I remember when the Wii U came out. I honestly just thought it was the same thing as the Wii with a game pad for no reason. I had no idea they made any games for it aside from Breath of the Wild. It really looks like a cool system, and you were right. If they had called it ANYTHING but Wii U, it probably would have fared much better. Many people still had their Wii's during this time and wouldn't want to change out their already working system for something that was seemingly similar. (Not saying they were the same thing, but that's just how it had been presented). Great video!
Haha thank you so much! Agreed, the marketing angle just didn't work and it's really sad because it was an amazing console for the time. I appreciate it!
Nice video. I absolutely love the Wii U. I understand why it failed and with its flaws, it's still a great console. I'd also like to say that your videos are very well made, you deserve way more recognition!
Couldn't agree more! It really brought a lot of new stuff to the table and honestly I've been having a blast playing on mine for a long time haha. Thanks for the kind words, I really do appreciate it. :)
I ended up getting a used Wii U from my local shop right before the switch launched. Me and my brother loved the console as we played it daily with friends. I still use it daily and it’s easily one of my favorite consoles by Nintendo.
It may have failed for a lot of gamers and developers, but it didn't fail with me. There was just something about that little console that I really enjoyed, back then and STILL love years later. I've said numerous times that the Wii U is my all-time favorite video game console, just like how the N3DS line is my all-time favorite line of Nintendo handhelds and years later, my mind hasn't changed on both systems. I made a lot of playlists for both systems on my channel, as a way to shed some light on a lot of great games and other good things about each system. Some of the third-party games that the Wii U actually got weren't bad versions honestly. Games like Tekken Tag 2, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Legend of Kay, Warriors Orochi 3, Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams, Darksiders 1 and 2, Sonic Racing Transformed, ZombiU, Rayman Legends, Bayonetta 1 and 2, Hyrule Warriors, Pokken Tournament, etc. But aside from that, I never get tired of coming back and playing the Wii U. Great video, dude. Oh and for the record, that little skit at the beginning of the video you did where you put an "original Wii" on the GameCube was hilarious.
Thank you very much for the comment! And I feel the the exact same way. It really did a lot of new things that I don't think anyone was able to appreciate at the time (and even today it's such a versatile platform that it's impossible to pass up on). I really appreciate it!!
Fun fact, whatever birthday you have set for on your Wii u's main Mii, the menu will do a little celebration with confetti and the menu miis each time it's booted up only on that specific date. Haven't seen anyone mention it before
Another excellent video! Thanks again as another one I really enjoyed watching. All my friends in the UK also thought this was just an add on for the Wii even some that I thought were into video games :-) Had to sale my original black one when needed some cash to fix my first car but managed to get the white Wii U version on eBay a couple of years later and now I have kids they love playing it even today. Personally I now prefer the original Wii and playing some Wii/GameCube games on it. Been playing WWE2K13 on wii which is actually really good and Virtua Stirker 2002 edition on GameCube recently. Favourite Wii U memory is the year I got Sonic Racing Transformed and AC3 for my birthday (these were before MK8 days), exclusive Wreck Ralph character was cool!
That's good to hear!! There's still a lot of life left in older systems like the Wii U, it's quickly becoming my favorite place to play Wii and GC games as well. I hope it serves you & family well for a long time. Thanks for watching :)
Very entertaining video. Funny thing, I just introduced my sons brother to Watch Dogs on the Wii U this past weekend. We loved it. I hadn’t played it before and he is a teenager now and I thought he might like it. We both enjoyed it quite a bit on the Wii U, especially playing with a Pro Controller Meanwhile having the tablet near us for over world map for driving.
Thanks for watching! I was surprised with how well the Wii U port ran, it's pretty much on par with the PS3. Great game that didn't get enough praise when it came out.
I kind of agree with you on that topic. One aspect that I don't 100% agree on is that you only need a Wii U and a Switch to play the entire Nintendo history. It's almost true with the big exception of 3DS games. So I'd rather say if you own a Wii U, a 3DS and a Switch you can play everything they ever released. (Or you could just play on your PC 😂)
Honestly I don't know how that slipped my mind but yeah you're probably going to want a 3DS if you want to play most of the portable Nintendo library LMAO, might have to make a video about that at some point :) Thanks for watching!
I love this system. I originally got mine to play breath of the wild and to see how wii and gamecube games(via nintendont) would look with its native hdmi. Was disappointed with its lack of a decent upscaler for the vwii as it makes gc and wii games look almost as jaggedy as ps2 games on modern tvs x.x, but eh it has a regular av port for component and composite so you can use an ossc or retrotink for that stuff. Whats really cool is you can inject a bunch of ds games and use your tv for the top screen and the gamepad for the bottom screen. It's easily my favorite way to play chrono trigger ds or any ds game with mainly top screen action. The homebrew scene is awesome as well porting pc games and all kind of cool stuff
2:50: That is a VERY weak point to make as one can argue that Compaq and IBM kept making PCs with the same architecture from the early 1980s right up until the very end. So what? There was NOTHING wrong with that, and it is what makes PCs running Windows so compelling. My i7 Intel processor is just the latest x86 processor that can trace its routes back though the 8086 and even beyond. Your reaction seems to indicate that it was a mistake. It wasn't. And it made for 100% backwards compatibility, which MSFT and Sony did not have with their consoles largely because they kept changing architectures for no good reason. But sure, the Wii U was 7th Gen graphics in an 8th Gen world. That's because they refused to pay for better silicon from IBM and AMD, NOT because the latter didn't have it.
I got a black Wii U months ago and plan to mod it when I get a chance, this thing is pretty capable when modded according to reports, also I just like the look and feel of the game pad to lol
Absolutely! The Homebrew scene is such a strong point, it's still a great console for getting into game development if you have the right software as well. Thanks for watching :)
11:28: "You can play every single Nintendo game using just a Wii U and a Switch." Sorry, neither can play a SINGLE 3DS game. That's a pretty big library you just left out. And my PC can run 100% of all Nintendo games. Now THAT'S "really, really cool."
Great video! I remember not really caring about the Wii u when it was out and opted for the 3ds instead. I think I might pick one up in the near future before it gets really expensive. In terms of consoles that were considered failures though, I still think the GameCube is superior to the Wii u as I think the games it had were more unique and had more diverse Nintendo franchises and better 3rd party support. GameCube also has not had nearly as many ports as Wii U games have had which is weird to think about. Granted the Wii u can basically play all GameCube games and even use the official controller so it doesn't really matter. Keep up the good videos!
Hey thanks for watching!! I appreciate it - and I absolutely agree. The GameCube was by far my favorite console of all time, definitely have to make a video on it soon... but I still see a future where everyone starts to get curious about the Wii U and it starts going up in value. might be time to go for it!
I got the Wii U soon at it was released, and I played so many hours Mario Kart 8, and all Mario versions 3D, etc... As you said in the video, probably the best Nintendo games, made with passion :) The great thing is that now I don't need the switch, and I don't really like the Switch gamepads... Wii U has better ones, more accurate. Thanks a lot for the video, you are a great TH-camr, with very pleasant voice, flow, and nice jokes :) I hope you will hit the 1M Sub :)
I still have the wii u and since the nintendo eshop is closing soon im planning on getting games that I couldn’t play like the pikmin series and spaltoon
10:40: NO! The Wii U did NOT fail because of "poor marketing!" That is COMPLETE BS! They could have had the best marketing ever and it would not have sold even ONE more console! The Wii U was the console NO ONE asked for. And because of that, 3rd party devs couldn't easily bring the games they were making for the MUCH more powerful Xbox One and PS4 to the Wii U. THAT is why the Wii U failed. 10:15: Not one person on Earth spend the 6 long, dreadful years of the Wii U's life thinking it was an accessory to the Wii. I just bought a Wii U and I’m really excited I’m going to experience this system in 2022.🔥
Did u bought it brand new or it was refurbished or used? Because I’m trying to buy and brand new Wii U
@@andresfantauzzi3092 I bought it used, but it works great.
Nice :), just a pity that to play Mario Kart 8, network players are not anymore a lot like before, I enjoyed it so much the races with 12 players :)

About a month ago i purchased a (second hand) Wii U console
So far I’ve got 5 Wii games, and 4 Wii U disc games, with some more on order

One of my favorite WiiU games is Mario Party 10. One player using the GamePad as Bowser was such a fun concept

I always wanted a Wii u only because of that "tablet" and a system menu... Yes, only because of that

Right now you can't find Wii U for any reasonable price. Actually Wii U even cost more compare to price what retailers ask for the system.
