@@djjaxter I thought the same thing, missing out on all previous cards and combinations. However, as a newcomer, I do find myself excited for what the new expansions have to offer. My friends and I love tabletop/card games, but we always struggled to find one that had proper replayability, and hearthstone was the right mix. It was casual friendly and the meta changes up every month - which is great for my friends and I who meet up every weekend to play against one another with new and unique decks - it continues to stay fresh. and I do agree with you when it comes to the meta. It can be so rage inducing at times that I wonder why it takes them so long to balance these issues out, but instead, we have to wait months on end for the power creep to level out to proper playing field. Even now, the starcraft mini-set has brought the power creep to new heights. But atleast when I'm tired playing the standard, I can always just enjoy the friendly matchups with my group instead.

@djjaxter the thing about wild is you still can have fun playing self made decks in silver ranks, cause people there are playing random fun decks too. In standard there's no such option, everyone is playing meta turn 4 lethal sh1t. I absolutely can go to wild and play my random mage deck with yoggs puzzleboxes, yoggs location, yogg himself and a lot of freeze spells to live to cast the puzzlebox, but in standard fun isn't an option

Christ, this game. Yeah I've got a bit of history with it. Buckle up, chucklefucks, this is gonna be a long one. Also, my experiences will mostly reflect Wild play, for better or worse. I never bothered with Standard all that much, because I disliked the idea of being locked out of cards after a point, especially some of which I busted my balls for. In some respects, this was a huge mistake in hindsight.
Started out as a pretty fun little game, although it started gradually shifting towards a direction I wasn't fond of, before eventually hitting a point of no return. Whilst even at the start, I think it was a bit flawed in places (paying for access to raids for new cards is a little shitty, but I'm admittedly not sure on where I stand on this in particular), it had plenty enough to do once Raids started being introduced. Those were so fucking challenging for me, and I remember busting my balls against Nefarius and Kel'Thuzad, even whilst on holiday. They were such a bitch, but god, beating them was the best fucking feeling, especially when you got them as some great card choices for the time. They don't do them like they used to anymore, sadly, and it is very unfortunate.
Around Un'goro Crater is when the game noticibly shifted to something more.. Well, insane, frankly. Whilst I didn't like the power creep, and eventual shift to fixating on big wombo combos and big damage numbers, I would be lying if I said it was entirely bad for the game (with exceptions. Priest's Quest card from that expansion in particular. I'll explain more in a bit), and hilariously, this was when I started getting super into the game as well. There were some combos and deck archetypes that I used that I found particularly fun, especially when I decided to use said combos with.. Unorthodox cards.
Cube Lock for instance, holds a special place in my heart personally, mostly because of the funny shit I got up to with it. You had your usual suspects, but as I played Wild, I particularly found it funny to use Mal'Ganis as my intended copy target. Basically rendering my hero invincible seven times over, whilst also buffing each Mal'Ganis is pretty damn funny. Sure, a board wipe fixed that pretty quick, but unless they have a means to get rid of the Mal'Ganisi, they're not touching you until they do.
This isn't why I love Cube Lock though. The reason I love Cube Lock was because I decided to use it with Jaraxxus. Whilst also playing as Mecha-Jaraxxus. It's not at all advantageous to me in the slightest, but summoning a horde of Jaraxxusi, whilst also getting my skin back in the process, was the funniest fucking thing to me, and it's even funnier when this somehow wins me games. This was before they turned Jaraxxus into a hero card, and I despise Blizzard for doing that, because this stupid idea can never be repeated again, unfortunately.
Another favourite of mine was what I called "Minesweeper." Was a hunter that used deathrattles with damaging effects to the other player, and the goal as to basically set up the board for one big kaboom. Gets neutered a bit if people refuse to play ball, but even that whittles down their health to an extent, which can prove costly if they insist upon killing the deathrattle creatures that keep pinging them for 2 damage. Combined with the hero power, pretty much a race against time. When it all goes well though? You whittle them down enough for the big kaboom to go off, and boom, they're just suddenly dead. It was wild.
There were the annoying ones though, like Priests and Rogues just copying your deck essentially. And Priests in general, for that matter. For some reason, ever since Un'Goro, Priests have consistently been the most infuriating class for me to be matched up with, especially on Wild, and they always seem to be getting the most busted shit. I've rarely had a good encounter with a Priest, and after a point, I started encountering decks where the Priest would literally never die, because the Priest would complete their Un'Goro quest card, which is a creature that sets their life to 40. And then copy it. Repeatedly. You will *never* kill a priest on Wild. Don't even try. I pretty much auto concede the moment I see one, that's how bad it's gotten.
If you're one of these Priest players that does this shit, know that you have earnt a very special place in hell, and have earnt my eternal seething hatred. As ironic as it is, despite your class, you are absolutely *not* going to see Heaven for what you've done to me alone.
It was some time around when Demon Hunters were announced as the next class where I started getting the impression that they're just doing whatever the hell they felt like after a point. I was not a fan of Demon Hunters being added as a class, I would've much prefered them being a fancy hero card type, like Death Knights before, which I think would've been cooler. Not only would Demon Hunters have less cards in Wild to play around with long term, but I figured it would be more of a ballache to balance than it's worth. I think they hit a good sweet spot with nine classes, they didn't need more (although I'm convinced Priest should be removed at this point, but I am just that bitter, truth be told). After that point, it just started getting worse in my opinion, without much hope of getting better. Sure, Battlegrounds is popular, and all the power to the fellas who enjoy it, but I couldn't get into it. And then you got Battlepasses, along with Diamond cards, so on, so forth. Just stopped after a point, a few years back. It wasn't the game I fell in love with anymore.
Pretty much a running theme with Blizzard titles though for me. Used to be a mega fan of theirs. Now, I just don't care anymore. Somehow ended up going back to WoW, despite telling myself I never would after two years, but Hearthstone? No, those days are long gone, and I don't see myself returning. But I am grateful it existed at least. It sucks to see what it's become now, but at some point in my life? This was the card game I wanted to play, and I enjoyed the everloving fuck out of it. Well, until a Priest shows up. But besides that? Was one of the greats. As you've said, a wonderful game, made by, at the time, a great company. Alas, it was not meant to be. Perhaps it's still good for some though. I guess that's some kind of win.
Anyhow, thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

@@djjaxter Tell me about it. Running theme with Blizzard though, sadly. It didn't need to be this way though, I think it could've been avoided. But alas, the shit greed does to a company. Or at least, I'm convinced that is the main motivator for half the dumb shit Bizzard themselves have done.
Those unfair decks are also a big mood killer, especially on the ranked ladder. Holy shit, can they ruin a good time when they rear their ugly head.
I do miss this game though. Same could be said about Heroes of the Storm as well, which I personally prefer for MOBAs.
By the way, the banana strat is fucking hilarious. I would hate to be hit by that admittedly, but I see the amusement in it at least, especially when it's coming from Hunter of all classes. Well played.
