      @@trembling3674 no. The history and geography lead it to sprawl and urban rambling. That’s one thing I noticed while living elsewhere in the US. But it also allows for this, the 7th largest city in the US, to still feel like small town.

    It's weird and satisfying in a good way when I see video reactions to our city and state. Born and raised in San Antonio and I don't think people understand how unique this city is. As a local, we rarely visit any of these places unless family and friends come into town. I worked at that courthouse for almost 20 years and saw the transformation of downtown and the river-walk to what it is today. The river-walk is one of the crown-jewels of Texas and many cities and states around the U.S. have tried to duplicate it and FAILED. Sure, Texas has issues just like many states, but our way of living is unique to us and we LOVE it and treasure it. Your journey and commentary here made me smile and I wish you nice people nothing but safe-travels and joy.

      San Antonio native here too! & yes we are so busy with daily life & for me for my Kids school schedule that we seldom go down town or other places unless family/friends visit from out of town! My kids love River center mall. Also San Angelo Tx attempted to recreate its own river walk along the Concho River & while it is pretty it doesn’t compare to San Antonio River walk 🙂

      The city mostly just has them on city buildings like the Chamber of Commerce and the International Center. While there may be more, it's definitely not London and it's more so 'safe- ish' due to more foot, bike and the occasional boat patrol than other parts of the city.

    As a resident of South Texas, your review of San Antonio, TX was most kind! San Antonio also has at least three great top notch Art Museums, The McNay, The Witte, and The San Antonio Art Museum. You are lucky you only encountered an armadillo..., because Texas has four poisonous snakes... they are Diamond Back Rattlesnake, Copperhead, Coral Snake and the Cottonmouth or Water Moccasin. The other real danger in stopping at a roadside park is FIRE ANTS, which gives a very painful sting and blister! Happy Trails and Stay Safe!

    • @genespell4340
      @genespell4340 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your chances of getting bitten by a dog are a thousand times greater than being bitten by a poisonous snake and that won't happen if you leave snakes alone. As far as being bitten by a corral snake, its fangs are so small that it would have to chew on your ear or the flesh between your thumb and pointer finger to inject venom. Snakes serve a vital purpose by eating rats.

    • @deb5710
      @deb5710 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@genespell4340 I live here in Texas, and true you need to leave snakes alone. My Father's Sister (both native Texans) was bitten by a Copperhead as a young child and nearly died, Copperheads are very aggressive. I gave our friend's from the UK that information as a safety precaution. As for Coral snakes... a man in San Antonio was bitten by a Coral in his backyard, and the snake wouldn't let go. By the time his wife got him to Emergency he had tunnel vision! His wife being a nurse called ahead to make sure the hospital had anti-venom for Coral snakes which most certainly saved his life, they are the most deadly snake in North America!

    Saw old pictures of San Antonio when it was just a dirt road city with cowboys and cattle streaming through the streets. My grandmother (1898-1982) even ran into Bonnie & Clyde coming out of the S. H. Kress store (1896-1981). She said they were very polite! Clyde held the door open for her and said..."you first maam." She told stories of feeding depression era homeless stew and soup out of a giant black belly-pot when they jumped the train near her place looking for food. A fantastic cook, she gave them free fresh home-cooking ...which my grandpa, the hunter/provider of scarce food, wasn't to thrilled about... but she did it anyway. She even had a man from the north who jumped off and refused eat once he saw her skin color, saying, "I don't take nothing from a n...er." A couple of months later he came back around, skin and bones, and apologized for his earlier, unfriendly behavior. He tore that food up (her words) with the rest of the train jumpers. My grandmother, a mid-wife, chef, and healer was full of such stories. Let me tell you about the time.... oops, you'll have to read the book.

    So San Antonio charmed you both? My beautiful city tends to do that! 🤩 The Texas history teacher in me feels compelled to correct one statement however…the Battle of the Alamo lasted thirteen days keeping Santa Anna and the Mexican Army busy while Stephen F. Austin and others were writing and signing the Texas Declaration of Independence elsewhere. The battle that lasted only 20 minutes was the Battle of San Jacinto in April 1836 which ended the Texas Revolution and forced the surrender and retreat of the Mexican Army. A lot of folks already said it, but thank you for visiting S.A. and the nice things you said.
    Just going off the trunk, the trees are crepe myrtles. They put out bunches of flowers starting in late spring and all summer. They come in colors spanning white, red, pink, and purple.
    Also, be careful with armadillos, they carry leprosy.

    Hello! Jose Antonio Navarro is my great X 4 Uncle. His father who was my X 5 grandfather was even more impressive in his development in San Antonio.
    We live right on the riverwalk. I am glad you enjoyed your time here!!! Safe travels!

    I am born and raised in San Antonio Texas. I personally think we are very underrated because we do not have a big Media...like New York. I literally live less than 5 miles behind those BIG BOOTS 👢 Our neighborhood was once featured in Time Life magazine over 60 years ago because we are known for how wide our streets are. I'm glad 😊 you enjoyed your stay in San Antonio. There is truly so many things to do here...especially if you have children. I like to describe our city as a larger city with a small town of friendliness. Safe travels to you folks 🌹

    Remember the Alamo. I am so glad you went to the riverwalk and what a great place to eat Mexican food. It has been forever since I have been there. The armadillo is such a strange creature and part of the west Tx experience.

    What a wonderful video of San Antonio. Guess what, I have been there myself!! What a beautiful city. We stayed for 10 days. Walked the river, rode on the river barge and ate a restaurant overlooking the river. What wonderful memories that was, in 2015!!

    Yes, I think you two adapted quite well to Texas life. Loved the tour of the River Walk, it does remind me of Venice. Funny, I've been to Venice but never the San Antonio River Walk. Oh, and an armadillo, how cool! Hey, how long is Trudy? I just locked in on a 2023 Winnebago Solis Pocket, white and 18 ft(5.5 meters) long. I decided to go brand new since I just can't find a good used one or build on new van because that is taking forever to present itself(put order in, in Dec. 2021). My new little campervan will come in June and hopefully with good care it will last me 20+ years. Can hardly wait to hit the road, and maybe run into you two somewhere. Happy Travels!

    I am from San Antonio and I approve this TH-cam video! :-) I've traveled all over the world and, yes, San Antonio is truly beautiful and people here are very friendly and welcoming. So much to do here, folks. Lots of good eats! I recommend an early Spring visit, if you're coming in from Europe. The summers are incredibly hot. I had friends from Europe visit during the summer and the weather was a bit much for them (understandably so). 100 degree weather is not fun for even locals. Tread the Globe, I'm glad you enjoyed San Antonio!
