Thank you, Nancy. My mother had a huge hand in influencing my functionality around crafting and projects so she'll be pleased to know it "stuck". And yes, I'm grateful to have some lovely photos of my family. So many treasured ones! 🥰
Thanks so much, Kay! I actually finished the stitching for the purse yesterday. So if I don't lose myself in decisions about the flip side, I hope to have it sewn up today. Fingers crossed!!!
Hi Ryan! The picture of your grandma and her friends is precious. 😊 Congrats on your one year flossiversary! I enjoy your videos very much, thank you for making them. Happy stitching! -Leah Noel
I'm so happy you're enjoying them, Leah! It makes this whole experience so great. And yes, I could just imagine how striking they appeared together in their coordinated ensembles. Very sweet.
Congratulations on your flossaversary Ryan. Have watched since your guest appearance with Ellen. Can't believe it's been a year. Love your work as always. Your bags look great. Here's to lots more stitching. Best wishes from 🇮🇪
Thanks so much, Anne Marie! I'm really glad you've been enjoying the projects I've shared. And yeah, I was tickled enough with the bags to sew up a few more. After all, that means one can have more WIPs, right? 😉
Happy FlossTubeiversary! Love your needle book from the Holiday Countdown band sampler. And now I have to sew another project bag, after I watch the tutorial from Rosie's Art Studio. Great projects, lovely stitching. Thanks for sharing.
You stole my heart the first time I saw you with Ellen. I was thrilled when you started your FlossTube. Congratulations on one year of sharing your enormous talent and creativity. Happy stitching. 1:00:28
I am a huge believer in the Law of Attraction, not for material gain, but from the perspective that we attract what we put out in the world. This human experience is about celebrating the common thread that unites us all and tethers us to Spirit. We are on this minuscule marble for about a nanosecond in time, and our sole, SOUL purpose is to love one another and care for this planet. 💗🙏
That's such a wonderful way to approach life, Barbara. We are surrounded by so much negativity and it's so easy to get distracted by it. Then we tend to miss all of the amazing things. Thank you for your positive energy!
Ryan😊❤😊 congrats on your 1 year flossiversary! Omg! Storing linen- aka pile in a drawer- has been one of my stash org problems! Love the box idea for folding! And Marie Kondo 🙌🙌🙌 😊 happy stitching! Lisa
Congratulations my joy on a year of flossing on TH-cam. I really enjoyed your wips and finishes and hopes and dreams. Well done Mrs Ryan’s Mam for bumping! I loved everything you showed us today. I particularly liked the variety of projects you are working on. I bought a sashiko kit from purl in nyc. Once I’ve finished a couple of wips (I have 127) I’m going to start the kit. Sending you much love and congratulations 🎉❤🎉
Awwww thank you so much! Sorry I didn't reply to this sooner. And yes, variety is the spice of life! I've been to Purl once. Bought some of the best sock yarn I've ever worked with there. Better FO at least a couple of those WIP's so you can get hopping on that sashiko. I must admit I find it rather addictive and you might be hard pressed to put it down once you've started!
Many congratulations on your Flossaversary - how lucky we are to have you!! ❤ Love your projects, finishes, the way you describe your process and the jokes sprinkled throughout. Can’t wait to meet you at SN! Hugs, M x
Thank you so much, Marie! I'm so happy I'm able to give back to the Flosstube community after enjoying yours and others informative and entertaining channels. It's nice to be in good company. 😉 And yes, see you in just over a month!!!
Ryan, congratulations on your Flossaversary! I remember when you guested on Ellen’s Flosstube and she was trying to get you to start your own channel. It’s a small world - found you through Ellen, found Ellen through Evertote, found Evertote and Roxy Floss Co. through Modern Folk Embroidery. Love watching you and your projects!
Thank you, Julia! It's a small world indeed. I've known Ellen for a lifetime and when I started stitching, Caroline at Evertote was the first Flosstuber I ever watched. And to your point, there followed Kerri at Roxy, Jacob at Evertote, and so on and so on. It's such a great community and it's wonderful to be a part of it.
Another great video Ryan. So many great projects and fun creative finishes. Can’t wait to see the “thimble purse” completed. What a great smalls exchange idea! Sadly, I’ll be missing out on Stitch North this year but hopefully I’ll be able to make it next year. Have a great time! I really like your Ink Circles round Robin idea. I might have to talk to some of my stitchy friends and see if they’d be interested in something like that. I was even thinking it would be cool to do Ellen’s Friendship Sampler as a round Robin with a group of friends. How fun if we split it into sections and passed it around. Everyone could complete their section, add their initials and then stitch themselves below the house with their pet or other signature item! How fun to get that back at the end and discover how everyone interpreted themselves. Thanks for all of the ideas and inspiration. Take care. Kris 😊
Well hello, Kris! Let me say that thimble purse finish wasn't a walk in the park. I might need to rethink it as a gift unless my friends can convince me that it's fine to give away. And yes! I love that idea of a round robin with the Friendship sampler! So clever. I think Caroline is hosting a SAL shortly, but I think your idea is perfect. Can't wait to see how that goes. And sorry to hear you'll be sitting out on the upcoming retreat. I have a feeling that there will be many more in the future, so it'll happen at some point. Be well and happy stitching!
Thanks for sharing the picture of your Grandma and Aunts. I really like how ladies dressed back then and I love love love the gloves. Yes, I think those fabrics will go well with the trombone and I bet I know who the gift is for. 😄 Congrats on your first project bags. They look great. I just ordered some vinyl and zippers and fusible interfacing a few days ago as I too have decided to take the dive and attempt a bag. Great fabric choice for your Ink Circles project. Very bold. I tried Sashiko for the first time when I took a class at the Twist Festival. I'm afraid I never finished the project, which is a canvas tote bag, but maybe I'll pick it up again. We had no pattern to follow so we made it up as we went by looking on line for different stitches. My sister, many years ago, gave me the cd of The Secret. I listened to it all along the 401 from Michigan to Québec. I took what I wanted (needed) and left the rest but what I took really helped.
Oh Alison, that's great about the dive! Can't wait to hear how your project bag goes. I relied on an assortment of tutorials and they all had a nugget or two of wisdom. My biggest learning was that you only have one go at sewing through the vinyl since the holes are there for good. And I admit I'm very curious to know who think is going to get the trombone. But thanks for keeping mum in the meantime. 😁
Congratulations on your 1-yr Flossaversary! Loved seeing all of your wips and finished projects. I also loved seeing your vinyl project bags. They look amazing! You are so talented! Wish I could sew as good as you. Some day, I will tackle stitching my first project bag. I have the fabric cut out, but have not attempted stitching it together. I think that sewing the zipper part is what is scaring me from trying. Anyhoo, I look forward to seeing your next flosstube.
Thanks, Cathy! Regarding sewing, know that it was part of my post-secondary education when studying fashion design. That definitely helps in projects like these. But I'll also let you in on a secret that helped me tremendously when installing zippers...Dritz 1/4" Wash Away Wonder Tape. It was a game changer for me. There's some great tutorials on TH-cam that have some excellent advice and direction. Let me know if you need help finding one. Best of luck!
I'm a new viewer and subscriber to your flosstube, and I enjoyed it very much. I had seen you on Ellen's channel a while ago and you two are so fun together! Congratulations on your flosstube anniversary!
Welcome, Diane, and thank you! Ellen is definitely a hoot and it's hard not to have a fun time when she's involved. I hope we have a chance to make another video together soon. 🥰
Congrats on year one, Ryan! 🎉. Love your project bag with the pleated bottom. Can you do a video about all your needles one day? It looks like you have quite the collection!
Hey there, Ryan! Greetings from Dallas! Enjoyed seeing all your projects! Loved the mittens! I stitched the Garden of Zig last year when it came out for Market. It’s a great stitch. Very easy and enjoyable. I really like Tracy Horner’s designs! I’ll be interested in seeing how the Thimble Purse stitches up. How you attach the hardware will be very interesting! I’ve never done anything like that! I’ve got my small already stitched for Stitch North. I remember those no bake cheesecakes! Had them many times. I remember eating an entire one in one sitting when I was younger. It put me off of cheesecakes for about 20 years. Lol! I’m glad to say that I am back eating cheesecakes now. Lol! Looking forward to seeing you at Stitch North! It will be here before we know it. Am a little nervous as I won’t really know anyone but hoping I can overcome my shyness and meet lots of new people! Keep up the good work!!
Hey there, Michael from Dallas! Aren't Tracy's designs fantastic?! Can't wait to start in on the Zig chart. I'm also keen on seeing how the purse stitches up. haha. Should be interesting. Can't wait to meet you and see what you did for the smalls exchange. You'll get over your shyness in short order...guaranteed...much like you overcame your aversion to cheesecakes. 😉 I had a similar experience after spending a summer working at an ice cream parlour. Couldn't touch the stuff for at least a decade after.
Happy Flossaversity! The heart project FFO looks great. Also, nice floss storage. I am loving your videos. I'm going to go back and binge watch them ❤️
Hi Ryan! I am so glad I found this video. I have heard your channel mentioned by many Flosstubers I watched and I have to say that I have been missing out! Anyway, I will be watching from now on, and happy Flosstube-aversary!
Welcome aboard! It’s never to late to join. And I am humbled and honoured to be mentioned by my other stitchers. Have fun catching up, happy stitching, and see you in the next video!
Oh that's great! Has he been a good student? I'm so curious to know what kind of things he enjoys stitching. TH-cam also has some younger male Flosstubers if he's looking for some inspiration. Let me know if you need some names. Cheers!
@@RyRyMcGuy Right now he is stitching his schools logo (MTU Huskies) but he and I are going to do a mini SAL and do the mini art Starry Night next week while he is home from Tech. He is a good student. A slow one but he is a full time student in his last semester of his Chemical Engineering Degree (graduates the 29th of April). So he doesn't get to put a lot of stitches in. But he does a little at a time.
@@CristyK1NASCAR24 That's awesome! And I love those mini art projects. They're so sweet. I think sonovastitch does an entire series of them, but with gnomes. Very cute. And congrats to him on his degree!
Congrats on one year flosstubing Ryan, you are doing fabulously! I love your Frisian Band finish, think I'll try that too. And, I would do a friendship SAL with you!
Awww that's very sweet, Michele! Yay for friendship samplers! Ellen's designs are so sweet and I think this will be really fun to stitch and make it one's own.
Congratulations on one year! I enjoyed watching while stitching on The Colours of Water (#ryrymademedoit) - it is a beautiful pattern. I think I may need to do Air as well. All 'The Colours of' are beautiful. Love all your stitching and project bags. I use sashiko embroidery on thrifted skirts sometimes to make them look a little different - it looks fabulous in variegated perle cotton on black. Thank you for pointing out Maximum Cross Stitch. I love the swans design and There's Always Room as well as the new sampler. What an honour to be immortalised in cross stitch! 🥰
Well there's a hashtag I don't see every day, and I'm loving it! haha. And I agree...they're all lovely. Let's see if I can manage to get one done before I start adding the others to my shopping cart. I'm glad to hear you're getting work done on yours, though. And yay for Sashiko! I'm all about the functionality and it's a great craft for doing that. Ellen and I have known each other for a lifetime. So the least she could do is stitch me. 😅
Great job on your needlebook! Love the fabrics that you have picked out for the womp womp design and your idea of ants on the preying mantis. Thoroughly enjoy your videos and your many projects. Happy Anniversary!
Thank you! It was a fluke that the fabric matched the trombone, so how could I not use it?! And thanks for your vote on the ants! Now let's see what we end up with. 😊
I’m blown away! I just picked up Sashiko this week for the first time and I’m hooked. Congrats on one year and hopefully we can continue to join you on this journey for many years to come.
I so enjoyed watching like always. I agree I wouldn’t put the body in the praying mantis is mouth. Beautiful finishes and wips. It made me laugh you brought up bag making because after I’m done watching I planned on going to make a few bags today. Your bags turned out beautiful great job. Congratulations 1 year it’s been a wonderful journey watching you. Happy stitching
Awww thank you so much! I'm so grateful you've enjoyed them. I have been having fun exploring different project bag styles and techniques. Do you have a go-to design that you rely on? I'm always open to new ones.
Thank you! I can't tell you what a game-changer it's been for me. I used to dread rummaging through the under-bed bins to locate a suitable piece. Now it's an absolute delight!
Congrats on your flossaversary! YT recommended your first video to me last year and I'm so happy I wondered over here into flosstube. As usual I'm crocheting while watching :D Those butterflies are so pretty! I love the look of monochrome with slight variations in shade or sheen. Black butterflies always make me think of a beloved family member as they're a favorite of hers. Your sashiko project looks so cool! I have a friend who calls their cross stitch "The Stab" and every night they send me updates on "The Nightly Stab." I texted them about the translation of sashiko as soon as I heard it. XD
I'm happy that YT recommended me to you, too. All crafters welcome! ;) I am not sure if I've seen too many black butterflies. Definitely not growing up. It was primarily dragonflies and mosquitoes and crickets. But that's a sweet connection to have with your family member. And yes to little stabbings! haha. It's a very therapeutic way to direct some semi-hostile feelings. hehe. Take care and be well!
Happy Flossaversary. You always have such interesting projects on the go, and a good eye for colour. Love the colours you chose for the framed heart project. Your needlebook looks fantastic, as do your project bags. And your fingerless glove is so cute. I also like your choice in teas. English breaky is my favourite. But if you're making pumpkin loaf, you really need to spread the goodness around 😄 Take care, and happy stitching.
Thanks so much for the compliment! I find colour a challenge so I appreciate your feedback. And yay for English breaky! I really love any strong Assam tea. Builder's tea, I think some call it. For the pumpkin loaf, I used the recipe here and I didn't change a thing: www.apt2bbakingco.com/home/pumpkin-olive-oil-cake-with-maple-olive-oil-cake . It's super simple and very delicious!
@@RyRyMcGuy Thank you for the pumpkin loaf recipe. I was rather hoping that it would just magically appear at my door without me having to venture into the kitchen 😄 I haven't baked in a long while, but I will definitely keep in on hand, should the urge strike. Look forward to your next flosstube, and meanwhile, take care and happy stitching.
@@marleenoceanbreeze6510 a home-baked treat is even more delicious when someone else makes it. 😊 Honestly, though, it's a very straightforward and easy recipe. You can also pass it along to someone nearby and maybe they'll get the hint. hehe
I love your vinyl bellowed bottom bag. I don't knit, but I do a lot of hand embroidery work, quilting, crazy quilting and cross stitching and crocheting. Keep up the good work. Your glove is great. I use 18 gauge vinyl for my project bags. I make a lot of those and give away to all my stitchy friends.
Thanks! I am definitely a vinyl convert. I know some people have complained about ink transfer from charts onto vinyl, but I'm hoping I'm extra careful. I can also say it hasn't been easy finding vinyl around here these days. And I don't think it tolerates being folded and shipped very well. :(
I don't know where you live but, Joann Fabric sells vinyl and I get mine on a roll. Also if you have vinyl and it is creased or winkled, lie it flat and put a towel on top and use a hot iron with steam and the wrinkles will come out.
@@debraquilts8030 I'm in Canada and we don't have Joann's up here. The closest thing we have is Michaels but they often don't have. Thanks for the tip, though!
Congratulations on one year! Your needle book idea is intriguing (love it, GREAT idea)....has me thinking of options for 'outfitting' the inside to hold needles in their packets.
As a fairly new stitcher, I have found so much comfort and joy in watching your channel. Thank you for making it so accessible for all levels of stitchers!
It's absolutely my pleasure, Kelly! Thank you! When I started this channel, I wanted to make some simple and basic tutorials related to the craft. Maybe I'll have to revisit that idea. Until then, happy stitching!
Congrats on one year! I enjoy your tubes. The sashiko looks really interesting but I don’t need another hobby. I also did the praying mantis but alas, mine is feeding. I plan to purchase several of Ellen’s designs as I really like them.
I'm so glad to have found you. Over the last 6/8 months I have rediscovered cross stitch. Which has of course led me to floss tube and to your channel. It's so calming and relaxing to watch/listen to you talk while I am stitching.
That makes me so happy to hear! Thank you!!! I know many folks who have come back to stitching and they say how much the landscape has changed, with all of the flosstubers and designers. I've been finding it such a wonderful and supportive community and I'm happy to be able to keep you company!
@@RyRyMcGuy It truly is a wonderful community, I have no stitchy friends in person and being an introvert, using the internet/ flosstube, has been a little difficult for me to make connections, but I am trying to put myself out there a bit more. Thank you so much for the reply and the company.
I truly enjoyed your video tonight. So glad I found your floss tube. Might I suggest a small silicone basting brush. I bought two, one for the kitchen and the other to remove this pesky little fiber from the Aida or linen after I frog stitches out. I like it more than regular brushes because it maintains the integrity of the fabric. I gently brush both sides of the fabric. I admire your choices of color and fiber. I loved the chocolate colored linen. Yum, I remember the Jello brand cheesecake.
Thank you for the tip, Sharon! That's a great suggestion. Those fibers can certainly be an annoyance and I've learned the hard way that those sticky lint rollers are NOT the way to go. I'll definitely give the silicone brush a try. And yes! Jell-O No-Bake Classic Cheesecake Dessert Kit! You gave me enough info to Google it and it's still available! My birthday is just over 3 weeks away so I may just have to indulge. 🥰
Yay for Stitch North and I'm glad you found me! Are you going to the retreat this year? I did a video last year sharing my experience (it was my very first retreat!) and it may offer some insight into it. 😊
Great finishes Ryan, I love your framed heart and your needlebook is so beautiful. Thank you for showing your floss storage. The hangers for your DMC is such a resourseful solution. The project bags you made are so beautiful too. I love the three shades of black for your butterfly project and looking forward to seeing your progress on that. Thank you for another wonderful video and Happy one year flosstube anniversary!
Thanks so much, Lorraine! It's always great to hear from you and for your kind words of encouragement. Hope you're keeping well and let's hope I have some decent progress done for next time!
Happy flossaversary my Dear friend. Just loved all Your projects ,But your little needle book was fabulous You have so grown in this past year and you are so comfortable in what you do. So you know it was what was meant to be. God bless you my friend. Linda from Rhode Island
Thank you so much, Linda! I always appreciate your comments and support and it makes me happy that we all have these common threads that connect us. And yes, I'm pleased with the needle book. I'm often about the practical plus it's such a tactile treat to hold something with all of that stitching. Cheers to you!
Hi Ryan's mom!!! I am so happy you had Ryan all those years ago. The world is a better place because he was born! And Ryan: Happy Flosstube Anniversary dude. I can't wait to give you a BIG HUG next month.
Congrats on a whole year of fabulous flosstube videos! Thank you for sharing! I always enjoy seeing what you’re up to. I really liked your Sashiko project. I have done some in the past and found it very relaxing and satisfying as well. See you next time❤️
I think many crafters like to dabble and explore other crafts. It's definitely been a fun process. But I think like many of us will agree, we don't have enough time to do all the things we want! As long as we're having fun though, right? 😊
Congrats, Ryan on your anniversary!! I love that thimble purse. I'm going to have to hunt that up. I also didn't realize Garden of Zig used Cottage Garden floss. 😍 (This is why I took prolonged break from Flosstube! lol) Your tea closet resembles mine -- Irish, Scottish or English breakfast tea for the morning. It has to be Taylors with two pink packets and a splash of milk. Sad and lovely how regimented my tea drinking habit is -- it's a family gene thing. Anyhow, Early Grey for the afternoon or Taylors Yorkshire. Signed, Susan the Canadian who was stuck in the US during the pandemic
Well hello, tea twin! I do love a good strong Assam. I grew up with a pot of Red Rose tea brewing on the table as we had our dinner. It was such a staple for us. Do you get your Yorkshire here in Canada? I've seen the occasional box at my local grocery store but I read somewhere that it's actually different from what is available in the UK. So of course now I'm madly curious to know. And yes, Flosstube can be a rather enabling experience. I have been guilty watching it on my laptop while frantically searching for items as they're mentioned. It can be a problem. 😅
@@RyRyMcGuy Tea twin! For the Yorkshire, I "think" this box is from the states. They all say Made in the UK on them and are readily available up here. I wonder if it is different? Now, I'm curious. I've learned that "Made in somewhere" doesn't necessarily mean it's a direct import. Let me know if you want me to get you some, or I can look at my end of SE BC to see if they have some there and send it to you. I need some "staples" before Easter anyhow: KD, All Dressed chips, Kraft peanut butter, and my hot cross buns. None of which are available here. It's ghastly! 🤣Almost forgot with the tea, I learned to drink it from my godparents, who more or less raised me. I can't remember what kind but it was an afternoon ritual. Tea service on the table, a splash of milk and real sugar cubes! How I loved those sugar cubes. lol My mother was a coffee drinker but my family are tea drinkers. I was between tea kettles a little while ago and my cousin from London (Ont) came to visit. She was horrified (and I'm not being dramatic!) when I told her I didn't have one at the moment and to stick the cup of water in the microwave. 😬🤭 I am back to having a kettle - an electric one! Take care
@@sbwgigstitcher Well, I might be a little horrified too at the microwaved cup of water. hehe. I've certainly been known to use a pot on the stove in a pinch, though. And that's so kind of you to offer to pick up some tea for me! I think I should be okay, though. A bestie of mine lives in the UK and is always asking what he can bring back, so I'm giving him a grocery store list. 😁
Congratulations on your flossaversary! I just heard of sashiko recently and haven't really looked into it. Looking forward to seeing your progress and hearing your thoughts about it.
Thank you so much! And yes, have a peek into Sashiko. There should be plenty of videos around if you want to learn more. It's a wonderful craft with a rich history, and it's not a big investment if one wants to do a project or two. This one definitely won't be my last. :)
Congratulations on your one-year Flossaversary, Ryan! Love the needle book you made with the Frisian band sampler. What a nice way to admire your stitching. And your project bags with the vinyl are very cute. I received the awesome news that I got off the Stitch North wait list and I’m heading to the April weekend. I look forward to meeting you there. I’ll be the one looking like a deer in headlights.
Thanks so much! Yeah, I'm pleased with how the needle book turned out. I wasn't exactly sure what to do and it's always nerve-wracking cutting up one's stitching, right? And yay for Stitch North in April!!! Have you been to a retreat before? I was also a deer in headlights for the entire first day. Literally. A total fog. But everyone was so amazing! You'll quickly make lots of friends. And pack half of the projects you think you'll take. I'm sure many folks didn't work on more than two at the most. But everyone loved sharing their finished projects so pack up a few of your faves as well. 😊
Wow hasn't that year gone quickly! I remember watching your first one at Ellen's urging after she convinced you to start. After your guest appearance on hers was so great. I've watched every one with interest, surprise and joy. Thank you and please keep it up. I like seeing different projects and finishes from someone who came to this hobby from a different direction. I love sashiko but it too gets like a rabbit hole. Yes the supplies are basic but my goodness some of the resulting items are breathtaking. For another needlework style you could try the French Boutis. I'm just learning but it also starts with simple supplies and a basic stich that results in beautiful, useful objects.
Well thank you for being there with me from the beginning, Lisa! I'm so grateful, and I'm grateful for Ellen for kicking my butt into it. And best of luck with the French Boutis! I'm familiar with it, but only as a technique and have never tried it. I'll add it to the queue, though. 😊
Your needle book turned out marvelously - well done and so pretty!! Happy Flossiversary too!! Piece of My Heart looks amazing the way you finished it!! Wow, the Sashiko Sampler is really cool! I'm going to look into trying something like this. You are just so talented, and I loved seeing all your many crafts and projects. I'm looking forward to another year of videos from you!!!
Your kind words go right to my heart. Thank you, and thank you for watching! You should try to grab a Sashiko project. I love that it's still stitching but also completely different. Unfortunately, it means my hands have even less of a chance to rest now. hehe. Take care and be well!
This year flew by! I always enjoy watching your videos and seeing all the FFOs I'll never do on my own. When it comes to your Love Prey Eat finish, you can stitch another snack or beverage instead... like iced coffee or some chocolate. I love seeing your Sashiko WIP, I just got a couple of kits on my trip to Japan and can't wait to start one soon!
You went to Japan!?!? That's so exciting! I definitely have to go...hopefully sooner rather than later. And what a wonderful thing for a crafter to pick up as a memento of a visit. I hope you enjoy it as much as I've been. There was a wee learning curve as it's quite different from cross stitch, but you'll get the hang of it in no time. And yes, we can't have our little mantis going hungry. She'll find something else fun to chow down on. 😊
Lol... I saw your project bag, and I instantly recognized the fabric from Dollarama. I bought a few of those two Starwar prints and a couple of the Marvel superhero prints. I might just copy you and make a similar project bag.
Go for it! I hope I can see your efforts somehow. I tried to do some fussy-cutting with the stormtroopers with some marginal success. And that fabric was such a find! I keep panicking and catch myself thinking "Should I buy more? Am I crazy? Why hasn't everyone else bought it all up?" hahaha
Thank you! And the Sashiko really is a great packable, portable craft. I'll be sure to share it again once it's finished and the ink has been washed out. 😁
Thank you, Eryn! I was going to insert a little separate segment on folding but I think I'll make a little stand-alone video. It's simple but I love sharing what I know. And yay for all of the colours! It definitely adds some to the craft closet.
Love the needle book!! I am so going to stitch the Ink Circles pattern!! What would you think of a monochrome theme of all blues or purples for that?? Thank you for the inspiration! I love your videos! 💗
Thank you for the compliments! And I think a monochrome palette sounds lovely. Would you be using solid colours or hand-dyed ones that have various tones or gradients of the same colour? I've seen many of Tracy's designs done in monochrome and they all look gorgeous, so go for it
Hi Ryan - always so glad to see you and one day it may be in person at a retreat organized by Caroline like the Jacob Palooza hopefully. You should try the Sencha green tea - I don't find it as astringent as some others. Also how about Earl Grey creme - ever try that?
Hi Nicole! Meeting in person would be awesome! As it is, I'm grateful for any virtual meet-ups on offer, but there's something special about face-to-face for sure. And thanks for the Sencha suggestion! I also love Earl Grey creme. Sloane Tea makes a wonderful Heavenly Cream which is also bergamot and vanilla based. Try it if you can!
Hey Ryan! My I humbly offer a suggestion? You mentioned you had to start over on a new piece of black Aida due to frogging. Retrieve that piece of Aida and pull those tiny fibers out with that. I did it on some white even weave and It returned to stark white again. Good luck Dude! Love your taste in design.
Congratulations on your one year flossaversary! Your linen is so perfectly folded that yes, I would be interested in seeing how you do that. Also, wondering where you got the very large ring that you hold your smaller rings of floss on. I am using choker type necklaces I purchased at a craft store for hanging the threads on directly and I really liked it but I had actually wanted a large ring like what you have but could not locate one.
Well, Marla, it’s sorted then. I’ll film a folding video! 😊 and the large ring came from a dream catcher kit. I know you can find similar ones online if you do a search on “dream catcher ring”. Michaels Crafts and other places also sell them as floral wreath hoops. Hope you find one that suits your needs!
@@RyRyMcGuy Thank you so much for that information! I really appreciate it and will be on the lookout for those rings and for a folding video (whenever you have time) 🙂
Hi I just subscribed to your channel and Congratulations on your first year on flosstube. 🎉 I was looking for new flosstube people that loved cross stitch as much as I do and I found your channel and I liked it you have a very calming voice very relaxing while I cross stitch. You have a lot of crafts 👏. I will check your the other videos. Can't wait to see what you do. Take care and Happy Stitching. 🌻 BTW where are you from?
Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful words, Janet. Much appreciated! I'm always happy when new folks find me. 😊 I have lived in Toronto, Canada for too many years to count now, but I was raised in rural Manitoba. And happy stitching to you, too!
Thanks, Barbara! I stitched on 36-count linen and left 40 threads between the two panels, with a 10-thread space around the periphery. Having finished it, I can see I should have left more space if I wanted to insert something thicker. But as a double-pocket needle book, it's working perfectly.
Hi Ryan - congrats on your one year Flossaversary. Boy does time fly. Love the Ink Circles you are working on. I have a question about your DMC floss storage. What do you do with threads you have pulled out of the skein but have not needed in the stitching. I keep my DMC in Floss Away bags so I can put in the unused threads. I put them in number order, group them by numbers in a smaller ring, then put the smaller rings on large rings like your fancy floss. I had to really smile when you mentioned the no bake cheesecake. I am not a cake person. Growing up I always requested a Sara Lee cheesecake for my birthday. 😊 A pleasure as always. Take Care
Thanks, Janiece! Time definitely flies when we're having fun. Regarding the DMC floss storage, I recognize it's not perfect or ideal for the very reason you specify. When I'm using a skein in a project, I keep it whole and only unwind a length at a time. Then worst case scenario, at the end of a project, I'll have only used one pulled strand and have 5 left in that particular length. I keep those in a jar and dip into it on occasion for the odd project where the precise colour isn't important. If I'm very clever, for small projects, I'll manage to extract a length of one pulled strand while keeping the rest intact. And yay for Sara Lee!!! We didn't have those where I grew up but you triggered a memory of the Pepperidge Farm ones in the rectangular boxes. Mmmmm
Congrats, Janiece! The random comment generator selected your comment, so if you wish, I'd be happy to send you a PDF of the Friendship Sampler from Ellen Reid of Maximum Cross Stitch. Please send me an email (contact info in drop-down box above on on the "About" page), and we'll make arrangements there. Cheers!
I love your praying mantis. My mom was a huge fan of those insects, even so far as buying their eggs from gardening catalogs and storing in the fridge until they could be put outside to hatch! They are good for the garden, according to mom. I wouldn’t know because I have the world’s brownest thumb. You could stitch a small moth on the branch below the mantis as I know that is one of the things it eats. Maybe the moth could be the color of the mantis’ eyes with a bit of the dark purple? I just added the chart to my cart ‘cause it will remind me of mom 💜
That's a really sweet tribute to your mom. My own mother has a massive green thumb. But growing up, I don't remember any mantis critters. We did, however, have oodles and oodles of ladybugs and dragonflies everywhere. They were great for helping control the mosquito population. Cheers and happy stitching!
Your heart finish is beautiful, I was hoping you would have that done for this video!!! Variegated thread is unpredictable, I still like to try though!!! Eat, Prey, Love... haha, I didn't realize she had bitten the head off of her mate (cuz that's what they do) in the chart... I can't want to stitch that in either, maybe she can be eating a bunch of grapes, that would be suitable to the color pallet! I absolutely love that thimble necklace, I will have to look into that! Until the next video!!!
Hi Janet! I'm happy I finished the heart, too. It was a shockingly smooth and quick stitch. And don't shy away from variegated threads. They're a fun way to play and introduce variety in stitching. Grapes for the mantis are an excellent idea. I do love the purples so you could be on to something. And let me tell you, that thimble purse was definitely a challenge to finish. Not for the faint of heart. You'll be hearing all about it in my next video. 😊 Until then, happy stitching!
Your videos are terrific and I really like your stitching project choices! The sashiko must be so relaxing compared to your more complex pieces? And the “thimble purses” look like tiny, tiny fun. Side note? Kudos to your mom (and pals) for jumping in to FlossTube. No embarrassment on either part will ever be possible!
Thank you so much!!! And yes, the sashiko is very enjoyable and relaxing. I keep it in a small project bag in the living room and I find myself always picking it up to put in a few stitches. It's so easy. I also hope to get my mom to sit with me for a few minutes to record a bit. She's coming for a visit next month, so how could I not?! 😊
Love your video, the praying mantis is fun..Did you know that after the female mates with a male he becomes her lunch? You could change the word "prey" to "pray" and put a book in her front feet? paws? Would you share where you got the hardware for the thimble purse please?
Thank you, Valerie! Yes, many of my friends made me well aware of the mantis mating ritual...with glee, I might add. That's a cute idea with the book, but I'd like to keep it as prey, I think. Regarding the purse hardware, I got mine through Aliexpress. Link: www.aliexpress.com/item/4000851181529.html You should also be able to find it elsewhere with some creative Googling. Best of luck!
We are in step in our storage journey. I organized my linen right before I watched your last video and I'm currently working on my floss organization 😄
Isn't it sweet? Full credit to Nuri for designing such a beautiful piece. It's been so tempting to put everything else aside so I can stitch on that one non-stop. 😁
I have cross stitch now and then and I like it. I have one major problem. When I have stitched I can't get the needle through previous cross stiched areas when I am stitching. A video I saw a couple years ago that I can't find now recommended the he starts at the upper left corner and work across and down in a 10 x10 frame. The next time I get a kit I'm going to try that. I also accidently miss count the aida holes and I end up with a big error. I hope this method I mentioned will help me keep count and less jamming of needle when I go through previous stitched holes hole
Hi, Chuck! It sounds like you have a bit of a dilemma. Of course I have a million questions for you (what size Aida/linen, what gauge needle, how many strands, is it full coverage, etc etc). I have had some struggles as well and found that watching a variety of tutorials and trying a variety of styles helped me find what worked best. Even the angle of the light makes a difference. Maybe pick something small or simple where you’re not afraid to try different things. And as far as getting the needle through a previously-stitched area, I’ve discovered that it’s much easier to come up through a less-used hole (empty or with just one strand) and to go down through the holes that have already been stitched. Please let me know if you’d like me to recommend some of my fave tutorials and I’ll be happy to share.
Oooo fascinating! In Canada, Jell-O made a kit that came with a powder that you mix with milk and the crumb base that you mix with melted butter. Thinking about it now makes me want one! haha!
Thanks! And have you got 2 hours to hear my background-stitching story? hehe. It's not quite linear. But the short answer is Ellen. I totally blame Ellen of Maximum Cross Stitch for influencing me without pushing me in any way. My only regret is that I didn't start sooner.
It was a challenge finding the right hardware. Many of them have holes/perforations along the metal edge or were too large. I managed to find them on Ali Express. I think they can be found on Amazon on occasion, but here's a link to the ones I purchased... www.aliexpress.com/item/4000851181529.html Good luck!
Hi Ryan! Lovely flosstube. I like your changes on the mantis chart, it looks amazing 😊. I think you don’t have to add anything to it to be honest. Also you should be able to show whatever you want in your videos, so knit away and make more gloves!
Hi, Debra! Thank you for your kind words. I look forward to meeting you, too! I loved last year’s retreat so much and I know this year is going to be even more amazing. See you next month!
Congratulations on your Anniversary and enjoyed your stitching.
Thanks, Rhonda! And thanks for watching. 🥰
Congratulations on your one year flossaversary!! 🥂 here’s to looking forward to another.
Thanks, and cheers back! 🥰
Happy Flosstube Anniversary Ryan!!!!
Thank you so much! 🙏
I enjoy your creativity in finding practical, low-cost storage ideas. It is very helpful, thank you for sharing. Lovely photo of your Grandmother.
Thank you, Nancy. My mother had a huge hand in influencing my functionality around crafting and projects so she'll be pleased to know it "stuck". And yes, I'm grateful to have some lovely photos of my family. So many treasured ones! 🥰
Loving your projects. Thanks for sharing. Can't wait to see the thimble purse. Congatulations on 1 year
Thanks so much, Kay! I actually finished the stitching for the purse yesterday. So if I don't lose myself in decisions about the flip side, I hope to have it sewn up today. Fingers crossed!!!
Happy Flosstubiversary! That praying mantis chart of Tracy's is genius, isn't it? Your needlebook idea is great. Thanks for the stitchy inspiration.
Thank you, Sally! Yeah that mantis is a fun little stitch. And I'm always happy to inspire. 😊
Very sweet.
I would have never guessed your occupation as a project manager, but when you mentioned toys the bell went off!!
Yup. I'm very detail oriented. To a fault, really. Plus I'm an excellent planner. 😅
My pleasure, Deb! And I'm always happy to enable. Good luck with the project bag. I find her tutorials excellent to follow.
You stole my heart the first time I saw you with Ellen. I was thrilled when you started your FlossTube. Congratulations on one year of sharing your enormous talent and creativity. Happy stitching. 1:00:28
What a beautiful thing to say. Thank you! I'm so happy you've been enjoying the ride. 😊

I like how you store your fabric. I’m looking forward to see how you fold your fabric. 🪡
Okay, it's settled then. I'll include it in an upcoming video. 😊
Ryan😊❤😊 congrats on your 1 year flossiversary! Omg! Storing linen- aka pile in a drawer- has been one of my stash org problems! Love the box idea for folding! And Marie Kondo 🙌🙌🙌 😊 happy stitching! Lisa
Go for it, Lisa! The linen organization was such a game-changer for me. So go grab that linen and give them a happy home. 😚
Love your projects, finishes, the way you describe your process and the jokes sprinkled throughout. Can’t wait to meet you at SN!
Hugs,

Thank you so much, Marie! I'm so happy I'm able to give back to the Flosstube community after enjoying yours and others informative and entertaining channels. It's nice to be in good company. 😉 And yes, see you in just over a month!!!
Love the FFOs - the needlebook and ‘piece of your heart’ - so beautiful. Womp womp made me smile 😊
Personally, as a vegetarian, I love the praying mantis but I’d swap the ‘beheaded prey’ for a cute flower! Job done 🌼
Congratulations on your first year of flosstube 😊. I always enjoy your videos and your stitching is lovely.
Thanks, Sandra! Much appreciated. Happy stitching!
@@RyRyMcGuy ☺🤫
So happy I found your floss tube. I had a Wonderful time stitching and watching you.
That means a lot to me, Christina! Thank you. I'm planning a real stitch-with-me soon, so then we can all be stitching. 😊
Get outta my head! haha! I have yet to do my Top Ten Tools video and thought that would be a perfect chance to talk all about needles. Stay tuned! 😁
I'm going to go back and binge watch them ❤️
Awww thanks!!! I don't think I've ever been binged upon before, but go for it! 😁

Welcome aboard! It’s never to late to join. And I am humbled and honoured to be mentioned by my other stitchers. Have fun catching up, happy stitching, and see you in the next video!
My 22 year old son who just started cross stitching and I love to watch your floss tube. Happy Floss Tube Anniversary.
Happy floss tube anniversary. That was a fast year. Loved all of it.
Thanks, Joanne! I'm so glad you've enjoyed the ride!

Congrats on your flossaversary! YT recommended your first video to me last year and I'm so happy I wondered over here into flosstube. As usual I'm crocheting while watching :D
Those butterflies are so pretty!
All crafters welcome! ;)
I am not sure if I've seen too many black butterflies.

Glad you like them, Allison! Thank you. :)

I know what you mean by not needing another hobby. I will likely not be investing much more in it beyond the purchase, but it sure was fun to try!
I'm so glad to have found you. Over the last 6/8 months I have rediscovered cross stitch. Which has of course led me to floss tube and to your channel. It's so calming and relaxing to watch/listen to you talk while I am stitching.

Yay for Stitch North and I'm glad you found me! Are you going to the retreat this year? I did a video last year sharing my experience (it was my very first retreat!) and it may offer some insight into it. 😊
@@RyRyMcGuy I am going to the April weekend and I can’t wait!
You are far too sweet. And looking forward to that hug!
Love all the different crafts. Your finishes and plans are a great mix. Until next time take care 🇦🇺
Thanks, Judy! Until next time, happy stitching!
Congrats on a whole year of fabulous flosstube videos! Thank you for sharing! I always enjoy seeing what you’re up to. I really liked your Sashiko project. I have done some in the past and found it very relaxing and satisfying as well. See you next time❤️
Thank you, Anne! I'm happy to hear you enjoyed Sashiko, too. Relaxing and satisfying are definitely the right words to use. Happy stitching!
Happy Flosstuberversary! Love your videos. Here’s to many more! ❤
Thanks so much! They've been so fun to make and I'm grateful you and others have been enjoying them.
@@RyRyMcGuy ❤️
I have so enjoyed your stitching/floss tube journey. I admire multi-crafters you seemingly do it all. Thank you for sharing with us!
😍 (This is why I took prolonged break from Flosstube! lol)
Your tea closet resembles mine -- Irish, Scottish or English breakfast tea for the morning.
Kind of miss those Harlequin Romances. 185 or 6 pages I think.
Yup! Short and sweet. I remember always seeing them in those revolving stands near the checkout lanes at the grocery store. My mom devoured them.
You are amazingly talented. Love that ‘drawn’ pattern that you can stitch on the fly so easily! Congratulations on your 1 year flosstube anniversary!
Thank you! And the Sashiko really is a great packable, portable craft. I'll be sure to share it again once it's finished and the ink has been washed out. 😁
Would love to see a folding video. Your DMC solution is great! I love how you can see all the colours.
I've seen many of Tracy's designs done in monochrome and they all look gorgeous, so go for it
I love both ideas! I might have to do one of each! 💗
Congrats on 1 year! I've enjoyed and always look forward to your videos!
That's so sweet. Thank you!!!
Congrats on your year anniversary! I enjoy your finishing ideas.
Thanks, Terri! It's always fun trying to find new ideas for finishes.
Congrats on your one year on Flosstube. I enjoy your videos I’m new here.
Welcome, Sandy! I'm so glad you're enjoying them. 😊
Thank you for the suggestion! They're always welcome. This stitching community is so awesome and open to help. 🙏
Congrats for your 1 year 🎉 your needlebook FFO is very beautiful ❤ I am from Quebec, Canada 😊
Thank you so much, Nathalie! I love making useful items out of stitching projects and this one was such a delight to stitch!
Love the needle book idea with the Frisian band sampler. How much space did you leave between the two patterns so you can fold it like a book?
Thanks, Barbara! I stitched on 36-count linen and left 40 threads between the two panels, with a 10-thread space around the periphery. Having finished it, I can see I should have left more space if I wanted to insert something thicker. But as a double-pocket needle book, it's working perfectly.
I love the Friendship sampler.
Thanks, Debra! I really enjoyed stitching it.
Wow, one year already? Congratulations, I think you’ve grown into this new venture quite well. I always enjoy your posts!
You're so kind to say that, Melinda! Thank you, and I'm happy you're enjoying the journey with me. 😊
Mmmmm
@@RyRyMcGuy ❣️
Congrats, Janiece! The random comment generator selected your comment, so if you wish, I'd be happy to send you a PDF of the Friendship Sampler from Ellen Reid of Maximum Cross Stitch. Please send me an email (contact info in drop-down box above on on the "About" page), and we'll make arrangements there. Cheers!
@@RyRyMcGuy what a nice surprise. I sent you an email so you now havey email address. Let me know if I need to do anything else. Take care
Happy Flossiversary. You reminded me that my Mom used to make the Cherry Dream Whip Cheesecake every Easter. Will have to make one.
Oooo I'm not familiar with that. Will definitely have to Google it.
I love spending some stitchy time with you!
Oh thank you so much! And thank you for the company. :)
Psyched for us all to maybe meet your mom via FlossTube! She raised a good one. Slow hand to both of you!
Link: www.aliexpress.com/item/4000851181529.html
You should also be able to find it elsewhere with some creative Googling. Best of luck!
Great video, Ryan❤ not quite finished watching yet, but I’ll finish it later I think for your praying mantis you should give it a hoop and a needle😊
Thanks, Sandra! That's a very clever idea with the mantis, too. I didn't think that I should have started a poll for ideas. 😁
We are in step in our storage journey. I organized my linen right before I watched your last video and I'm currently working on my floss organization 😄
Twins!!! hehehe I love it!
OOO i really liked the butterfly, and everthing else, but the butterfly on that linen was beautiful!
Isn't it sweet? Full credit to Nuri for designing such a beautiful piece. It's been so tempting to put everything else aside so I can stitch on that one non-stop. 😁
Happy Flossaversary Ryan! 👏🏻🎂🎊. I enjoyed your cross stitch video today. Cheers, Marilyn 🧑🏻🦰🇨🇦
Thank you, Marilyn! Much appreciated!
The no bake cheese cake, it was buy Country Time Lemonade. ME TOO!! LOVE LOVE LOVE.
Oooo fascinating! In Canada, Jell-O made a kit that came with a powder that you mix with milk and the crumb base that you mix with melted butter. Thinking about it now makes me want one! haha!
You work on so many diverse projects - loved spending the time with you today.
Thank you, Norma! I'm glad you could tune in. And diversity is the spice of life! 🥰
Wow that heart is beautiful! It looks awesome in the frame. Such an amazing valentine's day present. Thank you : )
You are so welcome!
Your mom plays pickle ball? I’M IMPRESSED.
Oh yes, she's always been athletic and active. She was doing pickle ball long before it caught on. Such a trend-setter. ;)
Congrats on ur flossaversary. What got you into stitching?
Thanks! And have you got 2 hours to hear my background-stitching story? hehe. It's not quite linear. But the short answer is Ellen. I totally blame Ellen of Maximum Cross Stitch for influencing me without pushing me in any way. My only regret is that I didn't start sooner.
I’ve wanted to do a thimble purse ever since I saw one on IG. Where did you buy the hardware? Congratulations on your YT milestone!
It was a challenge finding the right hardware. Many of them have holes/perforations along the metal edge or were too large. I managed to find them on Ali Express. I think they can be found on Amazon on occasion, but here's a link to the ones I purchased...

Hi Ryan! Lovely flosstube. I like your changes on the mantis chart, it looks amazing 😊. I think you don’t have to add anything to it to be honest.
