      Ruby was too ahead of his time. When the movie came out most moviegoers had a negative reaction to the character. Kind of like Jar Jar Binks. It is strange how the character appears to audiences now, with the passing of time, he seems quite timely by today's standards for pop entertainment.

    the sing the diva sings was designed to be basically impossible for a human to sing. it was song by a Moldovan opera singer and then electronically altered.... however recently several opera singers have managed to actually pull of the diva dance song. most notably and incredibly dimash kudaibergen (a male vocalist) managed it. it and he are definitely worth checking out he's an abnormal vocalist

    • @SpearM3064
      @SpearM3064 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@NiaMakiReacts Well... the actual singer (not the actress who was just lip syncing) sang each note in isolation (meaning she sang one note at a time), then they sequenced it digitally. They didn't actually _alter_ it per se, but unfortunately it sounds like they did (but they didn't. It's just an artifact of using a computer to put the notes in the correct sequence.)

    • @raphaelperry8159
      @raphaelperry8159 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It was intended for it to be impossible for a human voice to change pitch as quickly as the diva does in this song with the low and high notes being very far apart. The electronic alteration was to bridge those inhuman gaps to give the piece an alien and otherworldly quality.

    "Are you classified as human?"
    "Negative, I am a meat popsicle."
    This is such a brilliant line. As a writer, I wish I came up with it first.
    Fun Fact: The hero, Korben Dallas, and the villain, Jean Baptiste Emanuel Zorg, never meet, nor do they communicate with each other in any way. They are aware of each other (Korben used to work for Zorg's company, and Zorg knows that Korben won the contest) but they are unaware of the other's involvement in the main plot (getting the stones). The only time they appear in the same scene together is at the end when Korben flees towards Fhloston's hotel's hangar while Zorg is just returning from it. They pass but just miss one another putting them in the same shot together for just a few frames.
    Bonus Fact: The explosion in the Fhloston main hall was the largest indoor explosion ever filmed. The resulting fire almost went beyond control. It took twenty-five minutes to put out.

    • @NiaMakiReacts

    • @Mithalraman
      @Mithalraman 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@NiaMakiReactsThe line is brilliant because when you consider the complete lack of response by the police to the smartarse comment, that implies that being a meat popsicle is a legitimate answer. Perhaps being slang for being cryogenic frozen at some point, and for some reason that puts you in a different legal category than 'human'.

    Fun Fact about the Diva, shes played by two different people, her singing voice is an opera singer Albanian Singer Inva Mula while the actress on screen is Maiwenn a French Film star film maker, who was engaged to the director for this film. Luc Besson wanted her to act for the Diva and she told him, no joke that if she plays this part they can't be together because it would taint their love working with him. So he got a German Super model to audition for the role but sadly she never showed on the day they had to build the costume for her for testing. So Maiwenn reluctantly took on the role of The Diva because she wanted to help her fiance. Sadly however Luc Besson working with Mila Jovovich sparked a relationship between them and sadly he ended his relationship with Maiwenn after this film and married Mila. So Maiwenn loved the role of the Diva but the film became a tragedy for her as the film lead to the end of her engagement with Luc Besson.

    The fifth element is a cool movie. But what really makes me admire this movie is the supreme level of world-building. It's like watching a live-action Anime. The density of new york city as Bruce Willis drives his cab is breathtaking. The main and background elements at Fhloston Paradise are amazing. Many parts of the movie are quite cheesy, especially the president and his team, but so many of the concepts were mind-blowing as well.

      @@NiaMakiReacts Yeah, same. Lol, that's why all of his outfits are how they are, but honestly, I've seen Prince's movies and I don't think as an actor that he has the energy or comedic timing that Chris has that made RR so good, plus Prince is so diva Ithink he would've tried to change the character somehow to say he had some sort of control over the film in a way that it would've probably ruined it. I love Prince's music and my mom is his biggest fan (she sleeps with a giant Prince blanket and has all of his movies lol), but I don't think he would've done well in this role.

    26:50 "Was this a real voice?" The "diva dance" song is partly (the first bit) from an opera and the second part was written to be "unsingable" ... but there are a handful of singers who managed to do it / come close to doing it.

    "The perfect being" she was originally like all of the stones, she was just the fifth element and they with their ultimate technology decised to use the DNA of the surviving pieces of the statue to create a synthetic human, they gave the fifth element human shape and that's why she was born being able to speak another ancient language and great knowledge. That's the explanation of what happened at the beginning

    In 1914 you absolutely *could* use a camera and snap pictures - the first Kodak Brownie had been out since 1900. People think that long dureation exposures was a thing for a long time - it wasn't. Once they knew what they were trying to do technology moved *fast*.
    However it was normal to use an artist on archaeological digs, probably because it was just cheaper and easier.

    Yes, the voice for the Diva was real. The film's subtitles you had on provided the singer's name and what that part of the opera's called. While the voice was real, there was some slight editing since Inva Mula Tchako stated that certain parts were humanely impossible. I think she recorded certain notes separately then was edited together in a quicker succession to achieve the Diva's voice. The Diva herself however was played by a different actress.

    Alien/machines thing is its own species. Lee loo is a perfect being herself. She was brought back to life through cloning. Scientifically, genetically, etc, she's built different. Her purpose is to stand in the center of the activated 4 elements, tilt her head back with her mouth open and as a human representation of what is the 5th element she is effectively a defensive weapon to neutralize a certain type of evil. (The hint to how she's supposed to do it versus her being held by Korben Dallas is in the beginning where they grabbed the stones. It showed a standing human figured with head tilted, mouth opened)
    Side note. Her language was entirely made up for this movie.
    Edit: Yes, love. She needed some type of hope, love, optimism, etc to hang onto to emit the defensive white beam of energy. Had she slipped into despair, hatred, etc. she would've caused the end of the world/universe with her beam.(likely a black bean of energy)
