Hey Mike, great video. One tip for next time…if you ever have something that was assembled with loctite (especially the red) just use some heat on it before trying to take it apart. It doesn’t take much time or heat from a torch to break the bond of the loctite, and then you can much more easily unscrew the component. Obviously this doesn’t magically make the huge amount of torque you have to apply to break it loose somehow disappear, but it does lessen the time you spend having the fight the loctite the entire way as you take it apart. Hope this helps, keep up the great work you do both in your business as well as in content creation.

Thanks for the video. I gave up trying to do a 6" barrel for my blade lift cylinder because the gland nut was so tight. You can't really do it on the excavator, so I took it to a pro who struggled at first but finally got it done. He used the same pipe wrench and two guys to get it to move. Your suggestion to take pictures is the key to avoiding getting into trouble. A big vise and a steel table bolted to the floor come in handy if it can't be done on the machine. Thanks for mentioning Friday Parts. Finding a resource for the heavy-duty tools was a problem to find.
You have to heat that nut up.

Great job Mike!!! Glad to see you are doing the maintenance before the busy season hits and preventing it from happening during the time a big job is going on I think that’s great!!!! I worked for a contractor that waited until fluid was leaking all over and the men lost time because he’s trying to save money in the long run it cost more because of more damage being done than a repair in the first place that would have cost less!!!! Thank you for providing much useful information. I done several on my Komatsu D31P-17 I bought 18-years ago to build a farm pond. It had 1000-hours on it, now 3500. I am getting older and the cylinders are getting tighter. Did the first rebuild 15 years ago and used a three foot pipe wrench. Did the small tilt cylinder a year ago and needed a four foot pipe wrench. Would not budge with a six foot pipe and two men pulling down on it. I ended up using the front end loader bucket, hydraulically pushing down on the pipe wrench. Thought it slipped off but it broke lose. Now I have the lift cylinder leaking and tried all but the front end loader to break it loose. Will give it a try when my friend shows up later today. Hard to believe, how tight these cylinder parts are. A dozer is fun to have, but maintenance is mandatory every use. I just wanted to use it, and skipped the maintenance, to push a few small trees away from the driveway. First time ever for me, coming back, making a turn, the track came off the front spindle. It took two days, of almost every tool I own to get it back on. Left it off the ground overnight using the front blade, one lift cylinder seal got a serious leak. Pretty much all my fault.

@@DIRT-BOSS I was wondering after you complete the job ! do you just start it up (that's what I do) or try and bleed out some air. I noticed on the lift cylinder front hoses a small square head screw. I did not read anywhere you need to bleed a cylinder, but I have been wrong before. The air must end up in the empty part of the hydraulic oil tank ?
@freddozer1399 yes you could bleed the air but it will self bleed also just don't rev it Up and Go full tilt it goes to the tank but there is a bleeder on the main pump under the floor boards
@@DIRT-BOSS That's great to read. Just so people reading this post understand. When I used the term "bleed" I forgot about the possibility of what could happen, loosening any part of the hydraulic system with the engine running. The Hydraulic Fluid could be under extreme high pressure and would NEVER LOOSEN A LINE OR FITTING WITH ENGINE RUNNING. Thanks again.

D-Boss!…thumbed you up…great hydraulic DIY…that means…Do It Yourself!…I’m no mechanic…but I play one on my equipment…because I can’t wait!…hears the tip of the day for ya and the masses…just about 99.6% of the time all you have to do once you disassemble everything is put your good eye on the packing seals and o-rings and eyeball the inner gland seals and if all looking decent, save yourself the a$&pain and just change the wiper seal and slap it back together and then pound a banquet brew!…usually that’s the problem if it’s weeping a little…is it the right way to do it…No!…but I’ve been cheating lately and I don’t have any more weeping!
I hear you I know guys that do that but if I'm going to take it apart I'm going to put it back together right!

I think it's obvious they come from overseas but that gland nut wrench is the real deal
@@DIRT-BOSS Yea that piston nut tool does look ok and the amount of adjustability is really it's highlight. I purchased a water pump and some other engine components and was pretty disappointed with quality and fitment. Just saying be careful of what's associated with your brand sometimes might not be worth it in the long run.
@@In2investing should always buy OEM especially for the seal kits….I’m not trusting no alibaba…kung fusesium…bombay trading parts!

Great video Mike. I need to replace seals on my dipper cylinder on Case 580SL. When I did the boom cylinder, i had to take somewhere to remove & replace piston nut. Isyour tool from FridayParts the 380mm (15"), 480mm (19") or 620mm (24 1/2") overall length? Thank you

Dude the blue handle channel locks are backwards. I see people do this all the time with different wrenches. Turn them around so the fixed jaw pulls. Same way you did the PIPE WRENCH that you had the cheater bar. Same goes for an adjustable crescent. Use that one backwards and you ruin a lifetime tool for in your lifetime.
