Hunters: "These wolves are destroying the ecosystem" Also hunters: *try and destroy the ecosystem by killing off the wolves* Some hypocrisy there, don't you agree?
Thank you for this beautiful docu. I have loved and read about wolves for over 30 years now and I never tire learning what they teach me. Humans are limited species, wolves are not. They are intelligent and interesting animals we can learn from.
The wolves in Yellowstone, originally came from Canada, Alghonquin Park actually, because Yellowstone had eradicated their wolves, then realised it was extremely damaging, nor having predators, to keep a balance! Too many bison, elk moose and other tree eaters, erosion damaged the banks of rivers and streams! Alghonquin Park bred the wolves that now live in Yellowstone and they have thinned out the herds that have damaged Yellowstone!🧐🤓
The first 9 wolves came from Jasper National Park. The rest came from other Alberta park areas, and from northern Montana. None came from Ontario, or more specifically, algonquin park.
Footnote: Mister Douglas Smith, thank you for your contribution. You really understand what this is all about. - informed, dedicated to the task at hand and articulate. Your contribution is greatly appreciated. Signed: A Boomer just like you...albeit Black as the night in Yellowstone National Park. Thought I should end on a positive note.
Very interesting, just watched a European docu about the wolves there, and there are no hierarchy struggles there. The make up of the packs is also different: a pair with a litter from this year and the previous. How come this is different?
Maybe because wolves have different prey size, here in western Europe it is a lot of roe deer which can be taken by one or two wolves. For elk I think you need more wolves to successfully hunt, but one elk allso feeds more wolves. There are allso no bears over here, so different prey and competition might affect their survival strategy.
@@Burritosaurus that is exactly what the European documentary was saying as well. So that means that this info is incorrect in this documentary and the scientist need to rethink and understand more. If that is the case, because I am only an enthusiastic amateur, not a scientist (in this field of science)
@@casadelosotte Yes, it was a misconception about the terms of alpha and beta, because the study was performed on captive wolves who are not a family. There is no hierarchy in a wolf pack, everyone is treated as equals and the more dependent members are always given food first like pups and elder wolves.
Wolves have incredible intelligence and complex social skills, causing they to be king of the wildness. Most articles said that they are cunning and cruel. Ironic thinking that how human have survived in the wild, surpassed the wolves in many miles.
Why did the park rangers not treat him at for the distemper? This is very disturbing that visitors on the road and rangers just let him suffer for 9 days . Very callous
My favorite parts of this and many other nature documentaries is any part without the lousy background music. Why do they all feel it so necessary to blare the orchestra when the sound of silence is so much better
Life and death is natural. Always has been and always will be. It's part of everyday life no matter what anyone think or feel about it. This is why I feel so sad everytime some overly fragile people think onesided and think that anything that will eat meat is bad. If they truly cared about nature, they would think about actual balance in which all parts of biology in nature is equally important. Wolves deserve to be there as any other animal, so more people simply need to look further than the tip of their nose. Everything has consequences, so long term solutions is the only way to do things. Perspective is key.
Mr Smith must also remember that bears, although an apex predator, are also omnivores, i.e. they eat vegetation although they are principally meat eaters.
It sounds like u guys are cruel to wolves😢😢. U guys obliterated those wolves just to get visitors and other people to come to your yellowstone national park

Rosco, it’s surprising how some people think it’s perfectly acceptable that other people suffer huge financial losses by large predators. However, I’m pretty certain that if a wolf came into your garden and killed your dogs and cats, you would think differently!

This documentary shows how important it is that we humans have to stop interfering in nature. It only causes damage.
