  • This was an interesting piece of wood for me. By accident I learned a lot about crotch wood and the shrinking process of wood. I turned it green and within 2 days the amount of shrinkage really surprised me. I waited while it dried and thought about how I wanted to finish this piece. As I began finishing this piece i watched how things were changing. What I had intended to do slowly went a little different than planned. I decided not to turn the bottom, but instead wanted to keep the natural shape of the bottom. And I also didn’t want to loose the natural texture of the shrinking crotch wood. So a little sanding on the bottom while leaving the top as natural as I could. Thanks for watching. I hope you like the video.

The "organic" shape really adds to the visual interest and the wood figure. Love it.

I think you made the right choice in sanding off the tenon and leaving the shape natural.

Darren that turned out just great you must have spent a lot of time hand sanding but well worth the effort.

Thank you Alan, it didn’t really take that long. It would have been a little faster on the lathe. Thanks for watching.
