I remember making this when I was around 10-12 for my parents. It’s still a recipe that I follow now that I’m 21. Absolutely delicious and brings back such good memories!
I made this tonight for my Japanese husband thta was absolutely craving this and your easy directions made even this cooking newbie foreigner into a hit! Thank you! (I was so freaked out removing the shells and the veins.. But, I did it!)
Cooking with Dog is the best. The most original for Japanese cuisine. This is exactly how I saw food was made at friends' houses in Japan. I guarantee it.
For people who don't know this, the bread crumbs she's using are referred to as 'soft'. This is 'Nama' Panko, and is probably easier to make yourself than it is to find in a store! The type most people are familiar with is Kanso Panko, which is dry. Kanso Panko will work, but it's easier to get a good and even coating if you use Nama panko. This is because you can press it around the shrimp. Think about molding a slice of soft white bread around a shrimp. Same concept here. Bon appetit!
I made this dish when I was a freshman in high school, I’m in college now. These shows are an absolute work of art. The recipes are easy to make because of how descriptively well the recipe is given. I love Francis to death, and I’m sure he’s eating all the food he can eat right now, rest in piece ❤️ you’ll always be remembered
why some people sooooo cruel? wrote those bullsh*t words. They upload the recipes and make these video for free! Dont you think this is a hard work? by the way i am thankful for you Cooking with Dog
I just discovered Cooking With Dog. It is delightful! The chef is very talented and makes cooking look so easy. I really liked the tip on cutting the underside so the prawns would not curl. Clever. I look forward to learning more. Francis does a good job of narrating. Thank you.
My first language isn't English , but I started watching this when I was 5 and have absolute no clue they dude was saying xD and I think it was 6 years ago?!
+QUAKING * No what was nasty that how he compared a human being with a dog..... so it was just a simple respond to his nasty comment....so when you "Spit at the sky,it lands right back at You".Get it?*
Long Time ago this Video was made, but it is very charming. And very good cooking. I worked in Japan, authentic Japanese cooking in its best form. I call it "The Art of Japanese cooking"! Thank you so much!
Oh my gosh it’s so lovely to stumble across this upload again and see Francis… my surname is France so he was definitely in my team… sending my love to chef, it can still hurt no matter how much time has passed 🥰🐩
You can use corn starch instead of the potato starch. Rinsing the prawns with the salt and starch will help to remove the sand (dirt) and fishy smell :)
Yummy! I love these cute little prawns; I've had them at restaurants before, but I've always been a bit hesitant about making them myself. Now I will most definitely try them! Thanks for showing us all the individual steps to making them. The tartar sauce also looks quite yummy. :)
Look at the dog at the end while the lady was tasting the prawns. it was like "you , you, i have been sitting quiet from past 20 and you are eating alone without giving me a piece"
Rabbitin Everything that has hair sheds to some degree. It is ok. Only a small amount of dog hair in the food is fine. No one will notice and everything taste same.
potato starch or flour is used to clean grime and poop from shrimp in this case... it also help neutralize fishiness. you can also use starch or four or mixture of both to clean fruits and vegetables..., it acts like a natural detergent help rid oil and pesticides from fruits and vegetables.
You might want to touch the raw prawn with a bit of your hand first. I can eat and touch cooked prawns but I didn't realise i had and allergy when touching raw prawns. So if you've never handled raw prawns before I'd test it on a small bit of skin first.
+Tabitha Akers Careful when you remove the sharp bit if that liquid gets in your eye, it will swell like crazy and burn like mad... its weird I have no allergies to shrimp or any shell fish, but my eye swelled shut and I ended up in the ER I should research if its a toxin in any way...I just remembered I poked my finger once and it too swelled up THANK YOU I just put 2 and 2 together Also if using farm raised shrimp the poop chute is much smaller and its mushie its like doing surgery to remove it and often you have to cut down the entire back, which is okay easier to flatten but less crispness This is way to long sorry
+1Alethiometer Yup there are toxins in not only salt water shrimp but freshwater as well I think the shrimp I mentioned above were freshwater hence the poop chute..I found this site www.medic8.com/healthguide/food-poisoning/shellfish-toxins.html The stuff the FDA allows is shocking Many of my food issues went away once I got organic and went steroid, hormone, and antibiotic free foods, Non GMO and grass fed and other properly feed livestock Shame on our Government..go figure
Well I think your issues are more due to an allergy, not general health safety concerns. All health measures are based on probability and most people will not be harmed by eating what is out there, but we all are individuals with our own needs which differentiate from the norm. We cook foods to denature bacteria and proteins inside our food which makes it easy for our body to break down. Lots of people can have reactions or illnesses from consuming or otherwise being exposed to raw ingredients when they can safely eat cooked or prepared ingredients. Your situation isn't uncommon. Keep in mind organic is not always safer, and organic does not mean they don't use pesticides or antibiotics (and the concern about antibiotics is not the use of it, but improper use of it). There is a lot of info written about the organic stuff, while we do want "higher quality" food, we do have to realize that a lot of the organic ideals are propagating old farming theories that have been proven to not be sustainable in the long run, especially on large scales. It is always a balance between quality and quantity. Also realize that GMO is just genetic recombination. No issue has ever been linked to GMO, as all living things are technically GMO. GMO is the only thing I can say with confidence that is not a concern, and the people promoting the fear of it are either just not educated in genetics, or are less than honest in that they want to sell you a premium price for sub standard foods.
Omg I tried this dish out today! :) It's my very first "high leveled" cooking I did in my life and it turned out good! :) Although it didn't turn out straight like yours, it's still pretty straight. My father, a chef, even commented on how good I did it for my first time! Thank you chef and Francis!
Yum thank you for this delicious way of making egg tartar sauce especially the way to prepare the chopped onion before adding to the boiled chopped egg and the way you prepare the lettuce in ice water and spinning dry as side salad ...love it thanks again also the way prawns are prepared for frying in bread crumbs ...yum... thank you! Japanese are good at preparing prawns dishes and sauces too!
Just made it for my Father and brother. They loved it! The Tartar sauce was freaking amazing too! Definitely going to start making my own instead of buying it from the store.
Nice idea to clean onion. One tip for onion that might be too strong is to cover with cold, lightly salted water with a teaspoon or two of vinegar and let stand in refrigerator for a couple of hours and drain well. This makes it mild and almost pickled in taste. Very nice in salad.
Thank you very much for this recipe! I am huge on Asian culture and have been practicing making meals. My girlfriend came over yesterday and she is the first person I have ever cooked for. I was nervous, but it turned out well and she loved it!
man this was crazy cool and looks crazy good! DEFINITELY way too many kitchen tools so i'd have to improvise but the deep frying and double dipping tip plus keeping the flour and bread crumbs separate is timeless advice for me! exactly what i needed to know as a brand spanking new cook. THANKS!!
Thank you so much for all these delicious recipes! I'm moving to Japan next week and I'll be living with a family who wants me to cook for them,so I'm searching for many japanese recipes and Cooking wit Dog is the best I've found! I get absolutely no doubt about the ingredients! (well, just some, like "How can I purchase one of those ingredients there? How are they called in japanese?") But, well, I'll search that on my own. THANK YOU!
I'm Mexican and I like the recipe for the shrimp, I will prepare a dish for my wife, write and speak English but is very excellent explanation of the video y que viva México señores y viva la cocina y el buen gusto por la comida

This was Yummy! Very Crispy! I In the dry flour, i mixed some salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder with some oregano and as i didnt have bread crumbs, i grinded normal soft white bread in a grinder and it became powder and used that.. It was awesome with some mayoneise and some celery! Thanks Chef :)
So let’s just say I remembered I watched this channel a lot in my childhood , and the second she finished the decorations on the plate (before she started to make the shrimps) I remembered that I had a dumb thought of dipping the stuff in the sauce and eat it , boom there’s dinner . 😓what was I thinking whenever I was small

SO glad to hear you've been watching our videos for a long time😆 Thank you for your continuous support🐩👩🍳💓
How I love to see your videos Chef! Even if Francis is not here anymore, we miss him but wherever he is, we send you lots of love from Mexico!

How to start an internet fight:
1. Write a comment.
2. Wait.
... You wanna try repeating that, scrub?!
u wanna fuckin go m8?
there they go. hahaha! idiots! hahah!
Victor Asero
It's hard to see if you understand the sarcasm, because you call these guys who attempted to troll you 'idiots'.
Johan Titulaer And there you and now I go proving Victors original comment right... Fucking great!
wait.. why do you need potato starch and salt if you're going to wash them off anyway??
That process (rub the prawns with the potato starch and salt and then rinse them off) will help remove the sands and also reduce the fishy smell. :)
couldnt it be done by lime juice??
Fadhly Sukawidjaja lime or lemon cooks it. Ceviche
+Fadhly Sukawidjaja To remove the dirt and smell. It says so in the video.
+Fadhly Sukawidjaja it clings to the dirt and fishy smell. you dont *have* to do it but it does make a difference.
Already 11 years and I still remember this channel ❤❤ good old memories
I've NEVER seen veins removed like that, but OMG that is genius. I'm doing this from now on!!
What is the potato starch for!!? Please someone explain me, thanks!!
In my opinion, they are for tendering the prawns. Potato starch can be used on other kinds of meat for this purpose as well
I think it is to remove the fishy smell.
I think they are for extra crisps..
can i use corn starch?
The dog is so cute

I love how Frances pronounces onion: 'on yeeee onnn' :-D
WHEN I GROW UP IM GONN MKE THIS ALL THE TIME
Until you get sick of it .....
Make a teriyaki chicken video pleaseeeeeee

I wanted to hear the narrator say " real lemon "
Please be my mother
Lmao
ummm. EVERYONE!!! IMPORTANT ANNOUCEMENT!!!!! I JUST FOUND THE REAL LIFE COOKING MAMA!!!
Wow now you said that
It is kinda like it!
Same
Just made it for my Father and brother. They loved it! The Tartar sauce was freaking amazing too! Definitely going to start making my own instead of buying it from the store.
She reminds me of my boyfriend's grandma. So sweet and innocent, willing to cook for anyone who walks through the door!
Who eats just 3 prawns?
Lmao If you're going through all that effort for just 3 prawns, might as well do an entire bag's worth
Oshin Whyte LMAO Frfr I was like Imma need at least 10 lol
Oshin Whyte waste of cooking time lol
I mean she only fried 3 but there's obviously more
Channel Name is called 'Cocking with Dog'
The dog didn't even help
True! 😂 But anyway, what can do a dog in the kitchen?
Pain chawarma
Meiji Marts at first I thought the dog was the meal
The dog is the director of the show.
stop talking trash about the dog --- it died last year ---
that dog...does nothing
*****
I think thats a 'she'
Yeah, but he/she has more personality than his human counterpart!
BRUH HES A DOG WHAT DO U GONNA DO IF HE MESSES UP UR FOOD, HUH
Lol you have to be grateful it didn't do anything , just imagine you finishing making the prawns after an hour and it ate them 😂
I know lol I am always impressed that the dog doesn't just lunge forward and take a few nibbles of the food they make!
Nice idea to clean onion. One tip for onion that might be too strong is to cover with cold, lightly salted water with a teaspoon or two of vinegar and let stand in refrigerator for a couple of hours and drain well. This makes it mild and almost pickled in taste. Very nice in salad.
I wonder what would happen if the poodle died. O_o
They would replace it with an identical poodle.
They would make a video on how to literally cook with dog (I AM JUST KIDDING O_O)
That's actually a great question because the Dog has the most personality and is definitely the star of the show! ;-]
That's a relevant question, considering Francis looks old in this video which was published almost 4 years ago.
When the dog had passed away...
Cook the dog!
LOL!
I bet it taste good.
and then who do you expect to make the show???
lollll!
you can't cook the host! that's just rude!
I wouldn't eat any food where a dog is sitting next to the food I am sure that there is a lot of dog hair in that food.
Highly doubtful. Nice ignorance though.
There are dogs that shed constantly and others that don’t. Poodles are one of them.
Mary L are you fucking eating it though? Exactly
Nobody wants to feed you, lady so it doesn't matter.
いつも美味しそうな物を、分かりやすく伝えて下さってありがとうございます☆
Francis is a good dog! Such good manners.
Thank you very much for this recipe! I am huge on Asian culture and have been practicing making meals. My girlfriend came over yesterday and she is the first person I have ever cooked for. I was nervous, but it turned out well and she loved it!
OMG CAN I JUST TAKE THE TIME TO SAY THAT I LOVE YOU AND YOUR RECIPES AND YOUR DOG!
What I really like is the piano instrument music, very relaxing. I'd like to play it when I'm in kitchen and bath.
I love your YT channel! One of the best food channels in YT. Simple but delicious Japanese cooking. Keep the videos coming! Arigato! :)
man this was crazy cool and looks crazy good! DEFINITELY way too many kitchen tools so i'd have to improvise but the deep frying and double dipping tip plus keeping the flour and bread crumbs separate is timeless advice for me! exactly what i needed to know as a brand spanking new cook. THANKS!!
anyone else feels happy and relaxed when watching this show?
Chef has such strong and capable hands!!
Wow .. I just made this dish shrimp dish for my wife... absolutly FANTASTIC.... cooking with dog rules.... 9/10...
