It's amazing how much Cold Shoulder varies from person to person, like mine has only slight discoloration, but some of them like this have gone wild! I'm surprised mine is the way it is, it's been situated in many different ways since I bought it. Anyway Frosted Metals is the first collection/polish I bought from Holo Taco and Cold Shoulder was my fav so I still miss it 😔
I guess it must have been a bad batch for the ones that discolored and you got lucky with the good batches! 😊 Although, I think the discolored batch is still pretty 😅
this is SO interesting! I ran to check mine, which I got a few months after it was released. Sure enough it's much more of a denim/dusty blue than a cobalt
I didn't know that was a reason why they discontinued it. I own every polish too and all 3 have happened to me. Not as bad as yours though but def is more grey. I actually had to add blue freezie to it to make it look more blue but it's not the same at all.
Oh wow, that’s a smart idea to semi save it! 😅 I think there were a bunch of reasons, like it was one of the worst sellers that year, it was difficult to source the pigments, but I have seen sooo many people complain of these discoloration and formula issues so that combined with HT being unable to source the proper pigments probably just created a perfect spell for discontinuing it 😭😭
Yeah my cold shoulder looks like yours and i was so sad when i discovered it had changed. I thought it was just me until i looked it up. Thank you for sharing! I love Holo Taco!
Oh interesting! I missed out on cold shoulder but the frosted metals from HT are some of my favorites, so it's interesting to hear more of why CS was phased out. Thank you!
SO THATS WHY I thought I was the only one with this issue!! Mine has turned gray/cobalt and it's super thin. I wasn't a huge fan of the color but I was disappointed to see it go out 😢
I just checked mine rn because of this short. It does a bit more runny and maybe a tad milky but it is still a nice blue. I'm gonna start using it more so I can use it up before it changes more. RN it still looks vibrant
It recently happened to mine, too. HT said that their polishes are good for 18-24 months, and since I bought mine at launch, it had reached its shelf life. This also happened to my Heavy Metal Mixtape. Every other frosted metal formula I have is still holding up. It makes me weary to purchase frosted metals, which sucks because it's my favorite formula.
Mine discolored too, and it’s always fun to see other people who have every box, and every color so I can show my SO that I’m normal 😂😂 as if he didn’t support my addiction ❤
oh my god i had gone through my collection to buy backups during the sale and I saw my cold shoulder is just like this!! my heart goes 💔. i loved it for winter manis
Same thing has happend to my Cold Shoulder! I thought, I did something wrong with it - so thanks for sharing your experience!❤ I'm just sad that it's discontinued - now that looks so different from the other metallic foils...
Omg i literally just finished a mani with and old Cold Shoulder and Crystal Skies bc the new Crystal Skies polish reminded me the the muted vibe if the old Cold Shoulder
It looks so swampy and mossy now, i kinda like it; but I get it that many people despise green polishes when they had blues (color lovers). I can get the frustrations. The foil would have never stayed perfect. The discoloration is from the aluminum.
I just painted my nails with the OG frosted metals. This happened to my bottle of Cold Shoulder too. I wish I had gotten lucky and it had remained that true blue, especially since I didn't get a backup bottle before it was discontinued. But the teal is pretty in its own way. I also have every Holo Taco polish too, and this is the only one I have noticed any kind of degradation.
Damn. I was wondering if others knew about this. I would like to say that a bottle of Heavy Metal Mixtape is also getting murky/cloudy however, I also shake my bottles vigorously even when I'm not going to use them immediately. So that might've been some slight user error. Thankfully, I have me a backup!
Oooo, the end result is surprisingly pretty! Does this happen to any other colors/formulas? So I'm in the textile industry, but used to work for a small bag company, and it's hard to test for longevity, especially as a small business. There's lightboxes to test UV fading, but we couldn't afford one and had to trust the factory. There's hundreds of test methods to determine how fabric will wear, essentially speeding up the process. Now I'm curious how polish is tested! The pigment could also be degraded by the other ingredients, not sure how you could accelerate that process.
Mine looks real similar to this maybe slightly darker. I bought mine right before they announced retiring it. Always fun to pull it out occasionally and see what it looks like now.
Mine has somewhat changed color but not nearly as bad as this. But honestly even if it did, I wouldn’t even be mad. That murky teal has such an ocean mermaid siren aesthetic
Ummm omg this is an impossible question!!! I usually just say mint mojito because a linear holographic mint is everything I never knew I needed, but I really have so many other favorites that it’s so hard to narrow it down. But mint is my favorite color so I am a huge fan of mint mojito 😍. Impatiently waiting for the day we get a mint holo glitter polish. What about you?
Laven-duh turns pink when oxidized 🙃 but only half of it, so when you wear it, parts oxidize pink and others don't, regardless of using on brand base coat and glossy taco
I went to check for mine immediately! And there he was, dead, dull, deteriorated, upright in his box with no sunlight to harm him, but still. I maybe wore him twice cos im not much of a blue wearing person, but never the less I am sad. 😢
Oh my gosh! I just was checking out my frosted metals box that was a gift, and my cold shoulder was deteriorated just like that. I thought that it was moldy so now I know.
This happened to mine, and not that one, but also my Fake Date from the same collection has gone off too. It's become more of an orangey rose gold instead of remaining pink.
I don’t recall Cristine ever saying this played into the discontinuation - she discontinued it in the end of year sales result stream as it was the worst selling polish of 2021.
In her YT short from December 31st 2022 she explained that one reason for discontinuing was that pigments might not be available anymore or because the pigments changed and no longer look the same
@@Haysalto Ah, I read into that stream as a more general statement on why she may discontinue something - as she was talking about the lead up to the 2023 discontinuations. When she announced cold shoulders discontinuation at the data stream almost a year prior, it was strictly that it was the worst seller.
I have always wanted to!!! Their polishes look absolutely gorgeous. I can’t believe I don’t own a single ILNP polish despite my gigantic polish collection. Do you have any recommendations of must-have ILNP polishes?
That’s the main reason they discontinued it, but simply stated that the pigments changing was also an issue (and not being able to get the correct pigments anymore)
🤷🏻♀️I have nail polishes from this brand that is older than this one and they still look perfect! Most of the polish in my collection has not deteriorated despite being a couple years old. And considering many customers have issues with this specific polish and not the brand in general, I think it’s more just a formula issue than solely the fact that the polish is older.
Umm. If those flakes are real metal then it's probably oxidation on the flakes leaching into the polish and discoloring it. That's not good though because metal oxidation can be toxic and is easily absorbed through the nails. I wouldn't be using that polish no matter how pretty the color.
There are no metals, it's more likely the blue pigment on the flakes deteriorating, which is why the flakes in the polish turned silver. The only metal in this polish is the little mixing balls, which after fishing mine out of the bottle show no signs of deterioration.
@@Haysalto from memory, she was very coy about the reason it was discontinued, and never explicitly acknowledged the discolouration issues. Probably to avoid a sea of requested refunds.
looks like they gave that formula the Cold Shoulder after all the discoloration complaints lol …I’ll see myself out the door now, sorry, that was terrible
Oh wow that teal is absolutely stunning though
It’s wild how it morphed into this wicked dark teal!! Pretty cool!
I don't even wear nail polish, but Holo Taco and Cristine and Ben make me want those colours!
They’ve got such a wide selection of awesome polishes! I definitely recommend! 😍
That murky teal is gorgeous though
It is pretty unique! I wish I had a dupe of this in a better formula that wasn’t so thin and difficult to apply

Mine suffered quite a dramatic change as well. Shame that. Hope they bring it back with a better formula
I had no idea that’s part of the reason! 😱 I thought it just sold so poorly
The case of cold shoulder has been documented by fans in a spreadsheet I believe showing many peoples cs changes. Great vid.
Thank you! Yes, I participated in that spreadsheet experiment!! The organizers did a great job of putting everything together!
I have had no problems with mine and I bought extras after it came out. Guess I got lucky 😮
Omg you are the CHOSEN ONE! I’m jealous! 😂
I guess it must have been a bad batch for the ones that discolored and you got lucky with the good batches! 😊 Although, I think the discolored batch is still pretty 😅
This is so good to know. I missed Cold Shoulder and wish they’d bring it or a blue frosted metal back to the lineup!

Ooooh keep us updated! 🧐
@@Haysalto it looked the same as I remember! 💙 I really love how yours aged so I was actually a little disappointed! 😅💖

Cold Shoulder was giving……..The cold shoulder😂😂😂😂😂😂❤ I love Christine Her product always looks amazing even this one ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Yooooo I thought I was hallucinating the color change 😵💫 my bottle is teal too
😂 you’re not alone!! It’s a real thing!
My frosted metals from that original launch are all a little discolored now. Most have a yellowish hue to them now 😭
I like the teal better tbh
LOL its really pretty now too tho! XD

yo what? I should check my bottle

looks like they gave that formula the Cold Shoulder after all the discoloration complaints lol
…I’ll see myself out the door now, sorry, that was terrible

give your nails a rest
