Thank you for bringing back memories. I owned several A-64's. They were excellent machines. Great machines in a gravel pit, they never hesitated to load a full bucket.
Ezra you are a hard working smart Man. Wish I had the knowledge you have. I do work on my truck and trailer. Oil changes. brakes. bearings. Change tires. but you lengthen frames. Put axles on weld. Enjoy your videos. Take care.
That's heavy work, for anything a bit larger than that I remove completely and secure it vertically. Then use lifting equipment to remove and replace the rod. Makes replacement much easier, but watch out for the oil fountain! Great job👍 I am not an expert either.
Awesome to see you do your own work and not be to worried about messing it up more or not having the right tools. As always a pleasure to watch and learn
Not the first cylinder iv ever done but probably the biggest iv done. only tool I didn't have was the spanner for the rod end nut. At the end of the day once you have been turning wrenches long enough you start to realize it's all just nuts and bolts no matter what your working on.
Ezra another great video. Glad you got it fixed. Sorry about the oil bath. I guess a new pair of pants maybe boots are next on the list. Take Care & Stay Safe.
In all seriousness, though, see you set that rod and then hefting that up there to set the pin was impressive. As someone who's worked on this stuff in my past, I know how heavy they are! Nice job, man!
Only suggestion would be to use a ratchet strap to help hold That cylinder in place while fighting the pin. I am surprised you got the piston nut loose by hand. I have had them where a 1” impact need some heat to get them off
You certainly make it look easy Ezra Ya won't have to worry about water proof ya boots and trousers mate ya done ya done a good job on them "aye" ah well it is what it is , you should be getting a bit of spring weather over there ahortly cheers mate "RB" downunder
Matt of Diesel Creek;had a similar experience when he had to change the hydraulic oil in the transmission in his wheel loader, that he had named "Big Bertha".He wasn't prepared;for how much oil would come flooding & gushing out,and got a face full of hydraulic oil.Afterwords he said on his channel that the next time he has to change the hydraulic oil;he was going to be wearing a pair of chemical resistant goggles and a face shield to avoid getting a face full of hydraulic oil.
Just happend to find your channel on youtube and love your content. I do kind of the same work as you and like to see the way you are working out all the issues. Thinking of starting a youtube channel with my work too. Greetings from Denmark, and keep up the good work.
I thought there would be a lot more to it than that. I wonder why our shop doesn't do repack in house. If I ever try, I'll be sure to have full rain gear on. LOL Here we haul out of small lots, it's $80-100CAN per hour for the trucks. The city/townships have designated dump sites for snow. It IS really expensive! Not everyone has friends like you. Thanks for the great video! I learned a ton here!
It probably would have easily $1000 to haul that snow out. To haul the loader over there re stack the pile and haul the loader back was $200 and $100 of that was just to get the loader over there and back. Would have had $200 in it just hauling the loader over going back swapping trailers and coming back to load the first load to haul out. All that kind of stuff I bill on a hourly rate.
@@Ezrider359 Absolutely! Here it's minimum 4 hours to start(unless they get a deal), sometimes an hour round trip to dump the snow, if it comes out of the box first try. Adds up crazy fast! Excellent way to go for you! That's a good deal! Float service is a little more here. Where I currently work, we walk the loader to town and it is billed per hour, not far, across the highway. When I did snow removal myself, which I actually miss doing! Was in the city, same thing, I took the loader from the shop and did snow removal from one end of the city to the other. Doing private driveways here and there seeing folks struggling. Shhh, Don't tell the boss LOL
there was a whole bunch of editing from 2;55 to 3;05 hahahahah bro i know that pissed you off and ive done similar things myself but that made me spit my coffee out and the wife wonder if i was alright after hyper ventilating . made my day bro thanks for the video
Yeah I was less than pleased. I mean I was expecting fluid to come out but thought i could release it a little more controlled than basically dumping a whole 5 gallon bucket straight down my leg.
I saw you took a hydraulic oil bath then they're done that but I did mine with motor oil I was changing oil I pulled the plug and it just fell out and I didn't have the pan in the right place and it just shot all over my chest and and my stomach and waist haha I was a total mess. Things like that happen from time to time I feel your pain.
Oh!! The *hydraulic oil bath* is never fun Ezra! 😣 Time to take a shower with Dawn dish soap, you'll be like the little ducks in the commercials! 😂 Gotta give you a hard time my friend. Nice work with the repairs 🔧
Hopefully after this April 4th & 5th storm we're finally done with snowfall. Know your at near record total snowfall in Bismarck area. Gonna be interesting in eastern part of ND too. I'm sure you'd rather be hauling fertilizer than still moving snow.
Iv been hauling fertilizer in-between storms but definitely ready for spring weather. Glad we haven't gotten anywhere near the 10-20 inches they were forcasting for this storm.
Yes glad we didn't get nearly as much snow weather terrorists were talking lol. Still too much. Hopefully you won't have troubles with flooding in Bismarck Mandan area. I'm on high ground southwest of Fargo no worries of any flooding
Iv had more trouble getting smaller ones apart than the larger ones especially if the nut on the end is aluminum threaded onto steel. But that's why I made sure it would come loose before I started.
I got the rod out of the cylinder and the cylinder all over me……..I hate when that happens but at least is isn’t gear oil, burnt up transmission fluid, gasoline or diesel 😊
Brother l was thinking MAN He's gotta know better than that there's a bunch of Oil in that cylinder. Nope You pulled it out and I said He's getting a Bath either He wants to or NOT!!! Brother what was you thinking lol sorry for laughing but now it's over We can laugh together. I'm sure You were extremely Pissed Off 😡 when it first happened. Bet next time You will never let that happen again...
I know your a young guy and your a one man operation(so am I) but try to take care of your body(it will remind you when your older). I would have used two ratchet straps, one to hold the cylinder up and another to compress the cylinder. Other than that you did a great job! On a side note the government does not want you to collect rain water thats theirs! BUT if it falls frozen its your problem.
You have free water proofing for your boots 😂 I've had a few hydraulic baths over the years soaked right to my underwear walking like the tin man clothes soaked in AW46 🙄
Worst one I ever Did was below 0 out and blew a supply hose on the side dump with the tub all the way up and only way I could get the tub set back down so I could go to get a hose made was to crack a line loose on one of the cyl while a front end loader pushed the box down. I got inpatient and tried to give the hose another half turn and it popped off and had a 1 inch hose spray me straight in the face. Face hair shirt pants all soaked to the skin. Freezing cold to boot added to the enjoyment.
You need more bench space...... so you have more work space(and can store more shit).... LOL an image of you putting the pack back in would make a good meme... LOL
Sorry man, I just had to burst out laughing at the oil soaking. I know the feeling.
Thank you for bringing back memories. I owned several A-64's. They were excellent machines. Great machines in a gravel pit, they never hesitated to load a full bucket.
Good job, Ezra👍👍👍

Maybe not a "professional", EZ, but awfully close. I find your videos not only entertaining, but educational. Thanks.

Mr Ezra Man that was a bunch of hydraulic oil. Thanks for sharing and stay safe.
It sure was, thanks for watching Mr Hal. Stay safe out there 👍
That job didn't seem too bad other than the hydraulic oil bath and everything is heavy. Well done.
Yeah not a very complicated repair.
Ezra another great video. Glad you got it fixed. Sorry about the oil bath. I guess a new pair of pants maybe boots are next on the list. Take Care & Stay Safe.
Very good video thank you. For taking the time to show it…
Ok,glad you got that hydraulic cylinder redone, and working order,I enjoyed your show and I'll catch ya on the next one.
Man, if these oil baths continue, this might be most informative Beauty Spa channel ever!
In all seriousness, though, see you set that rod and then hefting that up there to set the pin was impressive. As someone who's worked on this stuff in my past, I know how heavy they are! Nice job, man!
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
Thanks for sharingl.
i legit laughed out loud when that fluid shot out😂 love the videos being posted, can’t wait for the side dump trucking season to see more
It was hard work but successful in the end, greetings from Brazil.
man...i saw the fluid gush and instantly looked at my own pants leg....been there a time or two. all dry and working well. a good day for sure.
I had two different colored boots because of a similar oil bath. Only got one boot.
And they were about a week old.
Only suggestion would be to use a ratchet strap to help hold
That cylinder in place while fighting the pin. I am surprised you got the piston nut loose by hand. I have had them where a 1” impact need some heat to get them off
If it's a normal nut it would have locktight on it heat would be the tool for the job. This one had a nylon lock nut

Literally the only diy channel that I watch from start to end on a video. Nice job
Appreciate that
Shame on them mess!!!!
As always nice work!
Great job.
👍🏼🍻
For the most part, you made that look easy.
I don’t know what’s funnier, that oil spilling or you dropping the frame rail on ol red 😂😂
there was a whole bunch of editing from 2;55 to 3;05 hahahahah bro i know that pissed you off and ive done similar things myself but that made me spit my coffee out and the wife wonder if i was alright after hyper ventilating .
made my day bro thanks for the video

All things considered you handled that oil shower pretty well 🤣🤣
You have a ton of knowledge. How long have you been in the industry?
Nice job EZ!
I just had two done and they could not get the nut off the cylinder. Fixed one had to buy one.
Good work 👍🏼
Maybe use a ratchet strap, to hold up the ram. For putting in the pin. Maybe. A million thanks, for keeping me entertained. st.Paul.Minnesota.

Lol yup. Thanks for watching Zane be safe and take care.
2:56 dang it!!
Theres no business like snow business😄⭐⭐⭐
We use a ratchet strap to hold it up to line up the pin.
That waterfall of hydraulic fluid is one for the highlight reel ez
Coffees on brother!!here we go!!;-)!!!
Enjoy!
Magnificent
Wahoo! An Ezra video!

you a lucky guy man that thing came apart ez
Iv had more trouble getting smaller ones apart than the larger ones especially if the nut on the end is aluminum threaded onto steel. But that's why I made sure it would come loose before I started.
I got the rod out of the cylinder and the cylinder all over me……..I hate when that happens but at least is isn’t gear oil, burnt up transmission fluid, gasoline or diesel 😊
Yeah atleast hydraulic oil is one of the cleaner oils you could take a bath in
No more dried skin after all that oil
Sorry I laughed too. I show the heavy equipment mechanic at the shop. He laughed to. Then said that why they take them off
Brother l was thinking MAN He's gotta know better than that there's a bunch of Oil in that cylinder. Nope You pulled it out and I said He's getting a Bath either He wants to or NOT!!! Brother what was you thinking lol sorry for laughing but now it's over We can laugh together. I'm sure You were extremely Pissed Off 😡 when it first happened. I can't stop laughing at all the beep I get what you mean
FYI.. Put red loctite on the rod nut.
It's a nylon lock nut. If it was a normal nut you would want to use locktight
@@Ezrider359 We use it anyway.. Those nylocks don't hold much.
A little hard/heavy work isn't going to hurt you. Would have been way more fiddly and taken longer to try to position it with ratchet straps IMO
You have free water proofing for your boots 😂 I've had a few hydraulic baths over the years soaked right to my underwear walking like the tin man clothes soaked in AW46 🙄

@@Ezrider359 Yuck that would make a guy really cranky
😎👌
Down shift Ez. You knew that cylinder was going to be full of oil.
Yeah I was anticipating some oil not 5 gallons straight down my leg
Ratchet straps are your friend
Don’t mean to chuckle EZ but I can’t help it. There’s nothing worse then hydronic oil all over ya….
Why don't u invest in some flame throwers and melt the snow?
That sure would be satisfying
I think a lot of your viewers could see the oil bath happening and by some of the comments are laughing their heads off sorry 😂
You need more bench space...... so you have more work space(and can store more shit).... LOL an image of you putting the pack back in would make a good meme... LOL
That is pretty much exactly the problem every time I put in another work bench it pretty much instantly becomes more storage
Every workbench I have periodically becomes a shelf. Then I have to move the 'glacier' of tools and bits which accumulate slowly but inevitably...
buy a dump truck with a driver you rich
Far from rich and I already have multiple different types of dump trailers
Hydraulic oil stanks
I can think of worse.
I hate to be a downer but please wear your safety glasses.
