ABOUT THE OXFORD UNION SOCIETY: The Oxford Union is the world's most prestigious debating society, with an unparalleled reputation for bringing international guests and speakers to Oxford. Since 1823, the Union has been promoting debate and discussion not just in Oxford University, but across the globe.
The Oxford Union is deeply grateful and encouraged by the messages of support in response to our determination to uphold free speech. During our 200 year history, many have tried to shut us down. As the effects of self-imposed censorship on university campuses, social media and the arts show no signs of dissipating, the importance of upholding free speech remains as critical today as it did when we were founded in 1823. Your support is critical in enabling The Oxford Union to continue its mission without interruption and without interference. You can support the Oxford Union here: oxford-union.o...

I am much more concerned about the Vatican returning artifacts; although that does not dismiss the importance of the British museums returning stolen artifacts.

A stronger debater might have taken this same angle and performed well, but by god this man tanked the delivery; just a poor speaker and a creature of small cleverness rather than any genuine intellect. I don't think the mere fact someone has attended Oxford attests to their intellect or maturity.
Affirmative action admission? Regardless, I like his hat.

Homing in strategically around the framing of the question and the initial line of argumentation seemed promising but to then try and reinforce his arguments by making blanket characterisations such as Britain = lying seemed so lazy. I thought the initial jibes about his opponents were just normal entertainment you see in debates but by the end of his argument, it made the whole speech seem flippant and for attention or effect, rather than being invested in the topic at all. Despite this, I think it's a reach for you to insinuate affirmative action or the merits of his placement in this academic establishment.

@@HH-xd5zi Fair enough. He could just as well be a legacy admission/donor's child. I haven't spent enough times around undergraduates to know which ones are clever and which ones aren't. You do see the word 'Oxford' and expect more than this, I should add.
I don't have any objection to the political stances taken; almost any point can be argued well or argued poorly. I would have been very happy to see a post-colonial POV advanced in a well-thought out manner.

Just because someone is biased or allowed you to talk doesn't make them infallible!?! Not the definition.
