    I truly hate hate hate Marvin's father for shooting him dead. I don't care what was his excuse. One of the greatest talents in music was extinguished forever.

      Well, Marvin Gaye's father got what he wanted. His wife divorced him. She bailed him out of jail, but he wasn't allowed to go to marvin's funeral. But he was living in the state of california and He was banned from owning a Gun and and he was banned from every liquor store and bar in the state of California and he was forced to move into a nursing home until his death In 1998.

      It has a lot to do with the hold on releasing the rights to his music. A couple of years ago, a stage play called "My Brother Marvin" came out ( Keith Washington as Marvin) but the family didn't relinquish the rights to use his songs, which took away from the whole concept. The same things happened with the Whitney Houston movie and the Aalyiah movie.

    This was beautiful. They put the wrong year for his birth though,its 1939 not 38. RIP I'll never forget when it came on the radio that he died because we thought it was an April Fool's day joke.

    I remember that Marvin living in Ostend, Belgium for a year before he died in the US (he composed Sexual Healing in Ostend at the seaside), met Diana Ross on one of the concerts I organized in Brussel, Belgium. This was truly a fantastic reunion and Diana and Marvin sung a duet during that concert. I will always remember that!

  • @SPTO
    @SPTO 5 ปีที่แล้ว +27

    I've always wondered where that footage of Marvin and Diana in concert comes from. I've only seen it in this video but never in its original context. Now THAT would be a hidden gem.

    • @knockshinnoch1950
      @knockshinnoch1950 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The clip is from a Diana Ross concert. Marvin was in the audience and Diana handed him the mic to sing a few lines. Sadly they never actually performed a live duet together that was recorded on tape. They recorded their vocals at different times for the 1973 Diana & Marvin album as Marvin was constantly smoking dope in the studio and Diana was pregnant at the time.

    This is great because I never seen this award show until now in 2023 this great Marvin lives in heart every week that at 72 listen to his music so much and I miss him but hearing and seeing him on U tube his passion and loving soul bring tears of joy because Marvin words tell us as now we are going thru so much he was singing about the fish in ocean full of mercury and back when I was protesting about war in the east we lost so many mentally and physically and save the children there will never be another he is my favorite alone with another generation artist Tupac
