I was so nervous about Satriani after the Stern stuff, but damn dude… he killed it! He managed to do his own thing while still giving us enough of Eddie’s parts to make us happy, and it was SO COOL. My boyfriend who friggin hates “dad rock” had an absolute blast at the show.
@@HDMann292 it was not lost on me that while I struggled to hold the camera in the heat for two hours, he was dancing around and singing his ass off. I really need to get in shape.
LOL. Wow. Actually, the opposite is true. He doesn't play Eddie's stuff well at all. He was very much the wrong choice. He very rarely does any double tapping, for instance, which makes a lot of Eddie's stuff sound quite different. On occasion, he flubs/butchers parts of songs/solos. Apparently, you aren't aware that he has been widely criticized as being a BAD choice, let alone not "perfect" or "the right guy." I am not saying he can't play. That would be silly. But he isn't the right guy for this. Steve Vai would have been the best choice.
@@slyjokerg Ha! You're right, no I'm not! @@davidmoskowitz1801 I doubt it will. I was talking with a friend and was explaining that the difference between Joe and Eddie playing are the nuances that make each person unique as players. Eddie would have these go to harmonic rigs and techniques that were just ingrained to his playing of the guitar, while Joe does too. It’s just that they are different than Ed’s. It’s in those small nuances that you notice the difference in who is playing the song. Those unique personalities are infused over decades of playing and they won’t disappear.

They should have let Rai sing lead on a DLR song like Jump or song that Sammy was struggling with due to loosing some of his range due to age. Rai is a very talented and versatile musician, and his voice is strong and he has very good pitch.

Wow, the exact day before we saw them at the Dallas Dos Equis Pavilion. My wife, 13 yr old son, and withstood that sweltering heat! Was it air condition in Houston? This group is not exactly 20 something and they are rocking it!
no, this was an outdoor show, and I agree, the level of performance, given the heat was extraordinary. I mean Sammy is 76! I was having a hard time holding that camera gimbal up over my head for 2+ hours, and those dudes were on stage under lights just killing it! I was humbled!. BTW, Congratulations on taking your son! well for this show, he had some amps custom built to mimic the tone, so it wasn't the normal Marshall stuff. Was it 100% probably not, did it sound great, yup :)
The people going out of their way to kiss Satriani's butt are obvious plants/fanboys. He is actually a bad choice for this gig. His style is very unlike Eddie's. He is an unnatural choice to represent Eddie, even when he isn't getting stuff wrong.
How sad is your life if this is what you think about? I feel for you dude. Satriani is a brilliant guitar player and brave enough to take this gig on. I'd love to hear you play Van Halen songs in front of 20000 people every night, and he's 68! Call me a fanboy. Ok, that's fine, but what does that make you?
