Yes, this is my 4th show in a row now. I am learning so much about the history of the churches. Things that I never knew before. I am SO incredibly thankful for Jesus and His Word that we can test everything by. As a Christian with German roots, I understand the importance of learning and knowing Jesus Christ directly through His Word, not man’s word. Each one of these shows that I’ve been watching from this series has brought me to my knees in praise and worship for the TRUTH of our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ being shown through His Word to His people that have not been taught properly through these different branches of the faith. He really does set us free. The truth (that Jesus IS) will always set us FREE from the bondage of man’s traditions. This makes me cry with gratitude to see how He works in the hearts of His people. His love, His truth, His light is just so incredibly beautiful and magnificent! There aren’t words to describe my emotions this morning as I have been enjoying this series. I praise the Lord Jesus Christ for setting the captives FREE. Including me. 🙌💝
The standout of this is how faithful the Amish and ex-Amish tend to be, even when they're pained by their church's teachings. In a world where most Christians probably don't think much about their faith, it clearly is a continual focus even for Amish who have left the Amish Church and discovered assurance of salvation, and salvation by grace. Reading American history (and living today) I've often had the sense that for most American Christians religion came third, after money and politics. But it clearly does not seem this way for the Amish or ex-Amish.
Youve got such a professional documentary style, I really enjoyed it. You should be on TV youve got a real talent as a family to do documentaries. I could listen to your family all day teaching me history.

When men become the gatekeepers to "true faith" cults are the result. Excellent series and focus upon the gospel. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith, not by works so that no man can boast... and born again, NOT of the will of man, but of the will of God.

I’m saddened by the divisions in the churches, since all true believers in Christ and salvation are THE CHuRCH and the Bride of Christ! As a grateful, saved Believer, I’m glad to know we can still bring our story of salvation to others! Thank you and your family for such uplifting stories of faith, and the victories for Christ you’ve shared!

This 5 part series was most interesting. A credit to the Graber family for sharing their story and the stories of other Amish who followed the word of God, and the bible. I enjoyed watching all episodes in an afternoon.
I am English living in Lancaster Pa. Thank you so much for your insight! I had similar struggles in the Lutheran an Catholic churches. I loved legalism when I was younger, but the truth of Jesus and grace saved me! God's grace on your journey! I know he will use this information in some way for his glory!!
I am a Mennonite and for me this episode is the most interesting one. I have heard the history of the anabaptists since early childhood from the Mennonite view. This episode describes the problems of the anabaptists that still are there today. We still always fight each other where we should worship.
I'm not Amish, but I am a believer and a follower of Jesus Christ. There seems to be a spirit of control among the Amish. This spirit is also alive even in the modern day church. This was a very good series...it opened my eyes as well.

Very interesting! I'm a Lutheran so I differ in my beliefs on the sacraments ( Baptism and the Lords Supper) what an amazing period of time! Thank you for a very informative look in a historical sense of how various faiths were formed. It is sad, however that people resorted to imprisoning and murdering others over their religious beliefs when they are supposed to project God's love for each other and lead members to God.
What a wonderful series! I had always had a very idealistic impression of Amish life. I can now only hope and pray that their eyes would be opened to the beautiful and TRUE gospel. I can only pray that their hearts would be opened to hear and receive Jesus as Lord and Savior.
This is a most amazing documentary. My ears and eyes really perked at this episode because of this history going back to Switzerland. I too am of Swiss lineage. I had no idea of the religious history. In my Swiss family there are as many Protestants as Catholics but I never knew of the Reformation years. Well done Mr. Graber!
To me, this is the most valuable part of the series so far. I'm largely impressed by the effort they put into this project. The most comprehensible summary of the history of the Anabaptist movement I have found so far.
I always have interested in the history of the church. I never could find the movement of the Baptist church. I grew up Lutheran and over the years I could only find history on the reformation of Martin Luther. I finely found one based on John Wesley the father of the Methodism church. The Baptist church has been the hardiest to find.
As a life long Lutheran and a Presbyterian and Catholic school teacher, church history has always been interesting to me. I know much of the history but not about the Anabaptists. Thank you. I have family in Switzerland and in Berlin. Our Lutheran family hails from Austria and my Moms family from Denmark. I imagine my ancestors lived in the midst of these religious reformations.

There are many similarities between the Jehovah’s Witnesses and the Amish. One main one is how they keep their members in the group. They use fear. Fear of what will happen if you leave. You will lose all of your family and friends because they will no longer talk to you, or have anything to do with you. You are treated as if you are dead. That is not love.

These series are so exciting representing the amsih better than any movie prior to this in this depth. I had a real burden some years ago that could be done and thought of buying some machinery like thrashing machine and many horse drawn equipment. All I could do was pray because I didn't have the means materially. So I see this as an answer to prayer and knowing some of the brothers and sisters makes it even more special right! Thank you Lord and thank you Joseph and everyone making this possible! I lived in that setting for 28 years and I loved the culture in the most parts. But felt somewhat portrayed by them not teaching me the gospel. My prayers as a young man of 15 and 16 was that I could have a family that could freely talk about Jesus. But the answer to those prayers came some 12 years later.
I know what Mrs Graber means about hearing the wind through the trees and the cowbells. Its an amazing sound … kind of surreal in a way. And my dad didnt tell us those stories … how wonderful for her that she got to experience what her father told her about when she was a little girl.

The best series I have watched in a long time. Brilliant and addictive to watch ! Finally something that a Christian family can watch together that starts a conversation about history and the Bible and what is means to be a Christian according to the Holy Bible ! I LOVE this series. Addictive and wholesome and enriching in so many ways.

I really enjoy this. You brother need to do a Christian TV series. As side note though, it is really important to realize and know that from Constantin times all the way to the reformation there was always a church alive and holding the truth. They have diferent names all throughout Europe. Paulinians, Albigences etc. The name used to identify all those different groups was anabaptist ( re baptizers in latin) They were the one persecuted by the catholic church all those centuries. I'm thankful for their faithfulness and testimony. The Lord Jesus said that the gates of hell will never prevel on His Church, so, the church didn't desappear and start again with the reformation. I have always wondered this. They are such a beautiful people and I was honored to have been able to meet them in person and invited to their church in their home and had them stay at our home in return.
Joseph, I have really enjoyed ‘Breaking the Silence’. I grew up in the Bristol Indiana area and am quite familiar with the Middlebury area. My dad even sells his maple syrup to some of the Amish nearby. This series was so interesting and educational, and really gives me a new perspective on the culture of the Amish people. I have always looked upon the Amish people as religious, devout and Godly, so it is quite a shock to see that people are leaving their flock to actually seek out the truth of Christ and the word of God. It was heartbreaking to listen to some of the stories of ostracization and family struggles that take place int he name of Christianity. I dated a young man who was formerly Amish and he took me to his family’s home for Sunday dinner once. After watching your series, I now wonder how he and I were able to visit with his family. His father had passed, so it was only his Mother, siblings and 101 year old grandfather, who I had a most enjoyable walk and talk with out by their garden. There must have so much more to the story than I was aware of at the time. I look forward to seeing more of your documentaries. Would love to see one on all of the different skills that the Amish have. I know that my father has hired them for different things over the years, such as siding the barn and sawing milling up a large maple stump into planks. And of course there is the Shipshi Sale that we all love to go to. Unrelated to this, one of my fondest memories of the Amish in the area, is when my dad went to talk with the men who were goin to side the barn, I waited in the truck. While I waited, I watched a handful of Amish children roller-skating down the road. Such a sweet sight!
the reason you could visit his home is simple. every church has its own set of rules. one thing to keep in mind, did he actually ever get baptized in the amish church before leaving? if no then he wouldnt have been shunned. that goes for most amish churches in the middlebury area. i used to be amish as well btw hope that helps
I have been following your journey, and have thoroughly enjoyed where it has taken you and your whole family. I really didn’t understand or have any real knowledge of what the Amish believed Biblically, but have come to see a much clearer picture of their beliefs through your documentary. Leaving family and friends must have been so hard on all of you, but finding a personal relationship with Jesus Christ is by far the best for you all. And to see that you have a great mission to reach those you left for Jesus.

So fascinating! I learned so much from this! In researching my family history I have found that some of my ancestors were Anabaptists and were considered radicals. I believe these were some of the first ancestors to come to America.
This separation and breakdown usually occurs when a group focuses on what they don't have in common rather than focus on what they do have in common. It's sad that the Amish have lost their biblical roots in favor of a legalistic focus.
And, one thing I have noticed, when groups focus so much on “What they shouldn’t do” as opposed to,what they should do, that creates a huge imbalance. So, someone’s “holiness” becomes enveloped in “what they avoid doing” instead of loving one another as Jesus loved.
I am enjoying the series I don't know how it showed up on my feed but I needed a little break from the English world. I'm fascinated that you were shunned as a family and yet you still have a huge respect and you did this project with a huge respect for the Amish people. I learned how diverse they are I never knew that I was exposed to the Amish in Maryland and I just thought they were the same everywhere. I also learned the Amish don't read the Bible but they aren't the only people that don't read the Bible. Allegedly the Muslims don't read the Quran. Catholics don't read the Bible or they read the Catholic Bible and have a different idea about Jesus. I learned from your father that there's teaching Christianity with Grace or rules. Being raised Catholic in the old days it was all rules and no love. so it's been a fascinating experience I kind of stepped away from religion not God not Jesus but religion and this was a fascinating way of rethinking things so I thank you for that
Muslim here. Not sure where you heard that we don't read the Quran, but I wanted to correct you - we are all encouraged to read it and live by it. We consider it one of the most blessed actions that we can do. The Arabic language is still living/in use today even though there are numerous spoken dialects.
It is the separation, different religions and sects that is destroying us God's Children. It's really not that difficult, people think because our father gave us freedom of choice that it is difficult and strict. God wants you as you are, broken, weak, it matters not, for Our Heavenly Father Never will turn You away. None of us is without sin, but God gave his only Son to send the message and he was persecuted for ALL our sins, not some but ALL of God's Children, and he who believeth shall live eternally. The simplicity is so overlooked it is so Amazing, just as Father!!! It is in his prayer, one line that is the message, the goal of why we are here. Our mission??? On Earth as it is in Nevaeh, aka Heaven!!! We have much of it backwards because far too often we are living as man thinks we should, but we should live as God sees fit for us to live, and everyone's mission is different. It is not for one man to judge another, God is truly your only judge, and if you are living for his will, not your own, truly loving Your Truth as you understand is also God's will then you know and no one can tell you different and nothing will lead your astray. Don't be a Sheeple!!!! Live your Truth doing God's will, remember this is only a very small mission, one of many that you will gladly take part in for the main mission, on Earth as it is baçk home. 💜💜💜
Catholic here and I second what Ali said. I don’t know where you get the idea that we do not read our bible. And the Catholic bible is just as much bible as protestant.
I am not Muslim but I knew that the Muslims read the Koran, and some Muslims memorize the Koran. Catholics read the Bible and their Bible has additional chapters that the Protestants threw out.
When I first found and watched this series of documentaries about amish, I thought it was going to be very boring... I told myself what's so interesting? After I watched a few minutes of the first episode, I became totally hooked on. I've seen a few other documentaries before Amish culture, but this one is amazing. I'm speechless....I loved it..

Wow! This was absolutely fascinating! What is crazy is I have been to some of these places and never knew this history about the Anabaptist. I literally walked along this river in Bern, Switzerland and never knew about the Anabaptist martyrs. Now I want to go back!
These series are amazing. They are inspirational. We recently visited Lancaster PA and visited " Psalm 23 park" which is owned by an ex Amish man who was shunned because God told him to built the park so people could pray and find comfort for their hurting lives. You should try to make a documentary on his story as part of your series. And welcome to God's family. I love you.

This series is very well done. I’ve learned a lot. I live outside of Lancaster and see Amish all the time. I just assumed they were following the Bible and knew the word well. I was surprised how, over time, they drifted away from it and had their own set of rules and control. But it is true, we all have good intentions but our sin nature will always fight for control. As a MEssianic Jew, I am intrigued as to the similarities..old world and new testament be it Jew or gentile. AMISH OR ORTHIDOX, I recently moved into a community with both Mennonite and Amish and have developed some friendships. The old school in Bothell Faith's are the same. When one comes to reading the Bible they find Christ. Their new life journey composers of appreciate their up bringing but see the need for true reformation 9f the heart...We are also known as "completed Jews"! Our heart goes out to all peoples and their need to be born again as scripture tells us...time is short...we must reach the lost...for there is no Greek or Jew who can earn heaven, but accept the grace of our Christ...Jesus Christ of Lord...our God and King. For live for Him and find our purposed...in Christ alone!

It should never be taken for granted that we in America can freely practice the religion of our choice in our own way. This is not possible in many places or situations. @@kiran-yz8io The UK is turning into a more atheistic country but not necessarily a pro-atheistic country. Many people still believe religion is a good thing. Many people also still believe in a god or gods. There are more religions in the UK then there were 50 years ago. Our British ancestors lived without Jesus and Christianity for a very long time and they gave life to us today. I own a King James Bible and pick it up and read it every now and again and I enjoy it but I’m not a Christian. I have many values that could be considered Christian and I am partly culturally Christian (like most people are in the UK) but religiously speaking I think most of the UK is no longer a majority Christian country. And correct I don’t follow Jesus. I follow Britannia like my parents did and their parents before them.

This series is wonderful so well presented. The Amish clearly have good aspects. What comes out is that it gives a good foundation but the truth of the word makes their belief real as they have a personal relationship with God.
A well done film series. Very interesting. It also reveals another example of how religious belief is a contaminating force in human lives. Creating sub-divisions among people based on their belief, to the point of imprisonment and death, is a contaminant, perpetuated by men in power. I also observe that the filmaker sought only his ancestors from his father's side, and not his mother's. This is an example of patriarchy. And I see that the experts they interviewed were all men. Religion is, above everything, a system of male dominance, male centrality, and male identification. The Gruber family, while escaping a closed punitive system of patriarchy, joined a more open, but still patriarchal, belief system. I still admire them for breaking away and appreciate what I'm learning in this film series.
Excellent episode. As a descendant of Hans Reist/Barbara Ryser, I am very interested in the timing of the efforts by Jacob Ammann to get Hans Reist to adopt the Dortrecht Confession! I believe that Hans Reist eventually moved to Montbeliard and died there in early 1723.
Oh and plus all the traveling the interviews and let's not forget the insane editing that I know had to be done for this documentary had to be hours and hours lol you guys done such an amazing job making this you really did so professionally done and beautiful
I never really understood the Anabaptism, until this video. This really is a fascinating series. But, stepping back and looking at the BIG picture. It has not changed much over the centuries. It's still the same battle that Jesus had when He was here. Worship the Lord or the Law.
Dr Luther did not break from Rome; he was excommunicated. After all, he was trying to reform the R.C. church, not to start a new church. Beautiful series, well done!
I grew up in Old Order German Baptist Church. My maternal grandfather was the lead counsel of the church for over 20 years. My paternal grandparents spoke Pennsylvania Dutch. My dad spoke no English until he started grade school. The fellowship is currently going through a 3rd division in the past 130+ years. Legalism is a big part of these splits. I was never a member of the church due to the legalism issues ie: higher education etc. Thank you for your documentary on the history of the Anabaptist movement.

This has been a wonderful story and so beautifully put together. Thank you. My church also had a lot of persecution when it first began here in America. It's sad that so many people have had to die when all they want is to worship God in the way that they choose to. May God be with you and your family.
Apply this series to all who are stuck in their man-made church. It shows that the real gospel is alive and defies organized religion. The church is spiritual, like the wind as Jesus said. Those who dont learn from history are condemned to repeat it.
The Church is a physical reality. It is organized and it has hierarchy - apostles (bishops), presbyters (priests), and so on. It holds Councils when there are disagreements. It excommunicates disobedient and rebellious members like apostle Paul directed. It celebrates the Eucharist like our Lord Jesus instructed ("do this in remembrance of me"). It forgives sins because our Lord Jesus gave his apostles the power to forgive and uphold sins. And the last but not the least, 1 Timothy 3:15 says that the Church is the pillar and foundation of truth. Which means that if you want the truth gospel without misinterpretation and human errors, the Church is the place to be (and I don't mean church building, I mean the unified body of believers with one Lord, one faith, one baptism....). The Reformation is still the greatest attack on the Church by Satan.

Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head." Why do all the popes pray with their heads covered since the Bible says that to do so is dishonoring Christ? I am a Mennonite and for me this episode is the most interesting one. I have heard the history of the anabaptists since early childhood from the Mennonite view. This episode describes the problems of the anabaptists that still are there today. We still always fight each other where we should worship.
I'm not Amish, but I am a believer and a follower of Jesus Christ. There seems to be a spirit of control among the Amish. This spirit is also alive even in the modern day church. This was a very good series...it opened my eyes as well.

Thank you for a very informative look in a historical sense of how various faiths were formed. It is sad, however that people resorted to imprisoning and murdering others over their religious beliefs when they are supposed to project God's love for each other and lead members to God.
What a wonderful series! I had always had a very idealistic impression of Amish life. I can now only hope and pray that their eyes would be opened to the beautiful and TRUE gospel. I can only pray that their hearts would be opened to hear and receive Jesus as Lord and Savior.

This is a most amazing documentary. My ears and eyes really perked at this episode because of this history going back to Switzerland. I too am of Swiss lineage. I had no idea of the religious history. In my Swiss family there are as many Protestants as Catholics but I never knew of the Reformation years.

I always have interested in the history of the church. I never could find the movement of the Baptist church. I grew up Lutheran and over the years I could only find history on the reformation of Martin Luther. I finely found one based on John Wesley the father of the Methodism church. The Baptist church has been the hardiest to find.
As a life long Lutheran and a Presbyterian and Catholic school teacher, church history has always been interesting to me. I know much of the history but not about the Anabaptists. Thank you. I have family in Switzerland and in Berlin. Our Lutheran family hails from Austria and my Moms family from Denmark. I imagine my ancestors lived in the midst of these religious reformations.

There are many similarities between the Jehovah’s Witnesses and the Amish. One main one is how they keep their members in the group. They use fear. Fear of what will happen if you leave. You will lose all of your family and friends because they will no longer talk to you, or have anything to do with you. You are treated as if you are dead. That is not love.

These series are so exciting representing the amsih better than any movie prior to this in this depth. I had a real burden some years ago that could be done and thought of buying some machinery like thrashing machine and many horse drawn equipment.
All I could do was pray because I didn't have the means materially. So I see this as an answer to prayer and knowing some of the brothers and sisters makes it even more special right! Thank you Lord and thank you Joseph and everyone making this possible!
I lived in that setting for 28 years and I loved the culture in the most parts. But felt somewhat portrayed by them not teaching me the gospel.
My prayers as a young man of 15 and 16 was that I could have a family that could freely talk about Jesus. But the answer to those prayers came some 12 years later.
I know what Mrs Graber means about hearing the wind through the trees and the cowbells. Its an amazing sound … kind of surreal in a way. And my dad didnt tell us those stories … how wonderful for her that she got to experience what her father told her about when she was a little girl.

Finally something that a Christian family can watch together that starts a conversation about history and the Bible and what is means to be a Christian according to the Holy Bible ! I really enjoy this. You brother need to do a Christian TV series. As side note though, it is really important to realize and know that from Constantin times all the way to the reformation there was always a church alive and holding the truth. They have diferent names all throughout Europe. Paulinians, Albigences etc. The name used to identify all those different groups was anabaptist ( re baptizers in latin) They were the one persecuted by the catholic church all those centuries. I'm thankful for their faithfulness and testimony. The Lord Jesus said that the gates of hell will never prevel on His Church, so, the church didn't desappear and start again with the reformation. I have always wondered this. They are such a beautiful people and I was honored to have been able to meet them in person and invited to their church in their home and had them stay at our home in return.
Joseph, I have really enjoyed ‘Breaking the Silence’. I grew up in the Bristol Indiana area and am quite familiar with the Middlebury area. My dad even sells his maple syrup to some of the Amish nearby. This series was so interesting and educational, and really gives me a new perspective on the culture of the Amish people. I have always looked upon the Amish people as religious, devout and Godly, so it is quite a shock to see that people are leaving their flock to actually seek out the truth of Christ and the word of God. It was heartbreaking to listen to some of the stories of ostracization and family struggles that take place int he name of Christianity.
I dated a young man who was formerly Amish and he took me to his family’s home for Sunday dinner once. After watching your series, I now wonder how he and I were able to visit with his family. His father had passed, so it was only his Mother, siblings and 101 year old grandfather, who I had a most enjoyable walk and talk with out by their garden. There must have so much more to the story than I was aware of at the time.
I look forward to seeing more of your documentaries. Would love to see one on all of the different skills that the Amish have. I know that my father has hired them for different things over the years, such as siding the barn and sawing milling up a large maple stump into planks. And of course there is the Shipshi Sale that we all love to go to.
Unrelated to this, one of my fondest memories of the Amish in the area, is when my dad went to talk with the men who were goin to side the barn, I waited in the truck. While I waited, I watched a handful of Amish children roller-skating down the road. Such a sweet sight!
the reason you could visit his home is simple. every church has its own set of rules. one thing to keep in mind, did he actually ever get baptized in the amish church before leaving? if no then he wouldnt have been shunned. that goes for most amish churches in the middlebury area. i used to be amish as well btw hope that helps

I have been following your journey, and have thoroughly enjoyed where it has taken you and your whole family. I really didn’t understand or have any real knowledge of what the Amish believed Biblically, but have come to see a much clearer picture of their beliefs through your documentary. Leaving family and friends must have been so hard on all of you, but finding a personal relationship with Jesus Christ is by far the best for you all. And to see that you have a great mission to reach those you left for Jesus.

So fascinating! I learned so much from this! In researching my family history I have found that some of my ancestors were Anabaptists and were considered radicals. I believe these were some of the first ancestors to come to America.
This separation and breakdown usually occurs when a group focuses on what they don't have in common rather than focus on what they do have in common. It's sad that the Amish have lost their biblical roots in favor of a legalistic focus.
And, one thing I have noticed, when groups focus so much on “What they shouldn’t do” as opposed to,what they should do, that creates a huge imbalance. So, someone’s “holiness” becomes enveloped in “what they avoid doing” instead of loving one another as Jesus loved.

I am enjoying the series I don't know how it showed up on my feed but I needed a little break from the English world. I'm fascinated that you were shunned as a family and yet you still have a huge respect and you did this project with a huge respect for the Amish people. I learned how diverse they are I never knew that I was exposed to the Amish in Maryland and I just thought they were the same everywhere. I also learned the Amish don't read the Bible but they aren't the only people that don't read the Bible. Allegedly the Muslims don't read the Quran. Catholics don't read the Bible or they read the Catholic Bible and have a different idea about Jesus. I learned from your father that there's teaching Christianity with Grace or rules. Being raised Catholic in the old days it was all rules and no love. so it's been a fascinating experience I kind of stepped away from religion not God not Jesus but religion and this was a fascinating way of rethinking things so I thank you for that
Muslim here. Not sure where you heard that we don't read the Quran, but I wanted to correct you - we are all encouraged to read it and live by it. We consider it one of the most blessed actions that we can do. The Arabic language is still living/in use today even though there are numerous spoken dialects.
It is the separation, different religions and sects that is destroying us God's Children. It's really not that difficult, people think because our father gave us freedom of choice that it is difficult and strict. God wants you as you are, broken, weak, it matters not, for Our Heavenly Father Never will turn You away. None of us is without sin, but God gave his only Son to send the message and he was persecuted for ALL our sins, not some but ALL of God's Children, and he who believeth shall live eternally. The simplicity is so overlooked it is so Amazing, just as Father!!! It is in his prayer, one line that is the message, the goal of why we are here. Our mission??? On Earth as it is in Nevaeh, aka Heaven!!! We have much of it backwards because far too often we are living as man thinks we should, but we should live as God sees fit for us to live, and everyone's mission is different. It is not for one man to judge another, God is truly your only judge, and if you are living for his will, not your own, truly loving Your Truth as you understand is also God's will then you know and no one can tell you different and nothing will lead your astray. Don't be a Sheeple!!!! Live your Truth doing God's will, remember this is only a very small mission, one of many that you will gladly take part in for the main mission, on Earth as it is baçk home. 💜💜💜
Catholic here and I second what Ali said. I don’t know where you get the idea that we do not read our bible. And the Catholic bible is just as much bible as protestant.
I am not Muslim but I knew that the Muslims read the Koran, and some Muslims memorize the Koran. Catholics read the Bible and their Bible has additional chapters that the Protestants threw out.

When I first found and watched this series of documentaries about amish, I thought it was going to be very boring... I told myself what's so interesting?
After I watched a few minutes of the first episode, I became totally hooked on. I've seen a few other documentaries before Amish culture, but this one is amazing. I'm speechless....I loved it..

Wow! This was absolutely fascinating! What is crazy is I have been to some of these places and never knew this history about the Anabaptist. I literally walked along this river in Bern, Switzerland and never knew about the Anabaptist martyrs. Now I want to go back!
These series are amazing. They are inspirational. We recently visited Lancaster PA and visited " Psalm 23 park" which is owned by an ex Amish man who was shunned because God told him to built the park so people could pray and find comfort for their hurting lives. You should try to make a documentary on his story as part of your series. And welcome to God's family. I love you.

This series is very well done. I’ve learned a lot. I live outside of Lancaster and see Amish all the time. I just assumed they were following the Bible and knew the word well. I was surprised how, over time, they drifted away from it and had their own set of rules and control.
But it is true, we all have good intentions but our sin nature will always fight for control. Bless you and keep up the good work.

As a MEssianic Jew, I am intrigued as to the similarities..old world and new testament be it Jew or gentile. AMISH OR ORTHIDOX, I recently moved into a community with both Mennonite and Amish and have developed some friendships. The old school in Bothell Faith's are the same. When one comes to reading the Bible they find Christ. Their new life journey composers of appreciate their up bringing but see the need for true reformation 9f the heart...We are also known as "completed Jews"! Our heart goes out to all peoples and their need to be born again as scripture tells us...time is short...we must reach the lost...for there is no Greek or Jew who can earn heaven, but accept the grace of our Christ...Jesus Christ of Lord...our God and King. For live for Him and find our purposed...in Christ alone!

Many people also still believe in a god or gods. There are more religions in the UK then there were 50 years ago. Our British ancestors lived without Jesus and Christianity for a very long time and they gave life to us today. I own a King James Bible and pick it up and read it every now and again and I enjoy it but I’m not a Christian. I have many values that could be considered Christian and I am partly culturally Christian (like most people are in the UK) but religiously speaking I think most of the UK is no longer a majority Christian country. And correct I don’t follow Jesus. I follow Britannia like my parents did and their parents before them.

Thanks for sharing your journey. Very educational and spiritually inspiring. I came out of a similar legalistic background but God set me free about 40 years ago.
This series is wonderful so well presented. The Amish clearly have good aspects. What comes out is that it gives a good foundation but the truth of the word makes their belief real as they have a personal relationship with God.
A well done film series. Very interesting. It also reveals another example of how religious belief is a contaminating force in human lives. Creating sub-divisions among people based on their belief, to the point of imprisonment and death, is a contaminant, perpetuated by men in power. I also observe that the filmaker sought only his ancestors from his father's side, and not his mother's. This is an example of patriarchy. And I see that the experts they interviewed were all men. Religion is, above everything, a system of male dominance, male centrality, and male identification. The Gruber family, while escaping a closed punitive system of patriarchy, joined a more open, but still patriarchal, belief system. I still admire them for breaking away and appreciate what I'm learning in this film series.
Excellent episode. As a descendant of Hans Reist/Barbara Ryser, I am very interested in the timing of the efforts by Jacob Ammann to get Hans Reist to adopt the Dortrecht Confession! I believe that Hans Reist eventually moved to Montbeliard and died there in early 1723.
Oh and plus all the traveling the interviews and let's not forget the insane editing that I know had to be done for this documentary had to be hours and hours lol you guys done such an amazing job making this you really did so professionally done and beautiful

I never really understood the Anabaptism, until this video. This really is a fascinating series. But, stepping back and looking at the BIG picture. It has not changed much over the centuries. It's still the same battle that Jesus had when He was here. Worship the Lord or the Law.

Dr Luther did not break from Rome; he was excommunicated. After all, he was trying to reform the R.C. church, not to start a new church.

I grew up in Old Order German Baptist Church. My maternal grandfather was the lead counsel of the church for over 20 years. My paternal grandparents spoke Pennsylvania Dutch. My dad spoke no English until he started grade school. The fellowship is currently going through a 3rd division in the past 130+ years. Legalism is a big part of these splits. I was never a member of the church due to the legalism issues ie: higher education etc. Thank you for your documentary on the history of the Anabaptist movement.

Apply this series to all who are stuck in their man-made church. It shows that the real gospel is alive and defies organized religion. The church is spiritual, like the wind as Jesus said. Those who dont learn from history are condemned to repeat it.
The Church is a physical reality. It is organized and it has hierarchy - apostles (bishops), presbyters (priests), and so on. It holds Councils when there are disagreements. It excommunicates disobedient and rebellious members like apostle Paul directed. It celebrates the Eucharist like our Lord Jesus instructed ("do this in remembrance of me"). It forgives sins because our Lord Jesus gave his apostles the power to forgive and uphold sins. And the last but not the least, 1 Timothy 3:15 says that the Church is the pillar and foundation of truth. Which means that if you want the truth gospel without misinterpretation and human errors, the Church is the place to be (and I don't mean church building, I mean the unified body of believers with one Lord, one faith, one baptism....). The Reformation is still the greatest attack on the Church by Satan.

Very well done. Understandable and simply explained. How wonderfull it is that Amish people are becoming born again by the Spirit of God and having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I pray that many more eyes will be open and through these videos precious souls will be reached with the grace of God and the true Gospel of Jesus Christ.Have you thought about making a video of the History of the ancient waldenses or Vaudois?
