Man, when I saw him at the beggining in the process of painting I was like ´´Wow... how many years of experience this level of art may take?´´ then he pulls that chicken and I was like ´´What is that roasted chicken? maybe is an image he pulled in error´´ then on the contrary of my expectations, he did an overlay layer and I was like ´´what?´´ and to make it worse, it looked better after he put that chicken overlay and was like ´´WHAT THE ACTUAL F***?!?´´
Overlaying the chicken photos onto the painting is hilarious but also genius Just now I realize what good color palette roasted chicken has, very reddish and earthy with nice dark colors... The whole painting is gorgeous all around
The chicken trick seems to be a big hit! 😄 Yeah, the colors in the photos added a really nice effect and also gave another "level" to the warm mood I wanted (+ the blue of the fire for the second one adds a nice effect that contrasts with the overall warm mood). Thank you! 🙏

And then I discovered that a lot of them just used...a second screen 🥲 But then I discovered Ahmed Aldoori's channel and for the first time a great artist putting his refs on the same screen, it was a revelation 🤯

I like to use images to add interesting colors and color variations, create happy accidents, as well as textures and maybe shapes. I don't usually care too much about the subject of the photo (as long as it has interesting values, colors and textures), but here I wanted something warm and "related" to the design of the character ("chimera" Falin) which reminded me of chicken ^^' (even if it's actually a dragon body)

Really appreciate you posting your process. I feel very lost sometimes on how to approach a painting or new art piece, videos like these give me a good picture on how other artists handle this. Very helpful to learn from and to get some ideas.
Hilarious use of chicken aside, I think including PureRef in the screen recording and showing how you actually used it was a really healthy representation of reference usage in art. Most timelapses don't show this and can give beginners the impression that the artist just pulled all that out of nowhere (not their fault because not everyone wants to include their reference board in the recording, but just nice to see it here)

I use this technic to creates "happy accident" by adding interesting color variations, tints, texture, shapes, etc. You take an image that you find interesting, copy/paste it in your canvas, smudge if you feel the need, change the layer mode to lighten or overlay (or else, make some tests), create an opacity mask and hide/reveal as you feel :) Thank you! :D

I use this technic to creates "happy accident" by adding interesting color variations, tints, texture, shapes, etc.
You take an image that you find interesting, copy/paste it in your canvas, smudge if you feel the need, change the layer mode to lighten or overlay (or else, make some tests), create an opacity mask and hide/reveal as you feel :)
