The wii wasn’t just a gaming console,it was a cultural phenomenon
Agreed. Back in Gen 4 with the SNES and Genesis, gaming was still viewed as nothing more than toys for kids younger than high school age. The PS1 increased the age demographic that gaming appealed to up to high school age, the PS2 -- and original Xbox to some extent -- increased it again to people in their 20's and even 30's, but it was really the Wii that finally opened up gaming to everyone of all ages. The PS2 put consoles in lots of houses, but it was the Wii that was largely responsible for making gaming so popular that people were just as likely to own a gaming console as any other media device.
That everyone forgot about years later and no one talks about it besides the grown up children and nintendo fans
@@staringcorgi6475 Well I would expect Nintendo fans to like a Nintendo product.
@@staringcorgi6475Yet the WII in hindsight had a hand in making video games more mainstream than they would've been without it.

Underrated shouldn't be anywhere in the title. He's a fan boy but geez underrated it's one of the best selling consoles of all time. Chill tf no one honestly thinks its underrated except fan boys.
@@simplez4ck Its sales have nothing to do with its perception as being a console that was only good for casual players with games like Wii Sports with the rest of the library being shovelware.

@@itsamiianastasis5786 you're not helping
The Wii in my opinion is one of the best and my most nostalgic console. I still play it to this day.
100% Agreed, I even still buy Games for it that I always wanted to own. For Me It's right up there with The PS3.
Same lol but I mostly use it for GameCube games and virtual console and Wii ware
@@Marsalona I used to use it for VC and Wii Ware, but then one day I was unable to transfer any of my games from my SD card to the Wii console. I have like a 100 freaking games and they are all on my SD card but I can't play any of them. I've been wondering forever if something is broken or if I'm just too technologically illiterate to figure out what is going on.
Same, but recently my WIi's disc drive broke, so now it does not read any form of disc. Luckily, I might be getting a Wii from my cousins, and theirs works. I'd love to start collecting for the GC and Wii, but was limited since I'd need a new Wii to start. Now I don't need to spend a hundred dollars on potentially a WIi with the same problem, but the system and a bunch of games for free!
I mean it beat the 360 and ps3 sales wise and the only draw back it had compared to competitors was ram and graphics the cpu was pretty solid and im still impressed they got modern warfare 3 to run on it
"In five years, people will consider it the best Zelda game"
Jokes on you, it's only 2018 and fans are already asking for a remake.
Yeah but that’s in part that people still hate it. It would work better on the switch than on the wii. I honestly love skyward sword but I understand the reasons for why people hate it.
@@theaverageguy7690 People hate is for multiple different reasons, some I agree with, some I don't. As far as I'm concerned, motion controls worked great, but the game's painful slowness, linearity and handholding really hurt the whole experience. And that can't be simply fixed by a remake.
@@19Szabolcs91

I’m convinced Scott is from the future. He predicted super mario 3d all stars and the love of skyward sword
As much as I can rag on the Wii, this was one of my first game consoles, and I have so many fond memories of playing it with my sister and completing dumb shovelware games. Also, dangling around the Miis on the Mii Channel took up about 80% of my play time. The Wii really paved the way for Nintendo's future as well as other features like avatars and such, and I'm sad to see it overlooked so often.
Mur * if you don't have homebrew you need to get it on your wii

Zelda BOTW: I'm about to end this mans whole career.
It was released 10+ months before the video.
Skyward sword hd later this year: I'm about to fix this mans whole career.
Gotta say, I'm sick and tired of people jizzing all over BotW. It's a good game, but holy shit, it's not even in my top five Zelda titles -- and I'm a 3D-era player, I struggle to enjoy any of the top-down stuff.
BOTW is great, but i prefer the old traditional dungeon style like Twilight Princess and Ocarina of Time. I like the open worldness, but i hope it doesn’t revolutionize the Zelda franchise. after BOTW2, i hope they go back and make a game in the traditional style.

One of my favorite things about the Wiimote is its speaker and how it was used in some games, it could make surprisingly clear sounding audio, be it sound effects or voices, sure it wasn't ground breaking stuff for most games, but in my opinion it helped enhance the gameplay for at least some games, like LiT and Mystery Case Files: The Malgrave Incident, where you can hear another character talking to you through the Wiimote, giving you more info on what's going on and even some hints. (I'm only listing those two games cause those are the only ones I've played that do that with the Wiimote that stand out to me)

Olimar103 No. The story is decent for a Mario game, but the majority of the gameplay is filler and/or tedious.

Yeah, i didn't really liked the gameplay of Super Paper Mario. So much so that i ended up quitting after around 5 or so hours of play time. I thought the story was fine up until the point i was at but the shift from turn based gameplay to basically regular Mario gameplay turned me off from the game. My guess is that they didn't want to just to do TTYD again but replacing the turn based gameplay with the gameplay of the main series was not a good idea to me.
I never found the gameplay bad, in fact I enjoyed the game just as much as I did TTYD.

wildcaml jumpout However the wii was known by the mass public since it sold 100 millon.
Bonzi Buddy’s better brother You shouldn’t use urban dictionary for reference, unless it’s for modern colloquialisms. If you open up a real dictionary, you’ll see that the actual definition of underrated is, “to rate too low.” Really, you shouldn’t need a dictionary at all, since the word kinda describes itself. A rating has nothing to do with how much exposure something has. But a lot of people know about the Wii, own the Wii, and many of them don’t think very highly of it, despite its positive qualities. Therefore, it’s underrated.

I really want to be able to go back and enjoy Wii games, but I just CANNOT stand that pointing and waggling is necessary. It was cool back then, but now it's just irritating. I don't have a good enough PC to emulate the Wii either.
I really wish there was a way to emulate a Wiimote and nunchuck with a GameCube or USB controller on the Wii itself. There is so much in the way of Homebrew for the Wii, but it seems this sort of thing may not be possible.
I've never had a Wii due to the repelling motion control gimmick, but there are games that do interest me. I bought a gaming laptop recently and have been doing research on the Dolphin emulator and if a Dualshock 4 can replace the Wiimote/Nunchuck.
@@kiaba360-4 I have used Dolphin in the past as a sort of proof of concept. Never had a machine that could actual emulate the games at a reasonable pace.
@Supreme Suspender I have a fairly newish laptop. It just doesn't have a good enough GPU.
@@kiaba360-4 Let me guess -- you're interested in VR despite being repelled by the Wii.
@@CoralCopperHead I like watching the evolution of PSVR, but I wouldn't purchase it. I'm one-dimensional. All I want is a console and a controller. No handhelds, no extra peripherals or gimmicks.
Really enjoyed the video as it was really well thought out. Keep up the good work!
All of my thank guys! Love your stuff.
I like how all of the music in this video (aside from the standard closing song) are all from wii games. That's a nice touch.
The Wii and DS are literally my entire childhood
Scott redid his Gamecube video. Time for the Wii next.
I fucking love the Wii. I wish I still had mine. So many great 1st party games, and a ton of hidden gems as well. It's kinda ironic that one of the best selling consoles of all time is one of the most hated and underrated. But the Wii is one console I will always defend to the death. Same with the GameCube.
Finally, someone I can agree with (I still have my Wii and never plan on selling it)
What the fuck it was not hated at all stop ✋ making lies
My other comment aside, Netflix I felt had the better user interface upon it's release on the Wii. It just felt natural using the Wii remote to select, pause, rewind, and fast forward compared to the Xbox 360/PS3.
@Aidan Shoemaker yeah
The Wii is the first and only console I have owned we got it as a prize at our school fundraiser in 2006 I mainly played the sports titles with the game mat, Ballance bord and jump rope but recently got the wheel and the motion Plus adapter I just wish the online services still worked but I guess they can't support it forever and considering that the console has had nothing replaced except for the vga adapter it's held up pretty well for the last 15 years
I've so many great memories with this. Still my favourite console today.
If you didn’t have the homebrew channel then you didn’t experience the wii properly
AussieZimmo3 fr
What's that about the Homebrew Channel?
I had a wii mini
F
*don’t
Because of homebrew channel I’m STILL playing Wii till this day
My Wii never even had an Internet connection
Am I the only one who was the fucking best at wii music (maybe because I was 5/6 but still)
Also there’s like a fuckton more instruments and songs if u search hard enough
I just bought a Wii today! I used to have one way back, but it broke a long while ago. I love how the Wii is coming back through youtube creators such as Poofesure and NicroVeda. Can't wait to play some Wii Sports Resort, and try to get all the stamps!
No one: The IPhone is better than the Old Nokia 3310
Me: 0:02
The wii was my first game console
Kyle Tanking same
Same I remember being hyped when I was 4-5 getting it for my birthday
3ds then wii AND Nintendo switch
Haha XDXD 13 year olds unite!!!11!
Same, at the time I didn't even knew that Playstation was a thing, I still had it plugged in 4 months ago, that would make the console used over 10 years.
Why does everyone shit on the Wii for shovel-ware but just ignore the PS2's glaringly huge library of shovel-ware.
Skullomadness Agreed
Because the Ps2 had a better ratio between good and mediocre games.
+Retro Soul ps2 has like 10 000 games and most of those games were shovelware. PS1, PS2, Wii have the most shovelware but still great consoles if you play the killer apps.
Juan no console has 10,000 games, that is an exaggerated mythical number. Ps1 has around 1,100-1300 games, and the Ps2 has around 1,600-1,800 in my previous research. Still tons of games yes, and of course a percentage of that is shovel-ware but this should put the ratio in a better perspective. By comparison the Snes/Genesis/GameCube deviate around 700.
11:48 I ACTUALLY FUCKING HAVE CHICKEN SHOOT TOO. And I must say, that game has so much shovelware it could dig my have and shove me in it
I love how compact it is. I was able to fit it and a weeks worth of clothes into my backpack when I flew back home from college over a break
