuego 19 book recommendation order .
This version is closest to book. Remakes are good for 2 scenes but overall this is superior
I felt so bad for the kids. Not only were they being bullied by those psychos at school but they were also being tormented by Pennywise. Talk about rough. 😩
I've honestly thought for about a decade that THIS MOVIE (series) is the reason why people are afraid of clowns. 😅
Yeah, I actually got it reversed!
I was never afraid of clowns. I just found out much later that many people have an unreasonable fear of clowns and THEREFORE the design for "It" is a clown.
I remember how I got the phobia after accidently watching this on my parents' dvd when i was 8
Muppet Treasure Island is the scariest Tim Curry movie I’ve ever seen 😂
23:56 that’s already out lol. For some reason not many people talked about it like they did Texas chainsaw video game
Yeah, I recorded this a year ago and was lazy to put out sense its 3 hours long.
@@HelloMellowXVI ohhh ok
Also the mini series was a 2 parter on ABC Television back in the day. I remember it showed the first half, and we had to wait a week before seeing the second half. The anticipation was killing me to know what happened. I remember seeing it on when I Debut. Love this movie and I always say watch this first and then watch the Remake. Love the OG, but the Remake was *chef's kiss.
also, the between the year OG came out and the Remake came out was 27 years apart. Fun detail from the film makers. :D
Pennywise was the original troller, and he taught us all how to troll. Just in time for the internet to arrive.
Love Harry Anderson, he's a classic actor, even with his awful jokes lol
I remember my friends forcing me to watch this as a form of intervention XD my fear of clowns :')..... I just realized that's Seth Green 0_0 & Ray Campbell ???
15:11 Mell laughing in perfect sync
with the kids and then how he stopped laughing in sync as well was already funny to me but that
"Oh Shit" was the cherry on top
Mell is one of the funniest reactors
Now it's it 2017 turn
