    you should paint some Space Marines eliminators in a raptor scheme. I've been seeing a lot of DIY ghillie suits on raptors and they look so sweet!

    Very cool to see one of the lesser known chapters to get a video, especially in the grimdark painting style. If I may be so rude: I'd love to see you do the Exorcists.

    Great work. One tip if I may, prior to washes, varnish using gloss instead of matte as you do in this video, as washes and oil paints flow into the recessed areas and details much easier over gloss than they do over matte. (There is less surface tension with gloss) You can always give it a coat of matte varnish after the washes. It may just make your cleaning of the washes stage a little easier. 👍🏼 cheers!

    • @aanler
      @aanler 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Except you get a completely different effect, and lose a lot of the filtrering from the washes. What he's doing is just fine.

      @@robp5141you’re right though, a gloss varnish before the wash is perfect to help direct the wash into the appropriate areas, and it can always be dulled down later after all the final details with a nice protective matte varnish

  • @stephenrichardson8529
    @stephenrichardson8529 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    One technique I started doing (more so on fully armored models since cloth isn’t shiny lol) is I will varnish the armor with a gloss spray let it fulled dry. Then add decals or any faces or additions that aren’t metal to the model and final step is to spray it with a matte finish. This gives the models armor a more muted sheen to it that can make your models armor look genuinely metallic without being stupid and tacky in contrast. A nice added effect is it forces the light to naturally blend whatever lighting shading you’ve painted on

    • @stephenrichardson8529
      @stephenrichardson8529 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Also have you tried priming them with a dark brown instead of black? Just curious. Over all tho this is now my official raptors painting tutorial for my models! Great video! I Subscribed and even hit the bell!

    • @QuintonWatsonDesign
      @QuintonWatsonDesign  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Thats one way to do it! I personally don't like shiny armor, its just no really my thing so i don't use gloss varnishes that much. But that is a interesting idea I a may try it for myself to see how it turns out! Thanks for the suggestion!

      @@stephenrichardson8529 Black has always worked out best for me, I guess i have a fear of other spray paints not working as intended so i always just go for black 😅

    • @stephenrichardson8529
      @stephenrichardson8529 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I get that. I think it can give a good contrast for sure to certain chapters depending on their colors giving the armor itself a very light sheen and then adding your dirt and mud and rust with a matte

    That's a nice Raptor! I've been wanting to try out some enamel products and other oil paints but the white spirits tend to make me a fair bit woozy and tired a bit too long after I use them. So I think I'll have to stick to the casual grimdark liquids, Nuln Oil and Agrax Earthshade.
    You might already know this, but VMC Refractive Green is also a solid dark military green, it has become my go to base color for schemes like this one :)

  • @Max80well80
    @Max80well80 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Rust on the helmet did a great job of achieving separation, color contrast with the blue lenses is really nice too! I think your bases could use a bit of spackle to cover up the cork sheet's.. sheetyness? not a word but you get the idea.

    • @QuintonWatsonDesign
      @QuintonWatsonDesign  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I clear coat my base colours before adding oil based washes as well; just peace of mind if I have to apply multiple oil finishes and solvents.
    Also, make-up sponges from dollar stores are great for removing and working oils. They're super absorbent, you can cut them to different sizes, and the best part is they don't leave lint behind like cotton buds can.

    • @theak1910
      @theak1910 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Raptors don't have a set, that's why you can't find them. You'll have to get a generic Astartes set and decorate them yourself. It's pretty easy for Raptors though, they don't deviate much from generic marines. Stick some bandoliers and pouches on them and you're set. Most Marine sets come with some pouches anyway, and there's loads of third party decorations for sale.
