I stopped throwing the A rig, I fish Wilson and Pickwick here in Alabama. Everybody and their brother has one tied on. The fish here have seen so many of them your lucky to get a bite. Your right about down sizing, the few people I know that catch bass on them are throwing the small rigs with 3 inch or smaller swimbaits and putting small curly tail grubs on them will sometimes out perform swimbaits. Thanks again for the great content Randy!
Havent thrown these yet...since i use to fish tournaments where they were not allowed,.. Now that i retired and i am fun fishing.....i have seen OTT DEFOE use it.....and i watched this to learn and get tips... THANKS RANDY...another great VIDEO...
Good explanation. I get keeping the line unobtrusive, but surely the A-rig demonstrates that the difference between braid/fluorocarbon/mono is minimal to moot, visually, on a lot of presentations. I fish a leader like most, so I don't have to respool for different conditions,(I only have one baitcaster!)but I don't sweat the visual so much! With the fragility and cost of fluorocarbon, doesn't it make sense for the average angler to use copolymer or mono? Thanks!
Going to have to start adding some links to your gear of choice! Enjoyed the video. My home lake is Guntersville and I just started fishing these rigs. Going to have to upsize a bit it looks like. Been throwing a Yum Finesse rig mainly. Broke it off while casting it with 12lb flouro. Going to have to upsize the line also. Best lessons in life are bought they say 😁
I'm going to finally break out the A-rig this Saturday. I've been studying it for 3 years and finally decided to take the plunge. Water will be about 50 degrees and no pressure on the river this time of the year. Randy, have you tried an A-rig with a couple small colorado blades instead of all willow leaf blades (just to add a little more thump in stained water)?
Hey Randy, I've only caught a few bass on this set up. My best strike was on the edge of a dock fishing out from the cove on the very first dock. May the bass was just roaming, but I did see some shad swimming about.
Randy the vids are awesome importance on fish in the boat is knowledge and you bring it well. Feller has to have 4 trays and a cpl hundo just to be equipped for any condition it seems. I'd prefer the k.i.s.s. approach... keep up your quality vids thanks so much
Use to fish a winter circuit several years back at a power plant lake. If the A rig wasn’t part of your arsenal more times than not you’d get you butt kicked! Before I knew it I found myself getting too reliant on it. Find the bait and lob the damn “Christmas tree” around all day with success! It got to the point that I started to get embarrassed throwing the damn the thing! Many anglers in my realm started calling it the idiot rig! Like you said, it’s not a catch all, but if you’re in the right situation it’s gonna land you a big bag!
Love these types of videos! Very informative! Can you do one on pros/cons for different hook types for soft plastic? I haven’t had a chance to try them all to determine which is best...EWG vs round bend vs straight shank.
I was fishing with a guy and we we're both throwing the jr flash mob but because he had a different style head I never caught anything that day even though we we're throwing the identical keitech
Do you change out the clips or any of the hardware or do you run with stock Hardware I'm hearing it's better to change out to the hyper wire because it is stronger do you agree with that or not
down here these Coosa spots are eating them 5 inchers baby. im like this other guy tho. here in alabama everybody and their momma throws an a rig. I like jerkbaits myself around main lake points. going to experiment with bladed baits this winter.
www.tacklewarehouse.com/G_Funk_Baits_Desert_2_Hook_Rig_Bladed/descpage-GFDB.html not the MBass one, the desert rig. two longer arms cause AZ only allows 2 hooks. they make a non bladed one as well. all the GFunk A-rigs are money
Crushing it everyday! Thanks:-) any word on that Megabass promo code yet? Would you consider coming to Ray Roberts or is that too far? Are ALL SNAPS (like the ones that come on storm swim baits) not to be trusted in your opinion? Thanks Randy
Thx Matt...The heavier gauge ones are probably OK but they create a negative visual. Most of my instructional trips are around here in Central and southwest Missouri
www.tacklewarehouse.com/G_Funk_Baits_Desert_2_Hook_Rig_Bladed/descpage-GFDB.html this is that desert rig (only two long arms cuz AZ only allows 2 hooks) but GFunk makes a bunch of options, bladed and non-bladed
SUBSCRIBE! It’s free knowledge from a 30+ year pro!! Great video Randy. I just purchased some A-Rigs so this info is just what I needed. Oh, those sure looked like “SNAPS” on those A-Rigs you held up. Are they the exception to your not using snaps? Looking fwd to Thursday’s seminar! See you then. 😀👍🏼
Randy, I hear a lot about guys putting some with heavier weights on bottom to prevent spinning. Also I seem to have my baits get messed up hooking one another in the cast. Any advice?
I like the idea of weightless with exception for the front weight. They get heavy when you add all the other weights to the baits. I will try this out and see for myself. That will be the only way to really know.
Do you really think the line matters with all that wire ? I don’t fish it much, like not in last 2years but I still 2 brand new ones in the package in my rod locker.
Anytime they're focused on schooling bait fish, the A-rig is magic. Until it isn't! "Match the hatch" Biggest mistake using the "A" rig is not matching the hatch with your plastics.
I just watched 3 video's from TacticalBassin throwing an A-rig and Tim and Matt don't seem to have any problem at all catching fish on an A-rig using 65# braid and they are fishing Clear Lake, so I was wondering if anyone has actually done an experiment of using braid vs fluoro to see if it really makes a difference or are people just keeping the myth going about braid spooking fish and fluorocarbon does not. I have heard numerous times watching these video's....they can see the braid so i don't use it.....right and they can't see those 5 wires..LOL What a joke.
IMO, Promoting the A rig is a bad idea. It is responsible for the downfall in the big bass population in all of our fisheries. It should be banned by state wildlife management nationwide. It is an umbrella rig designed for salt water mega-schools of fish. Not the precious resource of fresh water fisheries. I've removed them all from my boats. They don't work most of the time anyway.

I've never fished an Alabama rig but always been curious. You've helped me decide to do it. Thanks for sharing all your experience with the public. 😊
I have fished the Alabama rig in New Jersey cold water 38-40 deg.f with minimal success.Hopefully this video will help me become more successful!
Havent thrown these yet...since i use to fish tournaments where they were not allowed,.. Now that i retired and i am fun fishing.....i have seen OTT DEFOE use it.....and i watched this to learn and get tips... THANKS RANDY...another great VIDEO...
Very helpful, have a finesse type version with 3 hooks and 2 weights for slow, bottom fishing.
Thank you very much for your videos as well as johnny.. they have helped me a ton. Best of luck with online seminars. And all you do.
Semper Fi
Thx Dave!

Randy, add some descriptions of what you are using.

New to the “A” rig and have a couple being shipped to me. Thanks for the insight. Anxious to get them rigged and out on the lake.

Subscribed , love Randy’s videos .
I started throwing those this last fall and did really good when nothing else was working...
Great video.
Good stuff Randy thanks....
i like the alabama rig i have a few those a fun to throw but heavy
Just found your channel, great, great content! Subscribed and going to look at Alabama rigs-never fished them before but will this spring.
Thanks, if you can share more spotted bass techniques specific in the future would be great! Thanks
I'm interested in the Desert rig. Never fished the Alabama rig since AZ only allows 2 hooks and they have so many different types of A rigs.
We had the same ice problem here in Kansas City haha. It was loud and pelted you if you went outside.😂😂 You won a sub, too!

You must’ve read my mind Nolan! I was just thinking about doing that. Will do!
Enjoy your videos, lots of good info. Where can you purchase mega bass umbrella rigs?
I was fishing with a guy and we we're both throwing the jr flash mob but because he had a different style head I never caught anything that day even though we we're throwing the identical keitech
What is the advantage of using fluorocarbon line instead of mono or a co-polymer line?
Actually saw fish swimming away from my A rig today. I think I need to downsize and lose the blades.
Where are you throwing these at in particular? Riprap? Over brushpiles?
So use a non bladed A-rig and jerkbait under the same conditions?
Do you change out the clips or any of the hardware or do you run with stock Hardware I'm hearing it's better to change out to the hyper wire because it is stronger do you agree with that or not
Tournaments ban the Alabama rig, but allow live scope and underwater cameras?
Do you ever troll the Alabama rig behind the boat and how does that method produce?
Are you fishing the open when you come to lake mead?
What is the weight of jig head do u use ?
down here these Coosa spots are eating them 5 inchers baby. im like this other guy tho. here in alabama everybody and their momma throws an a rig. I like jerkbaits myself around main lake points. going to experiment with bladed baits this winter.
Randy,
I can’t find that megabass spark rig anywhere. Have a link?
I don’t believe they offer it anymore but I’ll check to make sure

not the MBass one, the desert rig. two longer arms cause AZ only allows 2 hooks. they make a non bladed one as well. all the GFunk A-rigs are money
Would you still fish 6 - 8 lb Flouro on your jerkbaits if you were on a lake that’s has lots of 8 - 10 lb bass, and has a little more stain to it?
It depends how deep I want the bait to go. That all use 8 pound test around big fish all the time
@@randyblaukatintuitive Thanks for the reply Randy! I love your content.
Thanks

Great video. Your simple delivery is unique and I think your secret weapon to getting to 10K subs so fast 👍
Nice
I had luck with those small LiveTarget rigs
Any thoughts where to throw it and retrieve speed? Also any thoughts on rigging them weightless on ewg weedless?
I like the idea of weightless with exception for the front weight. They get heavy when you add all the other weights to the baits. I will try this out and see for myself. That will be the only way to really know.
I had an Alabama rig that I found in the river for 2 cast. My bait caster turned into a bird nest and the rig kept right on flying. No more A-rig....
sometimes you'll catch a alabma rig with a alabama rig LOL
Well Randy tell us where and when to throw them.
How do u fish it? Let it hit bottom and then start retrive or what?
I throw it out there and begin slow reeling. When I get it to the deepest point I’ll pop it three or four times in a row and then reel again
Great videos .. did you have a leaky roof, your fireplace has calcium on the ceiling.
Yep!
Are you still going to fish bass opens. Or Toyota what are you planning
Do you really think the line matters with all that wire ? I don’t fish it much, like not in last 2years but I still 2 brand new ones in the package in my rod locker.
How many hooks are you allowed to use on them in Missouri
3 hooks sir.
Thank you
@@arthurogle9596 yes sir.
For some reason I get the feeling your sponsored by megabass

Never had much luck other than a sore wrist from chunking them heavy dudes and a lighter wallet from staying hung up all day.
I really dislike using the a rig although I use it because it works
Another A Rig Gone.
Not a cheap set up.
I felt like a pro wrestler shaking the top rope trying to get it out.
I could see it made it worse.

Dont be censored, move to Bit chute
A-rigs are essentially spinner baits on steroids. fished more like spinner baits than crank baits

Not your fault but man, how many Georgia political ads can they cram onto one video>/ BRUTAL!!
Yep We have no control of that unfortunately
