One thing that you did not realize is that it’s because in a real PC running Windows 95 you actually need the actual install DVD inserted in the optical disc drive in order to even run the program and make the options in the welcome to Windows 95 program work.
Ummm, DVD? Nah. It was a CD. It also came on 13 or 14 floppy disks (I still have mine somewhere, the cd and the floppy disks). I think the first windows install to come on DVD was 7. No, no. It was definitely Vista, or as it was called in the early days before it was released, Longhorn. I’m getting old. Bear with me. Even then, you don’t need an actual CD or DVD, just software to emulate a CD or DVD or mount a disc image (pretty sure that’s what’s going on here. Even if it isn’t, we had folders on drives we’d plug into the parallel port in those days). Depends entirely on use case. Not picking on you, just sharing my ancient knowledge.

I was born 1990 so although it was quite old by the time I was 8-10 I still remember installing Windows 95, hating it and trying windows 98, hating it less then moving back to XP. I also had the cleanest install of Windows XP on the planet, as I'd reinstall the OS whenever it started to get slow, which for me as the first Zoomer, it felt slow very quickly. I must have been one of the first kids to also play games on my PC whilst watching TV, which is the norm now. My kids watch TH-cam in mini screen whilst playing games, so pretty normal now.

That amount of ram is fine for Win95; I've run it on a 386 with 8mb "just fine." Not ideal to say the least, but it looked like a Pentium compared to this, lol. Still love that boot track, even if it is crunchy.

@@metrabyte03 Also, I got a laptop here with 8MB of RAM and 95 runs fine on it, though I haven't tried Ableton (the laptop has no sound card, so there's not much of a point). I'm assuming the issue here is that the CPU emulated is either too weak, or the 3DS is too weak to emulate it well. (Probably the latter.)

What's the Harvest Moon issue? Just about any GBA game should work when injected into Virtual Console, if you can get the save data configured correctly.
might be easier to read and a bit faster if set to lower res. this looked like it was drawing at a crazy high res. win95 was built with smaller low res displays in mind and should scale pretty well at something lower... unles you're already using I think 640x480 is official lowest
I sort of looked into trying to get it to go to a lower resolution, but gave up lol. It was actually running at 640x480 tho. The 3ds just has a super low res screen

Well, this is proof that it is at least *technically* possible. A guy could probably create a modified version of Windows 95 specifically for the 3DS if he really wanted to that would actually run well on it, but I don't think there are many people out there who'd be crazy enough to do it. But much like trying to connect a C64 to the internet, it's pretty much a waste of time. I mean, what are you going to do with Windows 95 on your 3DS? You'd show it off to your friends for 2 minutes to impress them and then never use it again.

It installs the joypad driver because sound cards used to be the interface joypads connected through (with the Game Port).
