This WONDERFUL HUMBLE MAN actually thought he would be totally forgotten when he died. Here we are almost 50 YEARS after the fact...Him being forgotten AIN'T HAPPENING!

Love your Elvis reactions. Elvis thought young people at this time in his career forgot about him. What he never realized is that they simply were growing older, and that new generations of young people would become huge admirers ... male, female, black, white and everyone in between. That would REALLY make Elvis cry tears of JOY. He wanted to bring people together, and he really succeeded. Best that ever did it.

Elvis was not crying..he was sweating. the lights are very hot and his jewel studded outfit was very heavy. Yes he is a legend . I was a teenager when he burst on the music and was on the Ed Sullivan show on tv. Loved him from the beginning to the end of his life which came too soon. He was only 42. The greatest performer ever who with an awesom voice.

Not crying just sweat. He was so active in his performances he also had so many precious stones on the suit some say it weighted about 30 lbs. He could make people cry thoug h. He was Executive producer of his music and directed with looks and hand gestures. He had perfect pitch and a 3 octave note range. He played piano by ear. This concert he did for Cancer fund. He raised $75,000 which for those days would be double now. Love your great reactions. Thanks

Lot of perspiration coming down from his forehead underneath his hair, see it on closeups -- from a very warm jumpsuit & huge mega hot house lights & stage lights. The meaning of Trilogy: a medley of three uniquely American pieces: “Dixie,” (dixie means the states down south in the U.S.); “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” a marching hymn of the Union Army during the American Civil War; and “All My Trials,” a Bahamian lullaby related to African American spirituals sung by protesting folksingers of the 1950s. The auditorium held 6,000 people that night -- it was large enough for 8,400 but they had to make room for all the musicians & the ramp -- the ramp manager Parker didn't want built, but Elvis went over Parker's head & told the producer Marty Pasetta to build it -- that way he was able to walk out & get close to the audience.

It's really nice to see younger people, 49 years after this aired, 45 years after he passed, amazed by Elvis's abilities. I know I still am!
Half a century, and the Aloha concert still, to me anyway, doesn't look or sound old -- like ig would have been just fine, culturally speaking, if it were produced today.
Aloha From Hawaii was Elvis's last big challenge -- and it was a spectacular success!

Tickets for any Elvis concert were usually sold out within 48 hours. If you weren't quick you didn't get one. My mom snagged tickets fir us twice in 1972. The concert early in the year I was 10 abd it was my first concert ever. That summer my parents split up and mom abd us 2 girls moved to Arizona. For my 11th birthday I got to see him in concert the second time. Those are memories I will never ever forget abd will always cherish.

I love how despite being the biggest star in the World at that time, he loved to showcase the talents of his band, orchestra and backing singers ... in this case, JD Sumner & the Stamps his male backing group, and the flautist Gabe Baltazar, who was in himself a very well known name in Jazz circles ... he passed away only in June 2022, at the age of 92.

Elvis developed an eye disease called glaucoma. The stage lights were very painful for his eyes. He started wearing sunglasses a lot of the time when not performing. He also had several other health issues that bothered him a lot. That is part of the reason he got so addicted to prescripted drugs.

  • @depper

Elvis' VIVE and Flex was WAY beyond anyone who ever stepped on a stage. MJ had his run, but never quite lived up to Elvis' authenticity as the greatest singer, dancer, musician and entertainer Earth had ever witnessed.

Elvis' legendary CHURCH VOICE ricocheted off the walls of that arena while being broadcast to ALMOST TWO BILLION PEOPLE via satellite. More people watched Elvis perform there that night than saw MANs FIRST WALK ON THE MOON.
A white man, proud of his Southern roots BUT a rebel against slavery and bigotry performing THIS medley in a NEW STATE (Hawaii) with white and black performers on stage was a complete rebellion with a purpose. And that purpose was to bring people together. Legends were assassinated for doing FAR LESS in the 1960s. Elvis was a voice that we need TODAY. His backstory growing up in a black hunger-stricken neighborhood DURING SEGREGATION & THE GREAT DEPRESSION in dirt poverty, with no running water or electricity was hardcore AF.
His twin brother died at birth and had to be BURIED IN A SHOEBOX. A shoebox. Elvis KNEW the streets, the ghetto and not having a pot to pee in. He was a REBEL. But he spoke exclusively through his music AND his backstage and off-set generous actions.
Fought for black musicians to be paid and respected, fought to have black artists enter in the front of buildings not black-only entrances, supported black-owned businesses, largely responsible for ending polio on American soil supported the vaccine on Tv, and donating the money to build the most famous children's hospital in the world, ST JUDES CHILDRENS HOSPITAL which has saved MILLIONS of children lives.

This was recorded in 1973 about 4 years before he died & is about end of slavery in U.S. It was 1st concert broadcast around world by satellite. Reports estimated concert was seen by 1.5 billion people in 36 countries. Concert raised $75,000 (equivalent to $494,400 in 2022) for Kui Lee Cancer Fund (singer who died of cancer in 1966).
Trilogy combines 3 songs together-“Dixie” (anthem of Confederate South during Civil War), "Battle Hymn Of The Republic" (anthem of Union North during Civil War to end slavery), & “All My Trials, Lord” (spiritual shows no matter how bleak situation seems, struggle will soon be over). All 3 songs have a lot of verses.
“Battle Hymn Of The Republic” is American patriotic song written by abolitionist Julia Ward Howe in 1861 during Civil War. After she heard Union troops singing “John Brown's Body,” she was encouraged to rewrite lyrics for song & use original tune. One verse of hymn says “let us live to make men free”-fight to end slavery. Howe's words angered southerners & Northern Union troops were frequently heard singing it.

He wasn't crying, he was sweating with the hot lights on him and each one of his outfits weighed between 25 and 35 pounds so he would sweat a lot while performing. The reason for the suits weighing so much was because of all the rhinestones on them.
