North Korea In The Age of Trump

  • VICE Media founder Shane Smith has been traveling to North Korea for years, including during some of the most acrimonious periods in its history. Back in 2018, the country was on a charm offensive and appeared to be slowly emerging from its isolation.
In the wake of a series of inter-Korean summits and the first-ever DPRK-U.S. summit, Smith returns to the Korean peninsula to see how Seoul and Pyongyang are reacting to the new détente.

Dude, I am absolutely disapointed when I realized that its an old video.. I saved it to watch later for my dinner and was so eager to watch this new North Korea episode by Vice. What a shame, why do you guys do this?!

Old, unrelated pieces stuck together to create a 40 minute limbo. What does the 20 wildfire piece have to do with North Korea? If there is you ought to explain it a whole lot better.

I like how the reporter changed since his first visit to North Korea. He seems much more educated on the topic, informed and tactful. His earlier documentaries were interesting too, but this one gives a much deeper insight and room to think about the issue.
But the wildfires piece was unnecessary tho lol

Both of those things, their safety, and their freedoms, are precarious, at best. They are always living on with one foot, inside a prison camp. People there, who do the most mundane thing, ends up in a death camp. Unfortunately, they will never truly have safety and there is less of a chance of them having freedom,...

Not referencing the famines they had, but generally their traditional food in NK seems to be generally healthy stuff like kimchi, not super caloric processed shit like most of us here in the west eats, including myself.
Might not be by choice in their case. But caloric restriction to a certain degree seems to be healthy, from what I've understood.

i don't like how journalist always try to get some government employee to get into some trouble by saying things they shouldn't do,
i mean if they captured you (the journalist) your government, the media, and the people outside would make a big deal out of it
and if they killed you no matter what happen, you would became a hero,
but him(gov employee) would get executed without no-one making a fuss about them, or knowing what happened to them

I almost was offended to hear the hypocrisy of those families PRAYING as they evacuated....1, y they wait so long to evacuate? Y? Because of greed n ignorance....they would put a material asset first before their families safety. N they weigh it out with hopes of suing. N pge walks a fine line to hold on to profits before investing in protection. N after all this blows in their face, they pray. How u think they could afford these houses? For sure their had to be a few pge executives living among them. Idk....paradise, huh?

the fact that utility companies like PG&E have investors that will stop investing now that PG&E will be held liable for these gigantic fires is precisely the reason why it is ridiculous to privatize utilities. It is essentially a monopoly in the state, and it still couldn't operate effectively. It needs to be fully controlled by the government and needs to be heavily regulated so they can properly maintain this dangerous equipment and prevent fires. Treat it like any valuable service: fire departments, roads, public schools, etc.
