Out of curiosity, at the very end, it seemed like the grenade didn't go off right away. I'm wondering if this is one of those weird 'timed actions in an otherwise turn based game' where you COULD have walked out of the way if you were quick. (it reminds me of the floor timer elapsed boss in Loot Rascals, which moves in real time in a turn based roguelike to chase you)
@@StudyTeatime yeah, I think the last update fixed both of these. It now works with the boss and Kingly alms weird how Tyler found the two black mist glitches
not quite, it's beneficial to the player. Bombs explode after the enemy's turn (pieces move, then xplode), if they don't have a turn, there's no opportunity to explode. Similarly, despite the game's warnings, you cannot be killed on an extra turn, so you can use them to get out of tricky situations death free. edit: keep in mind it does matter which turn is "extra", bombs -> knights == upcoming turn is free. Bullet -> knight, extra turn is expended immediately, upcoming turn is not free.
The synergies from the extra turn cards gets rediculous if you have the right cards to support it. Killing knights can get a free turn, which nets a soul card, which can then also be used for another free turn. These synergize with strafe to allow for feee turns moving and firing with soul cards. You can kill half the enemy army in one turn.
There's a classic Chess Variant called Atomic Chess, where all captured pieces explode in a 3x3 radius, destroying pieces friend and foe. This leads to a funny edge case - if you place your king next to the enemy's king (there's no check rules in this variant) you threaten a draw, because both kings will blow up simultaneously. MAD in chess format.
@@Patashu In fact, once that happens, you should be able to force a draw. No matter where their king moves, you can just follow. They can never take your king because it will kill theirs.
This must be an earlier version, black mist has saved me from this exact scenario. Sad to see the run end this way, but hopefully that means more in the future! ❤
Oof, i've always feared that happening, ... thanks for testing something i was too much of a coward to. Mechanic tip: you can use bombs at any range, don't confuse it for the range of your shotgun, in a similar line of thought, most right click/active (wands) mechanics have hidden aspects that vastly change their appeal (most for the better), i'd recommend confirming they work as you'd think. Also, the achievements for this game, whilst some are of the thought of "friendly combo", the majority of them are mean and are a struggle to finish even on normal difficulty (if you're looking for a break from the harder difficulties, here's something else to do). there are also a few... mysteries there (i have ideas, but are yet to solve, don't spoil)
@@Feraldok They hit everything they land next to. You just can't be guaranteed they'll go where you want. Against a board with a ton of white pieces (like the pawns he spawned) the bounce is inconsequential. Bonus is that even if it kills a piece blocking a discovered check, you don't lose.
@@umchoyka yes they hit everything around the bomb in a 3x3 area, but from what I have seen in his game and from my games I am pretty sure they bounce around more often and way farther when u throw them from a distance. When you throw them only 4 spaces away they will most likely only bounce once a couple of tiles.
@@Feraldok Correct, but if you aim at the back rank it only usually hops as far as the second rank, occasionally the third. You can clear quite a few pieces before coming under attack, especially once you have the moat and a couple of ammo upgrades.
yeah and that's why grenades are a bad item they are good against some pawn groups, and sure, if you have the downpour wand it can really come into its own. But it guzzles ammo, random in where it lands, horrible at close range, and sometimes it can just fuck you on the bounces.
Grenades definitely have their time and place, especially at higher difficulties. On Hard, they consume ammo at exactly the same rate as a normal shotgun blast, since loaded shells is effectively twice as expensive as unloaded ammo.
I like grenades because it can lead to cheesy kills 2 grenades hit the king? Well now unless you gave him more health he has 2 hp and sometimes he's open enough for you to blitz him and win
If you hold shift it turns on a unsafe mode in which the shields don't protect you, it's good for if you have sacred crown or you know that you're gonna kill a piece on the board.
Grenades make the game easy mode: - They have unlimited range. Downside is that the further you lob them the more they bounce around before exploding. This doesn't matter especially once there are a lot of enemies on board as you're almost always guaranteed to hit something. If you start by aiming at the king on the back rank, you're almost always going to hit something valuable. - They don't cause you to die from discovered check. Killing a pawn blocking a queen in your direct line doesn't kill you - They don't need loaded ammo. In addition, you appear to haven't understood how gaining ammo works: If you move, first you reload your gun. If your gun can't be reloaded (because it's full or you're out of ammo) then you gain ammo instead. If you don't keep firing every other turn, you can gain ammo quickly by moving a bunch of times in a row. I've easily beaten King mode with a grenade build, it's the easiest way to win that I've found so far.
Been loving this game lately! Am I the only one who thinks ho should do twitch plays vampire survivors? He controls the character and twitch chooses everything else. Keep up the great content!
Hey tyler! Just figured i’d give you a tip since i don’t think it’s mentioned anywhere. If you keep your gun fully loaded then you regen 1 ammo per turn rather than 1 ammo every two turns.

unfaithful steed is god-like you just gotta keep at least 1 knight on the board to get his cards, and some soul slots to move across the board like a mad man

i get the feeling a good strategy is to do all your reloading at once by moving multiple turns in a row when your gun is already loaded, since if you keep shooting, you have to waste 2 turns by gaining ammo, then reloading your gun
The black mist might not of activated because there weren't any spaces nearby for you to move to (since it tries to move you out of danger), but that's just a guess.
13:03 I'm... Not convinced the devs know what the word "genderqueer" means, especially when the graphic and piece choice (bishop [man] to queen [woman]) already imply very binary identities.
