As a lapsed hobbyist (and Dark Angels player), your videos have been fantastic to watch and get inspired in so many ways. Congrats on such a great project.
Really love what you did with the Sternguard color scheme, and the Ravenwing Infiltrator. I ended up putting all the Phobos armor in the 10th, with the tri-color scheme, but Ravenwing just makes sense.
After years of knowing about 40k and reading lore and whatnot, about a year ago I decided to finally get some miniatures and start building an army and chose Dark Angels. Getting models where I live is kinda difficult but after some failed attemps on resin minis I managed to get a DA Combat Patrol, the Lion and a Phobos Strike Team for Kill Team, I'm halfway on the paint on the combat patrol and all your videos have been really inspiring on how to approach this. Thanks, Rob!
Ahhh enjoy it! Especially the lion! Really pleased they’ve helped or inspired, I was originally very hesitant to do a video on just ‘stuff I’ve painted’ so I’m really happy at how these Vlog type things have resonated with people.
Mate we’ve spoken before but I just wanted to thank you again for the videos and inspiration. You are without doubt my favourite DA creator and your style and thought process when it comes to making your army personalised in your own lore mirrors my own. Thanks and keep them coming 😉
Thanks! Not so much with earlier models but later I found having a personal story attached to a mini helped the vision - it’s great seeing a them all on the shelf looking so unique
Those are gorgeous Angels brother. They are next level great. I am painting Rubric Marines atm but I see Dark Angels on the horizon. Thanks for the inspiration.
this video came across my feed at just the right time. I was a dark angels player a while ago (5th-8th edition) and I had since moved on from the faction. I felt the need to test my acquired skill on an old army and i was painting a few dark angels when this came across the playlist. you're so right, painting dark angels again just felt comfortable all over again. I think i'll treat myself to getting the primarch as a re- introduction to the first legion.
They’ve become a bit like soup on a warm day, whenever I feel a little indecisive about what I want to do, I pick a little kitbashed DA off the shelf and just crack on, I always feel quite re-energised after it’s finished and enjoy seeing my army grow one by one, best legion there is. The lions a great mini, have fun with that one!
As a Dark Angels painter myself (started with 40k in March 2024) this is such a inspiration! Really cool what you did with your kit bashes, gives me lots of ideas for my own army. Pls keep the Dark Angels content comming, you got my sub :D
I really enjoyed this and it made so much sense to me. At 58 I used to be a 40K player and Warhammer player some 40 to 30 years ago. Now I can't retain the rules or how often they change, nor do I now have teh circle of friends I had bac then. But I still love to paint the miniatures. I am looking to paint up Black Templar and Dark Angels Combat patrol boxes for my son and daughter. So I will be looking through your videos. Subbed. 👍👍😉
I think sometimes people just expect you to know about every aspect of Warhammer sometimes, every one does the hobby differently and gets different things out of it I personally am rubbish with rules (I can play kill team competently-ish and Warcry that's really it) and I've tried a few books and it just wasn't for me, I think as long as you enjoy it that's all that matters, hobbying is a really personal thing I find and there is no right or wrong way to ever do it. Also it so nice you paint stuff up for your kids, my two will sometimes paint with me and its always a pleasure.
I accidentally made almost the exact same character that you have with the powerfist and the plasma Pistol. I broke a piece for my hell blasters kit and just put some pieces on to make like a grizzled second in command, but kept the plasma battery pack on his back, just cut off the tubing and smoothed it out. I thought it came out pretty nice, and it adds some random flavor
@@cat_or_rabbitI apologize, I meant the one on your deathwing intercessor squad. Obviously not the hardest to replicate close to but I thought it was funny cus I even used the same head & a shoes in scabbard. I had just finished priming him and then saw your video. Hopefully he turns out good, he's gonna be like the 4th miniature I've ever painted
Just found your channel friend! With ADEPTICON done I’m also starting my projects for the coming year… can wait to binge your content as I hobby 😊…. Subbed! And keep up the great work
Really great job! I don't have enough time to paint like I wish, but slowly I build my DA army. Next squad is Sternguard Vets kitbash with hoods in the Deathwing colours.
Lovely collection there mate. Don't sell yourself short on what you have achieved, coverting and painting them all. Oddly my Black Templars started as "juat one for fun" 😂😂😂
Ive enjoyed these vids, your Sternguard squad is special, its the squad that also inspired me to kick off kitbashing, problem is i keep getting ideas, have been kitbashing more and more squads like devastators etc for my templars. 😂 So many thanks for inspiring us.
Thanks! the Sternguard turned out really well in my opinion especially as the kitbash's are all relatively simple, problem I have is I see a cool bit and think, id love to use that! and end up basing the model round the part, and with so many bespoke DA bits out there - this happens a lot!
Love what you have done with this, I have about 8 minis all kit bashed as DA just not decided on scheme. I like the older 30k black and red look but can't decide if to go white with terminators I saw the same cult of paint video with the white scheme
I've been tempted a few times to do the older 30k look (might do that for a future project) personally I think its great to have some variation in an army, but kitbashing is what tops it for me!
Fantastic collection. Slowly continuing my deathwing and dark angel army myself. Where did you get the hooded heads from? DA seem to be a big fan of hooded heads
Thanks! You can get some hooded helmets in the new DA upgrade sprue or the DA veterans kit, which is also an amazing kit to own for cheeky DA kitbashing
I feel a sort of connection with you. I started with 40k modelling over a year ago, and I started to collect Dark Angels exactly the same time as you did. We've had a lot of great models and books throughout this past year or so, haven't we?
the new stuff is great (I am yet to grab the inner circle companions or Asmodai - but will soon!) its just an all round great army in my eyes and there is so much you can do with it, its been alot of fun so far!
You've painted twice as many as me, great work! I'm still struggling with bone armour, that's this years challenge. At least my landraider is now base coated!
My comforter is my urban camo raptors. I love their lore, but not green. All the characters are camo too, but the librarian's right arm is blue, the chaplain has a black right arm, and the apothecary has a white arm. They're all wearing helmets, every squad has an infiltrator power pack somewhere. Got an Invictor dressed like a camouflaged loader from Aliens carrying extra gear. At least one model in each squad has a backup weapon from a different source, guard lasguns, cult shotguns, Tau marker lights...
I'm 44 and I've only been painting for 6 months or so... Nothing is finished, mostly built, but I've got the war suit primed and a squad of infiltrators and intercessors base coloured along with the primaris chaplain and Phobos librarian awaiting some detailing , just started the apothecary. I'm having some trouble focusing and getting stuff done, I enjoy the model building too much and my painting is pretty poor. But when I get to a battle ready standard I will definitely be showing some stuff off.
it can be tricky sometimes especially with juggling multiple projects, i find its much easier for my mindset to build one, and then paint it - otherwise i just get overwhelmed, let me know when you do, id love to see! @@rickdriver0

The stern guard/veterans are probably my favourite unit I’ve done, and I just like the idea of infiltrators being ravenwing, just makes sense to me!

I'm using your scheme as a guideline to customise all my characters in Space Marine 2 haha
Looool that’s awesome tho!
This was a great video. I can’t wait to start painting my Dark Angels. Thank you.
Enjoy it! they're a blank canvas for ideas that can also be interwoven into existing lore and this makes them soooooo much fun to paint up!
All of my conversions are 3rd party or lore related and I can’t wait to paint them up to bring them to life. 💪
as a dark angels player i love your army, and it give me realy good idear´s to make a story with my unit. thanks for that
