Also, as a separate observation, I love the work you do please keep it up. This extra comment is just to help boost the algorithm.

I like that the detailed nutritional information for this brand is easily available on the website. No emailing back and forth with customer support. I occasionally give my cats the varieties that have controlled phosphorous

Weruva is one of the best brands for low phosphorus and calcium wet canned food. They have an Wx food line that is perfect for CKD kitties.

I did mention the WX diets in the video. But I have to say with actual kidney disease I would still trust the veterinary diets to manage the disease. Phosphorus is just part of the story.

@@PetFoodPuzzleGuy Yes I agree. Having lost a kitty to CKD I would always recommend a therapeutic diet first. But I know people who feed this food when their CKD kitties will no longer eat their therapeutic diet cat food. It seems to be hit for some of them! And like with any CKD kitty you should be getting bloodwork done regularly to monitor kidney function.

@@AshleyKarys good point! Especially with cats, when they refuse to eat, you want options. I was going to tease you that you didn’t watch the whole video, where I mention WX but I decided to be nice!😉

Happy Feline Friday! You must like trains. Some of Weruva's cat recipes come in 10 oz. cans for $3.99. Less, if you autoship with Chewy. Hill's needs to make more recipes available in at least 5.5 oz. cans. Many brands source their wet cat food from Thailand. They have strict controls on their pet food processing. Probably better that the FDA, USDA do here for pet food.

Well there you go. I knew my nutrition nuts community would do more research for me! For decades Hills made big cans only and got so much grief. I guess times have changed but sales of little cans are much higher than large cans. I remember 3 is cabs are most popular for cat parents. So do dogs get any days in a week?

@@PetFoodPuzzleGuy With two cats, Hill's 2.9 oz cans are too expensive. The few 5.5 oz I have found are not too bad. My daughter and my next door neighbor have dogs. They will have to come up with the dog names. Fido Friday? Wolf Wednesday? LOL

Just stumbled upon your channel and immediately subscribed. Thank you for such honest reviews. I would love to know your thoughts on the brand Carna4 pet foods. I have two cats and like all pet parents I'm trying to feed the best food I can. I'm currently feeding weruva and Carna4. Thanks so much! I look forward to binge watching your channel :)

Is there a video on puppy food? Wondering about nutrition between Purina pro plan and science diet specifically for puppies. Thank you! You are so helpful and I appreciate all you’ve done!

Either one would be fine for the first year of your pup. I wouldn't sweat over either one.

Weruva & Tiki appear very similar and both made in Thailand. Have not really researched either but have bought both. I was aware produced in Thailand. My geriatric 15 1/2 year old dog tiki and certain weruva are of a few wet foods she will eat. She does NOT like most other can/wet food at any price since her taste buds changed last year. So im grateful for both companies producing food for picky eaters. It's actually nice looking food if you went for looks alone. I know the dogs don't care about the looks but it does look of good quality.

i haven't looked at Tiki yet. I am relieved and happy I'm finding some good foods rather than blasting foods all the time!

@PetFoodPuzzleGuy 😅 when I had first heard of this food like 14,15 years ago Thailand I was a little concerned but apparently they make high quality wet recipes. Check out Tiki, they make wet dog and cat food and also now have a kibble.

Yes we in Australia have a FEW pet foods that are made Thailand...
You can tell the quality is heaps better then some of our Australian made pet brands, our Aldis Silvester Sachets cat wet food & Cachet Gourmet Creamy Selections are made Thailand & my cat does really well on these wet foods, she doesn't vomit, where she vomits on other Australian brands wet sachet & kibble foods...
People read "Thailand" & straight away think China but NO Thailand is not China..There's a BIG difference in countries.

I have a question for you in general. Do you think in your own opinion that excess nutrition above and beyond what an animal needs could be a contributor in cancer in animals? I have wondered if quality of foods is too high in some cases in nutrient density is exceeded to the point that we are over feeding by following bag directions when using dry kibble alone that we could actually cause cancer in our beloved animals by attempting to overcompensate on nutrients. I know you’ve mentioned phosphorus and some thing else I can’t remember right off the top of my head when talking about quality of ingredients.

    • @PetFoodPuzzleGuy
      @PetFoodPuzzleGuy  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

the delivery of excess nutrients has definitely been linked to certain diseases like kidney disease, heart disease, diabetes, obesity, etc but I know of no research indicating cancer. if there is it will probably be at some genetic level we haven't discovered yet.

I like that Weruva’s food are lower in carbohydrates because my butterball leaning cat does not handle it well. My vet recommended to limit her kibble intake and feed her a high meat based protein, low carbohydrate wet food. Not sure why she’s like that. My other 2 cats maintain their weight regardless as long as calories are appropriate.
Would you ever review Aldi cat and dog food? Its what I feed the outside cat and I fed my chihuahua before she passed.

The pet nutrition alliance is a global organization and has contacted pet food manufacturers and asked the WSAVA questions. There is a spreadsheet on their site. Who formulates? Do you own your own facilities…… etc
There was no response from Weruva so that tells me all I need to know!
