I saw this so many times in theatres when I was a kid. My Dad and loved it so much. My friends and coworkers can't stand how much I pun and I blame this movie and my Dad for it.
L'eggs brand pantyhose used to come packaged in plastic eggs like the plastic Easter eggs, which is why you see Little John handing out the tights that way. The sent the villagers a message by fox because fax wasn't invented yet. "Hey Abbot" was how Costello would call out to his straight man partner in that very voice in the old Abbott and Costello comedy movies. Take a close look - the witch's pill that saved the sheriff's life is an actual Life Saver candy, probably peppermint. (It looks like my knowledge of old trivia stuff is betraying my age.)
Mel Brooks himself said that while Blazing Saddles was his funniest movie, Young Frankenstein was his best. The Producers is my favorite personally. They're both must-watch imo. I was tickled to see you react to Picard at the end lol
I really enjoyed this reaction, Jen. If you want to see Patrick Stewart in an earlier film why not react to 'Excalibur', it's a great version of the King Arthur story.
@@e.d.2096 Thanks Eric, I hope that she does do it, it's a great film and I don't think that anyone has reacted to it yet on TH-cam. How are things going with you and your sister?
@@e.d.2096 Sorry for the delay in replying, Eric. I was just 'lending an ear' to a female friend who is going through a break-up. I'm fine thank you for asking. I'm glad to hear that things are going well with you too.
It always impresses me, how you are able to deeply cut these films, but still leave enough in, so that you can still follow the story. I'd say that this film is one of my favorites. It seems maybe a bit more refined, than some, since a lot of his films, since Blazing Saddles seem a bit more like a collection of skits, than an actual production. A lot of his films have musical numbers. This one is no exception. Spaceballs is one of the exceptions. It's also where you've likely seen the abbot. The one thing about Brooks movies is that occasionally, you will get a REALLY dated and obscure reference. For instance, there is someone in the crowd that is trying to get the abbot's attention. Even at the time, it would likely not have been caught by most viewers, unless they had seen few of the early Abbot and Costello movie, or the cartoon with them in it. Anyway, I'm glad you got around to this one. It's always a favorite, when I want to see something lighthearted. Also, unlike many Brooks films, it's relatively clean & PG, with a bit of innuendo that would likely go over the majority of younglings heads - at least the ones, when it was originally released.
I used to love watching this movie as a kid. I remember saying oh that's the guy from "Princess Bride. I grew watching 80's and 90's movies in a big TV in bedroom as kid alone because I was sick a lot and was not in school. I can't wait to enjoy this fun experience with you "Jen✨️👏
I was so looking forward to this, and it did not disappoint. I swear it seems to me like you and Cassie from Popcorn in Bed made sure to watch "Prince of Thieves" beforehand, but so many other channels ended up watching Men in Tights without context. And the fact that you're also doing TNG right now made for even more serendipity there... I have definitely heard that Roger Rees (the Sherriff) needed fencing training for the Big Fight Scene, but Cary Elwes didn't because he was pretty much a pro after The Princess Bride.
Aw you edited out the best line: "'E SPLIT ROBIN'S ARROW IN TWAINE-A!" I don't know who that guy is or where he is now in life - probably scraping guac onto a sandwich at a Jimmy John's somewhere - but once he made me laugh harder than I've probably ever laughed in my life. The delivery of that line is freaking perfect.
Good time at Jen's Place! Yes I think you will definitely enjoy this one. Hope it was a good time and thanks! Yeah, Young Frankenstein should be on the see soon list!
That "tomahawk chop" move the audience were doing is something that has been done by the fans of some sports teams in the US, historically. For example, it was done for the Atlanta Braves major league baseball team, especially around this era. This is not the first example, but it is one of the most famous, and was contemporary with this movie.
The "Hey, Abbott!!" joke is a reference to the 1930's-40's comedy duo Abbott and Costello. "Hey Abbott!!" was one of Costello's signature lines and is a great add-in for anyone speaking to an abbot, as rare as those are these days.
Glad you enjoyed this one, Jen. because I really like it too. two other of Mel Brook's best films, are History of the World Part 1 & Dracula: Dead & Loving It. :)
"Young Frankenstein" is an absolute favorite... "The Producers" is one of his classics as well (the original with Gene Wilder) - the stage production of this was really fun, but it didn't translate in the best of ways to the motion picture screen (but it's still enjoyable) "Blazing Saddles" is the third in the Mel Brooks must-see trifecta ... most of the rest are spoof style comedies like Spaceballs, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Dracula: Dead and Loving It. And they've all got great moments... but I think he did his best work prior to the 80's
First time I saw this, I assume when it came out, as a 10 year old… when little John is screaming thinking he’s drowning, it was the funniest thing I’ve ever seen.
"The Producers" and "Young Frankenstein" are absolutely worth seeing. The Producers is not this level of silly, but it's still definitely a comedy (a great one).
The Sheriff being dragged off by Latrine at the end while screaming, "Wait! I've changed my mind!" and then crying out is one of my favorite lines that didn't make the edit.
😂 this was my first Mel Books movie i saw on old vhs tape my Aunt let me and my cousins watch MIT is my 2nd favorite Mel Brooks film after Young Frankinstein …please watch that movie next ❤
Totally rad reaction Jen! I'm probably in the minority on this and it's only because I'm such a Star Trek fan but I like Patrick Stewart more than Sean Connery also (BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN I DON'T LIKE Connery at all.....far from it). I absolutely want you to watch "Young Frankenstein" but you have to watch "Frankenstein " and "The Bride of Frankenstein " before to get most of the parody references. My top Mel Brooks movies: 1. Young Frankenstein 2. Spaceballs 3. Robin Hood: Men In Tights 4. Blazing Saddles 5. History Of The World Part 1 Keep up these great reactions! Many blessings to you and yours!
Patrick Stewart showing up as King Richard is a bit of a homage to Sean Connery's cameo as King Richard in 'Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves', where an actor who had previously portrayed Robin Hood shows up as King Richard in a later movie (Sean Connery had played Robin Hood in the 1976 movie 'Robin & Marion). In Patrick Stewart's case, in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode 'Qpid', he, as Captain Picard, was forced by Q to play the role of Robin Hood in order to rescue a woman named Vash, who he had met & fallen in love with in a previous episode.
Blazing Saddles is my favorite Mel Brooks. With Young Frankenstein in 2nd, then History of the World, The Producers, Men in Tights, Spaceballs. I know there's a few others but nobody brings them up for a reason.
Patrick Stewart was doing his best (or worst) Sean Connery impression appearing as King Richard. Supposedly they wanted to get Connery to appear in this, but his asking price was more than what they were willing to pay him.
Notice the magic pill to save his life is a Life Saver. Yes, that is Patrick Stewart doing a Sean Connery impression. Apparently, Brooks originally wanted Connery, but he declined. So Stewart came in and did it as Connery. I personally feel the number one slot is shared by Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein. This was actually Dave Chappelle's first film.
A Mel Brooks movie is always a treat, even if you've seen it before. The Producers is another very clever comedy from Mel brooks with all the usual actors doing an amazing job, worth watching. Thanks Jen.
Jen, you're the first reactor I've seen who got a good laugh from "We're butch!!" 🤣🤣🤣 Young Frankenstein & The Producers are both top notch Mel Brooks. The Producers is a little more based in reality, it's a satirical take on the Broadway theatre industry, but still very much a comedy. IMO, Young Frankenstein is a shining jewel in Brooks' comedy crown, but then, so is The Producers. ❤Love your channel!❤ ❤Keep channeling!❤😁
Can't go so far as to say I even like this particular movie even though I do love Mel Brooks. These reactions however, never disappoint. Great stuff! Hope the channel grows and grows.
Yes to Young Frankenstein and The Producers, but preferably the newer version of The Producers, with Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick. Naturally not everyone will agree original or new. I like the new version. Mel Brooks took something really good and years later improved upon it while adapting it to the stage and later that version being adapted back to a movie.

There was a rich man from Nottingham who tried to cross the river. What a dope, the tripped on a rope. Now look at him shiver!
I saw this so many times in theatres when I was a kid. My Dad and loved it so much. My friends and coworkers can't stand how much I pun and I blame this movie and my Dad for it.
"OVER THAT BOY HAND!" 😂😂😂😂
L'eggs brand pantyhose used to come packaged in plastic eggs like the plastic Easter eggs, which is why you see Little John handing out the tights that way.
The sent the villagers a message by fox because fax wasn't invented yet.
"Hey Abbot" was how Costello would call out to his straight man partner in that very voice in the old Abbott and Costello comedy movies.
Take a close look - the witch's pill that saved the sheriff's life is an actual Life Saver candy, probably peppermint.
(It looks like my knowledge of old trivia stuff is betraying my age.)
The fox was also a pun of 20th century fox, the Movie company
Mel Brooks himself said that while Blazing Saddles was his funniest movie, Young Frankenstein was his best. The Producers is my favorite personally. They're both must-watch imo. I was tickled to see you react to Picard at the end lol
My favorite Mel Brooks' comedy ever - History of the World: Part I (1981)
Same 🥰
The hangman was played by the same actor who played the hangman in Blazing Saddles.
I've probably watched this and the later remake of The Producers the most. I've watched all of his comedies several times though.
So many nostalgic fun I really love. This was very enjoyable to watch with you "Jen. Oh my goodness. I hope you have a wonderful relaxing weekend.
I really enjoyed this reaction, Jen. If you want to see Patrick Stewart in an earlier film why not react to 'Excalibur', it's a great version of the King Arthur story.
Hi Adam, saw that one once. A long time ago. Great recommendation 👍
@@e.d.2096 Thanks Eric, I hope that she does do it, it's a great film and I don't think that anyone has reacted to it yet on TH-cam.
How are things going with you and your sister?
@@Adam_Le-Roi_Davis. Everything is fine on my end, how are things with you?
@@e.d.2096 Sorry for the delay in replying, Eric. I was just 'lending an ear' to a female friend who is going through a break-up. I'm fine thank you for asking. I'm glad to hear that things are going well with you too.
Man "Waterworld" and "Robin Hood"!! Loving this week's reactions!! ❤
My friends and I used to quote this A LOT!! Including singing the "Men in tights" song.
One of my favorite Mel Brooks comedies, I cried with laughter when I first watched it as a kid. Still have it on my VHS :) You will enjoy this movie.
Had a blast seeing this in the cinemas as a kid, and it's one of my favorite Robin Hood movies. Glad you enjoyed it!
I have definitely heard that Roger Rees (the Sherriff) needed fencing training for the Big Fight Scene, but Cary Elwes didn't because he was pretty much a pro after The Princess Bride.
the only other thing i know Rees from is Cheers, no real reason for fight training there
Aw you edited out the best line: "'E SPLIT ROBIN'S ARROW IN TWAINE-A!" I don't know who that guy is or where he is now in life - probably scraping guac onto a sandwich at a Jimmy John's somewhere - but once he made me laugh harder than I've probably ever laughed in my life. The delivery of that line is freaking perfect.
Young Frankenstein and History Of The World part 1 are must watches. I think you'd love those two in particular. Love your channel, Jen.
Good time at Jen's Place! Yes I think you will definitely enjoy this one. Hope it was a good time and thanks! Yeah, Young Frankenstein should be on the see soon list!
Awww... the best line in the entire movie and you didn't clip it. "King illegal forest to pig wild kill in it a is!" ... Cracks me up everytime!
Short notice... the STEPHEN KING movie called DELORES CLAIBORNE is a huge Solar Eclipse movie. Perfect for posting on Monday.
"Young Frankenstein" is an absolute favorite... "The Producers" is one of his classics as well (the original with Gene Wilder) - the stage production of this was really fun, but it didn't translate in the best of ways to the motion picture screen (but it's still enjoyable)
"Blazing Saddles" is the third in the Mel Brooks must-see trifecta ... most of the rest are spoof style comedies like Spaceballs, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Dracula: Dead and Loving It. And they've all got great moments... but I think he did his best work prior to the 80's
Blazing Saddles is what he's most known for but, The Producers is just as wonderful.
Latrine cracks me up, every time, Tracy Ulman was amazing in that role.
2 things u missed. The hangman was the same guy from Blazing Saddles and the king's mole kept moving around on his face thru the movie.
And this was a spoof of Igor's hump shifting from side to side in Young Frankenstein.
The Sheriff being dragged off by Latrine at the end while screaming, "Wait! I've changed my mind!" and then crying out is one of my favorite lines that didn't make the edit.
😂 this was my first Mel Books movie i saw on old vhs tape my Aunt let me and my cousins watch
MIT is my 2nd favorite Mel Brooks film after Young Frankinstein …please watch that movie next ❤
"What part of Georgia are you from? South-central?"
*Blows on the daggers*
Totally rad reaction Jen!
I'm probably in the minority on this and it's only because I'm such a Star Trek fan but I like Patrick Stewart more than Sean Connery also (BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN I DON'T LIKE Connery at all.....far from it).
I absolutely want you to watch "Young Frankenstein" but you have to watch "Frankenstein " and "The Bride of Frankenstein " before to get most of the parody references.
My top Mel Brooks movies:
1. Young Frankenstein
2. Spaceballs
3. Robin Hood: Men In Tights
4. Blazing Saddles
5. History Of The World Part 1
Keep up these great reactions!
Many blessings to you and yours!
Thanks bradley! Looking forward to more Mel Brooks!
Imagine when Sir Patrick Stewart is your second choice for a role!
The running joke was Prince Johns mole which moved in every scene
He got a mole?
A Mel Brooks movie is always a treat, even if you've seen it before. The Producers is another very clever comedy from Mel brooks with all the usual actors doing an amazing job, worth watching. Thanks Jen.
Jen, you're the first reactor I've seen who got a good laugh from "We're butch!!" 🤣🤣🤣
Young Frankenstein & The Producers are both top notch Mel Brooks. The Producers is a little more based in reality, it's a satirical take on the Broadway theatre industry, but still very much a comedy. IMO, Young Frankenstein is a shining jewel in Brooks' comedy crown, but then, so is The Producers.
❤Love your channel!❤
❤Keep channeling!❤😁
Can't go so far as to say I even like this particular movie even though I do love Mel Brooks. These reactions however, never disappoint. Great stuff! Hope the channel grows and grows.
Thanks! ☺️👍
I used to play the heralds trumpets in the Renaissance fair in high school to make extra money. Had to wear tights. It was quite an experience 😮
Years before (in the 70’s), Mel Brooks did a tv show When Things Were Rotten. It was about Robin Hood. It lasted 1 season.
"Dead and Loving It" is probably my favorite Mel Brooks film.
Hi Jen ,, Robin entering the hall with the Boar on his back is a parody of the scene in the 1938 film "The Adventures of Robin Hood" in which Robin Hood (Errol Flynn with a deer on his back) Crashes the Barons Banquet at Nottingham castle hosted by prince John & Sir Guy of Gisbourne , you should give this Movie a watch , the musical score for the film is magic , Hollywood at its very best ...
So, I feel like I can act out every line of this movie from start to finish lol. Fun flick, lot of good one liners!
