I use to see Amish people from a distance....and liked them . I didnt even have to talk to them. Then one day a Amish man came up to help me when my car wouldnt start. Nobody else offered to. He was so smart and fixed my car easily. He knew exactly what to do. He was so kind and respectful. Just as I had always thought they were. I dont know everything about them but still like them!! I'd love to spend a few hours with them to know more! I am that impressed!

I’m a cult survivor. Finally got out 5 years ago after being in it my entire life … I’m 60 now .. and raised my family in it as did my parents with myself and my siblings. My mom finally left my dad & us when she was 60, and for the next 23 years, we were not allowed to contact her ever. I finally couldn’t stand it anymore. She set a wonderful example for us all, that no human should ever have to be, or allow themselves to be controlled by another human!! It is wrong, and it leaves deep scars which may or may not heal. Impressive documentary . My babysitter was Amish , I was blessed to live with her family during the week as my father worked . My mother was frequently ill and in hospital . From a very young age I was accepted by their “community” . Although I was not “full amish “ to this day I consider it a blessing to have been able to partake in this lifestyle . Much gained and learned . I now still today feel more comfortable in dresses and with long hair . I made all of my childrens clothes , and am bilingual . My own family grew up going to farmers markets and eating farm fresh eggs , gardening our own herbs and vegetables. No cable , yes in the church . Pennsylvania Dutch and my second business is a seamstress quilter out of my home . When I needed to discipline my children they wrote Bible verses & yes they are a gift from God always no matter what their age is ! Thank you for posting this , very accurate and many memories .

    • @rockman4952
      @rockman4952 ปีที่แล้ว

@@obe3690 The punishment is a positive thing. It would be to either read and write specific Bible verses that relate to why they are being punished. Or require them to find verses relating to their improper behavior. That reinforces why they shouldn't do what they had done. It is lot like the "I will not do x again." 25 times on the black board, punishment of old.

What really impresses me is how, while the primary world civilization has culturally overtaken so many thousands of tribes and villages to create such a homogenous, mainstream global society, that smaller cultures like the Amish manage to thrive not only within the geographical boundaries of the heartlands, but so interwoven with the life of the surrounding culture, all while managing to retain such distinct ways of life. It seems many are unable to avoid the push to move forward at the pace set by societal standards of advancement, yet it's likely in the strength of distinct community that the Amish are able to go on in their own way. Surely we can learn a lot from them about how we might be more sensible about sustaining cultural sensibility.

By the time I was born in 1963 the memories and stories were long left behind never to be shared with me and my siblings. I would have liked to know about my heritage, but everyone has passed on and I am left with an empty book. Not sure how my life would be today if they had chosen to stay. It is often not good to over- idealize any community or a group, nor a person!
There is lots of good in the Amish community! However, there is also unspoken darkness!
Are u aware or know that there are very serious issues in the Amish Communities , such as an incest, pedophilia, sexual abuse, domestic abuse, serious animal abuse, etc!
Also, the Amish have no issues to lie to the Police and to the Judge, kidnap and hide the Children of the woman that had left the Amish, etc etc!
The Amish make all kinds of false promises that they would punish the perpetrator and keep the victims safe and permanently apart! They rarely do what they say!
Unfortunately, the Judges and the police have bought into this idea that Amish are ‘honest and trustworthy’! Of course, but Only when it suits the Amish! The World’s laws are Not the Amish laws! The Amish will not report incest, pedophilic abuse, nor anything ! They may report a murder, though!
Sure, the Amish may punish the husband that beat up his wife or kids! Sure they may punish the brother that raped his sister Or the neighbour that is a pedophilic! For a few weeks or for a few months, these will be disciplined and ostracized! Then, they have to be forgiven!
And if the victim doesn’t forgive, brings up her rape again after the shunning, keeps talking about it, then the victim will be disciplined in the church and shunned herself !!
Oh, and the perpetrator will definitely be living within same household ! Of course, the domestic and the sexual abuse will continue and there is no protection any more, unless the victim calls the police herself! Calling the police is also against the Amish rules!

@@Austin8thGenTexan No of course not all of them, among those suffering from religious insanity there's a few decent people.
I was so lucky being born into the only non-religious family in the middle of a village nicknamed "The Holy Town" in Denmark. 12 houses and 5 different kinds of christianity on our road. My mother hissed "Nonsense" when it came to "God" and religion but that was her only argument. It took me around 60 years to find out fully why she was right and before I realized how easy it is to proove that there's not one god as christianity, islam and judaism claims. About god(s) there's only 3 possibilities, 1) No gods 2) One god 3) More than one god.
In the Middle East many 1000 years ago out-of-Earth beings came flying down from the sky in smoke, fire, lightning and noise that made the ground tremble (As example Moses, Ezekiel, Enoch). The boss of the out-of-Earth beings was named God, (his helpers were called angels).
In the rest of the world many 1000 years ago the same thing happend, out-of-Earth beings came flying down from the sky in smoke, fire, lightning and noise that made the ground tremble. They were called god(s) in India, China, Japan, Africa, Australia, Scandinavia, North-, South- and Middle America, everywhere in the world same thing happend around the same time. And it can't be the same god, as there was more than one god at the time, they even had horrible wars with Star Wars-like weapons.
So it has to be 3) if they all were gods or 1) if none of them were gods. It can't be only one god.
I lean towards 1) No gods because of the behavior of the "gods". Massmurderers. Men, women and children dead by the millions in the most horrible ways. Ethnic cleansing. Blood, guts and fear, horror and slavery is the way of gods. None of them behave god-like.
I put my money on 1), for sure.

I agree. Too many so called journalists, writers, etc. Create pieces of literature (written and filmed/videotaped) with ill-intent. They are neither objective nor fair in their so-called work.
Many are out to just Bash, humiliate, ridicul the said subject, be it a person or group/community. They will throw in a apparent good/positive Part or two in an effort to blow smoke in the viewer's face to put on the illusion that they are being fair across the board. I find that behavior Cowardly to put it mildly. Those individuals have zero integrity.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying just to show the good side, but be respectful and honest about the subject matter. I'm part of a religious community and I'll be the first to say that it's not all blue skies and lilies for every member. We all actually have our faults....I'll be the first that I do. We can just continue to fight to improve, not necessarily for others, although setting a good example is a positive thing, but for God.
I particularly enjoyed how those that left the Amish community, presented thier Objections to the said community in a respectful clear way. I could tell they did not have hate in their heart but voiced their doubts and disagreements properly. Those inside the Amish community and those who have left, both are of much greater character than Most non-Amish individuals in this nation and the rest of the world. If more outsiders had Half the integrity and discipline of the general Amish community, we could be rid of so many issues.
Furthermore, I can see that Time has, in a way, began to slowly "Compress" the values and rules of the Amish community. Like the producer said, the Amish rules, such as the shunning of members, has put them in a spot where, I believe, they are losing some of the focus of God's Word.
We must all learn from others, the good and the bad, less we become that of which we criticize.
May God guide us in his Word, day after day till his return

You've got no idea how close this system/service is to the Catholic Church. In fact I'm positive it's like a "left over" following the reformation. On Sunday Catholics have three scripture readings with the third one always coming from the Gospel the the priest preaches on that Gospel reading. We have opening hymns offertory closing hymns etc. We also have a liturgical calendar which repeats each year. We also have benediction. This format is the closest protestant format I've seen to the traditional Catholic religion including the Gregorian chant. Wonderful.

The story of why her family left the Amish is too terrible to tell here. This video gives outsiders a profound window in what makes Amish life tick. The Amish are NOT the most empathetic people you will ever meet when it comes to animal welfare. They will take care of their horses and cattle only as much as it takes to keep them working and producing. A buggy horse might be tied up for hours in the hot sun with no shade or water, tormented by flies because the owners won’t put fly spray on them. I’ve never seen my neighbors call a veterinarian. If an animal is sick they usually only try some home remedy. Sometimes it works, usually it doesn’t. That applies mostly to horses, cattle, and other livestock. As for cats and dogs, they are not pets. You’ll never see one inside the home or even in a doghouse and they don’t buy dog/cat food for them. They just wander about the place and are expected to feed themselves on whatever they can scrounge up. They find shelter in whatever place they can, whether it is -20 or 95 outside. The Amish will not interact with them by talking to them (other than an order) or petting them. They are never spayed or neutered so you can expect to see litter after litter running around the barnyard. Very few will survive past a year or two. Some buy a dog from a breeder for varmint control. Those are the puppy mills that others have mentioned. I’ve seen one or two of those mills and I can’t imagine a worse place to live. Great Pyrenees and Australian Shepherds are common varmint dogs. And as for outright cruelty, that’s more common than you might think. I’ve seen Amish beat a recalcitrant horse or dog mercilessly. I once saw our neighbor kids tormenting a small kitten while it cried and cried (I never saw that kitten again).

Mr. Graber ….thank you for sharing this very beautiful story about the Amish community. I’m a Christian Brazilian American citizen living in New York City..I always have been fascinated by the Amish way of life…their dedication to religion..hard working people …following the rules religiously…and avoiding mingling with the outside world. I see the children are happy but the adults are kind of sad….I always wonder why the sadness….now I understand why so many good Amish people leave their community…the rules and regulations are to hard to follow and the uncertainty of salvation…who can bare? Jesus Cristo said: I am the way, the truth and the life no one comes to the Father except through me. That’s it ..bay grace we are saved by faith …not by work so we don’t be pride. I deserve mercy ..not sacrifice…Jesus Christ already paid the price for our salvation. You are right my brother in saying..the Amish elders are afraid to let the congregation read the Bible ..interpreting and change their minds. May God bless the Amish people of the world and open their eyes to the free love of Jesus. Thank you for the video…it has been an open eye for me..I still have great admiration for our Amish brothers and sisters 🙌🙏🇧🇷🇺🇸

I was raised very traditional mennonite. The way of life taught me so many values that i will cherish forever, but yes, lots of rules i didnt understand and sometimes no one could really explain.

What I'm fascinated with is their way of life. I know there's much I don't know about, but I love how they come together during harvest season and the barn raising. In my family history, apparently there's Pennsylvania Dutch on my fathers side.
I really love the simple way of life.

The Amish remind me of the Jewish Orthodox in so many ways like, "Religion over Relationship with Jesus and the extreme rules and regulations!"

The problem with your Orthodox Jews is they don't believe Christ is the promised one they're still waiting for the promised one and in doing so they deny him not a good thing!

I really like their simple lifestyle, they keep themselves separated from the modern worldly lifestyle. I think the more you get involved with the world the more likely you'll end up disobeying The God.

1 John 5: 19 / Luke 4: 5-7 / Revelation 16: 14, 16 / John 15: 19 / John 14: 30. Hello Jason! You hit it right on the nose, read these text from the Bible. The ruler that Jesus mentions in the text of John 14:30 listed last above, is not referring to God. Have a good one👋

Thank You for the insite. I grew up Baphtis, switched to Caltholic, after getting married. Had My 1st Communion, with my two children. Worked in the Middle East 3 1/2 years. Understand, Muslims. Now I live in a country 95% Caltholic. Don't know why I said anything...
