For WYR I will take the Auburn Speedster all the way but in the maroon color. And as for the song, I am thinking that it could possibly be "I Love You Today More Than Yesterday" by the Spiral Staircase, or maybe "Make Me Smile" by Chicago. It's probably neither, but I will go with my Chicago selection.
Hahaha I couldn’t believe that nobody else could get it. Everybody else was naming all these other Chicago songs I was like you’re on the right track but it’s not that song. lol congratulations
My great grand parents had a Auburn dealership but never sold the Speedsters. They started with Eckhart carriages and moved to the cars later. Their biggest years were in the 1920’s. A small town in Iowa had the highest Auburn owners per capita .
Hi Jay! What a superior episode, what a superior automobile! The redesign of the Auburn for 1935-36 by Gordon Buehrig produced one of the most beautiful automobiles of the period. Especially the Speedster. I know the speedster was rare, but that super-charged coupe is really rare!! Would be SO COOL if one of those still exists! I have to just pick ALL OF THEM on both WYR's!! Those are the cream of the crop of 1930's cars! (Maybe a Bugatti 57 SC added to the list!)
Hey Jeffrey, I’m so happy you dig this episode. I put a lot of time and energy into it. I’m sure that it reflected. It’s crazy that they made this car with absolutely no budget. Meaning, no money. It just proves that sometimes the best things in life. Don’t need to cost a ton of money, but still look very elegant very beautiful and gorgeous… I still want to build a speedster one day, but I don’t want to have a whole lot of money take the Auburn speedster approach I’m not going to it’s going to be fenderless but I’m sure I could probably build one with fenders wife willing of course.. I’ve always wanted a car like a type 35 Bugatti but I can’t afford one of those so I’ve been looking for a chassis but I don’t have the time for the resources to build one now I was hoping to maybe next year.. I have way too many projects going on. Awesome choices
Thank you so much I’m really proud of this episode but man did it take a long time to put together. I have like 2 1/2 days invested in this which is a whole lot more time than I generally do. I usually have it down to about eight hours of video, the editing took a while also wanted to research as much as possible. I love Auburn as a company. I really wanted to do something other than the speedster as the first episode because the speedster eclipses everything else they ever did not to say that it’s not a great car because it is but they made some stellar cars besides this one.
Pretty sure an Auburn SC 851 was the car featured in the 1937 movie "Topper". Unless they were using sound effects back then, not only did it look great the exhaust sound was amazing.
I’ve never heard one run before the only ones I’ve ever seen in person. Besides, this one is replicas some are way better than others. I saw a replica a show that I had a double take because it looked like a legit Auburn speedster the body was pretty close to identical, somebody don’t look anything like the Auburn speedster does but this one looks pretty close.. think factory five Shelby cobra those are close to a rear Shelby not the same but close. Only noticed it was a replica whenever I looked underneath the hood and saw a 350 in the engine bay the replica that I saw, I had an engine, turned dash but it was still really nice car for a replica
@@mikew6765 No, I suspect not, but they were in reruns in the 60s, and I was very sickly as a child, so I got to watch a lot of fairly obscure shows and movies. I developed a love of Film Noir, via this medium. I was Eight years old.
Never saw a real one but built the kit back in the early 80's on a Ford LTD chassis and put a T-bird 460" in it. Car drew people like flies to a cow pie. As a teenager I did see the Cord roadster as the neighbors uncle had one he would drive over once in a while. He also had a beautiful Pierce Arrow roadster.
When i think of 30's luxury, these are one of these things or a Cord I picture, whisking away a couple, man in tux, lady in chiffon, heading to the streamlined train to Chicago, or the Queen Mary to sail to the UK for "holiday"... WYR: 1) Auburn 2) Gotta go Cord... love that snout! Beautiful car!
Awesome cords are so nice it’s a car I would like to own the 4 doors are surprisingly affordable for what they are ( non supercharged) I would love to get a time machine and go back Normandy is an ocean liner I wish I could see. Even though that comes later. It’s really sad the SS United States is in Philadelphia Harbor just rusting away. It’s amazing that nobody wanted to save that, fastest ocean in the world.
@@What.its.like. Don't even get me going on the United States. I've always said if I were to hit the Powerball or MegaMillions, that ship would be restored, rebuilt and relocated to NYC as a floating hotel/museum, with a hefty investment fund to keep her financially stable. The only significant difference I would demand is that there would be a '50s diner-esque eatery onboard named after my Mom 🙂 Ever been to the Queen Mary in Long Beach? Go, if not. Spend a few days there! I've also sailed on the QM2 a few times, have another sailing booked for next year... amazing ship!
@draggonsgate I want to go see the Queen Mary I’ve never been there. I’ve been to California but it was half a lifetime ago I was only there one time we couldn’t even find the Hollywood sign. I remember driving around with dad and mom and my dad would say how hard can it be to find the freaking Hollywood sign it’s on the side of the mountain we couldn’t find it… lol before GPS I would do a couple episodes on oceanliners outside of what we generally do SS United States would be a really good one. I don’t know who you would get in contact with to see it up close in person. It looks like a ghost ship.. if I ever won the lottery, I can think of 1 million things that I would do. I would love to bring back some things around here that are gone to history Islays Do you watch ocean line designs he has a epic channel
@@What.its.like. Mike has an awesome channel! He just did a two-parter on the Olympic/Titanic swap conspiracy. I love the mid 50's Italian liners.... they looked like they were flying standing still. My fav ship (other than QM2... and don't you dare laugh...) is the Carnival Elation. In all her tacky, glitzy 1980's Las Vegas decor... LOL. She was the first ship I cruised on, and I am booked for my 15th sailing on her this coming February. I don't like the big mega-ships they're coming out with now. I think I was born too late... I would've loved pulling up in my '59 Lincoln to board the United States, or catch a non-stop Super Constellation to the coast... or party in Vegas with the Ratpack... If I could take our social advances back to then, I'd be a happy camper 🙂
You've mentioned two of my top museums. ACD and Gilmore are both incredible and worth several visits. The Auburn Speedster is rolling art and performance - what an incredible machine! WYR: 1935 Auburn (yes, I know, several people just fainted), 1935 Auburn/1937 Cord in a tie - two of my lifelong dream cars. Thank you, and sorry I'm so late, well done as always ~ Chuck
I need to go to the ACD great choices I did almost fall over because it is usually the Packard, but this is on a totally different spectrum. I can’t believe how tall it was great choices.
Wow, what a beautiful car! I'm impressed with the amount of research you do for your vids. Duesenberg and Auburn used inline engines, so the exhaust appears on one side only. The Cord 812 had a V8, so it had pipes out of both sides. Glenn Pray also built replica Cords, but they were 8/10ths as big as the original, so it was named the 8/10, and used a Corvair power train mounted in front, and had front wheel drive. If it had a turbo, it had the dual outside pipes, just like the original. And the body was called Royalex, a kind of plastic pioneered by U.S Rubber (later Uniroyal). WYR= absolutely all of them. I was under the impression that Mr. Jenkins' first name was Ab, probably short for Abner. One of your best videos yet!
Awesome choices you can’t go wrong with any of them these were the best cars in my opinion from the day I didn’t include the Chrysler airflow because it’s kind of on a different spectrum.. but I think that’s one of the best art deco cars in its own, right I did a ton of research for this episode. It took me two or three days of research and it took me about as long to put the episode together in contrast it generally takes me eight hours of research plus putting the script together plus editing I can usually do all that eight hours , depending on the car, some cars are easier to research than others.. sometimes I don’t go in depth as much as I did with this one, because it was the first car from that brand that we featured on the channel.. I believe today’s episode is going to be early Lincoln V8s Leland, V8 and the model K v8 I got most of the script wrote I just gotta find a couple more pieces of information I wanted to do an engine company like kohler or Cummins but maybe next week I look forward to reading your comments because you’re one that always comments on all the videos that I do. Everybody that does TH-cam does it for a different reasons I love the community I love interacting with you guys. It’s one of my favorite things to do and I don’t understand why more people don’t… when I say I’m just a regular person just a regular guy I really truly mean it
wyr Del wyr Largo These are all fantastic cars. I thought the Auburn had exhaust on each side. Surprise, surprise. The car was built on the cheap and here I thought it was the product of very, very deep pockets. Thx Jay
WYR: As a A-C-D fan, I'll go with the Auburn and the Cord. I actually saw a genuine Boattail Speedster in the (semi) wild. I was on my way to a car show in Granite Falls, NC and came upon the car off the road on a curve. Did a quick U-turn and stopped a little ways behind it with my flashers on (since of course his car had none). Turns out he ran out of gas shortly after leaving the show and had called back to the show to get someone to bring some gas. I sat there till the sag wagon arrived ! He seemed impressed that I knew as much about the car as I did. We talked about the A-C-D museum which he'd attended during their annual festival. Told him that the 810/812 was one of my all-time favorite cars and the Boattail Speedster was up there, but hampered by the number of reproductions.
Art Deco styling is still the best!! 🎉🎉. 🎨 That Auburn is truly a gorgeous car, for the looks I would pick it over all the rest. I missed my chance at buying an Auburn. Some of my mom's friends had one just sitting up on blocks in their garage. They drove it 34 miles and decided to take the street car! Glad you got to enjoy that beautiful boat tailed Auburn Jay, and thank you for the grand tour of all of the details, a fascinating history of the wranglings in the automotive world 🌎.
Thank you so much Chuck I’m glad you dig this episode. What body style Auburn did you pass up the chance of buying what power plant was it and what year Auburn made some really gorgeous cars I was actually hoping the feature something other than the speedster but I really wanted the feature at least one Auburn this year I might do a Duesenberg I was going to wait until the base got a little bit bigger but i’ve passed up a couple opportunities to feature. Duesenberg’s one was at the Gilmore this past trip. I can’t say that when I go to the Auburn cord and Duesenberg museum hopefully in August for their shindig that I’m not going to cover at least one I’m hoping the base will be a little bit bigger by then only because it seems like the heavy hitters don’t do well on this channel.. it doesn’t get any bigger of a hitter than Duesenberg, except for maybe a delayhe or Bugatti
@@What.its.like. It was decades ago, Joe and Harriet had an early 30's Auburn which they offered, but I didn't travel down to Chicago to visit so I don't know the model. I was young and foolish! Probably a more practical model. Just do the Dusenburg, they get covered a lot but not with the details you provide! Plenty of custom coach builders. There are other companies out there, just thinking... have you done J.I. Case? Lambert? Cudel? Oshkosh Truck made a 4 wheel drive car in the 20's as I recall, maybe a prototype. Welch? Great Smith? Mercury Cycle car? Firetrucks are cool too, and plenty of polished brass.. I know you have covered some of these, just thinking about what sells.. 🔔 bells and whistles!
=) I haven’t covered any of those car you mentioned.. The goal is to cover at least one car from every lost and forgotten manufacturer while covering everything else between 1930-64 =)
For WYR, it’s the Auburn, and the Cord….I’ve always liked that front end. Another great car video. You always pay attention to every curve, which this car has plenty of. And that back end is something to look at, right down to that license plate light!
These cars had style and class I tried to show every single curve every single detail for anybody putting these cars back together what they are supposed to look like where the trim parts go, etc. plus they’re just art. I love this new camera it shows every single line every single detail in more depth than a GoPro. Awesome choices
Thank you for all you do in making these videos! A brother-in-law has been a respected car show judge for over 50 years and introduced me to the love of automobiles since I was a pre-teen. I remember seeing Auburn an 851 and loving the lines. but I would pick the 1933 Silver Arrow if I had a choice. I truly desire brass era cars the most however the choices you offered up are all wonderful machines! Thanks again!
Thank you so much for all the positive positive vibes, I greatly appreciate it. I’m so happy that I get to do this. This is all I’ve ever wanted to do every single job that I’ve ever had just talk about obscure cars that don’t exist anymore… I really want to cover the silver arrow one day but I’m pretty sure there’s only three left. I think they only made five…
I love the cord 810 812 that’s actually a car that I would really consider owning because I fit in it. I’ve never gotten the opportunity to drive one. There was one for sale not too far from here. There was a couple things not original with it, but they only wanted 45 grand for it four-door a real one which is not a bad price for that
I saw an Auburn at my local annual classic car show one year. Not sure of the year of the car, so I won't guess. It was a boat tail model painted orange cream and cream, two tone. Fabulous! After watching more, I'm sure it was a speedster. This is it! The '35 Speedster! It took me awhile to get it. One more thing, haha, this car was also erotic in its styling. There! I said it. Finally, I like the bloopers amongst other humorous things. Easier to type amongst than speak it.
Awesome choices. Thank you so much for sharing those memories of seeing this car in the wild, and not knowing exactly what it was until seeing it a second time I love showing the bloopers a lot of people think it’s one take, all of these episodes are very clipped together because I will be honest I’m not the best at talking I’m still trying to find a delivery method in which works which I get criticized all the time for being AI but I’m not my voice.. just sucks .. and I’m 100% aware of that it’s something that I’ve struggled with. I don’t have the best voice in the world… So I’ve been trying to make it a little bit more interesting a little bit easier to listen to something I work on.. but I try not to let people bring me down because I’m always a happy to go lucky glasses, always half full type of person Anyway, happy you dig this episode
Years ago I got to go to the ACD museum. Met an older docent there. He was most knowledgeable about the marque. During the tour, one of the younger folks working there told me there was a reason he knew so much. HE worked there back in the day as an engineer and auto tester. He was also one of the guys (not Mr Jenkins) who tested the cars to make sure they could go 100 MPH... The guy in Oklahoma literally ahs all the spares and occasionally restores or spits out a car now and again.... About the Cord V12, it was designed by Fred Duesenberg! 33 Pierce Arrow (wow, really not fair) 37 Cord (the Auburn up class stablemate)
Thank you so much for sharing that story what great information and a great memory I really need to go there. I’m hoping to go there in August for the shindig that they put on. I believe it’s Labor Day weekend. The next weekend is the old car show at the Greenfield Village which I’m not missing for the world. That is the best show that I’ve ever been to if you have the opportunity to go I’ll meet you up there. .. lol It’s really like taking a trip back in time. Absolutely incredible weekend. Great choices. I’m so happy that you enjoyed this episode.
My Grandfather was a worker in the interior trim shop at Auburn and I wish that he was still around to comment on the interior of this Speedster. Something worth noting is that in the early 1930's Auburn sales and it's position in the market actually improved! One of the things that bothers me about Auburn is that the average Auburn was not nearly as luxurious as this Speedster or most of the cars you see in collections. My Grandfather bought a 1936 651 sedan but you rarely see these and it's hard to find a 'run of the mill' Auburn any where. By the way, while all the late production Auburns and Cords were assembled At Central Manufacturing in Connersville, the 'open' bodys were made at Union Auto Body in Union City and shipped to Central Manufacturing in Connersville. Only the 'hardtop' models were built entirely at Connersville. After Aubrun shut down the Packard Darren cars were made at Central in Connersville and they went on to stamp bodies for Jeeps on into the 1950's.
Thank you so much for sharing all of that information. I really wanted to cover a lesser known Auburn as the first Auburn ever covered on this channel. I really wanted to cover a six cylinder to be honest but as you mentioned they were so hard to find, and it kind of sucks in a way that the speedster just eclipses everything else that that company did they made great cars besides the speedster As you mentioned researching this episode, I came across other dashboards to other Auburn cars and they wasn’t this caliber. The supercharged cars got this dashboard if you got the 851 you got a different dashboard and it wasn’t as nice it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t this dashboard… I didn’t see what the 653 dash looked like. I’m hoping to cover at least one more Auburn before the year is over. I really want to find a six cylinder.
@@What.its.like. i was at a car show in Connersville and someone brought an un-restored, very rough looking 1933 Auburn sedan. It is the only car I've seen that was not a deluxe model that the brand has become known for. Modern builders have named limited production cars "halo models" and Cord understood the value of these very well when he ran Auburn. These exciting models were how he kept his dealers loyal in the depression. My Grandfather's 36 sedan was a working man's car but was still something 'special' to my Mother who had little experience with anything but Fords.
Wow! What else can you say? I really enjoyed the Auburn history. Everyone has heard of the Auburn Speedster, but little else. Auburn Cord Duesenberg should be remembered. My mother never forgave her first husband for selling their Cord 812 salon, but the electric pre-select shift was too fiddly for him. I don’t scorn the replicas. They are how the memories of these cars live on.
Awesome =) happy you dig this episode There’s companies that make stellar Auburn replicas, and then there’s other companies that they don’t look as good same thing with the cord I’ve seen replicas that look identical to the real ones until you look in the interior and I’ve seen other ones that aren’t good
Fantastic styled car., First choice Packaed LeBaron speedster , second 35 Auburn speedster, and throw in a 60's Jaguar XKE to go with the Auburn for a companion, both outstanding styled cars.
Great choices =) This car was absolutely impressive in person. It’s a very tall car. When you think of a speedster usually they’re low sung this one sits up high.
Awesome choices this car was absolutely epic in person. It is also taller than you think it’s very intimidating especially when it’s in a room with a bunch of other cars I called it $1 million room at the Gilmore
Dude! You definitely did your homework here! Excellent job Justin! Stunning Auburn! Have a trip to Indiana planned yet to visit Auburn in person and then on to South Bend to the Studebaker museum? WYR: 1. Gotta go with Pierce 2. Auburn! Enjoyed the bloopers at the end!
Haha yeah Maybe one day I’ll set up a camera behind me and show you how I actually do it. I’m not the best of talking it’s all clipped together with multiple takes each episode. Yeah, this one I wanted to do the total Auburn story I would really love to cover another auburn body style before this year is over I’m going to really try to go to the Auburn cord and Duesenberg shindig in Auburn Indiana in August. I’ll get the exact dates I’ll promote it on this channel going to a couple other shows which I will also promote on this channel and I promote them because maybe people don’t know that it’s going on or whatever. Also if you’d like to come out and meet me I am just a regular person. I can’t stress that enough so many people when I get TH-cam, it turns into whose D is the biggest and I’m not about that .
Such a gorgeous “cad’s car,” as Leno puts it! 😛 I hope you do both of those Duesenbergs on either side soon! Especially the SJ with the rare eight port exhaust pipes to the Auburn’s left.
Haha love Leno =) I did not do a Duesenberg while I was there. I wanted to grow the base a little bit before I start it after some of the really heavy hitters not to say that this isn’t a heavy hitter because it definitely is. I’m hoping to go to the Auburn Cord and Dusenberg museum this year. I would really love to cover one there… Just to be clear, I’m not the type of person that goes after the TH-cam algorithm I go after what my base likes and it seems like my base likes the weird and obscure cars that never get covered so I’ve just been kind of putting it off. I absolutely love Duesenberg, but that is the pinnacle that is the zenith of what the greatest company that ever came out of America was it never got any better than that, some could argue and say White a really really superior brand which they were as well as crane simplex, but those companies came before Duesenberg… simplex was gone when Duesenberg became the absolute legend it was
Delahaye I could look at 😱 Packard Speedster I could enjoy every sunshinny day 😊 Last time I was at Auburn Restorations they were plenty of parts and producing body parts 🤔.. Johnny Cash built his car one piece at a time 😂.. Happy Motoring ✌️🤠
Oh wow! I didn’t know Johnny Cash had one and he built it one piece at a time. That’s a crazy story. Great choices that delahaye is something I really want to feature one. I’m not entirely sure when I’ll get to it foreign cars don’t do well on this channel for some reason I wanna do that for me lol.
Thank you they are all mostly like this, this one went a little deeper history, specs, design, pros and cons, would you rather =) glad you dig this one
Awesome choices, there was almost a couple other options in there as well like a delage Bugatti, but those cars are a fortune not to say that Talbots are cheap
Just like the Shelby Cove Brothers, all kinds of companies that make replicas of this car, some look identical to the actual car until you get to the interior and underneath the hood and others don’t look as good to put it nicely Broken arrow Oklahoma is doing the Auburn too. It’s a more modern version of the original car. Great choices
I love these. The maroon color of this one is beautiful but I prefer the yellow one at the A-C-D museum. I'd take the Auburn SC 851 in both scenarios although all of the other cars are pretty awesome, particularly the Packard LeBaron Aero Coupe.
Sweet choices I’m right there with you I love the arrow coupe. I would love to do an episode on one, but that is a super tall order considering they only made four of them in 1934. I would like to do some heavy hitters like that this year. This Auburn is definitely a heavy hitter. =)
Excellent episode, Jay. One of my all time favorite cars. As to your comment about today's cars being appliances, that is so true with all the cookie cutter crap driving around. Bean counters with no soul or imagination run car companies today.
Happy you dig this one. I put a lot of time into this one. I think it really shows. =) I’m not saying today’s cars are bad they’re just appliances. They cost a fortune to buy and when they break if it’s some thing catastrophic, it is cheaper to buy another one like an appliance but to be 100% fair and honest I have not owned any of these new cars the newest car that I’ve ever owned ever was 2016 we just bought a 2011 Honda Odyssey Minivan loaded the only thing it doesn’t have is the keyless entry system because it wasn’t around at that point in time but it has literally everything else I might do a review on it. I might compare it to a 2006 EXL as a buyers guide for anybody that’s looking to buy one of those, but I’ve decided that I want this to be a classic because I’m not really interested in new cars. There are a couple outliers also the only two channels that have successfully done classic cars and modern cars without affecting their base is Doug DeMuro and Jay Leno everyone else that tries usually loses their audience because it’s so spread out so the focal point on this channel is going to be 1920 through 1970s and will do some earlier stuff eventually, I would like to get an 88 Lincoln town car just to show how awesome that car is because on paper it doesn’t look anything spectacular. It was one of my favorite cars of all time that I’ve ever owned.
I grew up in Auburn. was a great little town. Once a year (usually on Labor Day weekend) many of the owners would bring their cars back to town. We would walk uptown and wonder around the court house and see all of them. Then... like may things money became involved and Kruse Auction decided to have a car auction on Labor Day. I rode my bike to the very first auction.... in the field just west of where the current Dairy Queen now stands. Was a rainy day and the event was conducted in a large military tent. Including me ... there was about 50 people there. Little did I know this was the beginning of the end of an awesome hometown event. Now it is all about money! Very sad. My Grandpa owned an Auburn... was not his favorite car. Auburn was a great little town..... I have nothing but, fond memories of growing up there.
Thank you so much for sharing those memories Your story brings to mind something that happened in my life time there is a show in Pittsburgh called the vintage Grand Prix it was a epic show and used to be on a donation basis... and spectators were free they used to have food donated from shop and save and was a donation, that was 10 years ago Now it's turned into a giant money grab it's $60 at least to show a car as long as you don't have a exotic car ( I have a friend who has a Citroen and it cost him $200 just because he has French car) I know they give the money to charity but if your just starting out and you just built the car and want to show it, I personally don't think it should cost money.. idk so many egos just to put their name on it giving a million dollars to an organization... I'm with you and it's going to kill the hobby Plus they let dealers promote which I don't have a problem with but there is very few vintage cars the only thing vintage about it is in name alone.. needless to say I don't go to it anymore... not impressed
Another one of your landmark reviews, Jay! I'd hate to drive one of these in traffic nowadays, would probably cause a number of accidents by distracting other drivers. I hope you get to visit the Nethercutt Museum in the metro L.A. region sometime. I don't think those side-pipes are for exhaust...seem to recall that they direct air to the supercharger. WYR: 1 - Auburn 2 - Cord.
Thank you great choices There’s a lot of museums that I need to hit. I want to go to California so bad I wanted to go to Monterey pebble Beach for over 10 years now, I definitely want to go to the Peterson. I’m not not sure when I’m gonna get the chance to go to California. It probably won’t be until next year at the earliest it might even be the year after that I’m going to try to go to the ACD this year, especially for their shindig in August. I really want to go…
Those are all cars that I would love to feature on the channel eventually I know there’s only three of those silver arrows left so that’s a tall order but at least I’m pretty sure all of them are in museums so it’s just finding out which museums they’re in.. so one day =)
@@What.its.like. have been a classic car fan for many years, first saw photos of the Pierce Silver Arrow in a book I bought 40+ yrs ago(still have it)and was amazed at the styling, craftsmanship and price-same with Auburn cars(851, Auburn V12) ,here in NZ we have a Cord convertible at the Southward car museum,a beautiful car which I first saw 30 yrs ago and now recently restored and in full working order thanks for the Auburn post much appreciated Auckland New Zealand 2024
That’s Ab Jenkins not A.B. Jenkins. Ab, along with Augie Duesenberg was the creator of the world famous Mormon Meteor land speed racer at the Bonneville Salt Flats.
You should review a 1950 or 51 Bullet nose Studebaker, they’re probably my favorite Studebakers because the styling is so unique compared to everything else of that era
There is one in the pipeline I’m not entirely sure when it’s going to be on the channel. I think I’m going to try to do that after the Chrysler royal I want to do the Chrysler royal tomorrow.
All the A-C-D cars of the thirties were the most beautiful cars of the classic period , if not all time. I always loved the boat tail rear end of the Auburn Speedster, the '37 Cord 812, and of course the Duesenbergs , especially the model J. I too was surprised to see only 4 exhaust pipes on one side of the hood. I thought there was 4 on each side. Obviously each pipe served two cylinders ( save money ?) WYR 1 1935 Auburn Speedster, WYR 2 the 1937 Cord 812. The others while attractive in their own right, especially the Packards, they are not in the same class as A-C-D cars.
I had no problem with your pronunciation of Auburn, but I'm also from the 'Burgh. My thing is Packard, although this video about Auburn was excellent! You did a great job! Hint: There used to be a Packard dealership/factory(?) on Baum Blvd. Look it up.(not sure what it is now)
Sweet choices I’ve gotten corrected in the past for how I say it, but I tried saying it the other way I can’t say it like that even in the blooper I wasn’t saying it how you’re supposed to say it I guess
You have almost 41,000 subs. Not bad. But, as with all things, the more you have, the more you get. Your enthusiasm for the cars and your diligence in researching them, will be many more subs for your channel. You can bet on that.
Thank you so much for the positive vibes.. I’m not worried about subscriber count we will get there when we get there ( just a false representation of how big someone’s channel is ) I’m just focused on making a good product the rest will follow the in time.. I love that this is a car community I never want to lose that aspect I love interacting with all of you and just don’t know why more people don’t do that.. I love these machines and want to put out as much information as I can for people who can afford to buy them so they know what what they are getting into.. happy you still dig this channel

I love Ed’s reviews, truth be told after watching ed, rare classic cars, Doug demuro jay leno they all inspired me to do this… cars from 20s-60s don’t get the coverage they deserve

"Hey, do you think you can do a car with this old junk we've got laying around?" "I don't know, I guess so. What kind of budget do I have to work with?" "Here's my lunch money, I'm not really hungry today." And from this conversation comes one of the most beautiful and desirable cars ever made 😎 OK, it probably didn't quite go like that but you'd have expected more of a cobbled-together frankenstein than this gorgeous car which shows not one hint of it's austere background, truly a real-life rags to riches thing. Like so many others have said I didn't know the exhaust pipes were drivers-side only and I expected it to be lighter as well given it's performance which was nothing short of amazing for it's time. WYR the Delahaye is swoopy and classy as is the Pierce Arrow and the Packard a classic, but the Auburn wins hands down. #2 the Cord is iconic but once again there is nothing which can match the Auburn SC 851, a gourmet meal assembled from leftovers 😁 Unsubbed and resubbed but still not getting notifications here or for several other channels I follow. I'm beginning to think that TH-cam hates me!
I don’t know why the notification thing isn’t working.. TH-cam is a big place. When I try to explain how things are my channel is like a candle compared to a lot of other channels it might have upgraded to a mini flash, but in the very early days it was a candle., actually in the early days it was probably a mini match.. anyway, like I said TH-cam is a huge place. I don’t remember exactly what the statistic was of the amount of content being added every single minute but it’s astounding… I love your take on this car. I didn’t need to eat lunch today. Hahaha this car is absolutely incredible and what they were able to do with absolutely no money is a testament that nothing really needs to be expensive to be beautiful. At $52,000 back in the day it was affordable unfortunately it was during a time when most Americans couldn’t even put food on the table let alone think about buying a new car… and that is the biggest issue with all of the cars from this era. Frankly Great choices =)
1937 however was not the end of E. L. Cord - he went on to make another fortune in real estate and dabbled in Nevada politics. This guy did end up with rainbows and unicorns. You should hit the ACD museum; it is as stunning, though different, as the Gilmore. Don't skip the extensive collection beyond the main showroom / lots of rare stuff there too. The 851 was truly a masterpiece of design and (relatively) affordable for what you got - though of course not really practical - you needed to be a 'man about town' with other vehicles in your home garage (mainted by someone else of course), or a Hollywood star. WYR: you're right, this is just not fair. 1) Silver Arrow - and money is a factor here, since there are only 3 of them in the world today 2) The Talbot-Lago - that is even more of a rolling work of art.
EL cord went on thank you so much for sharing that information and insight I need to go to the ACD i’m really hoping to go there this year for the Auburn cord and Duesenberg shindig.. that building/showroom looks absolutely stunning. That’s the way a dealership should be in my opinion chandeliers pillars just pure atmosphere.. Great choices Did you ever notice the Bugatti type 57 and the Talbot-lago as well as Delahaye all made the same body shape car with different front ends
Could you imagine driving this car what it would be like it would be like you’re an instant celebrity For the 500th episode when a feature of the truck and do it proper I’m also going to tie in another kind of episode. I would love to do an episode on what it’s like to actually own a Classic Car because a lot of people don’t know you do feel like a celebrity.
@@What.its.like. I could really imagine that, What a special type of buzz. Even 0s and 70s cars and their drivers get a little wave and thumbs up from me, which is always acknowledged.
See? That's my favorite thing about you Jay! You do your homework! I see plenty of guys your age here on TH-cam that review old cars and they know nothing about it. (I'm looking at you Doug D, and many others)! And even worse, they often end up making fun of it, judging it by modern standards, and take it completely out of historical context! Imbeciles! I watched a kid review a 64 New Yorker today and he ridiculed the handling of a 60 year old car that had obviously NOT been restored and appeared not to be well maintained! Of course without restoration or maintenance a 60 year old car is going to handle poorly! Truth is, a 64 Chrysler, in it's prime, was a good handling road car! That seemed to be lost on that D-bag! Wish you could drive more of the cars you review though, to have the full experience!
I used to watch Doug DeMuro all the time. I think I know the other channel that you’re talking about as well.. is it shooting cars??… too many car, TH-camrs want to compare the classic stuff with the modern stuff. I’m not into the modern stuff personally, I think they’re appliances and when I say that I genuinely mean that. Most people my age will compare the experience to a new car. Doug will give it a score based on new cars which I don’t think is right… Maybe one day we could get into driving more cars but I worked at Classic Car dealership one summer and I found out that you could have two cars that are identical and every single way, but they won’t drive the same because everything wears out differently .. so my experience might be different than your experience. I’m truly passionate about this stuff I was born in the wrong time period. And I try to provide as much information as I possibly can because I want to see these cars being used, I have been called the Doug Demuro of classic cars lol. I’m super stoked about this year for the channel and I’m so happy you still dig this channel after years of doing it..
@@What.its.like. Your passion comes through Jay! Yep, you guessed the other channel correctly. I hate new cars too! In fact, after just paying a grand to replace a "module" on my car, that quit "communicating" with the other "modules" I'm considering looking for an 82 Crown Vic or something like it! So sick of these rough-riding, hard seated, techmobiles! Will always be a fan of your channel Dude! Keep up the excellent work you do!
Money has changed him and it’s sad… he isn’t what he used to be… honestly that’s one of my biggest fears, but I don’t think I’ll change… and the reason is, in another life I used to work retail I was a nobody eventually I got a management job and I remember people saying people change when they become managers because power goes to there head. And I was like I’m not a jerk I’ll be the same person. After having the job for a few years that person, that said those things said I was right the power didn’t go to my head idk youtube sort of becomes a popularity contest to some.. I really want to collaborate with other youtube channels I’ve reached out to Paul shin, rare classic cars, shooting cars a few others, Paul is the only one that ever got back and pretty much said no in the nicest way possible.. idk I willing to work with anyone just wish it was the same across the board… Modern cars should be getting 40 mpg with direct fuel injection and computer control but they don’t. Hell I get 20 mpg on the hwy in my 52 Chevy that has a 350 v8 (373 rear end) and it will go hwy speed cross country wagons got 32 back in the 50s and that’s what this channel is an eye opener people thing old cars get bad gas mileage and some of them do but one can change out the rear end and drastically improve it I’ve read where a guy change the rear on a bullet bird powered by a 390 and he gets 28 on the hwy
Also wanted to add everybody does TH-cam for different reasons some people do it to be famous some people do it for money some people do it for clout.. the reason I do it is I genuinely care about the Classic Cars. I want to see these cars on the road. The other reason is I want a community genuinely that’s why interact with you guys I think it’s one of the best things in the world and I don’t understand why more people don’t do it… So many people claim to have a community, but they don’t ever interact with their community so it almost seems like it’s fake.. that is the biggest insult that anybody can ever give me is that I’m fake, because I do everything that I possibly can to show them a real person and that I care =)
Awesome choices =)
And congratulations you got it make me smile Chicago
I wouldn't have guessed either song.

I couldn’t believe that nobody else could get it.
Awesome, that’s so cool do you have any of the cars left in the family?
Don’t need to cost a ton of money, but still look very elegant very beautiful and gorgeous…
I still want to build a speedster one day, but I don’t want to have a whole lot of money take the Auburn speedster approach I’m not going to it’s going to be fenderless but I’m sure I could probably build one with fenders wife willing of course.. I’ve always wanted a car like a type 35 Bugatti but I can’t afford one of those so I’ve been looking for a chassis but I don’t have the time for the resources to build one now I was hoping to maybe next year.. I have way too many projects going on.
Awesome choices
Another excellent review, Jay. I really enjoyed the tour of this car! It's just so classically sporty and beautiful.
Topper was also made into a TV series, which I found hilarious in reruns when I was a kid.
@@Steven-p4j I remember that it was a TV show but I don't think I ever watched it. Bet they didn't have an SC 851.
@@mikew6765 Probably not.

Awesome thank you for sharing those memories =)
When i think of 30's luxury, these are one of these things or a Cord I picture, whisking away a couple, man in tux, lady in chiffon, heading to the streamlined train to Chicago, or the Queen Mary to sail to the UK for "holiday"... WYR: 1) Auburn 2) Gotta go Cord... love that snout! Beautiful car!
Awesome cords are so nice it’s a car I would like to own the 4 doors are surprisingly affordable for what they are ( non supercharged)
I would love to get a time machine and go back Normandy is an ocean liner I wish I could see.
I remember driving around with dad and mom and my dad would say how hard can it be to find the freaking Hollywood sign it’s on the side of the mountain we couldn’t find it… lol before GPS
I would do a couple episodes on oceanliners outside of what we generally do SS United States would be a really good one. I don’t know who you would get in contact with to see it up close in person. It looks like a ghost ship.. if I ever won the lottery, I can think of 1 million things that I would do. I would love to bring back some things around here that are gone to history Islays

The license plate light, is , absolutely, outstanding.
Awesome choices you can’t go wrong with any of them these were the best cars in my opinion from the day I didn’t include the Chrysler airflow because it’s kind of on a different spectrum.. but I think that’s one of the best art deco cars in its own, right
I did a ton of research for this episode.
I believe today’s episode is going to be early Lincoln V8s Leland, V8 and the model K v8
I got most of the script wrote I just gotta find a couple more pieces of information I wanted to do an engine company like kohler or Cummins but maybe next week
I look forward to reading your comments because you’re one that always comments on all the videos that I do. Everybody that does TH-cam does it for a different reasons I love the community I love interacting with you guys. These are all fantastic cars. I thought the Auburn had exhaust on each side. Surprise, surprise.
The car was built on the cheap and here I thought it was the product of very, very deep pockets.
Thx Jay
Great choices. Yeah, I can’t believe how affordable this car was. Problem was nobody had money whenever it was on sale.
I love a boat tail!
Awesome story thank you so much for sharing those memories with us
Ive been to the auburn deusenberg cord museum in auburn indiana ! Its totally awesome ! A must visit !
Awesome I need to go out there. I think I’m gonna try to go out to the Auburn court and Duesenberg shindig in August.
Undoubtedly, but, definitely, a unique, unprecedented, unparalleled, unmatched masterpiece.
Great explanation =) totally agree
Truly a special car, with the attention to detail which was rare at the time. 'High Class', is how I would describe it.
Totally agree
What an absolutely stunning looking automobile. And fast too! I will take an Auburn over a coffin nose Cord anytime.
Thank you so much for sharing those memories of seeing this car in the wild, and not knowing exactly what it was until seeing it a second time
I love showing the bloopers a lot of people think it’s one take, all of these episodes are very clipped together because I will be honest I’m not the best at talking I’m still trying to find a delivery method in which works which I get criticized all the time for being AI but I’m not my voice.. just sucks .. and I’m 100% aware of that it’s something that I’ve struggled with. I don’t have the best voice in the world… So I’ve been trying to make it a little bit more interesting a little bit easier to listen to something I work on.. but I try not to let people bring me down because I’m always a happy to go lucky glasses, always half full type of person

33 Pierce Arrow (wow, really not fair)
37 Cord (the Auburn up class stablemate)

Awesome =) happy you dig this episode
There’s companies that make stellar Auburn replicas, and then there’s other companies that they don’t look as good same thing with the cord I’ve seen replicas that look identical to the real ones until you look in the interior and I’ve seen other ones that aren’t good

I’m going to really try to go to the Auburn cord and Duesenberg shindig in Auburn Indiana in August.
Great video once again. I'll have to say the Auburn and the Packard.
Sweet choices =)
Those fenders on the auburn are were it’s at what an awesome car
Such a gorgeous “cad’s car,” as Leno puts it! 😛
I hope you do both of those Duesenbergs on either side soon! Especially the SJ with the rare eight port exhaust pipes to the Auburn’s left.
Haha love Leno =)
I did not do a Duesenberg while I was there. I wanted to grow the base a little bit before I start it after some of the really heavy hitters not to say that this isn’t a heavy hitter because it definitely is. I’m hoping to go to the Auburn Cord and Dusenberg museum this year. I would really love to cover one there…
Just to be clear, I’m not the type of person that goes after the TH-cam algorithm I go after what my base likes and it seems like my base likes the weird and obscure cars that never get covered so I’ve just been kind of putting it off. I absolutely love Duesenberg, but that is the pinnacle that is the zenith of what the greatest company that ever came out of America was it never got any better than that, some could argue and say White a really really superior brand which they were as well as crane simplex, but those companies came before Duesenberg… simplex was gone when Duesenberg became the absolute legend it was
Delahaye I could look at 😱
Packard Speedster I could enjoy every sunshinny day 😊
Last time I was at Auburn Restorations they were plenty of parts and producing body parts 🤔..
Johnny Cash built his car one piece at a time 😂..
Happy Motoring ✌️🤠
Oh wow! I didn’t know Johnny Cash had one and he built it one piece at a time. That’s a crazy story. Great choices that delahaye is something
I really want to feature one. I’m not entirely sure when I’ll get to it foreign cars don’t do well on this channel for some reason I wanna do that for me lol.
One piece at a time is a line from a popular Johnny Cash song. And it was a Cadillac.
Hahaha nice I clearly don’t know all Johnny cash’s songs
Man! U have a voice! The fire down below ... good god I want a music vid now.
Haha I don’t have the best voice in the world is something I struggle with
I usually skip to the car. Watched the whole episode this time. You do a great job!
Thank you they are all mostly like this, this one went a little deeper history, specs, design, pros and cons, would you rather =) glad you dig this one
You, young blood, are a character! Great episodes
Thank you happy you dig this channel
Very, very, very cool car Auburn - Cord
Yeah it was… it was also a tall car
I really want to build a speedster of my very own one day, not with the fenders open wheel
Talbot all day everyday….. but would be ecstatic to have any of the choices…. All are beautiful and special.
Awesome choices, there was almost a couple other options in there as well like a delage Bugatti, but those cars are a fortune not to say that Talbots are cheap
I recall a dealership that sold Auburn replicas in the early 1980s. My cars of choice would be the 1933 Pierce Arrow Silver Arrow and the Cord 812.
Just like the Shelby Cove Brothers, all kinds of companies that make replicas of this car, some look identical to the actual car until you get to the interior and underneath the hood and others don’t look as good to put it nicely
Broken arrow Oklahoma is doing the Auburn too.
Sweet choices
I’m right there with you I love the arrow coupe.
I’m not saying today’s cars are bad they’re just appliances.
Thank you so much for sharing those memories
Your story brings to mind something that happened in my life time there is a show in Pittsburgh called the vintage Grand Prix it was a epic show and used to be on a donation basis... and spectators were free they used to have food donated from shop and save and was a donation, that was 10 years ago
Now it's turned into a giant money grab it's $60 at least to show a car as long as you don't have a exotic car ( I have a friend who has a Citroen and it cost him $200 just because he has French car)
I know they give the money to charity but if your just starting out and you just built the car and want to show it, I personally don't think it should cost money.. idk so many egos just to put their name on it giving a million dollars to an organization... I'm with you and it's going to kill the hobby
Plus they let dealers promote which I don't have a problem with but there is very few vintage cars the only thing vintage about it is in name alone.. needless to say I don't go to it anymore... not impressed
Thank you great choices
There’s a lot of museums that I need to hit. I really want to go…
My choice is divided between the Auburn Speedster, the Cord and the Pierce Arrow Silver Arrow, all beautiful, stylish cars💎
Excellent video, what a beautiful car! ❤❤
Happy you dig this episode I’m really happy with this on I’m working on my voice delivery a little bit more
All the A-C-D cars of the thirties were the most beautiful cars of the classic period , if not all time.
Awesome choices
Awesome insight and information as well
I had no problem with your pronunciation of Auburn, but I'm also from the 'Burgh. My thing is Packard, although this video about Auburn was excellent! You did a great job! Hint: There used to be a Packard dealership/factory(?) on Baum Blvd. Look it up.(not sure what it is now)
I personally love packards would love to have one one day I'll share it with everyone =)
What is your favorite Packard
I'll take the Auburn every single time.
Awesome =)
I say awe burn. They're all nice cars. I guess the Auburn Speedster and the Cord 812
Sweet choices
I’ve gotten corrected in the past for how I say it, but I tried saying it the other way I can’t say it like that even in the blooper I wasn’t saying it how you’re supposed to say it I guess
@@What.its.like. I'll never be able to afford those automobiles. I think that most of your viewers would say the same. I really do appreciate (along with Ed's Auto Reviews) your in-depth analysis. I know that Jay's Fan Club would agree with me! Have a good Sunday.
I love Ed’s reviews, truth be told after watching ed, rare classic cars, Doug demuro jay leno they all inspired me to do this… cars from 20s-60s don’t get the coverage they deserve
@@What.its.like. Leno has a fantastic collection of cars, but he still is a down-to-earth guy. I like RCC, too. I have never seen Doug. I'll check him out.
"Hey, do you think you can do a car with this old junk we've got laying around?"
"I don't know, I guess so. What kind of budget do I have to work with?"
"Here's my lunch money, I'm not really hungry today."
And from this conversation comes one of the most beautiful and desirable cars ever made 😎 OK, it probably didn't quite go like that but you'd have expected more of a cobbled-together frankenstein than this gorgeous car which shows not one hint of it's austere background, truly a real-life rags to riches thing.
#2 the Cord is iconic but once again there is nothing which can match the Auburn SC 851, a gourmet meal assembled from leftovers 😁
Unsubbed and resubbed but still not getting notifications here or for several other channels I follow.
I don’t remember exactly what the statistic was of the amount of content being added every single minute but it’s astounding…
I love your take on this car. Frankly
Great choices =)
Nice!!!!!
One of each please!!
Sweet =)
EL cord went on thank you so much for sharing that information and insight
I need to go to the ACD i’m really hoping to go there this year for the Auburn cord and Duesenberg shindig.. that building/showroom looks absolutely stunning. That’s the way a dealership should be in my opinion chandeliers pillars just pure atmosphere..
Great choices
Did you ever notice the Bugatti type 57 and the Talbot-lago as well as Delahaye all made the same body shape car with different front ends
The flying lady reminds me of an episode of Wiley Coyote, where he buys a set of flying wings, with leather cap and goggles.from Acme.
Could you imagine driving this car what it would be like it would be like you’re an instant celebrity
For the 500th episode when a feature of the truck and do it proper I’m also going to tie in another kind of episode.
@@What.its.like. Yes please.
The last time I drove my truck people were actually taking their phones out filming me. It was weird that doesn’t happen all the time.
I’ll go with the big Red!
Hi, I figured in order to this car could reach the speed of 100mph the driver must combine the shifts between the transmission and the rear end.
Yeah I’m pretty sure you would’ve had to but if you start off in high gear, I don’t know if that’s what the 0 to 60 accounted for..
Saturday in the Park .... Chicago

Doug will give it a score based on new cars which I don’t think is right…
Maybe one day we could get into driving more cars but I worked at Classic Car dealership one summer and I found out that you could have two cars that are identical and every single way, but they won’t drive the same because everything wears out differently .. so my experience might be different than your experience.
Oh, I meant to add, you're head and shoulders above Doug D in my book. Quit watching him years ago. I don't understand his popularity at all!
I really want to collaborate with other youtube channels I’ve reached out to Paul shin, rare classic cars, shooting cars a few others, Paul is the only one that ever got back and pretty much said no in the nicest way possible.. idk I willing to work with anyone just wish it was the same across the board…
Modern cars should be getting 40 mpg with direct fuel injection and computer control but they don’t.
This is not just a SEXY car; it is a SEX CAR!
Totally agree this car is absolutely stunning to think they built it on a shoestring budget
No, no, not vacuum operated wipers. They become slower, the faster you drive, which is exactly the opposite of what you want.
