    Shifter problem is definitely not nitpick, it’s a dealbreaker.

      The shifting issue is being addressed by Pilot. Shifting will be electronic & embedded into brake handles (no more rotational shifter), coming end of Q1 2024. With this, my only worry is resolved, I am on the waiting list for this cream of the crop bike.

    Hello and thank you for an amazing reviews on some pinion bikes. I understand how much resources & effort it takes, but it would be definitely very much helpful if you would review a new option with smart shift on dropbars. We would appreciate that very much. Thanks again, have a great day:)

    Great review, thnx! I m thinking about buying this pinion version. I make rides between the 40-70 km pro ride, several days a week, mostly on common ways, sometimes in the woods or gravel. For me it is perhaps an alternative for the Pilot Veturi, their comfort/endurance bike or the J. Guillem Atalya.

    Can you please review a bike with Cinq Shift:R for Pinion. I am looking a buying a bike with them soon.

    • @UnicornBikes

      Well I don't own a pinion bike, and Cinq hadn't shipped units at the time of filming this video so probably not..

    What is the weight of this very unique bike? Do you think you would like to ride this bike on the road if the spacing between the higher gears were closer together and shifter was more comfortable?

  • @marcokalle2452

    The shifter is seen in this video would be a dealbreaker for me for sure. Any idea if Pinion is developing a proper dropbar shifter? Or another component maker perhaps?

    Check out effigear…same bolt pattern as pinion but you don’t have to back off the watts between gears 3-4 and 9-10 (if I remember correctly) and electric shifting

    It's 2024; did they integrate Pinion Smart.Shift with this bike? How does it compare to other similar bikes like Priority Gemini?

    Credit to you for starting with the prices.
    The pricing is typical of the cycling industry.. shocking!
    Yes, they are Titanium, and yes, Titanium is difficult to work with..these are priced for the uber wealthy and uber stupid. Normal, sensible cyclists are not welcomed here.
    As per normal these days, plenty of hype and marketing to try to justify the ridiculous pricing.
    I don't even care how it rides, how it looks etc.
    Boring YT content on new unobtainable, over-hyped and over-priced cycling products.

    The only thing missing is suspension. Don't tell me the carbon fiber fork is the suspension

    • @PRH123

    is it softer to climb compared to sram eagle 50t or even the latest 52t with 30t chainring?

    • @brauljo
      @brauljo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A 10-52t cassette has a 520 % gear range. Pinion's 12 speed gearboxes have a 600 % range. Their 18 speed gearbox has a 636 % range.

    From Oz … yes, a lovely bike and I would buy one BUT THE SHIFTER, definitely a deal breaker and the Cinq shifters are not much of an improvement because of impact on packing bags etc onto the bars. Sorry, Pilot and Pinion, better solutions are needed.

  • @Garfie1d73
    @Garfie1d73 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Throw away that Gates belt and get a chain. You will be much faster (about 2 km/h) and cycle further. That's 20 km difference per day on a longer trip. Ant that shifter is a monstrosity.

    Pinion has larger jumps between the gears than the derailleur system, thus being a lot harder on your knees and you cannot change gear when powering up steep hills without stopping the pedalling, which makes it only really usable for bikepacking or commuting. Shame about the shifter, on such an expensive bike.

    • @UnicornBikes
      @UnicornBikes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not really, the Pinion system has 12 (or 18) equally spaced gears. In the easiest two, you notice the steps, but you almost never use those. Not being able to shift under power does indeed suck...

    • @peroperic3692
      @peroperic3692 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@UnicornBikes the difference is 17% between gears here and in an derailleur 6% in higher gears and 14% in lower.

    • @UnicornBikes
      @UnicornBikes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's pretty bad thinking tho. The total gear range of a C.12 or P.18 gearbox is almost two times larger than that of a 10-32 cassette... I'm mostly a mountainbike rider who is used to a 10-50 cassette, I didn't find the steps in between gears noticeable. Ask a triathlon rider, and they'll probably hate it though...

    • @peroperic3692
      @peroperic3692 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@UnicornBikes yeah I ride a lot of road and some hills and find it pretty hard on the knees on higher road speeds (25+km/h). The higher jumps in gearing compared to a road cassette are really what kills it for me on the road. And the hills I ride are pretty steep so I need the shifting when powering up the hill. But most of the riders will be happy with the low maintenance and durability itself. I heard some people had issues with the forged cranks and had to replace those with CNC ones though.

    • @JimiAle
      @JimiAle 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @pero: I bought Pilot a MTB with a Pinion C1.12 gearbox. I actually expected the jump in gear spacing to be an issue as well. Now that I’ve got a few thousand km with that gearbox I hardly notice that the gear spacing is larger (than on my regular MTB). I’d suggest you have a test ride, the gearbox is a lot better than I initially thought, especially now it’s worn in. I find myself always reaching for the Pinion bike as opposed to the SRAM bike.
