    I can attest to Volvo's level of safety.I was coming home one late night when I was struck by a 17 year old kid in a stolen 1977 Grand Prix driving without headlights in at 70 mph in a suburban neighborhood. He t-boned me, sent me up on two wheels into my own tree outside of my property which was about 2 and a half feet wide. I hit the tree head on and the Volvo did things to protect me that aren't even advertised like the bottom of the dashboard coming down gently to protect my knees and the center console gently folding down when I came down sideways in my seatbelt when the passenger side of the car landed. MY VOLVO SAVED MY LIFE!

      I don't understand how you can be t-boned, which means struck in the side, at 70mph and thrown into a tree head on, which means in the front.

      I agree that's how my love for Volvos started. I had a 1986 240 GL and I was t-boned too and the Police said that if I wasn't for the Volvo I wouldn't be hear, so I had to get another one.

      I was traveling forward. I was struck on the side and still traveled forward enough to hit my tree. In truth I was send diagonally into my tree and since I was on the road first and my tree was on the edge of my property I hit it head on. I also bought another one.

    I actually like dedicated buttons on a dash, as long as they're well organized. Once you learn where they are, you can find them at the quickest glance. Run everything off one screen and you are in the world of menus, even in the best design. - and that screen is the stop-or-go of your car.

    The station wagons of my youth were notoriously large, underpowered, under-braked and had the ride and handling characteristics of an aircraft carrier. The Volvo wagons were certainly better but power was still not on offer. This looks nice for a small family (height as well as number of people) but would probably sell better as a cross over since the station wagon stigma is still alive and well.

      Clearly you have never driven a 90's HPT Volvo wagon

      Sam Freeman
      By the 1990s my youth was well past. In the 50s,60s,70s and 80s station wagons were built on the same platforms as sedans and convertibles. Given their additional weight and higher center of gravity the only performance enhancement was a bigger engine which overtaxed the already marginal capacity of the suspension, brakes and tires. The Volvos of the period had somewhat better handling and braking, largely because they were small but their engines were still better known for longevity than power output.

    How about the Hyundai Sonata wagon they sell over seas. That is one sweet looking wagon. Of course today a lot of style is in wagons. I miss our '68 Ford Country Sedan 8 passenger. Dad used that for 6 years. From "72-'78 and only 1 water pump replaced. Dad did wall papering on the side and was our handy man. that wagon was put through it's paces with a family of 7.

    I'm glad a V60 is coming to the U.S., but want to see the V40. I may hold off on purchasing a 2014 Mazda 3 S GT if a V40 comes out this year.

    Good video Roman! I've been patiently waiting for an announcement saying that the AWD version of this car with the Drive E engine will be available soon. Did you hear anything from Volvo? Are we going to have to wait until the new generation arrives? I read that the new engine + AWD will not fit in the current chassis.

  • @Howard1939

    What makes a wagon, is enough clearnce in back, with 2nd. row seats follded down to accommodate a few sheets of 4 x 8 ft. plywood from the home improvement store... That was used as criteria for a station wagon by FORD in the mid to late 1950's.. This Volvo looks more like the P-1600 (or was it P-1800 ?) Estate wagon, which was on the short side in the tail end too..!

    • @georgeetoile6686
      @georgeetoile6686 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Howard1939 who the hell would want to haul 4x8 sheets of plywood in a car like this? It was designed for people, not hauling freight.

    Their entertainment, display system really isn't difficult. I know the numeric keypad throws everyone off but in essence it's just the top four buttons: radio, media, phone, nav. The numbers are used for fast number entry, memory presets, or if you want to T9 your address for Nav. The V60 is for convenience, not utility. Volvo makes the XC70, XC60 and XC90 for utility. Reliability has been very good with my S60 and it needs to be in Alaska.

    • @georgeetoile6686
      @georgeetoile6686 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cynder Gray Don't park it outside for the winter in Alaska. It needs to be driven. Otherwise you might have electrical problems as I did with my S60.

    Wagons are so much cooler and practical then crossovers. I hope this is a trend. Crossovers are bloated fat looking messes IMO. Sadly the jetta sport wagon which is a very nice car is being phased out. I'd still have that or this over any crossover.

    • @ericpowell7887
      @ericpowell7887 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a 2006 Toyota Rav4 which is technically a CrossOver but it feels much more like a Wagon. Also a Crossover is better than a wagon because here in Canada we need something with AWD standard and decent ground clearance for snow. Also I can fit two mountain bikes in my car and carry 3 people while towing a trailer. Most wagons aren't equipped that well.

      Wagons like the Audi allroad and Volvo XC70 have the same ground clearance as your RAV4, but better AWD.
      I don't like bashing the RAV4, it's a great crossover, but I had to.

    • @ericpowell7887
      @ericpowell7887 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** The Volvo XC 70 for sure has similar ground clearance but interior wise does not have the height to hold a mountain bike my ex had one. For an Audi they are a German car they are low to the ground heavy small and unreliable I can't say it's in the same ability range as a crossover.

    I don't understand why everyone is building cars these days with no headroom. Swedish people are tall and this car doesn't fit anyone 6'2 and over. Otherwise it's a beautiful wagon.

  • @leeweston45
    @leeweston45 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your getting better !! You start off comparing it fairly to BMW ,AUDI.. The Senus Screen is 7" not 4 . 7" not 4" your off by 40% . The back seat in the Audi ? BMW ? COMPARE ??? WTF !! would you recommend a lease on a Niche Car ?(ALT.Finance ) If you want to know about a car talk to someone who is in the car business . It's been in Europe since 2010 and Volvo brought a couple of thousand over for a few premium sportwagon buyers. Just Saying !!

      Volvo has a lot of cars in their range, some bigger, but most are quite small. As the European market looks very different than the American. Volvo is a small company compared to Audi, BMW and Mercedes, and must therefore be a niche in order to get customers. They can not compete outright with perfection.
      The choice is simple, you might want a car that looks great and have a perfect fit interior with great materials and has more engines to choose from. Then buy a one of the Germans. If you want the family to survive a collision, then buy a Volvo.
      In Europe more then half of the cars being sold are diesels, so there are a lot engine choices to pick from. D2, D3, D4, D5, D6 and T3, T4, T5, T6 and T6 Polestar edition. But america will probobly only get a couple of the petrols.

      And Volvo is of course coming along with new introductions one after the other. Home that a new v70 (or, if must be, xc70) will show the new styling in a bigger vehicle.

    Almost every car is "safe" nowadays so volvo can't hold on to that tag anymore really. It's to expensive for what you get even though it's way cheaper then the audi Mercedes bmw prices but you pay for simply the name

      anticipated bad reliability - Volvo is one of the most reliable European makes sold especially if you look at long term data and plan on keeping a car past the initial warranty period.

    • @frankfencepost7255
      @frankfencepost7255 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      David Cuccia XC90? Theres the problem! Its always been the least reliable model. Not unreliable, but not as reliable as the rest. I've never had a problem with any of my 3 previous XC90's, but I've heard of some people having issues. But you have to remember the XC90 was designed in 1998, and hasn't been updated until this year (released in august). But the S60, V60 and XC60 are pretty bombproof.
