Very nice Bike. But i cant understand the idea of downgrading the motor, without doing any with the hardware. So it´s the same sice and weight, but brings less power. The Idea of Rotwild is way better in my opinion. Sizing down the motor only in one of the two settings. So you have full power in one setting, if you only want to do a short ride and still have an light emtb
Love you guys. This looks nice. If I had a choice of one bike though, especially at these prices, it would be a full on Bosch. Not going to buy a $8000 bike and be limited by it. I can always run in eco, tour mode when running with my acoustical friends and ride 3,000ft and 50 miles with my EMTB friends.
Totally a valid point! We wonder how many converted ebikes will "go back" to a lower powered bike, or if this could be the style of eMTB that gets people to convert. Time will tell...

What would you pick between the Rise and the regular Turbo Levo for a regular daily bike? I am currently riding a Levo and the Rise looks very intriguing. I ride in eco mode and rarely if ever use trail mode. 98 percent of my rides are completely in eco. I am into long epic narly trail rides with tons of climbing ( 2000 + meters) and the Levo certainly covers my bases but the weight is an issue and if there is a light weight bike with better trail feel and easier to lug around with range, I am interested. How would you compare the ride and is this an epic bike? My normal daily rides are in the 38km 1000m climb range. I weigh 165 lbs.BTW your reviews are by far the best in the business. I feel like you guys come at it with the eye of an avid North American rider and your approach to your reviews reflect it. We can all pick out the rider that reflects our riding style and pay attention to their likes and dislikes. Keep it up.
You mean a Levo SL and a Rise? I have a levo, they are not comparable really. It's like anything, you sacrifice one thing to gain another. You get a playful light bike that can be used without the motor, with less power (it's about half of the power as your levo) but the bike is lighter so it doesn't have as much weight to pull. Vs a boat with lots of power/assist at the cost of maneuverability, stopping power, and weight. Ideally (if cost was not a thing, but it always is) you would use the bigger bike for long rides, steep climbing, adventurous single track style terrain or commuting and use the SL when you want to ride aggressively and throw the bike around, trail centers, single track, stuff like that. It's a Trophy Truck vs Rally Car.
I have a carbon rise. My wife has a turbo levo. I would say eco on the levo is close to trail mode on the rise. If you were to ride trail mode on the rise you would be hard pressed to do 2000 meters. I regularly ride 8 or 900 meters, and can go up to about 1500, but that's about it unless you want to live in eco, which will be a lot more work than on the levo. I have the range extender, and can easily do 2000 meters with it on the bike, but that adds about 2 1/2 lbs. The bike weighs 42lbs fully decked out the way I have it now with heavier tires, bigger rotors, enduro pedals, and a bottle cage.

Good to hear you are still running an Orbea Rise . I get my Rise next month but won’t be the high end spec that you are running but scope to upgrade the M20 . Seems like a pretty weird concept to me that you de tune a motor like that. I think they should just sell different battery sizes which is all that is different between this and any other e bike as far at I can see.
some of the other reviews around the web commented that the detuning allowed Orbea to spec components that are not "rated for ebike", which may have lowered the weight further? And that Orbea worked with Shimano to get a tune that felt more natural mtb rather than emtb feels.
Excellent video as usual. I wonder if you guys could help a a bit. I'm buying my first EMTB this year BUT I'm very undecided between Levo SL v.s. Orbea Rise. @@Chuckolicious Hey Chase, we have not put an S-Works SL on the scale, but we did see the weight of the Orbea. So, comparing my Team Model to an S-Works model wouldn't really be apples to apples like Eric was pointing out. From what we understand the top tier LTD and S-Works bikes will likely be very close based on tire selection, amount of sealant, pedals used etc... Pretty negligible in all honesty and the extra range and power of the Orbea would probably be a major deciding factor... BUT, we still want to get the Rise on some proper MTB trails back home to compare more than just the motor/power output as there's a lot more to a kick ass ebike than power! Hope that helps...
Bike weights are never quite what they claim, since they come without pedals, and usually need some superlight parts changed out for real world riding. I have an M10 carbon with the 36 150 fork, which I would recommend if you want to ride rough trails hard, and bigger rotors and tires, and of course some enduro pedals, and it weighs 42 lbs
Rode more like a mountian bike than an ebike.. Thats not a selling point. Ebikes have way more grip, way more control in the air jumping and are so much better for those two reasons alone. But if your in denial and have to tell the haters it doesn't have much power and you only ride in eco because you feel like you are cheating so be it, but I think they are the ones losing out not ebikers and faster is better imo!
Disagree with some points there Troy. As far as our denial, we are on the All Boost All the Time program, so we're not shy about being ebike lovers! That being said, it can be a major selling point as there's more to a good performing ride than traction/grip. And control in the air is only good if you're in the air properly. If you've gone off a large drop or jump and had the front end drop on a 50lb ebike, compared to a 28lb bike you'll realize sometimes weight isn't your friend. Plus if you exit a corner and are off line or exiting wide headed directly at a rock, or downed tree, yanking a 50lb bike vs a 28lb bike back onto line is not the same. Snappy and quick changes in direction on tight twisty trails, also not the same. Playful maneuvers like nose bonks, manuals, etc are not as easy on bikes that weight twice as much and some riders actually value playfulness over traction. So, while it may not be a selling point for you, there are definitely riders who will buy this bike exclusively because it does ride lighter and more like a mountain bike, which is why we offered them that insight. We try to think of as many types of riders and terrain as possible. Thanks for writing in.
Don't agree - it's exactly a selling point for me. On techy trails I hate 50 lb ebikes, up or down. The point for me is a bike that gets me to the top faster so I can spend more time having fun mountain biking! And, a pleasant surprise is tech climbing is fun on these lighter ebikes. You actually don't want the full power in those cases since you spin out easily.
That is an entire topic in and of itself! With hundreds of bikes under our belts, we'd literally have to break that answer down into niche, travel groupings, application etc... The more we've ridden, the more we realize how much you can tell the difference between nuances in different bikes and categories. Are we talking "The best bike" for a one bike do it all application? OR the Best DH bike, the Best trail bike, the best XC race bike, the best big mountain eMTB, the best lightweight eMTB. haha. See, we're already spinning down the drain!
@@TheLoamWolf Aren't we blessed to have so many amazing bikes. And lucky to have folks like you, splitting the hairs to help us consumers find "The Best Bike" for our specific ride conditions. Your videos have aided in my decisions, where proper local demos were unavailable. It's the small things that matter so thanks for providing solid, honest and detailed bike reviews. It's also great that you don't shy away from pointing out the drawbacks because then we can decide whether that matters on our local trails or not!
@@daveleech5971 Indeed we are Dave! It's crazy sometimes we get so focused on these little nuances and in the end, we're just blessed to even have the ability to be able to ride bikes for fun!
51T cassette on an ebike? What in the actual fuck. Are all Ebikes marketed towards paraplegics? Its like they purposely put the heaviest components on it because there are batteries involved. In 2010 I thought 11-36T 10 speed on a non electric 32lb bike was too much range.
My Rise M LTD was 36.5 pounds stock with my pedals on it. Course I changed the tires, brakes, saddle, and a couple things to make it more worthy but it’s still only about 38 or so. XTR 2 pot brakes are a joke and that saddle was a board (but carbon!). You can add 36 fork, dpx2 shock, better tires and still be around 40 pounds.
@@brianwilliams2907 Hey Brian, I'm about to pull the trigger on an M10 and was wondering if you have had any issues with yours or if everything has been awesome so far.
@@brakesforsnakes757 It's been awesome so far. Really fun and "mountain bike like". The only problem I've had was the non-drive side crank arm coming off the second ride. The preload cap came off and the pinch bolt came loose. Apparently this is a known issue with e-thirteen cranks so you have to be careful to loctite the cap and torque it more than it says to. So far that's been a good fix.
Detuning for less torque? Sounds like a step backwards. It's like the cereal box contains less product and they charge you more because they lightend it up! No thanks Shimano/Orbea.
We're guessing that you're already a converted eBiker? We also had to step back and evaluate this bike as we're on the "All Boost All the Time" program, so we questioned where/why we'd want a bike with less power when we've already accepted the heavier weight for more speed, more power and more range. It was why the Turbo Levo SL was a "neither" bike for us. However, this bike definitely has more power than the SL, making it a talking point for sure. It's also lighter and rides more like a regular bike. Are we sold on eBike Light? Not sure yet... But we look forward to bringing one out on our home test tracks with full-powered ebikes to see how it compares, if we find ourselves leaving it in the garage for the bigger bikes on steep climb days, or if the DH performance has us dealing with the slightly slower climb times and less assist. It's certainly an interesting way that Shimano's EP8 has almost taken a step back, and made the ride more natural, we're curios to see how the public (and we) respond after having accepted the amount of Boost and assist we have...
Orbea has a huge winner with this bike. The right design without crazy weight. I'd say it makes sense to aim for the highest end model, despite the price. The weight is important.

12:31.... so what is the best bike you've ever ridden?
It's crazy sometimes we get so focused on these little nuances and in the end, we're just blessed to even have the ability to be able to ride bikes for fun!
noice
51T cassette on an ebike? What in the actual fuck. Are all Ebikes marketed towards paraplegics? Its like they purposely put the heaviest components on it because there are batteries involved. In 2010 I thought 11-36T 10 speed on a non electric 32lb bike was too much range.
No thanks on the battery change procedure and no display.
If you put it on a scale and post a picture then i will believe that's just over 35 pounds....
You are pretty much describing my bike, and it's 42 lbs @@brianwilliams2907
Who cares about the bike everybody has one of them.
Dude tell us about the LandCruiser??
Me too, FJ45? It's was a beauty!

ok
