    I fed this food, the marine 16… I show dogs and I have 8 adults currently. In the beginning everything was ok, but after a few months I noticed my dogs drinking more than normal, and as time went on (few more months), my dogs (all of them), were drinking a ridiculous amount of water, I gave it a couple more months, every day I was filling bowl 2-3 times a day, it was getting ridiculous and definitely not normal. I switched to farmina and within 2 days the water consumption went back to normal, huge difference. It’s been a couple months now on farmina and water consumption is still normal. I don’t know what’s in that food that can make a dog sooooo thirsty after some time (like something was building up in their system). Thanks for this review Dr.Rea ❤

      Interesting, given when I was feeding farmina my dog was drinking an absurd amount of water

    Late to the review but actually the figure on the front is called an inukshuk - a structure of rough stones stacked in the form of a human figure, traditionally used by Inuit people as a landmark or a commemorative sign.
    A cairn is a human made stack of rocks but not in the shape of a human I believe.

    • @AnimalDocRea
      @AnimalDocRea  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’ve never seen them stacked as a human figured so I guess here in the Appalachians we have cairns

    Hi, your reviews are so helpful to cut through the marketing speak! I have a standard poodle who runs 16-20 miles a week with me at a 9-9.5 min/mile pace. Would he qualify as active?

    • @AnimalDocRea
      @AnimalDocRea  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I’d say he would be active but not necessarily athletic so I’d start with feeding the RER x1.6 and see if he maintains

    • @Mindfuleats
      @Mindfuleats 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you! What is RER? I knew he wasn’t athletic because I know dogs that live with horses, and they will get out and do miles and miles with riders in the morning then do it again later in the day! I thought my guy might be fine on normal feed.

    The good thing with this food is it's sourced in Canada. Canada's dog food regulations are so much more extensive than USA. Just too much fat for my liking

    Is Purina Pro Plan Sport a better choice or working dogs?

      I’ve never seen the RC Professional Energy and Sporting Life in stores.
      The Euk PP is very scarce on the shelves here….

      I feed Inukshuk 26/16 and Purina ONE as a maintenance feed and was asking about the PPP 30/20 because of the reviews she gave for Inukshuk 30/25

    Thank you for the review/information.. we are currently looking at this food.. very confused at one thing in particular though.. you say the 4100 calories per kg are average (which I find no foods that are that high.. they probably average at 3500/kg), but then say the per cup calories are high.. which is just the same calories, but converted to cups instead of kg.. unless I am missing something..?

    • @AnimalDocRea
      @AnimalDocRea  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      One is metabolizable energy which is caloric density and the other is calorie per cup. You’ll need to reference the chapter in the cited text if you are unfamiliar with the terminology as it’s too lengthy to explain in this format. You will find many foods explored across this channel of varied ME and the necessary conversions to compensate for the deviation from the standards

    • @CameronStruthers
      @CameronStruthers หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AnimalDocRea ah ok.. I wasnt sure if I was missing something there, sounds like I am since I dont understand those exactly.. I thought they were just two ways to view the same information.. my guy has a really high matabolizm and before raw we used to feed orijen because it was more dense. But the protein is quite high.. so we are looking to try a dry food again and deciding between the inukshuk and the purina pro plan sport.. both look decent and my vet likes them both.. but hard to say which to try I guess.

    Small Criticism. Almost too much info. Just want to know the best food for my active hunting dog.?

    • @AnimalDocRea

      I don’t give recommendations, I give knowledge so you can make an informed decision. I recommend consulting your personal veterinarian for specific recommendations regarding your pet’s individual health and performance. It would be inappropriate for me (or anyone else on the internet) to make a recommendation without direct knowledge about your personal pet. Although I do appreciate your respectful criticism.

      If Dr. Rea does not get around to reviewing the 16/25 formulas, Glenn from Pet Food Puzzle Guy has two products from Royal Canin and Purina with similar Omega-3/Omega-6 ratios in a video about arthritis. He covers the science of why pet food manufacturers pay attention to fatty-acids.
      Hope that helps.

      @AnimalDocRea  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You will want a food that is specifically for pregnant and lactating, avoid raw. I don’t have a specific recommendation because I have not personally assessed your pet, but you have e many options including most “all life stage” foods

      @@AnimalDocRea Canicross is cross-country running with your dog in a pulling harness up front and attached to the runner with a bungee lead. It's a mushing-type activity and often used as an alternative to sledding.
