@Hodges1455 thank you, sir! I agree, keeping the collection on point with my focus was the goal. A scarce Grove is always on my list. Thanks for sharing.
Wow! These are very cool! How do you store these?? The oversized stuff gets tougher and tougher to store. Amazing additions! Thanks for the video and thanks for sharing!
@JayAvgVintageCollector honestly, I am very fortunate to have bought a house, with an office area, with built-in shelves that are the exact right height. I more or less stack them and stand them up so they are easy to access and rotate to enjoy the collection. I understand where folks would find these challenging for sure, but where there is a will, there is a way!
@RustyVintageCards thank you, sir. It just blows my mind to grab a 90 year old HOF player item for just over $10. The Grove was kind of a wild cars, but too scarce to let it go.
@@Redneckclector thanks, Joe! The Grove deal is a tough one, but I think both sides did well. We will have to chat watchlist so I can watch out for you too.
@SammyThunder I am not sure I am qualified to speak on that topic with any expertise. I will say, that would be a fun live discussion topic at some point 🤔
Aaron, if you're happy, that is all that counts! I traded the 86 Fleer Jordan in a PSA 7 plus $500 for 49 Bowman Satchel Paige in an SGC 3.5 I needed to complete my 49 Bowman Set. I considered it an even trade from a financial standpoint. However, since I never considered myself a Jordan fan and I have always considered myself a Satchel Paige fan, so the trade was very satisfying for me! I know enough about Worch Cigars to know they are a very scarce item and Lefty Grove is usually always one of the hardest items to acquire in any set. So, for what it's worth, I would line up calling it a fair trade. Thanks for sharing and I hope you enjoy your latest pickup!
@Rocketrickj18 thanks, Rick! Totally agree 💯 From the four sales I can track, I think I did fine. Like you said, scarce and a player I wanted counts for a big part of the motivation. Appreciate you sharing!
You got a great price on the Gabby from eBay, surprised no one bid you up. Those cards don't come up very often. I have the same Gabby panel, but it is missing part of the fancy border.
@Vintage_Dave_T that is probably not the common take on the trade, but I am happy to have something scarce in the collection any day. Thanks for sharing, Dave!
There it is! I wish I had even the slightest avenue to trade. I'd love to trade extra HOFer RCS and modern parallel RCS for other collector's similar items. I would definitely swap up in just about any situation for rare rookie stuff. Many of the cards people view as key cards don't resonate with me, especially if they aren't rookie cards which makes them easy to part with in those cases. I would trade a 1986 card for a prewar card I needed any day, any old time.
@blixcards honestly, most of my deals are with FB groups and net54. Just looking at posts and see cards I want, but can't manage a cash deal. I find dealers appreciate the mainstream cards and I get to move into something that is far more scarce. Worked for the Grove, my Cap Anson, the Hunter Musial card, and one more on the way. Not always easy to work out details, but it can be done for sure.
@@Valuevintagecards-Aaron I think you found a genius way to make moves for rare cards! What you're doing is very intriguing, I'll be rooting for you! I'd go in people's favor pretty heavily in certain cases with trades like that. Well done, sir!
@dmacmsu that is a good point on the scarcity. I don't know enough about how they were distributed. I'm not sure if it is regional or shorter print runs, or just less were saved, perhaps. The value of that set is just crazy when you see how affordable they can be for sure. Keep your eyes peeled. They are worth the hunt.
Incredible stuff. It is astonishing to me that these images were on the back of a wheaties box, and somebody back in the day had the cognizance to carefully cut that thing out. Especially since these things were made for kids. I'm going to have to look into these. The orange is so vibrant. Do you know if the card needs to have border for it to have a high grade (I know, grading is over rated), but I was just curious if these were treated kind of in in the same way as the hostess boxes and their dotted lines. Do you know anything about the photographer of the lefty Grove card?
@CollectingNolan thanks for the thoughtful comments. The second question, I am not sure on the photographer, but those are great images that are fairly unique for that set. As for Wheaties, most are graded an A. There is a line where they will slap a number on it based on the measurements, and borders would be my guess. I quickly found one with a number grade to share. www.ebay.com/itm/276717122891?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=Xky4memYSYG&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=0bw6l87jrqi&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
@cryptonite8495 somewhat sales and comparable players. Only a few transactions showing in online sales, so it was not an easy comp for sure. Very reputable seller too and other cards in that set were easier to comp and his pricing was very fair on those.
Noice. Just get the 96 Fleer Jordan 86 reprint and call it done! Being a vintage and prewar guy like you, 86 vs 96 literally makes no difference to me when you spend majority of your time looking at the 10s and 20s, 1900 that is lol.
@OC-MC_Joe that's a good call! I still have the rookie sticker, a Star, and the Nike, which is honestly my favorite. You are right, it will be tough to go back to a 1986 when I need 1886 players for the baseball side.
Gave a video like. Nothing wrong with trading. It’s about what you will enjoy more. Great additions to the collection. I love those Wheaties panels.

Great Wheaties pickups. The 30% overpayment was well worth it! Also that Robt Grove seems like a solid trade to me. Congrats!
