From IMDB : Rumor has it that Kevin Costner wanted to use an English accent, but Kevin Reynolds didn't want him to. Supposedly, Costner would affect the accent when he was arguing with Reynolds, but not when they were in agreement. Costner claims that he was initially asked to use an accent and hired a dialect coach, but this was stopped (and the coach was fired) when he did it poorly.

Here in the UK we have a similar shaped mint called a Polo mint.
This movie is a satire in general of the legend of Robin Hood but it definitely focuses on the Disney, Kevin Costner, and Errol Flynn versions. Glad you enjoyed it! This was my favorite Robin Hood movie growing up!

Patrick Stewart playing King Richard with a scottish accent is a reference to Sean Connery's cameo in Prince of Thieves as King Richard.

They both previously played Robin Hood, in a way. Sean Connery was in a movie called Robin and Marian. Patrick Stewart played Captain Picard who played Robin Hood in a Q scenario in an episode of Star Trek TNG.

Just in case somebody hasn't writen it down yet: The screaming child with the "I have to go home alone" line is a reference to the poster/cover of the first Home Alone movie.
11:00 - It's a 90's pop culture reference. This movie came out after Home Alone (1990) and it was a nod to Macauley Culkin's signature running and screaming in the movie.

The reason the story starts in Jerusalem is Robin Hood was fighting with Richard the Lionheart during the Third Crusade who fought against sultan Saladin, this is the 20th-century addition to the Robin Hood legend. Adding a Saracen to the Merry men was first done in my favourite adaptation in the 1984 ITV Robin of Sherwood with a trend that began with Nasir. Asneeze or Ahchoo continues this tradition

Cary Elwes was supposed to play Robin Hood in Prince of Thieves but he turned it down. He previously appeared as the antagonist character in Hot Shots!, a spoof on Top Gun directed by Jim Abrahams, one of the writers of Airplane! and The Naked Gun.

It was such a weird fad! I remember begging my mom to get me a pair of Reebok pumps in 1991 or 1992 when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade. I eventually got what I wanted, but I grew out of them in like 6 months.

one of the main things with this is it came out not long after the robin hood: prince of thieves movie which is what a lot of the digs in this are about.
I'd love for someone to react to Dracula Dead and Loving It. Not the classic Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles was, but I think its Mel Brooks' most under appreciated film and I've always had a soft spot for it.

Another good medieval comedy is The Court Jester. It's a much older movie, but it's pretty funny. Not to mention, proof that Angela Lansbury was quite attractive in her day.

Actually this is a spoof of another Robin Hood movie made around the same time called Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves made by Warner Bros. You should check it out sometime if you haven't seen it either 😎

"Fox 'em" parody of *"Fax 'em"* - faxes were rather more of a thing in '93. While it's held up well, several jokes are now too period specific.
A lot of the movie is a parody of Kevin Costner's Robin Hood movie, a couple of years before.
Patrick Stewart as King Richard: They originally wanted Sean Connery, but he declined. So they got Patrick Stewart...who then proceeded to play it *like* Sean Connery.
And, yes, you do need to watch Blazing Saddles, and Young Frankenstein, and...

First time watching your channel of reactions and I am very pleased with your rendition. This is probably the fifth reaction to Robin Hood: Men in Tights I've seen and it was by far the best because you let portions of the movie run through the jokes while others would edit them out. You did have some edits that did stop some jokes but again you did better than most. I understand the copyright length, but some people don't use the full amount of time to show. I look forward to your future and past reactions.

new movies are not always that good, old movies are mostly good, maybe corny, but good. the 80's had the best movies.
This film is a direct parody of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, starring Kevin Costner. I'm sorry if I missed it in this reaction, but if you haven't already seen that movie, you really need to. This film has a TON of references and jokes that relate directly to RH:PoT.

I know this a comedy version of Robin Hood which I still like this movie because it's hilarious and funny but I have one issue about the version of Maid Marian wearing a iron belt. I mean how on earth Maid Marian manage to have a toilet with that belt on and while still locked.

Great video! If you want a more modern comedy try Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, its kind of a spoof of teenage horror movies. Or for a more serious but heartfelt film check out Train to Busan.

The big guy who played Little John also played Thor in the 1988 Made for TV movie The Incredible Hulk Returns.
To me 1993 seems comparatively recent but that's from the perspective of being 53 years old myself. To me, the movies that seem old are like say, the original Robin Hood with Errol Flynn and Olivia DeHaviland from 1939 or Frankenstein, Dracula, etc from 1931. Not that I don't love them, I do. The age of a film really has no meaning to me as the movies I like just seem "timeless". I'd like to see your reaction to Dracula: Dead And Lovig It! Your voice sounded so familiar to me and it dawned on me why. Have you ever seen the Mummy with Brendan Fraser? Your voice sounds like Rachel Weisz's character "Evelyn Carnahan" from that film. I think I could listen to your reactions all day, lol.

Great reaction! You definitely need to cycle through the big Mel Brooks films (blazing saddles, space balls, young frankenstein, and history of the world part 1). I also recommend going back to Naked Gun 2 1/2 and 33 1/3 if you run out of suggestions (which I doubt you will).

Why do people forget about Mel Brooks, High Anxiety. It's 10 times better than Robin Hood, Men in Tights, History of the World, and Dracula, Dead and Loving it. A loving homage to Alfred Hitchcock movies with a stellar cast of comedic actors, Madeleine Kahn, Cloris Leachman, and Harvey Korman along with Mel Brooks. In my opinion, Brooks's best 5 films in order are 1. Young Frankenstein 2. Blazing Saddles. 3. High Anxiety. 4. Silent Movie. 5. Spaceballs.

Hi new subscriber here and it's great to find a fellow Brit who reacts I've not found many on here, anyway really enjoyed this reaction saw this film when it first came out very funny film, if you didn't know Cary Elwes who played Robin is English which is why his accent was so good, anyway as for film recommendations it depends what you want to watch do you want Sci-Fi horror films like ones from the Alien or Predator franchise or just Sci-Fi films like Star Wars original trilogy and original Star Trek films, or maybe a psychological thriller like Silence of the Lambs or stick with comedies like the Naked Gun films, but it's your channel and your choice.

If you liked Mark Blankfield, the actor who played Blinken here, he also plays a small role in Dracula: Dead and Loving It and he stars in an early 1980s comedic take on Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde called "Jeckyll and Hyde: Together Again" (though that one has a lot of jokes in it that would be considered dark today)
