    Pretty cool, well done Bernie. I enjoy that kind of thing. My dad and I used to re-grip our clubs back in the 80's and 90's. But I have not done one in a while. I like the way you wrap the tape instead of folding it around the shaft.

    Nice tutorial, Bernie.
    When you remove the old grip, do you have to do anything to "clean out" any glue residue or other nasty bits from the inside of the old grip?

    • @berniebarnesgolf
      @berniebarnesgolf  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah you should ideally. You can tell when you “pull it” if the tape is inside the grip or remaining on the shaft.

    That’s why I still use my 40 year old MacGregor irons Lester because you have the skill to keep them from falling apart. Unfortunately you don’t have the skills to keep me from falling apart 🙈

  • @harrymelad942
    @harrymelad942 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Nice one Bernie. Do you ever add glass beads to the epoxy mix? Also, I have seen some club fitters who spine the shafts before fitting. Is the ping shaft already spined correctly with the logo up? Cheers

    • @berniebarnesgolf
      @berniebarnesgolf  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Personally I don’t believe in it and don’t think it makes any difference to a club golfer. Maybe an elite fitter would argue it does. I normally mix sand or wood chipping to thicken the glue Harry as it’s cheaper.

    Well done Bernie good to see things like this as it does mean if you have a favourite club and you go somewhere where they say it’s not worth reshafting it’s cheaper to buy a new one then you can do it yourself

    • @berniebarnesgolf

    Re-gripping nowadays I can manage myself, 2 inch grip tape on a roll and grip solvent I find much easier but each to their own. Re-shafting I would have done years ago, but now it is far easier to pay a professional to do it, they are the experts after all. I did think about a compressed air gun a while ago for changing grips but it just isn't worth the outlay. Great video Lester.

    • @berniebarnesgolf
      @berniebarnesgolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah totally agree Robert! Just wanted to share a passion of mine with you all and show you how I do that particular repair. Would always recommend getting a PGA Pro to carry this particular repair.

    • @roberttaylor1801
      @roberttaylor1801 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@berniebarnesgolf doing grips is easy you don't even need a vice. I must admit re-shafting did look a bit daunting, bearing in mind if you don't glue it properly the head is going to come off, my luck would dictate right by a pond. 😂

  • @marksmith6331
    @marksmith6331 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I liked this one. I only re-grip my irons but I have a Ping Zing putter I've had trouble with putting on another original Ping grip. The opening of the grip is so small compared to the shaft opening. Do I force it or use more spirit? Worried about damaging the grip at the tip.

    • @marksmith6331
      @marksmith6331 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      oh and I don't have a vise.

    • @berniebarnesgolf
      @berniebarnesgolf  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Use lots of white spirit Mark! You can also use your finger to make the opening slightly bigger and then once it’s over the shaft it should be easy to apply!

    Hi Lester, thanks for this video. Is the what looks like plastic sleeve insert inside the hosel the same on all irons? (Best seen around 6:47) and this would presumably stay in place and not be removed? I have some old Titleist irons and the 8 and 7 iron heads have come off. Initially I thought it was part of the ferrule, but it seems to extend all the way down the hosel and has presumably broken off a little bit where the ferrule and sleeve have met just inside of the hosel. Kind regards, Nathan

    • @berniebarnesgolf
      @berniebarnesgolf  29 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Some ferrules will go inside the head Nathan and some shafts will be fitted with plastic sleeves to make the fit better. It’s hard to know without seeing it. Does the shaft fit tightly in the head or is it loose without the plastic sleeve!?

    • @nathanbroadhurst9615
      @nathanbroadhurst9615 29 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@berniebarnesgolf I haven't removed the plastic sleeves mate (if that's what they are) they are are still inside the hosels. Had a quick go, but it's late and it looks like it could be a right pain removing them and don't want to if there's no need. The shafts seem to fit rather snuggly when sticking them back into the hosel despite the sleeves having broken a little bit towards the tip of the hosel. (Probably where they sleeves have met the tapered ferrules inside the hosels and bonded together with exopy). Confusing I know!!
      I think I may try and trim the sleeves (if that's what they are) so they have enough clearance for some new tapered ferrules to be used inside the hosel and exopy them.

    Could do with adding sand to your mix, helps centralise the shaft in the hosel. There could also be potential swing weight issues now as the previous shaft could be tip/tungsten powder weighed in the shaft so after the reshaft could be playing to light.

    • @berniebarnesgolf
