    Hi Alex, You were right! After waiting two months for my V60CC, I was disappointed in the ride quality being too firm for my taste. I think I was expecting it to ride more like the XC70 and it does not, so I had to pass. It is a beautiful little wagon with nice power, but just a little too firm. Maybe I'll go test an allroad and see if that rides a little more compliant. Keep up the good accurate reviews.

      Michael Torres you must be American ;) in Europe, this Volvo is only at the center of the firm-comfortable scale. We like our cars a little bit sportier, and the XC70 is regared as a 'floating' car here, which makes you nousious :P

    • @brucec43
      @brucec43 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm American and I even find the R design suspension on the V60/S60 to be ok. The regular suspension on the V60/S60 is downright soft and the CC may be ride better, some reports have said so. What's the point of paying $$$$ for a European luxury car if it handles like a Toyota? Might as well buy the reliable soft sloppy handler.

    Aw, after watching this I realized why you referenced the xc70 so often in the audi allroad review! Theyre very similar vehicles.

  • @brucec43
    @brucec43 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I have watched at least three reviews touting the "smooth ride" of this vehicle. I have an S60 R design so I know it's a couple levels better than that, which I find acceptable on most roads, and never harsh. Sound is more a factor, and that is tires and soundproofing.
    Always check that tire pressure when testing. I bought a CPO BMW with tires that were 10psi over the recommended pressure. And all it takes is one journalist playing around to screw up the ride.

    Since this video was published, VW has released the Golf Alltrack which [kinda] competes in this segment. Not quite so nice, but it is a little less expensive and offers that sporty DSG dual-clutch transmission.

    An update on the Volvo Ford-made T6 engine. I was just on the Volvo N American website, and the T6 is no longer available on the XC70 in MY 2016. Volvo now only offers the XC70 with the T5 Drive E engine, and the legacy T5 5-cyl. IMO, the T5 is better than the T6 anyway. Better reliability and durability in the Volvo-made 5 cyl, and with a temporary 10 sec boost to 295 lbs ft of torque, it matches the torque of the T6. And Volvo also has finally gotten rid of the tepid Ford-made 3.2 engine. It seems Volvo is finishing it's relationship with Ford engines sooner than expected. But you can still get the T6 on the R models of the XC60 and the S60.

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +777Outrigger Remember that although the 3.0 and 3.2 engines are made in a Ford plant, it is actually a Volvo engine design and honestly a very good one at that. The reason that the I6 was made in teh ford plant is that it was initially supposed to be used in a crop of new 6-cylinder Jaguars to compete with BMW's inline 6. The 3.0L six is very very smooth and has excellent power characteristics. The downside is that it is very long and it causes compromises when used in a transverse engine design. Volvo is no stranger to inline sixes in this manner however they have had others in the past. Personally I'm a little sad the 5-cylinder and 6-cylinder engines aren't long for this world.

    • @777Outrigger
      @777Outrigger 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Alex on Autos I think the Volvo-designed Ford-made T6 is a great engine, but to me it represents Ford robing Volvo of engine making expertise. Besides safety, Volvo has a great engine making tradition, and Ford should have let Volvo make their own engines. The 3.2 doesn't have the lo-rpm hi-torque that European engines usually have, which is why I call it tepid. It's hard to believe Volvo designed it.
      And I know car reviewers want to review the high HP engine option, but I wish someone would review the 5 cyl T5 on the XC60. I think they would find it compares very well to the T6 6-cyl XC60. (I've owned a T5 AWD 2015.5 Platinum XC60 for a year now--what a great car!)

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +777Outrigger The rumor mill says that the 3.2L engine was initially made to combat BMW's old 3.0l naturally aspirated engine and in that respect it was fine. I think the bigger issue was the 6-speed aisin transmission.

    Hi Alex, I was surprised to here your review on the ride quality of the V60 XC, was the ride really that firm? I have been reading reviews on this car, because it really interests me and 99% of them said the ride was "fantastic" and rode very different then the V60 because of it's suspension travel. If possible, can you define the ride a little bit more? Thanks! Keep up the good reviews

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Torres It's perfect on pavement, but off pavement is it quite firm. Off pavement it reminded me a great deal of the 2015 X4 M-Line 28i that I have this week. The XC70 is much more compliant. It really depends on what you're after.

    At 7.9" this has more ground clearance than many "real crossovers", and within about 1" of some "off roaders'. The long nose would be the off-road hangup, and nobody's rock crawling these things.

    I have to decide between V60 Cross Country or A4 Allroad booth Automatic 190 CV.
    In Spain are similar price, but V60 Cross Country is “new model” and A4 Allroad it will be change in one year. What do you think?

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Josep López I would say if you're looking for the sportier one, that would be the Volvo, the softer ride would be in the Audi.

    • @mpc007
      @mpc007 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Josep López It would pick the V60. If you plan on selling it in a few years, the Volvo will most likely get you more money back, because it is still a recent model. The Audi is really running on its last legs.

  • @CrooklynPilot
    @CrooklynPilot 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you think the BMW X1 powertrain and features have better or equivalent to the V60 Cross Country, except for pricing

    • @mpc007
      @mpc007 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anderson Huggins The BMW X1 is more comparable to the XC60, since it has more ground clearance and is less a stationwagon as type. But when you're asking powertrains, the BMW is most likely better, since it has RWD and more engine choices. The automatic gearbox of the Volvo is also behind the ones on the BMW

  • @paulpaplinski7443
    @paulpaplinski7443 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Alex... No review of the rear cargo? That's the only reason I would buy this V70 over the S60 or any other sedan.
    Also no comments on the quality of the interior materials.
    Feels like it was avoided to not make the Volvo as attractive buy.

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paul Paplinski Oh dear, somehow I didn't film the cargo section! Yikes! Well, as I implied in the side profile, room is much more limited than the XC70 and it is also less than the Audi allroad. Interior parts quality is on par with the other entries in this segment. Nothing stands out in either direction.

    • @paulpaplinski7443

      23chicco That depends if you picked the glass sunroof ;) It really takes at least 5cm head space away. We have a V60 without the roof, and my 1.92m are no problem what so ever, neither in the front seats or on second row.
