Davie I am most grateful - thank you for giving of your time and for sending the list of components - much appreciated - hope now I can tie some myself
Seeing that was a tube fly put a smile on my face! I’m going to give them a go for the Dollaghan at night. We’ve been having trouble hooking them at times (no trebles) on small Salmon doubles, big sudden pull that would near take the rod out of your hand or on for a few seconds & off! I think the bigger & older the Dollaghan become the harder their mouth becomes so I’m thinking small short shank Salmon doubles for tubes might give us more hooking power & keep them on! It’s just an idea, we’ll not belong finding out! Lol Anyway keep the videos coming! Cheers again Davie.👍🏻🎣
Hi Davie, thank you for continuing to be the best tyer on the web ! I was interested in trying to dye one of my badger capes in the Flame colour you use. What mix of Veniard dye's do you use to achieve this colour please ? Many thanks again and keep up the great content !
Hi Lindsay, The way I get flame is to use a hot orange and a little red or even flu-red to get flame, the hot orange will set first then the red but watch it closely for the colour you want...Another way I got a lovely flame colour is to start with flu-yellow then hot orange and then a little red which I have done on a badger neck and it turned out really well.. All the very best Davie..
Morning Lindsay, I like to tye them with bucktail myself so I would certainly recommend tye a few using it...I'm glad yo enjoyed the video.. All the very best Davie
If there was ever a sexy fly you just tied it. They are beautiful they are sexy LOL another masterpiece of a video. You are the main man. Thanks for the great channel.
Is the arctic runner fur the same as arctic fox? Very nice fly! When you first started with the big hump between the two different diameters of tubing I would have never imagined you could cover that up. But you did! Very nicely done!
Hi Thomas, I'm glad you liked the fly and thank you for the kind words....Arctic Runner is similar in a way to the Arctic Fox though the hair has become very popular especially with smaller flies and in combination with others hairs like bucktail... All the very best Davie...
Hi Davie what a cracking fly!! .I can't seem to find fluo red coneheads but the description on the franc n snealda website says signature red? Are they the same ?
Hi Craig, I have attached a link to the cones I used in the video, you are right they are just red on his website...I'm glad you liked the fly....All the very best Davie....www.francnsnaelda.com/product/127
Hi Gavin, Most vises now have a rotary action, Dyna King, Regal, HMH, and Renzetti and many more and are liked by many tyers though I would recommend that you try and look at them before you buy or even better go to a fly fair and you will see them being used...There's also lots of videos showing them being used on TH-cam so it would be worth looking through them until the lockdown is over and everything gets back to normal..I'm glad you liked the fly.. All the very best Davie..
Hi Owen, I have to be honest I have a few needles which I have bought over many years and I'm not sure where I got the one I used in the video..I do know though future fly do needles in different lengths like this so I have attached a link to them for you to see.mistpool.com/en/product/3322/futurefly-tubefly-needles.html All the very best Davie
Hi Richard, I'm glad you enjoyed the video, I have attached a link to the Frodin needle which is one of the best that I've used.. ATB Davie.. www.frodinflies.com/layout/info.php?pid=751&p=2&gp=88&level=2&id=66&visitmodule=1
Hey Davie. Just a question on an expression you used in the video. When you seated the hook as a guide to the distance for seating the smaller tube in the larger one, you said something that sounded like you could use the hook as a Steven. Did I hear that right, and if so, what is the meaning or context of that?
Hi Stephen, I said Sleeve, which is a tubing that can be slipped over the back of the tubing to hold the hook in place but in the video I said that you could use the Flu-Orange outer tubing instead as I left enough room inside for this to happen due to me only pushing the clear inner tubing so far.. All the very best Davie....

Davie, what’s the needle you are using in your HMH tube vice? I’ve got the two parallel ones that came with it but I’d like one like the one you are using?
Hi Harry, I have collected many of these needles over the years from different companies and I'm sure this one was a guideline version but they have changed it..I have attached a link to it for you to see.. All the very best Davie.. www.sportfish.co.uk/guideline-f-i-t-s-tube-needle.html

Great fly it’s a good combo of colours excellently tied Davie would be very good in black water 👍
Again enjoyed waching your skills Davie. A real plessure to watch the video and to listen to your comment. Learn a lot from you.
Beauty of a pattern. Looks very good. 🤙🏴
I'm willing to bet the inside of all your fly boxes are all works of art that any of us would kill for! Ugh.
Another great tye and video Davie
Great tip to cut a V into the end of the outer tube to avoid a problematic step-down with the tying thread. 👍🏻

Smashing pattern, attention to detail is first class as always pal.
Beautiful Davie, I can't figure out if you are a artist or engineer, or both. You certainly inspire me.
A true work of art. Handsomely done.
Way beyond my skill level; but hope to get there someday. Nicely done!

Davie McPhail Many thanks. 4 months immobile with a ruptured Achilles and I’m tying like mad! Many thanks for all the videos.
Hi Davie, hope your well. Can I ask what needle you use for you tube flies? None of mine seem to be small enough for liner tubing.
Many thanks.

Thanks Davie, the new one doesn’t look bad as it’ll go in the HMH or fit into the vice on its own.
