I àllways felt the same felt VH was better on their own, and Sammy was better being a solo artist. Loved that song HIGH HOPES Sammy did solo after a run with VH. From the UNBOXED ALBUM. Original VH sound changed big time with Sammy. It's all history now........Sammy was better as a solo artist. IMO..... Peace..........
What a voice! What a showman! I've been a fan of Sammy since his days with Montrose. Was fortunate to see him on the Standing Hampton tour at the Apollo in Manchester in 1982. More than 40 years on, he's still delivering great shows and his voice STILL sounds great! Rock n Roll legend!

What makes Sammy a better man than his incredible stage presence or music is that he's the real article. My best friend in 2012 within 6 months of passing wrote to Sammy telling the red rocker how much he loved his music and that it inspired him. He would also share his current struggle acquiring cancer. Sammy responded personally via letter saying that he's dealt with cancer before with family members and extended his love to my friend telling him to do his best and spend every moment loving your wife, children, and friends so that they'll know how much their loved by him. Sammy that day won my respect for all time by showing amazing humility, grace, and most important love. To this day I'll never forget how important Sammy's letter meant to my friend and family. In my opinion this is Sammy at his very best. He had so much great stuff before joining VH. Not many frontmen then and now could entertain like this guy. Great post.
Sammy LOVES St. Lous.* KSHE95 "Real Rock Radio" played a big role in Sammy's fame and fortune. The first song he wrote is "Bad Motor Scooter" i(when he was with Montrose) has alawys been my favorite with "Heavy Metal" coming in second. I saw Saamy 3-4 times in the early 80's. Sammy lit up the Checkerdome in '83 and VH set it on fire too in '84. Then I was surprised in '85 when I was at the first Farn-Aid and Sammy came walking out with EVH. They played LZ's "Rock and Rolll" and and 2 oe 3 other songs. A couple wfeeks later, I found out that Van Hagar was born.
LaVonne, why do you say he;s "underrated"? Hagar is one of the most successfol rockers there is.. He's been in the HoF for 12 years. He's worth a furtune too. How damn much higher rated can he get?
Hagar easily has to be the most underrated singer/songwriters in rock and roll history. Never understood the abuse he has had to take - the guy can sing/play/write with the best of them.
You don't understand the music business. They want to eliminate artists at all costs. If you sign to a label and want to actually do something they will try to kill you.
+joe Pipe Seriously? 4 #1 albums in a row (would have had another one if he stayed) , sold out crowds everywhere for 10 straight years! You're idiot to say that.

I was there!!! My first concert ever and been a HUGE Sammy fan ever since!!! I saw him again the very next year in 1984 at the Checkerdome again. Outstanding performer!!! Seen him many many times ever since, he is the only singer I’ll pay to see in concert.
I saw him on the same tour when he came to Las Vegas and performed at the Aladdin Theater. Wow! I was 18. What an awesome show. Watching this brings back some of what I remember seeing that night.
Seen him 13 times!!! Solo, with Van Halen, the Waboritas, the Circle, and Chickenfoot. Standing Hampton/Three Lock Box is still my favorite Sammy album. He has a blast at every single show!! ❤️
Saw this one on MTV... Changed my life!! One of the greatest performances in rock history. Sammy was on fire! Unfortunately the video is not the greatest but you can see what's happening... Sammy in his prime!! Anyone wanting to be a lead singer should watch this first. This is how you do it! Great band too! OMG this is almost as good as it gets! Oh Shit!
1st concert i was able to drive to.. Oh Man did i ever owe my Dad for letting me take the car to go see The "RED ROCKER". I was hooked line and sinker. My dad has since passed.. But i told him time and time again thanks for letting me have those memories of that concert and great time.. St.Louis were SAMMY is king...
This guy literally knows what he wants to be. And the fact that he went through so brazenly with his ideas is what makes him original in my head. His 70’s records are still powerful and influential. Before my time, and still cooler than anything today.
He was RELENTLESS. Put out nine albums in seven years and toured like it was going out of style before joining VH. He had a legit claim to the title “Hardest Working Man in Heavy Metal.”
August 2024 and jamming this full blast on my bluetooth speaker at work at least once every couple of weeks!! Would love to see a remastered version of this
I've seen plenty of shows in my day, but I don't think I've ever seen anybody with more energy than Sammy ever back in those days! The first four songs of the show just slay me. Freaking awesome!
This concert is everything people have already said. Sammy performs with more energy than three nuclear power plants, maybe four. But above all, he performs with more emotion than anyone I have seen. And he saved my favorite Sammy song for the encore, "Remember The Heroes". I wept. God bless Sammy Hagar and this great divided country.
I don't know what it is about Sammy and St Louis. That city just fucking LOVES the guy. I saw him at Busch Stadium in 1980 at the Grand Slam Super Jam. Journey was probably one of the biggest bands in the world at the time and Sammy STILL closed that show. Just awesome. Saw him for the very first time open for Boston back in 1978 or 79 in Oklahoma City. Never heard of the guy (wasn't familiar with his Montrose days) Walked out of that show just AMAZED. Sammy stole that whole tour. He was the obvious star on that tour.
00:00 Love or Money 02:05 Three Lock Box 05:45 Baby's on Fire 09:27 I don't need Love 13:35 Never Give Up 16:32 I've Done Everything for You 21:05 Heavy Metal 25:57 Rise of the Animal 33:41 I'll Fall in Love again 37:16 Your Love Is Driving Me Crazy 42:30 Bad Motor Scooter 48:32 Red 55:18 There's Only One Way to Rock 01:02:14 Baba O'Riley 01:10:44 Remember the Heroes
It's weird that he rarely did Two Sides of Love on this tour, it wasn't a huge hit, but it was a single and a radio staple of the time, yet for some reason he didn't like playing it live it seems.
Sammy at his best. LOVED THIS ERA! What a shame it all got derailed by Van Halen. He had an awesome band here. He played guitar too. He had such great melodic stuff. Honestly wish he never joined Van Halen. VH would have been fine and we would have kept this train going. Too me, VH was DLR. This was Sammy. Love this!
Van Hagar was just Sammy with the best backing band ever. I agree with Van Halen being the David Lee Roth years. That music has such swagger, music from the hips. Sammy wrote his most ROCK oriented music as a solo artist. This was my last concert seeing him because he was leaning towards Pop-rock and that became very evident with Van Hagar. Bummer... I was lucky enough to meet him as well! He did an in-store appearance at the Peaches out in Ballwin. I didn't even know he was going to be there, just rode my bike up to look at records. I see a limousine parked out front. Thought to myself, "Must be somebody important here." Walked in at the very end not knowing who he was! Only a handful of people left and I saw them picking up Peaches sheets and handing them to him. So I figured, why not?! I grabbed one and stepped up. He asked me how I wanted him to sign it. This was '78, I was a stoner 17-18 year old so I said, "To a freak." He smiled and replied, "How about to a fellow freak?!" 😄 Sure! I was the last one to get an autograph as his Mgr whispered in his ear and after he handed me back the sheet he stood up and started pumping his fists in the air, "Thank you! You guys rock!!" There was maybe a dozen people left standing around and he was pumped like it was Busch Stadium full of people! I looked down at my sheet, "To A Fellow Freak... Sammy Hagar" Holy shit, is THAT who that was??! He was there to promote the Musical Chairs album and I had no idea. The Universe guided me there. 😆 Still have that autograph tho. Tucked away now but going to frame it and hang it in the Sight & Sound room (big screen TV, full sound system) of the new house. Funny, I read an article with him about a month ago where the interviewer, from KSHE, told him how they STILL play "Rock 'n Roll Weekend" every Friday at 6pm. Sammy freaked out. "No shit! Really? Man, I'm gonna open my show with that song now that I know THAT!" This was for KSHE'S 55th Birthday Party in August of '22. I didn't go, too damn hot. But I'll bet he kept his word, he loves St Louis!!
Sammy's wallet sure isn't sad he joined Van Halen. He was a good musician, but a b-level star at the time, i doubt he had much money in the bank, his solo albums weren't big sellers and neither was Montrose. Van Halen made him a multi-millionaire, and then the money he made off them helped him launch is Tequila and Rum companies and his clubs which earned him over 200 million dollars. Something he would never have achieved if he hadn't joined VH
I LOVE this Sammy Hagar. True madman up on that stage and entertaining as hell. Something seemed to have snapped after joining VH. Yes, they had incredible commercial success together, but it jusn't wasn't the same ever again, and especially Hagar somehow became an unbearably self-important jackass ever since.
I absolutely love Sammy....to this day, every time I've seen him live,he looks like he's having the time of his life and loves being there with the crowd. Man,he really mastered the art of writing some great hard rock songs with great hooks. Memorable, cool songs that still sound so good.
Cool! I saw him in Seattle in 1983. Do you recall if anyone opened for him? I was a senior that year and many of my classmates drove to the show from the Canadian border area. I drove my midnight blue 260Z! Those were the days.
THAT WAS THE BEST CONCERT! That concert was absolutely epic! Bryan Adams, Sammy Hagar, and Journey completely rocked the house. The summer before my senior year was packed with incredible memories, all set to the backdrop of Sammy's music. Without a doubt, Sammy's best work was the "Balance" record with Van Halen. His unforgettable live performance at Autzen Stadium in 1983 and the electrifying show at the Gorge in George, Washington when he toured with David Lee Roth were simply unbeatable.
I was There too !!! A Very Memorable Show....... Awesome, So glad to have found this, Would like to find a Regular Copy on DVD. Those were the Days........

This was my very first Sammy concert. I've been a fan ever since !!❤❤
Love Sammy’s All Night Long Live album (one of the greatest live albums ever). I remember watching this on MTV when MTV was cool. Great concert. Gary Pihl is an underrated guitar player
Sammy is just plain AWESOME. Seems like an unbelievably nice guy and incredible business smarts, Oh and he can sing the notes even to this day with his voice or guitar. Absolute bad ass musician.
Caught this tour, way back when during the zero cell phones, zero chaos, low cost, tons of poturs, zero tracks, zero lip sync, fun concert era, many good times were had... \m/
I remember he was known as a very good guitarist when I was in high school 1977-1980. It's amazing how when he joined VH - many fans were unaware of that and he understated his musicianship in that regard so as to keep the spotlight on EVH. Eddie had no issue playing with him though. Sammy is a very well rounded musician - understated should be his middle name - the man is driven, humble, and extremely creative.
In my opinion, he was a good, solid rock and roll guitar player - not overly amazing, but knew exactly what the song needed and played it with balls and conviction. However, once you combine his playing with his amazing vocals, his top-notch songwriting, his showmanship, and his skills as a bandleader, you’ve got complete package that perhaps has never been equaled in Rock and roll history - I certainly can’t think of one.
Seen Sammy 3 times from around this tour til VOA,Dude know how to work an audience in Texas, with his style and senseY of humor. Cotton Jam and Texas Loves You Brother.
Hagar wasn't born to play a guitar, he wasn't born to wage war with those pipes of his, that man was born to entertain!! and ... he has the last laugh ... big, close family, ginormous car collection, friends in high places, a shrewd businessman, STILL rockin' and damned near 70 ... and I don't think I'd call him a "rockin' oldie" to his face ....
I had the police at my door many a nights rocking to Sammy. I had the most kick ass stereo, shake the cups out of the cupboards. It all started with the original Montrose album. A classic that is hard to beat, all made possible by this man, the Red Rocker. Not only an awesome musician but a wonderful human being. I was lucky enough to have worked close to where he lived, and a coworker's wife was his business manager, still is. Got some rare privileges I won't ever forget. Seen him many of times, never disappoints. He deserves all the best and will be forever blessed. Long live the Red Rocker.
Was there. My second sammy concert. Frickin awesome. Saw him every time he came to flyover country, St. Louis, After that. 2 night's in a row for the I can't drive 55 tour. 9th row and 14th row seats. k-SHE has been the longest running all rock station in the USA. Always played the best music before the left and right coasts caught on. Long live Sammy
I was at this show! The old Checkerdome in St. Louis! I had terrible seats but this was on of the best shows I've ever seen. Look at Bill Church and Gary P. (Phyl?) on guitar. Gary P. now with Boston!
I met Sammy exiting the Sweetwater Saloon in Mill Valley....I said ...."Sammy Hagar the Red Rocker...I caught a drum stick at one of your shows!".....he absolutely loved it!
I discovered Sammy on TH-cam a year ago and I am hooked. I watch videos every day and he is great . He sounds good at any age and his energy level is amazing. I hope to someday see a concert of him. I suffer from depression and it goes away watching him. I am a year older than Sammy
Hey Linda I understand depression. I'm a manic depressant and I have PTSD. Just don't let ìt take control of your life. You are loved and I will be praying for you sweetheart. I'm here if you need a friend!!!
I saw Sammy at least a hals-dozen times. i used to love him....Then i had the Fox Theatre experience in 2005. I had spent $500 on great tix from a ticket reseller and I was on crutches.. Sammy likes to talk but that night, he wouldn't shut up. He came out with Miichael Anthony an hour late.. Both were loadedon JD,, beligerant, stupid, and angry. He was pissed off that Anheuder-Busch wouldn't brew a Sammy Hagar beer. Everything went down from there. Sammy Hagar was bitching at his St. Louis fans about our brewery. He was pointing at people with AB apparel on and biitching at them directly. If you're from St. Louis, you know how we are about our brewery. Apparently, Hagar didn't know we take that sgit persnally. We booed and threw cups at him and he finally left after about 45 minutes.
Love the Album….Saw him on same tour in Chicago, Night Ranger opened up for Sammy Incredible Tour!!! He actually climbed the stage light scaffolding and with one arm threw his guitar on top of the amps and caught fire, this guy had stamina!! He also stood on the Trans Am car and the inside started smoking with fuses going off..he was top of his game this was better than any Van Hagar shows by far!!!!!!!It was one of the Best 1980s Shows, besides Iron Maiden(s) Black Sabbath Mob Rules, Born Again Tours etc I went to a lot of concerts. .I have a cigar box of ticket stubs going back to 1978-1993. Sammy did sing Montrose “Bad Motor Scooter’ on the Trans Am hood for us Chicago #1 fans..Sammy Rules!! #1)Standing Hampton #2) Three Lock Box #3)Danger Zone/Street Machine tied… VOA was good too…Sammy never disappoints…
This was Sammys major coming out party. I know he was known, had Montrose and all but this cemented him in rock lore. MTV sky rocketed him to the top and he's never stepped off.
1973 I saw him on first Montrose tour. BEST show he ever did. Saw him in 75, 76 and 77 (free show in fort worth) and in 1979 opening for Boston. Met him (and Gary Pihl) earlier in the day at the record store I worked at Sound Town in Ridgmar Mall. Cool guy.
I'm from St. Louis. St. Louis loves Sammy. I was not at this concert because I was not yet a Sammy fan. But I always tried to watch the MTV concerts and this one blew them all away. My jaw dropped during the first song and stayed there the whole concert. The very next day I started collecting his albums. Long live the red rocker!
Thank you for posting, i remember this tour with the car pulled out on stage and riser dropping on top of it. Concert was great. Man did he put to gether some really great albums in early 80s standing hampton, 3 lock box, and VOA. Actually been listening to alot of those in last few weeks.
I was at this show, Hagar is a kick ass hard rocker from way back! check all his music out going back to Montrose! His style changed in VH, I was let down. I was expecting a volcanic melt down when EVH and Hagar got together. No matter what he does its always good.
Yeah but they wanted a new direction more pop. They forgot that Acdc made a lot of money without to change the style.... Here Hagar breaks the wall of sound, It's an incredible show of high energy. Sure his peak.
Remember stumbling onto this late one night in HS, I was hooked! Your Love Is Drivin Me Crazy is still one of the most underrated songs in rock history (IMO).
This is pretty awesome. Moved to St Louis in '84 and saw him at the Checkerdome as well. Saw him with Van Halen in '86, and now seeing him 29 years later this August at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheater. This brings back some very good times and a time that brought huge changes in my life....for the better mind you.
+Andrew Tornadoboy .. Agree 101%. I have several live FM radio broadcast on this site. Still missing 3 or 4 that I know of. From his live Montrose Days till now I don't think I ever seen a live video or a live (in person) show that he was not giving 101%..
He just LOVES IT, you can't watch him and not come away with that impression. I haven't seen him live in concert yet, but it's VERY high on my "before I die" list.
I went to this exact show, 14 years old. Amazing that this exists. Thanks for the post. Still one of the best live concerts I have ever seen. I have been to a few since then. There were several great concerts at the Checkerdome.
Sammy Hagar is the most complete musician I ve ever seen, he sings, he plays guitar, he does the guitar solos and write those beautiful songs, thank you for your music and having those great band members playing with you !!! And I agree, He is at his very best moment ! Sammy as a main frontmen never needed V. H, they desperately needed him to not loose success and to not stay behind of the other bands that were really competitive in those years, so that would have happened to V. H. for sure if he didn't joined them !
I saw Sammy 2 yrs later on his VOA tour with my roommates at the time. Great show...the crowd was singing along with almost every song...total blast! We saw a bunch of concerts together.
Floyd Benson I was just to the right of the 2 cameras on the stand behind the soundboard. Check out the 82 st Louis recording I got here. It's just random pictures but put on some ear buds, good sound. Lots of Standing Hampton on it with extended songs.
1979-89, I owned a restaurant business in Chico, California. Probably around 1980, Sammy performed at a free acoustic concert in a Chico park. Highlight was the band and crew packing-up while Sammy sat on the edge of the platform doing a solo CAN'T DRIVE 55. By that point in the day, I bet less than twenty goers remained. He didn't have to do that. I was impressed!
my 1st concert was in 85 seeing Sammy during the VOA tour, needless to say I was blown away, I still hold this as one of the best concerts I've ever been to, to this day! You always get your moneys worth at a Sammy Hagar concert!
kinda strange watching this knowing i was a 17 year old kid out in the audience there trippin on acid, seen a lot of shows at the old checkerdome great place for concerts !
Hats off to Sammy! Takes me back to my late teens cruisin in my 1971 SS Chevelle with this awesome music pumping through the Pioneer Super Tuner. Many people don't realuze this man was a star before Van Halen. Look at Hagar Rock, stands the test of time!
I do agree....but damn....he killed it on the 5150 tour with VH a few years later. Saw them at the “Live Without a Net” show in New Haven...they blew the roof off!
@@daneph this jerk off made a comment in your little comment thing he said send me look like a dog so I made I went into his little thing and I said I bet you look like a dork b****
I was there to, backstage. My girlfriend's Dad drove the bus for Sammy, her brother for Night Ranger. Rode around on the bus after the show for 'Torch's' birthday. Absolutely knocked it out of the park. Gary went to the band 'Boston'.
This was my very first rock concert, March 13, 1983, back in the days when artists made albums good enough to justify playing the entire album in their show. That says alot when you consider the music he had already made. Nice seeing this show again. Night Ranger opened this, and they were awesome too.
I remember watching this on MTV at the time and being completely blown away at the non-stop energy level... and that was through the TV; I couldn't imagine how mind numbing it was in that venue. Gary Pihl and Sammy were both ON FIRE that night. Great show, all time status for sure.
I was at this concert as an 18 year old. I remember a friend had an extra ticket. I think it was 2nd row. Just seeing this video for the first time today. It really is nostalgic.
THIS NEEDS TO BE REMASTERED
Sammy was so much more entertaining and vibrant on his own. The VH era took a lot away from his originality sadly. Great concert.
I àllways felt the same felt VH was better on their own, and Sammy was better being a solo artist. Loved that song HIGH HOPES Sammy did solo after a run with VH. From the UNBOXED ALBUM. Agreed - he saved Van Halen, loved the great Van Hagar music, kept Van Halen relevant. They should be thanking him instead of creating him down.

I was a junior in high school. Where has time gone...
One of the greatest concerts ever !!! The line-up was awesome, Bill "THE ELECTRIC" Church !!!!! Sammy Hagar never gave a bad show, 110 % ROCK !!!!
Oh Shit!
I was there! Definitely one of many inspirations for me becoming a lead singer.
i saw it on mtv also, Saturday night 10pm starts, hooked up through my bedroom stereo. Now i realize --obvious lip SYNC hahaha
I remember his MTV Concert, it was a great show.
and remember the Firebird!
@Corsairforu
Supposed to be a...
Trans Am!! 😉
Cool.
Love your story brother
The shit Sammy fkn Hagar the red rocker,!!
I was there to dude. 55 now. Nightranger opened. Fantastic night!
Did you drive there at 55mph?
People forget what a beast Sammy is on the guitar.
No he isn't
@scav3155 says the guy with zero subscribers and zero likes. Pathetic move buddy
@80smusicfan90 He's a beast of a singer but not a guitarist. He's good not great. Don't take it personally.
@scav3155 I was in the wrong I apologise brother
@@ChristianContemporaryMusic02 👍
This guy literally knows what he wants to be. And the fact that he went through so brazenly with his ideas is what makes him original in my head. His 70’s records are still powerful and influential. Before my time, and still cooler than anything today.
Montrose!!
I'm in st Louis from st Louis Sammy loves st Louis he's on kshe 95 real rock radio every Sunday night STILL!!!!
RED ROCKER SAMMY❤
I was at this concert and it was awesome!!!
@@alritehamilton I wasn’t born yet. Your era fucking ruled!
', thank's SAMMY THANKS THE MARVELOUS EDDIE
He was RELENTLESS. Put out nine albums in seven years and toured like it was going out of style before joining VH. He had a legit claim to the title “Hardest Working Man in Heavy Metal.”
Sammy in St. Louis, there's nothing like it!
August 2024 and jamming this full blast on my bluetooth speaker at work at least once every couple of weeks!! Would love to see a remastered version of this
Amazing how much energy he had back in the day. He cranked out the first 4 tunes without a break in between. Awesome!
Watch Van Halen "Live without a net" concert. Made DLR sound like a loser.
I've seen plenty of shows in my day, but I don't think I've ever seen anybody with more energy than Sammy ever back in those days! The first four songs of the show just slay me. Freaking awesome!
Saturday April 2, 1983! Spokane WA with Night Ranger me and my roommates had the HAGAR KEGGAR! Too much fun
Maybe it was the standing Hampton tour? That I was at
This concert is everything people have already said. Sammy performs with more energy than three nuclear power plants, maybe four. But above all, he performs with more emotion than anyone I have seen. And he saved my favorite Sammy song for the encore, "Remember The Heroes". I wept.
God bless Sammy Hagar and this great divided country.
IM FROM ST LOUIS I WAS 13 IN 83 I KNOW MANY WHO WAS THERE WOW FUCK
I don't know what it is about Sammy and St Louis. That city just fucking LOVES the guy. I saw him at Busch Stadium in 1980 at the Grand Slam Super Jam. Journey was probably one of the biggest bands in the world at the time and Sammy STILL closed that show. Just awesome. Saw him for the very first time open for Boston back in 1978 or 79 in Oklahoma City. Never heard of the guy (wasn't familiar with his Montrose days) Walked out of that show just AMAZED. Sammy stole that whole tour. He was the obvious star on that tour.

It's weird that he rarely did Two Sides of Love on this tour, it wasn't a huge hit, but it was a single and a radio staple of the time, yet for some reason he didn't like playing it live it seems.
Not bad if the first song you ever wrote was Bad Motor Scooter ...😂❤
Loving every second of this ❤
One great set list love it
@@greatunz67 The Sides of Love wasn't written/recorded until VOA (the following year/tour).
I was at this show Sammy always delivers. He is one of the best performers of all time.
Still have that autograph tho.
Real bands playing instruments.and singing .Before auto tune and Rap horseshit ruined music.
Sammy Hagar is still playing rock and roll five years after you said this, boomer.
I saw this very same tour in Denver. One of the best concerts I have ever seen.
Rainbow Music Hall, right? Broadcast live on KAZY,I believe......
Saw him twice, once in '79, again in '80. Dear God, the man can rock.
Directed by Mr. Anger Sammy had the right man for the point of direction for this video.
The Red Rocker is THE VOICE OF AMERICA!!!
I absolutely love Sammy....to this day, every time I've seen him live,he looks like he's having the time of his life and loves being there with the crowd. Man,he really mastered the art of writing some great hard rock songs with great hooks. Memorable, cool songs that still sound so good.
Saw Sammy in Eugene Oregon 1983! Great concert!
Was at this concert 1983. I cant' even begin to say how amazing it was. RIP Checkerdome. Sammy Red Hot Rocked It! Seems like yesterday!
This was my first SAMMY HAGAR show. Opened for ZZ Top. 1983 Norfolk Scope, Norfolk, VA. Absolutely AWESOME !!! I was 17.
AWESOME!
Just curious. What High School? Just curious.
Was it near Diamond Bar, California?
I heard Sammy may be from Diamond Bar. (Me too).
Seen Sammy 3 times from around this tour til VOA,Dude know how to work an audience in Texas, with his style and senseY of humor.
Cotton Jam and Texas Loves You Brother.
Great concert! I was there with two of my friends. Night Ranger opened for him and kicked ass too.
i miss this live sound from live shows i wish they still recorded them the same way, the sound is huuuuge and live!
I saw this tour in OC, California......one of the best concerts I've seen. Y&T opened from him
Hagar wasn't born to play a guitar, he wasn't born to wage war with those pipes of his, that man was born to entertain!! and ... he has the last laugh ... big, close family, ginormous car collection, friends in high places, a shrewd businessman, STILL rockin' and damned near 70 ... and I don't think I'd call him a "rockin' oldie" to his face ....
dixiedragon54 he’ll be 71 in October.
Saw Sammy at the Tangerine Bowl in Orlando with ZZ Top and Triumph on the Eliminator tour. What a show!
I was there, Missed ZZ Top and Triumph, on my back from acid. Never did that again !
Sounds great!
Sammy loves St. Louis and we love him right back. The Red Rocker is da' man !!!
Sammy is a good old rock and roller
This was Sammys major coming out party. I know he was known, had Montrose and all but this cemented him in rock lore. MTV sky rocketed him to the top and he's never stepped off.
1973 I saw him on first Montrose tour. BEST show he ever did. Saw him in 75, 76 and 77 (free show in fort worth) and in 1979 opening for Boston. Met him (and Gary Pihl) earlier in the day at the record store I worked at Sound Town in Ridgmar Mall. Cool guy.
I loved this tour! I had the privilege of seeing it! Sammy was at his Peak!
Long live the red rocker!
i was, it was even better than you can imagine
Thank you for posting, i remember this tour with the car pulled out on stage and riser dropping on top of it. Concert was great. Man did he put to gether some really great albums in early 80s standing hampton, 3 lock box, and VOA. Actually been listening to alot of those in last few weeks.
First time I've ever watched...this. Huge Van Hagar fan....but Sammy plays a mean lead guitar here. Very impressed.
One of the BEST voices in rock.
There are guys you can tell just LIVE to sing live in front of an audience and never "phone it in", Sammy is most definitely one of them!
+Andrew Tornadoboy Oh, Sam has "mailed" it in many times.
11.00 for this show beats any 100.00 tickets now days...entertainment at its best
hairball ray YEP!!!!!
Saw the Milwaukee leg of this tour absolutely Great show.
Exactly 40 years from now of this concert !!!
I was at this concert I was about 16 and I had a freakin blast!
Still sounds the same 31 years later. Wow...what a talent!
I saw Sammy 2 yrs later on his VOA tour with my roommates at the time.
Great show...the crowd was singing along with almost every song...total blast!
We saw a bunch of concerts together.
I was there, snuck on the floor, great concert. Seen him many times.
I was there and I see it now and think how young he is and I would have been 16 myself also young what a great concert loved him then love him now
I was there! My first Sammy concert and I'll never forget it. Can't wait for 9/30/17... Sammy is back in STL for KSHE-95's 50th birthday party.
Floyd Benson I was just to the right of the 2 cameras on the stand behind the soundboard.
Check out the 82 st Louis recording I got here. It's just random pictures but put on some ear buds, good sound. Lots of Standing Hampton on it with extended songs.
This will ensure Sammy will always remain young and show you the raw talent he had.
So much intensity, so much passion. Can’t say enough good things about Sammy. Love this man to death. Manic
Here we are .. Oct 2021 & Sammy celebrating another BD🔥❤️
A national treasure!
I was there!! Sammy in the Lou.... doesn’t get any better!
I was there too when I was 22 yrs old

I was there as well, at 30 years old. What an unparalleled performance! The energy he has is unbelievable!!

Hats off to Sammy! Takes me back to my late teens cruisin in my 1971 SS Chevelle with this awesome music pumping through the Pioneer Super Tuner. Many people don't realuze this man was a star before Van Halen. Look at Hagar Rock, stands the test of time!
My first car was a 1971 CHEVELLE MALIBU 4 DOOR 4 ON FLOOR 8 CYLINDER ENGINE IM IN ST LOUIS
Did you run Jensen Triaxle speakers with the Pioneer like so many others did for a sweet loud thump?
i was at this show....night ranger opened it was a great show!!!.......sammy neverrrrrrrr needed van halen....
J.W. Street never ever
I do agree....but damn....he killed it on the 5150 tour with VH a few years later. Saw them at the “Live Without a Net” show in New Haven...they blew the roof off!
Van Halen needed him and they became his new backing band
@@daneph this jerk off made a comment in your little comment thing he said send me look like a dog so I made I went into his little thing and I said I bet you look like a dork b****
I was there to, backstage. My girlfriend's Dad drove the bus for Sammy, her brother for Night Ranger. Rode around on the bus after the show for 'Torch's' birthday.
Absolutely knocked it out of the park. Gary went to the band 'Boston'.
such a impressive song catalog that folks may overlook
I saw him on this tour when they played in Baltimore. As I recall Aldo Nova was the opening act
This was my very first rock concert, March 13, 1983, back in the days when artists made albums good enough to justify playing the entire album in their show. That says alot when you consider the music he had already made. Nice seeing this show again. Night Ranger opened this, and they were awesome too.
Was the car for one of his songs?
Yes, pretty much his entire album called Reckless…but specifically a song called Trans AM on it 👍😎🤘
I was there also!!
@@alritehamilton I was 28th row . I was 14 years old
I saw this show, I was a Junior in High School, those were the days! party and the music scene!! Fun!
damn, i forgot how good a guitar player he is. thx - thumbed it up!
I Was There! 🤘😍
