My sister fell in love with Evanescence the first time she heard Bring Me to Life, and her love for the band is what got me into rock music. She passed away years ago, and this song has always held a really special place in my heart. I almost started crying when I saw that you posted this today, as today is my sister's birthday, she would be 22. You perfectly explained all the emotions I feel from this song. Thank you so much for your reaction.
So so sorry for your loss. I also lost someone very close to me in a very tragic way and this is all I’ve been left with. This song was a huge part of our life when he was here and now that he’s not…well you can imagine. Sending prayers and love to you💫
This one is so haunting....Notice she never is able to touch the earth. She is a ghost held by him not letting go. Amy Lee's voice is so powerful with the emotion she sings with. This is simply amazingly beautiful. Amy Lee, vocal goddess!
Wow I felt it was someone that passed on, but didn’t get that it could be her. She’s in white and doesn’t touch the ground. Omg. Thank you for clearing that up. I appreciate it
@@jenniferbargo389 she did write 'like you" about her sister but, according to my reading, Amy Lee started 'My immortal" about a lost friendship and Ben Moody helped her with the music and lyrics. Maybe it morphed during the creation. He also lost his grandfather but I don't know when. In 2003, I believe, he dedicated this song to his grandfather. However, Since Amy lee's sister died at the age of three, when amy was 6, this song was written well after that passing. It's about a loss via death. So, it could fit both losses in one way or another. It's inconceivable that Amy lee's sister wasn't in her mind when this song was finished with alot of help from ben Moody. It is conceivable that since ben had such a big hand in the song and dedicated the song to his grandfather, that she wasn't going to claim it was about her sister although many of the lyrics support that more than a loss of friendship. Both Ben and Amy had a loss that this song compliments. From an emotional impact, I will view it more of a song about the loss of her sister, ; has a greater impact to me. The children playing in the square also seems to support that considering that I hear the fountain square was in an area bombed during a war ( WWII?) and many children lost their lives. Along with 'wiping away your tears" and " chasing away your fears" --just seems to support the loss of a child more so.
When she is in the fountain she’s in Plaza de San Felipe Neri in Barcelona. In 1938 during the Civil War, a bomb exploded there and killed 42 people including lots of children, kindergarten children of the nursery that was near there. That’s why her singing there surrounded by kids is even more heartbreaking than the song itself.
And actually in the music vid she’s the Ghost that the guy is reminiscing about (so it’s fitting the children ghosts are there with her) this is why she is never shown touching the ground in the vid.
This song was mostly written by ex-cofounder Ben Moody (guy on the piano), and Amy (singer) wrote the bridge. The song was mostly his and about his grandfather. Some people speculate it’s about Amy’s sister, who she lost when she was around 6 years old, but it’s not. ‘Hello’ and ‘Like You’ are about Amy’s sister.
People have been spreading so much misinformation about this song for so long - it just genuinely made me happy that someone passed on the actual facts😂 Thank you! (honestly & in the least condescending way possible!)
I guess since the song is about the loss of someone important in your life there could be some element of truth about her sister but I guess Amy can be the only one that can say whether her sisters death influenced her at all with this song or how she sung it etc . I watch these to judge if the reactions are real and for the music not for the comments.
This video was recorded in Barcelona. Very nice locations. The small square where is her in the fountain with children, behind her there is a small church full of bullets marks from Civil War (Spain)
For the "record": "The lyrics of the song refer to a spirit that haunts the memory of a grieving loved one. Similar to several other songs written by [Ben] Moody, the lyrics of the song are based on a short story he had previously written.[According to Lee, it was "Ben [Moody]'s song." Moody said that the song talks about "a spirit staying with you after its death and haunting you until you actually wish that the spirit were gone because it won't leave you alone." He also stated in the booklet of Fallen that he dedicated the song to his grandfather, Bill Holcomb. In "My Immortal", Lee expresses her feelings through the line, "Though you're still with me / I've been alone all along.A writer for IGN said that "'My Immortal' is a song of pain and despair caused by the loss of a family member or very close friend and how it drove her [Lee] to the edge of insanity." I was 21 when this song came out and GOING THROUGH IT! and I have heard it thousands of times and I still get goosebumps all throughout the song. It's one that you never stop appreciating, but it is still incredible to hear it through fresh ears vicariously. Thanks for the reaction!
Omg I’m so glad you did this reaction, I absolutely love Evanescence, I listend to their music all my childhood… please do “Going under”, it’s another really great song from them
Evanescence album Fallen should be a display in Audio Museum. It's not just another album. It's an art. It takes you to the depth of your emotions and takes you to a Gothic world with blue cyan shade with dark clouds and sculptural buildings and Haunted lonely roads.... The idea of Rock with Epic strings and dubbed or lush piano that has no texture or technically High frequency... is mind blowing.
Amy Lee is one of the greatest vocalist in history. Please do more reactions. You can do one every week and we will love it. They released a new album in March of this year.
Just found your channel, great stuff! I've always loved this song. Some songs are catchy, some songs pick you up, and some songs change you forever - My Immortal is the latter.
The most precious part of the song for me is the end, where if you're quiet and listen, you can still hear the little. . . keyboard (?) noise in the back. I keep listening as it fades, becoming evanescent, I suppose. We lost a son, and I'll close my eyes and try to pull up his voice, his laugh, and it's much the same. In the end, it's not remembering someone that is upsetting. . . it's the fear of some day not remembering their smile, their footsteps, and the smell of their hair on your hands after you tousled it. Thank you so much for finding this one and for such a thoughtful video,
You’re spot on as always. Amy Lee’s voice is ominous in the best possible way, if that even makes sense. I’m so happy you loved it. I was able to see this live, with Amy playing the piano and singing with a full orchestra behind her and it was one of the most memorable moments of my entire life! They’ve got some phenomenal newer stuff that you’d absolutely love, I’m just easing you in here, lol, that’s why I suggested this one first. I’ll talk to you more about it when I message you. Thanks for doing it💫
I thought I was seeing things when this popped up hahaha... I was 21 when this was released in 2003. I feel so old! 😭 Still such a great song though! Goosebumps
great composition. it does a brilliant job of setting the tone and grabs you in real quick with that melody and the lyrics. and that ending, when the distortion kicks in, really gives that catharsis from the sad, sombre, and angry tone that's been set
This has been my favourite song since I first heard it when I was 11 years old. The raw power and emotion just speaks to whatever pain is inside you and let’s you really feel it. So good.
Your reaction videos are so good, especially this one! The very real emotion you were feeling listening to this amazing band and song was very touching and it was so obvious you were really hearing this with fresh ears. I appreciate so much your very honest and heartfelt reaction. I also totally agree that Amy Lee's voice is phenomenal--Evananesce is a great band! Thank you very much for this reaction.
This song put me in ALL my feels as a young adolescent when I absolutely could not relate to this depth of emotion and experience 😂 So hauntingly beautiful and powerful to this day 🖤
This is the band version, there's another version that's even more haunting, because there's no band. I love them both, this one is very powerful, like a huge struggle between pain, sadness and anger, the other is pure sorrow, but both of them make me feel some sort of peace and release at the end. I met Evanescence because this song and Bring me to Life were featured in 2003's Daredevil.
I heard "Bring Me To Life" on a Christian station as well. I am shocked that Amy's statement that they were not a Christian band and that caused the station to take it off the air. In any event, it is good to hear a Christian's take on this song. My feelings exactly
This song is almost 20 years old now and came out when I was in my early 20's. It's a song that defiantly hits harder today. Back then, to me it was just a great song by an awesome singer, now it's a powerful emotional song. I can now relate to the lyrics, but not just towards a specific loss or relationship with someone, but towards my memories, my moments, and my mind. The older we get, the more the memories hurt, not just the sad and/or bad ones, like losing a loved ones, as I have lost both my parents over the last twelve years, but the good ones also, like having a wonderful childhood, first getting marriage, your children's births and them being young, these memories of life, moments of time, will never be as great as it once was, as certain moments that will never be experienced again like they were when we lived them. My memories, both happy and sad, are slowly killing me as I can't let go and depend on them so much.
So many incredible songs from Evanescence! Hello, Imaginary, Missing, Last Breath, Field of Innocence, Lithium... Too many to name them all, best to just go through ALL their songs 😊
Fantastic reaction. It's just a heartbreakingly beautiful song sung by a truly special lady. Accompanied by some emotionally engaging music. Just stunning.
Another great reaction! I had to deal with a lot of grief last year and I can relate so well to the lyrics, this song usually always makes me cry. It is a very emotional and powerful song I think.
Thank you for this reaction. Never thought I'd see a first watch to this one from anyone I really respect and like again since it's so old. You said it very well, and I had same exact thoughts back when it came. 🤗
There was a time I was obsessed with reactions to this song/video. I must have watched all of them on youtube. I'm way pass that time. This reaction just popped up on my suggested videos after having watched your reaction to Zombie early on. This was probably the best reaction to this video I have watched so far. Congratulations on the great content. I hope the algorithm doesn't flood my feed with My Immortal again. I have work to do...
I listened to this song while watching the widow of a Marine Hero laying at his coffin the night before his service. WOW, talk about tears rolling and feeling the depth of this song in all it's meaning. Such a great video and truly displaying what it could mean for someone. I have never cried so much.
I was listening to your comments and a student of mine (I’m a psychologist) said almost the same as you. I gave him an A+ because the important thing I wanted them to understand is that tragedy and loss doesn’t necessarily mean death. So, A+ for you too 🙂
I bought the album right away after first hearing Bring Me To Life and when I found this song, I fell in love with this. I never expected that they would make a video of My Immortal. then when they finally released it, I was actually quite surprised when the whole band came out because in the album, this song is just piano.
I believe she's the one who's passed and he is the one who's grieving.....the song is her knowing and expressing his feelings. My interpretation. That was actually a GREAT reaction. Thank you.
I agree. She never touches the ground, and instead lingers on the roof, in a tree, or on a pedestal, car, fountain. Also, the kids at play don’t notice her walking around on the fountain. Her death might have been by suicide as she has bandages around her wrist.
I lost my grandma early December last year and I can relate so much to “Your face it haunts, my once pleasant dreams” because I can’t stop dreaming about her and it’s infuriating and so frustrating.. this song is just so beautiful and heartbreaking..
Thanks for your reaction video. You can see that you suffer with the song. In "My Immortal" everything is still painful for love. Take a look at "Call me when you're sober". There are no phrases but the text is absolutely straight to the point. Keep up the good work, look forward to more videos from you!
I lost my husband in January 2023 & he haunts my dreams - I adore seeing him & talking to him in my dreams, but then I have to wake up without him, & yes it does feel like I'm losing my mind sometimes ... his memory & the love we shared does light my dreams, but reality without him is devastating 💔
I also fell in love with this group the first time I heard them and ‘Bring Me To Life’ back around 2002, along with ‘My Immortal’ just sensational and amazing. The whole album is filled with the best songs filling this album I’ve not heard since the greatest bands of the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s! Just awesome as I listened to Amy Lee storm past Stevie Nicks as the newest greatest rock female vocalist taking the baton to another generation of great female rock singers. I will always love that album as one of the greatest rock albums in rock history!
I love this song with all my heart. It always going to be in my top 5 favorites songs of all time. Such an amazing melody and Amy Lee voice is unbelievable. ❤
Amy has an incredible ability to express so so much pain, sadness, and all emotions so well. That's so sad, but its thariputic especially for people who hear and connect with Evanescence lyrics. There is just something about her voice that I have never found in another artist. And I love how you describe this song. Could you react to Better Without You by Evanescence? It came out during covid.
The version of this on the Fallen album this came from doesn't have the rock part at the end, the final chorus has the piano and violin playing the parts which are replaced by the guitars in the single version
35 years ago today three of my children died in a car crash. I understand exactly. This was one of the songs which helped me through the years which followed.
I just subscribed because of your sincerity of this reaction to this song.... Amy Lee is definitely one of a kind...I believe she could sing the phone book and we would cry....
I just now thought maybe she is singing this about a child. She would wipe away his tears, fight all of his fears….held his hand through all of these years. I never thought of it before
You're spot on. You must be a very sensitive guy. I'm 62 next month, and this is still the most beautiful ballads ever. And I've heard a few in my life.
If you notice her feet never touch the ground, she has died and he is in his funeral clothes although she’s singing it I think it’s from his point of view he’s looking up for her , and she’s unable to get to him as she’s passed over
We played this song at my mums funeral. Growing up I was the "Alt-Kid" in the family and showed my mum this song and she loved it. she used to listen to it all the time and when she knew she was dying she asked for this song to be played so we did and new everytime I hear it I think of her.
This is a core memory song for me. Back in high school I was taking a vocal course, a number of us got together and sang this song at a talent show, we watched as numerous students and staff cried by the end of it
I loved that song from the moment I heard it from the movie Daredevil, which was the first movie I went to see in the theatre with my husband when we were dating. She has a beautiful voice and there's so much emotion in this song. It however never made me feel pain as much as it did today, and I guess I shouldn't have watched this video today, but it hit me hard because 4 years ago today was the last time I saw my mom alive, she had a stroke and went into a coma, the next day she was declared brain dead, and the one after that (December 15) she was taken off life support (because I wanted to be by her side and I could not go right then). I went through all of those emotions I've felt in the past 4 years, during this video. It hurt, but I somehow needed that. And once again, I agree with what you said.
Great reaction! It’s so cool to see how people keep reacting to Evanescence nowadays. Just wish you could react to their newer stuff. They released an album last year and it’s pretty cool to see their growth as a band. You should check out its intro, Artifact + Broken Pieces Shine. They are two songs that go together and it’s a really strong comeback after many years without releasing music

The pure piano/vocals version of this song is, imo, far superior, far more emotional.
Amy Lee’s Voice is Hauntingly Angelic
This song always gets me. Thank you for doing this!
I believe she's the one who's passed and he is the one who's grieving.....the song is her knowing and expressing his feelings. My interpretation. That was actually a GREAT reaction. Thank you.
Spot on. 👍
I agree. She never touches the ground, and instead lingers on the roof, in a tree, or on a pedestal, car, fountain. Also, the kids at play don’t notice her walking around on the fountain. Her death might have been by suicide as she has bandages around her wrist.
We saw her last November here in Texas, and it was one of the best concerts I have ever seen. Her voice is amazing.
You do not have to be a Christian or of any faith to appreciate this. Yes, her voice is angelic... human but on another level.
One of her best songs and it never gets old for me. I also like Hello and definitely October. So beautiful..I hope you can listen to them too..💞
The live version is awesome too!!
Amy Lee is amazing.... her voice is just.... whew. Love this song! Love Evanescence.
Eyyy, similar childhood :D
I lost my grandma early December last year and I can relate so much to “Your face it haunts, my once pleasant dreams” because I can’t stop dreaming about her and it’s infuriating and so frustrating.. this song is just so beautiful and heartbreaking..
Thanks for your reaction video. You can see that you suffer with the song.
In "My Immortal" everything is still painful for love. Take a look at "Call me when you're sober". There are no phrases but the text is absolutely straight to the point.
Keep up the good work, look forward to more videos from you!
I lost my husband in January 2023 & he haunts my dreams - I adore seeing him & talking to him in my dreams, but then I have to wake up without him, & yes it does feel like I'm losing my mind sometimes ... his memory & the love we shared does light my dreams, but reality without him is devastating 💔
i just found this song it has so much emotion to it my friend played this on the piano i had the tone but no song to the tone but i found it!
She just has a voice like...even if it was in another language & I didn't know what she was saying, Id still cry. So beautiful 😢
This is my cry song. This song hits me so freaking hard and the melody is just… woah
Great reaction! I would love to see you react to some more of their music, this band is just so awesome
This song gives me chills every time I listen to it
Amy has an incredible ability to express so so much pain, sadness, and all emotions so well. That's so sad, but its thariputic especially for people who hear and connect with Evanescence lyrics. There is just something about her voice that I have never found in another artist. And I love how you describe this song. Could you react to Better Without You by Evanescence? It came out during covid.
Over here just making your way through my middle school playlist and I’m LIVING for it
This is by far the best reaction Video of this song ❤
The version of this on the Fallen album this came from doesn't have the rock part at the end, the final chorus has the piano and violin playing the parts which are replaced by the guitars in the single version
This is my all time fav, Amy's voice, the words, the feeling, the emotion. Sometimes too much.
35 years ago today three of my children died in a car crash.
I understand exactly. This was one of the songs which helped me through the years which followed.
Such an awesome song. 👍😊👏
Love the reaction, also react to ‘Everybody’s Fool by Evanescence’ it’s another good song by them
I just subscribed because of your sincerity of this reaction to this song....
I know what you are feeling man when she opens up with her beautiful vocals..
I've always loved Evanescence... and Amy Lee has a gorgeous voice
Melhor reação que assisti, abraços from Brazil.
That power bridge just before the band kick in gives me full body chills every time.
