    "The Wii u eShop is closing and that means suddenly everyone cares about buying Wii u games...". Truer words than these have never been spoken before. People desperately want things that they cannot have even if they never cared about them before.

    • @classicpctinker5070
      @classicpctinker5070 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      True, but there's probably also a lot of legitimate discovery been done as well. I'm sure quite a few people only just now got serious about researching the Wii U's library in hopes of making the most of the final days of the eShop.

  • @Snivy102
    @Snivy102 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    People just follow the trend. The latest trend is "omg the eShop is closing, get these games while you can!" and so everyone has fomo for some reason that I don't understand. You should be modding your systems as soon as they lose official support so that they can receive useful updates from the hacking scene. For example, the PS Vita is better supported by fans - not just the games, but the actual system has software improvements that Sony wasn't willing to do. In a couple months all the trend followers will put their 3ds and WiiUs back in storage and will just stick to their Switch

    Imo this is why games need to be continuously re-released and/or reprinted. Unless you're a speculator or a scalper, there is zero reason for anyone to be against games being affordable for the masses.

      Nintendo is closing Wii u and will stop supporting it. What's the use of releasing games on 13 million Wii u console when the Switch is over 100 million. A fisherman would want to fish where all the fishes are. Same can be applied to companies.

    • @leeartlee915
      @leeartlee915 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You do realize physical games are about to die right? I think in 2022 digital sales accounted for 90% of all games.

    • @inasuma8180
      @inasuma8180 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is impractical financially. Nintendo shutting down eshop and internet services will indicate to their investors that the product is EOL. Printing games more is weird if they aren’t also producing consoles. Again, from a business perspective.

    • @shanez1215
      @shanez1215 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @inasuma I get not printing games, what I don't get is not re-releasing popular games on newer consoles if there's clearly demand for them.
      My point was that since most of the best games on Wii U were ported to Switch, the price of the Wii U versions is kept accessible.

  • @ianeons9278
    @ianeons9278 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    If you ask me the console itself will slowly go up in price over time. The games that haven't been ported will go up a fair amount but the games that have been ported will stay cheap on Wii U for now. But once the console inevitably hits its nostalgia renaissance around 2030-ish it's games will skyrocket in price the same as N64 and GameCube stuff now. However most collectors already own Wii Us and Wii U games so they've already checked that off the bucket list.

    I'm finally settling my family again after blowing the popsicle stand that is the west coast and I've had my (very modest) Wii U collection in storage for two years so I haven't been watching. I'm getting my game room up again so I just checked some Wii U prices today and was very disappointed at how low they are. I may be getting the wrong feeling off this but I believe my fears were realized that the re-releases on switch have crushed Wii U game prices. Still, to this day, I contend that the best Wii U game I've ever played is Nintendo Land. There is no better multiplayer experience than the Luigi's Mansion game on Nintendo land. If prices never go up on that game, I'll still be happy to play it with some friends and family any day.

    I actually disagree with a lot of this. I think that the games stuck on the Wii U will spike and probably not come back down with the eShop actually closed now. Same with the low print runs. With the world moving to an all digital future I think physical games are going to see more than one more boom and a console like the Wii U will be the next GameCube.

      @@Snivy102 lol. I understand what you mean. But with such a small run it’s just inevitable that Wii U prices will soar. There were over 58 million GameCube games released just in the US. Less than that were released for the Wii U in the whole world. Games like Xenoblade Chronicles X, Devils Third, Game & Wario, PM Color Splash. All these games and more are going to continue and rise in price and Wii U collecting is gonna be crazy in 10 years. That's insane, some of it may not even work if not played in a long time. Let alone switch has a foot in the Graveyard like xbox series s as ps5 is designing current gen games.
    Is funny how nintendo gets a free pass from their brand taxes compared to the $70 games nowadays lol though some were mad that digital store is $60 with old first party stuff (which yeah voucher is just tears and a new release within a year, hopefully fantasy life). 6:05 surprised pikmin 4 in a few months didn't make wii u pikmin 3 decrease.

    • @SuperNicktendo
      @SuperNicktendo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nintendo has a loyal fanbase willing to put up with almost anything. Even an aging Switch. Pikmin 4 probably won't have an impact on the Wii U version as long as the Switch version exists. The Wii U REALLY didn't perform well and a lot of people dropped it like a hot potato.

    • @MrVariant
      @MrVariant ปีที่แล้ว

      @SuperNicktendo yeah it's understandable. That big box controller is unwieldy and could have been its own system. Then of course they confused the older people who liked the wii, as though adding U is an extension they didn't need. Good analysis.
      I'm leaving xbox for the same reason as they don't acknowledge the series s was discounted filler (not bad for uninitiated given backwards compatibility of jade empire and 360 games) until the ps5 and series x were in normal stock, and God of war ps5 bundle is $510 so people are selling digital codes online for ragnarok to make a buck off it.
      XBox even bses about 3 billion gamers (countries outside US barely heard of it compared to playstation, and that's already a hard sell) more than the series s parity to x to frustrate current gen developers.
      MLB the show 23 failed game pass (or getting stuff I already bought or will only play once though its nice for the uninitiated or sports gamers even if bad madden/show compared to full price) as well, with early access paid not working nor owning game (you basically play a few days early on game pass with extras) and the 3/27/23 launch date they updated last minute to 3/28 tomorrow, which hopefully it'll play earlier than noon. It also has the ps5 $10 tax for no reason.

    The only games that are worth the opportunity cost on the wii, are SOME of the cardboard releases. That's it. I don't see any of the others outperforming other asset classes, and other vintage games.

    • @SuperNicktendo
      @SuperNicktendo  ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah I don't see most of the modern stuff taking off like vintage. This is almost like the collector market in the 90s where everything was seen as a collectible and it just folded.

    • @hw5091
      @hw5091 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SuperNicktendo yeah, I have some Wii u sealed stuff in at least near mint condition or better. Xenoblade x special edition, twilight princess amiibos bundle, Mario party 10 Mario amiibo bundle, n some other stuff like color splash, Xenoblade x, Luigi u, Zelda GameStop gold edition bought on clearance n specials. None graded, although I might grade my boxed stuff, they are all mint. All of these graded switch games, that are made in the millions and came after the boom, when everyone is buying n holding them, is just ridiculous. I collect major, big names in anything I collect for and I'm only buying high condition and only when it's highly discounted, to hedge downside. Basically all vintage stuff, like sega Saturn I've been after for quite some time now.

    • @SuperNicktendo
      @SuperNicktendo  ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah I have an older one and I was debating on if I should make one so close to the eShop closing for both systems. I might wait a bit and do it in April.

  • @warmsignal
    @warmsignal ปีที่แล้ว

    I think the 3DS is more interesting right now, because there are countless games within the past several weeks that have doubled or more. It's like people are slapping an unprecedented price on any and every 3DS game they have to see if it sells, and many of them are. Seems like the end for reasonable prices on 3DS. They could settle back down some, but they won't be as affordable as they were before.
