You are the ONLY reactor that actually thought of the sus situation of “Why did Robin’s dad have the key to Marian’s chastity belt?” 😂 Why indeed? Ha ha… maybe Robin’s dad made some weird deal with Marian’s dad. Arranged marriages were common back then. But that makes too much sense. Probably it was just funny as hell. 😂

In general, this movie lampoons the legend of Robin Hood. _Specifically,_ though, it lampoons the movie _Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves,_ which came out two years _prior._ It had Kevin Costner in the title role. That's what this movie was alluding to when Prince John asked Robin Hood, "Why should the people follow _you?"_ and Robin replied, "Because unlike some _other_ Robin Hoods, _I_ speak with an English _accent."_
It wasn't until I heard that line that it occurred to me that Kevin Costner's Robin Hood spoke with an _American_ accent, all through the _movie._ Apparently, his best efforts at a convincing _English_ accent were _so_ tragic, they just told him not to bother.

The "Walk this way" gag has appeared in several Mel Brooks' movie, like "Young Frankenstein" and "History of the World: Part 1" The scene in the movie "Young Frankenstein" was the inspiration for the Aerosmith song "Walk This Way", also the part where the Sheriff asks Prince John, "Wasn't your mole on the other side" and John acts surprised and says "I have a mole?" was a reference to a scene in "Young Frankenstein" where Dr. Frankenstein says to Igor "I can do something about that hump" and Igor says "What hump?" This film contains references to several movies. These are the one I know of:
    Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves
    The Godfather
    White Men Can't Jump
    Blazing Saddles

What I don't understand, is why you would tell her about things she may not have seen before. I mean, what if she hadn't just watched YF on this very day ??? You need to be careful about talking about anything outside the reaction she's doing, unless you KNOW she's already seen it because, you may be giving out spoilers, which is just wrong ... and remember, there are people reading these comment too, and they might have seen them yet either.
Why would she bother to watch anything once you've told her about them ??? I implore you, just stick to commenting on the reaction you came here to see, other reactions she's done or movies she has told you she's already seen. Even if she doesn't realize it at the time of your comment, spoilers WILL alter her perception and enjoyment of those things you are discussing, and also that affects OUR enjoyment.

You have to keep in mind that most of this movie is a parody of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Which came out two years earlier in 1991. So there are a lot of characters and scenes that are direct parodies of that movie. Beyond that, it's just another great Mel Brooks comedy.

This is a spoof of Kevin Costner's "Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves" movie ... which is made abundantly clear in the opening credits when they torch the village.
There is also a rather brilliant [because "most realistic"] TV series called "Robin of Sherwood", which has the main core stories of Robin Hood, but then merges it with ancient mythology (Herne the Hunter) and also "real magic" and devil worshippers. That series took the "foreigner in the band of thieves" theme too (except it wasnt really a foreign actor who played the "arab").

Glad you liked it! If you haven't seen it I recommend the class The Princess Bride that is a fantasy comedy starring the man who played Robin in this (Cary Elwes). The sword fight brought it to mind because I'd bizarrely never made the connection to his having done a sword fight before this film until watching your reaction today (spoiler, sorry, there's a sword fight in TPB haha). That is just so weird since I've known and loved and rewatched TPB since my teens.
Oh, and just realized since I just watched your two Star Wars reactions: the same trainer was used for the lightsaber and sword fights in Star Wars and The Princess Bride.
Neat little line up of connections there. Huh.
I don't feel this film is Mel Brooks's best parody but it's super cute and gives me some grins. It was a lot of fun seeing you discover it and have a good time!

Not sure what your knowledge is, but a very easy joke to miss towards the end of the film, is something most people will never get unless they were born in the 70s or 80s or earlier, unless they were into military history. In the archery contest the second arrow Robin shoots, if you pay attention and they do hold it for a few seconds, has the word Patriot on it,. This is a reference to the first Iraq/Gulf war where Iraq invaded Kuwait in the early 90s. The Americans had a new missile called the Patriot missile, which had the smartest targetin via techniology the owrld had seen to date.

"It IS the key to the greatest treasure in all the land!" That's why I love Mel Brooks movies. He'll satirize everything, including the misogyny of most movies. Blazing Saddles dealt with racism, the Producers (original and especially the remake) dealt with homophobia and more racism, and this one deals with sexism and homophobia. You don't see comedy today dealing with sensitive issues very often. Everyone's afraid to offend someone. There's a difference between a joke or a roast designed to have a sense of humour about something and someone who is seriously being racist, sexist or homophobic. I think we've forgotten how to tell the difference now and either it's a right wing PureFlix movie that is designed to offend everyone intentionally, or the other side that is too afraid to even tell a joke.

    You left out 3 of my favorite scenes;
    Sheriff: That's a wild bore!
Robin: No, it a wild pig. [points at Prince John] That's a wild bore.
    The Horse and balcony scene
    And the Arrow Wave

Just riddle me this, Nia: *_What is the meaning of life?_*
Answer: procreation and the preservation of the species ... and your expressed feminist opinions go against that. You can have them ... but dont expect respect for them.

It’s men in tights… I don’t think anything in this movie is to be taken that seriously…

You don't need a man .wait till your 35 or 40 and childless alone. Your courier has not brought you any truth fulfilment. I've heard from many feminist who are 60 years old and truly regret the lies they were told. And wish they could take it all back. Wish they had told their younger selves To value men to love and respect them.

I'm 40. Childless, with many good friends. I think I'm good without a guy.
