Using a router to give my kitchen shelves a rounded edge detail

  • I've got myself a couple of shelves for the kitchen, and I wanted to put a nice rounded edge on them. So here I'm using my Erbauer router with a 12.7mm radius cutter by Trend to put a fancy detail on three edges.
Coming soon - putting them up in the kitchen!

I am just getting started in woodworking and the way you explained how the bit cuts is awesome! Thank you. That is exactly what I was looking for.

Thank you for the video. I made a butcher block top for my kegerator and have little experience using a router. I didn’t even think about the blade rotation and keeping things moving in the same direction. Watching your video and listening to your tips made this project easy 😀👍.

Just bought myself the same router, and am a complete noob, so everything in this vid was really useful and informative - especially the bit about mounting the work to the workbench!

Thank you. I actually couldn't remember how the router sticks to the edge and doesn't channel into the wood. I noticed there was a bearing at the bottom of the router bit. Thank you for your work. Very informative. Cheers.

Awesome mate. I have been searching for how to do this same type of profile and you got it. Just what I needed to learn before building a blanket storage and match it with the rest of the bedroom furnitures. Thanks.

I realize this is an older video but, I wanted to say, great job! It was very informative and I learned several key points from you. Thank You! Now! Young man, you wore your glasses throughout most of the video, UNTIL it came time to use the router!! You need to protect your eyes or you may end up being " Pirate Bailly " wearing a patch over one or both eyes. Ok, I said my piece, lol. Again, great video. Take Care!!

If I want to create a round profile on 18mm MDF. Is the 12.7mm cutter suitable or get another blade?

Why didn't you just clamp it to the back end of the bench instead of drilling holes in the middle?

Just a quick observation Justin. There is, what seems to be a directional arrow on the router base. What does that indicate please mate. Great video by the way.

Thank you. Sorry about the hole in your ceiling. Your video is very down to earth and I like that. I do have a question. How can I put a radius corner in plexiglas (All four corners.) Can a router do that consistently?? --An American fan of your work!

    • @7StrokeRoll

Use a corner radius template and a straight bit with bearing.

  • @gilesyone

What keeps the line straight, have you a guide set up? Also, looks like you could do with ear protection in that place

The router bit has a bearing on it, so all I'm doing is allowing the bearing to run along the edge of the timber.

Great video Justin. I have just bought my first router for exactly these sort of projects, so this was so helpful. A couple of quick questions: Will I have success with my router using plywood - thinking about edging? Do you advise doing more than one pass? If yes, will I have to adjust the depth each time? Many thanks

Do you know what router bit is used to create the profile on stair treads.

    • @JBTV
      @JBTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Something like this will be used amzn.to/2WvzlQD
If using this type of bit in a hand held router then you'll need to set up a guide rail on the piece of work, as this doesn't have a bearing on it. If you have a router bench, then you can just run it through using the fence. Hope this helps.
